@westslopemama YES! As soon as I figured out my due date I've been so excited for an adorable Halloween costume! I would love to do something nerdy because hubby and I are huge nerds...unfortunately I'm not the least bit crafty, or I would probably make her a nudibranch. How cute is this totoro outfit from Etsy, though? https://www.etsy.com/listing/173961522/crochet-newborn-tototo-hat-and-cocoon
I love all the ideas posted so far, y'all are so clever!
@themoonandme I found these two below! The Levi's have a super high band and are not too tight and nice and stretchy. The overalls are also super comfy, though the hem is a little tight on the leg, but with the distressing it's super easy to loosen it up without looking weird.... also I have giant ham thighs so... shorts have been hard for me too.
DD is already talking family costumes. She’s throwing out Elsa and Anna for the baby. She also asked for Pokémon and I saw baby wearing ideas where the baby can be togepi. I’ll probably just do something I can use while baby wearing and hand out candy while DD and hubby go around the neighborhood. So yes we’re already thinking of costumes 😂
@aefsparrow I love Levi's! I'll have to try to find those. The overalls are super cute but I usually can't fit into overalls- I'm 6' tall and they're never long enough through the torso. Super bummer because I love the style!
@carrotsandpeas3 have you shared a picture of your nursery anywhere? I'd love to see, I'm a total sucker for Totoro anything. Thank you @amapa20 for the link, I'm obsessed now 😍
Great costume ideas! We will probably just stay home or go to the in-laws for Halloween due to the pandemic plus DS will only be 20 months so it’s not like he’s into trick or treating. Last year, I dressed him as a gnome and we just went to my work to say hi.
I’m thinking of some type of woodland animals since the costumes could be warm and the newborn could just wear some type of onesie pajama costume with a cute animal hat or something. I really just want to dress them up so we can have a cute picture 😊
I’m so glad you girls love your pillows lol. I just opened it and I can’t wait to try it out tonight!
@westslopemama I was just thinking of that the other day, especially since we are all having October babes! I usually do a couples costume with the hubby so we will have to find something for the 3 of us this year!
@themoonandme have you tried PinkBlush? Theirs are so comfy! I’m wearing them now!
Today was supposed to be our last day of school, so our district put on a “teacher parade” where we all lined up in front of our school and waved at our students as they drove through the parking lot! It was so fun seeing our kiddos, and it was the first time most of my teacher friends have seen my official baby bump and they were all so excited for me ☺️ One friend asked if they could rub it 😂 They all have known I was pregnant since I announced it on our staff Zoom last month but they actually got to see it in person now!
I really want these shorts from Cadenshae. They are running shorts, which I’m definitely not doing right now, but they look comfortable for hiking and just hanging out. I know it’s ridiculous to spend $60 on a pair of shorts, but I might just splurge on those and a nursing sports bra since I never got one of those with DS and it was a pain to nurse when we were out hiking with a regular sports bra. They also have super cute athletic nursing tops and sweatshirts!
@westslopemama I reallllly wanted to buy those shorts but couldn’t stomach the price. I ended up buying non maternity athletic shorts off amazon that have been great
@kalesix3 I haven't yet! I designed it for DD two years ago, but she will be moving to a big girl room so we will use the same nursery again. It's mostly just grey and green, but I did make a Totoro quilt, mobile, and have some cute wall hangings. Will try to dig up some photos I took at some point!
Anyone else already starting to feel more easily short of breath? I don't remember it happening this quickly last time! I ran up some stairs at work today because I was late to a meeting and was seriously huffing and puffing. Then, DD insisted on me singing on our walk tonight and I could barely sing and walk at the same time because I couldn't catch my breath. It's going to be a long 20 more weeks at this rate!
@carrotsandpeas3 Yay for the daycare opening! That's a huge relief!
@baseballismyfavoriteseason I saw that article too and definitely raised my eyebrows at it. My snoogle pillow was my favorite pregnancy purchase and I've definitely brought it back already. ETA: #teampillow
I told my work about the baby today (I was worried about it in the weekly check in thread) and it went great. My boss was excited for me and said he definitely understands if I can't go into the office this summer. Then I told my old work where I was when I was pregnant with DS and they were super excited for me too. My boss's daughter had twin boys in March and I've been promised hand-me-downs (which is great because we gave all DS's little clothes through 6-9 to my nephew).
@aefsparrow OMG I want both of those shorts! I need to see if they have any left in my size.
As for Halloween costumes, I've been thinking about it since we first found out we're having an October baby, lol. As a pagan, this was one of my favorite things about this baby haha, and we were thisclose to naming her Salem. In fact, MH said that if I go past my due date (Oct 18th) then he'll strongly consider switching her name, or adding it as a second middle name. The first baby item I bought after we found out that I'm KU is a cute Halloween-y pajama set I found for $4 at a consignment shop, so we used it as part of our pregnancy announcement on social media:
It has little jack-o-lanterns on the feet, and says BOO! on the bum. So, she'll probably wind up wearing that since it gets pretty chilly once the sun sets on Halloween. We might top it with a cute Star Wars-themed crocheted hat from Etsy that I've had saved forever.
@mamahosch I glanced at them yesterday! I am so so picky so I'm scared to order them and hate them, but I might have to just bite the bullet and do it anyway. I'm hoping to find some with side inserts instead of a full panel but I think I need to loosen up my standards haha.
I have an insurance question for anyone more savvy than I am, I've been waiting impatiently for the billing service I signed on with to get back to me about my coverage for a new practice, and my insurance company called me and told me they heard I was pregnant and congratulations now can they get me enrolled in their prenatal program.. I'm confused, what exactly is the point of enrolling in a prenatal program with an insurance company? The nurse I spoke with said they wanted to send me some books ?? Is this normal insurance stuff? As far as I've been able to tell it's just a nurses line and free books, what exactly is the point to signing up? I've already got all my pregnancy books, and last pregnancy nobody said anything to me about a program. I'm literally so confused.
@kalesix3 My insurance does something similar, but they didn't send me any books or anything. A nurse called me every so often to check in and answer questions. I don't have any idea what the point of it was and I only participated for one of my pregnancies, but it didn't affect my insurance in any way. I've heard of some insurances sending a gift card if you complete the program or discounts on pregnancy related things. Hope that helps at least a little!
@themoonandme that's super helpful, thank you! I'm such a suspicious person, it just seemed like there was some catch to it all... I don't know why an insurance company keeps nurses employed for a call line.. when you could just call your OB office 🧐 discounts are definitely a plus though haha!
@kalesix3 I would assume it's something they do to try to make sure the patients they serve are actually receiving prenatal care. No prenatal care or poor prenatal care=higher risk and higher cost for them. Same as some insurance programs promoting benefits if you get your yearly physical or lose weight, etc.
@mckjacks are they stretchy and not too short? I got a pair of motherhood ones and I wish they were like an inch or two longer totally sad I wasjed them with trying them on
@jgrodo these are the ones that I have and I don’t find them to be too short! But if those aren’t your style, it appears they have some Bermuda side panel shorts available too!
@kalesix3 My insurance company gave me $250 when I delivered if I signed up and talked to a nurse for about 5 minutes once a month.🤷🏻♀️ It was actually pretty helpful and she had answers to issues I had getting my breast pump without having to jump through a lot of hoops.
profmcgonagall @kboydbowman I feel you on the gender disappointment and have been feeling a little shame on that, so thank for your comments. I don't think I even realized how much I wanted a girl until we found out it was a boy--this is my first. And, I am certain the the loss I had in December was a girl (even though I will never know for sure)...but, I am glad I found out the gender early on the NIPT as I feel like I needed the time to come to terms with gender.
I'm with you girls on the pillows! I had a giant pregnancy pillow from my last pregnancy that I struggled to use because it made me so hot. I just ordered the boppy wedge, and this thing is awesome. I'm so excited to use it tonight. I'm usually a stomach sleeper, so I think it will help me from shifting from side to stomach without having to literally surround myself in hot pillows.
@carrotsandpeas3 I guess I'm confused as to why it's the insurance company's business what prenatal care I'm getting, we're paying them to provide coverage for us so why wouldn't I be using it.. it just seems stupid to me.
@wineren I thought I got to call them whenever I wanted, I didn't realize the commitment on their end, I'm glad to know that!
My toddler is taking a bit longer to go to bed these days BUT we dropped pacifiers for naps and sleep completely! He was already weaned for daytime since around 18 months and now we are DONE with pacis altogether! So proud of him, he's had a paci for sleep since he was 8 weeks old 🙄
@kalesix3 any company DH or I have worked for have always had some type of health and wellness program where you can save on your deductible, earn gift cards, etc by participating. The healthier you are (this includes prenatal care) the less money they anticipate having to spend on you.
@morethanamama How did you accomplish that? Our 18m old only gets pacis for nap time and bed-time, but I’m trying to figure out the best way to cut those out too. Waiting until we’re done remodeling his room and he’s back in it instead of our room, but would love any pointers.
Well they’re making us going back to work on June 3. Not going to lie I’m excited for DD to be back in daycare but not really to go back to work.
I also have a kid that loves binkys. I’m hoping that now that she’s transitioning to the preschool class at daycare that will inspire her to ditch them at nap time. I’m also hoping her new class inspires her to be ready to potty train and be done with diapers. Everything with her has been super delayed though. Crossing my fingers for some big changes soon!
@kalesix3 what @coldbrew said. More preventative care means healthier to them, so less money out of their pocket in the long run.
@morethanamama that's awesome. There were so many times when I wish DD would take a pacifier, but she never really did. Now I'm glad since I didn't have to wean her off one, but I'm still going to try again with this next kid!
@kalesix3 I’ll also add I’m was so grateful for the nurse who reached out to me because she helped me navigate my first prenatal doctor with DD. She kind of started pointing out the red flags in my care and I was about 11 weeks when I finally jumped ship. I think if I hadn’t had someone to ask about if the things that were happening at the practice were normal I’d probably just stayed and been so unhappy.
@carrotsandpeas3@anitamargarita_82@baseballismyfavoriteseason so we initially wanted to wean in July around his 2nd birthday. I wanted a few months without the paci before baby comes. I'm sure he's going to steal his sister's paci in no time but at least I'm hoping he'll mostly forget about it by then!
Anyways, my husband decided on a whim to not offer it. My son asked about it and my husband just said you have your lovies, now say night night. That was about two weeks ago. The nanny did the same with naps. He takes a little bit longer to settle but I'm sure he will get used to it more and more. I'm shocked at how easy it was so to be honest especially if it's just night and naps I would just go cold turkey and hide them in a spot they would never see them again (ours are in the top shelf of our closet -keeping them for now then we will probably throw them away!)
@coldbrew@babycakesday thank you for that perspective as well, I probably could have used the nurses line a lot previously as the practice I'm leaving wouldn't let me call and ask any questions at all for any reason. I got angry enough that I went and found somewhere else but it's a really lonely thing to go through, I find the entire medical system so confusing and stressful to navigate honestly. I'd like to save on my deductible for sure, and the gift cards etc would also be really nice, but the nurse didn't mention anything like that, they left my case open and said they'll call me again and see if I decide to do it, so I can ask for more details. It's nice to hear other people had great experiences though and it's not some weird suspicious scam 😂 I'll keep an open mind next time they call!
@kalesix3 I’m glad you’re finding a new practice, that’s terrible. I carried our insurance for our first 2 kids and was pretty limited with who I had to see. I didn’t have a great experience but thankfully this go round DH does, so I am seeing a really great practice. I had no idea how much better it could be!
Re: May Randoms
@carrotsandpeas3 yay! So glad a spot opened up!
Thank you @amapa20 for the link, I'm obsessed now 😍
