Interviewing While Pregnant

I recently found out I am pregnant and haven't even had the pregnancy confirmed by the doctor yet (next week is the first appointment).

This morning I had a great second interview and until this point had put off thinking about what I would do/say if I received an offer.  If they should offer me the job what does everyone suggest I do? Disclose pregnancy before accepting job or wait until 2nd trimester once I have been working there?

I suppose I feel uncomfortable waiting and truly want to give the company the opportunity to tell me whether this is something that they can plan for in the position.  Obviously they would have to work aound it if this happened after I had already been working there but I would feel a little deceitful announcing my plans for maternity leave during my first month on the job.

If it were me, I would tell them after I got a written offer. Because you won't qualify for FMLA, I'd want to make sure that they could guarenteed to keep your position while you taking some time off (most likely unpaid) for maternity leave.

Good luck. There have been a lot of ladies on this board who have taken jobs while pregnant with no problems.

This.  They won't have to keep your job for you while you're on leave.

I agree with telling them when you get the offer. You of course didn't know when you applied or interviewed, but I would think from their point of view finding out a month into the job would be a little shady (for lack of a better term). You would want to make a plan for maternity leave since FMLA isn't an option. I think it shows maturity and integrity to discuss it when you get the offer. If they can't work with you, you will want to know before you take the job anyway.

Due to the risk of miscarriage or other problems, I would never tell anyone outside the family until the second trimester.  It is not their business to know and you are not obligated to tell until then.  You are not doing anything shady!

I interviewed right after I found out I was pregnant, and I did not say anything.  At this point, it is really not relevant to the hiring process (assuming the job isn't working with hazardous stuff, or something you can't do now).  Honestly, if you come out and say you are pregnant at this point, you are basically advertising that you are a liability in some ways.  If you actually want the job, wait until you have an offer to disclose, if not even later.

This was me last December.  I interviewed when I was about 6 weeks pregnant, got the job offer in writing, and then accepted and let them know I was pregnant.  I could have waited until after I started, but I wanted to let them know right away.  I even told them before telling our family, but I wanted everything out in the open.  I took two month maternity leave and am back now, and everything worked out.  Good luck!
