  • @jojo2419 wait until your 20 week anatomy scan if you don't feel confident.

@bserena We usually tell the daycare as soon as we hit 12 weeks to save a spot for our kiddos. This time around it's a little different with the pandemic, but no, not too early.

@triciad83 I sleep on my right side or my back exclusively. Even up until 40 weeks. I got so worried about it with my first pregnancy and would drive myself crazy waking up and trying to reposition. My ob basically said that I was crazy and that if it were a danger to my baby, my body would wake me up before anything bad happened. A body pillow or snoogle helped a little, but try not to stress about it.

For telling work/coworkers. I emailed my principal/assistant principal and called my closest coworker friends. The rest can wait until I post on social media. It's bizarre to think that many of them will miss the majority of this pregnancy. There's even speculation we won't be back in school in the fall....

@bserena I'd start to look at daycares and get on wait list. Depending on your area you may need to get on more than once wait list. We had a place picked out and we're on the wait list. Then 4 weeks before our oldest was to start my husband's co-worker approached him and shared their experience with the place we'd selected. We didn't feel comfortable sending our child there so had to start all over. She couldn't start till she was 9 months but fortunately from 3-9 months my mom watched her full-time.

When I was working I told my friends at work first then my boss, HR, and my team. After I told my team I told them that they it wasn't a secret and they could share with anyone at work. It spread fairly quickly within our department and was nice because I didn't have to tell everyone.

@triciad83 I bought a U-shaped pillow to help me sleep on my side. My shoulders and hips would hurt so the U-shaped pillow was great to go between my left and right sides. I'm starting to have issues sleeping on my back already. But agree with everyone else not to worry about it and your body will tell you
  • @kelk5 what U-shaped pillow did you get?  I have been meaning to ask you this lol.  I had a large pillow last time and I am kind of hoping for something smaller so it isn't like having another human in the bed haha.
  • kelk5kelk5 member
@jaclyn0405   So my U-shaped pillow is pretty huge. It's like I'm in my own little nest in our bed. The downside is you can't really cuddle but it's so comfortable. I bought it on Amazon. The brand is NiDream Bedding and the pillow cover I bought is AngQi brand. If you get the U-shaped I recommend the pillow case having some stretch in it. The first pillow case I bought didn't have stretch and ripped after awhile in the middle.
  • @kelk5 ahh okay! I like the set-up of yours better than the one I had even if it is huge lol.  I am definitely going to look into it, thanks love!

Anyone have any capri length maternity moisture wicking leggings that they recommend? The ones I have from motherhood maternity are a bit sheer and not truly moisture wicking.
  • I told my boss and HR this week. They are happy for me. I also told two coworkers. I feel like the news is not spreading, which is a surprise. However, everything has been different because of the corona. I thought about sending an email announcement, but then I didn’t want all the attention. We used to have weekly meetings, but those don’t happen anymore. I think I’m just going to do my Facebook announcement and then maybe it will spread.
  • kelk5kelk5 member
@potofgolden that's great they were happy for you. I would imagine all the social distancing makes news spread a lot slower in work places. The only other reason I think is if you didn't specify that they may share the information, they might be keeping it to themselves. When I worked unless a coworker told me I could tell people I kept it to myself.

Random question - does anyone have a belly button ring? If so, what are you planning to do about it? I’ve had mine pierced since I was 16, so like, a really long time. Was reading up
on pros/cons of removing or getting a pregnancy ring but was curious if anyone has experience.
  • @KateBee
I have a belly ring still — curved barbell. Honestly I figured I’d leave it until it got uncomfortable and then likely take it out. Like you, I’ve had mine since my youth haha (18). I doubt it will close up with any sort of speed or gusto at this point, but I also considered looking into the pregnancy “jewelry”.

@KateBee mine sealed up after or before (?) baby. I was kind of sad.

My question of the day is...is anyone wearing a belly band or recommend one? The one I used and really liked is missing (2 moves later) and no longer available. It had great (stiff) back support and good belly support. I swear I’m showing earlier this go around.
  • bserenabserena member
@katebee I've had mine since I was 16 too and have been looking into the pregnancy ones. I figure ill wear my regular one until it gets uncomfortable and then try a pregnancy one... worst case ill just take it out if I don't like those
  • @KateBee I am planning on removing mine once I start to get a more pronounced bump! It’s a personal preference obviously, but I’ve seen some of the after pictures of stretched out belly piercing holes and it kind of freaks me out. But some women have no issues at all!!

Do you guys have recommendations for those bands you can wear with your regular pants unbuttoned?
  • @KateBee I bought the cheap Playtex 2 pack. They are comfortable and work well.
  • @KateBee I have a Bella Band that was a lifesaver for me last pregnancy. It does make going to the bathroom a bit more of a process, but allowed me to go along time without maternity pants.

@KateBee +1 for the bella band. Very easy to use.

I woke up this morning and my regular bras didn't fit anymore. Are you already buying nursing bras? If yes, what are you looking for for the time being?
  • @mimser yes go for the nursing bra. I’ve seen a lot of people like the amazon ones, but I preferred the motherhood maternity ones. They are so much more comfortable than regular bras, and then you are already prepared for nursing.
  • bserenabserena member
@mimser yes, I got a 3-pack of nursing bras from Amazon. I plan on nursing (hopefully!) so I figured I might as well get some and they are SOOO much more comfortable.
  • Has anyone had babies in warmer climates? I’m at a loss for summer/warm weather babes. November-January gets maybe down to low 70s. I’m buying light zip up outfits? Our crew are generally cold weather babies. So I’m thrown off. I think a Velcro swaddle would be too heavy?
  • @name1109 I'm in Pa but DS1 is a late May baby. During the day he mostly just wore short sleeve onesies because our house is hot (no central ac, just window units and fans). At night he wore zip up cotton sleepers. We didn't swaddle him, but I would think a cotton swaddle would be okay. It kinda depends on the temp of your house and baby. He definitely was a warm baby and still tends to get hot easily as a toddler. Hope this helps!
  • @name1109 We live in CA and have very hot, dry summers, with no AC in our house. DS was a March baby, so he was a bit older when it got hot, but I was also pretty reliant on the swaddle. We had some light weight cotton ones (I remember getting a very lightweight zip up one from a company out of Australia that was specifically for hot weather. I felt bad putting him in the swaddle, but he didn't seem to mind so much. Otherwise he lived in short sleeve onesies, or just a diaper. I would get a super thin muslin swaddle and get it wet and wring it out as well as I could then drape it over him to cool him down, and it really helped (especially with a fan).

  • @name1109 we live in Florida and DD was born in Tampa in January and I remember it being shockingly hot when we left the hospital (I was so annoyed having just moved there a month prior from Virginia). We still used all the regular sleep and plays even the warmer/fleecier ones because we kept the house fair cool with AC set to around 68 because a) that was around the recommended temp for reducing the risk of SIDS and b) I was hot as hell in the postpartum days. Lmao. We did swaddle her with a thin Velcro-close swaddle but when we did that she was either just in a diaper or just in a short sleeve onesie.
  • @name1109 we’re in South Florida and my first was born in August. We put her in a swaddle every night, sometimes with muslin blankets but more often the Velcro swaddles or the zip-up Love to Dream Swaddle Up. I think she only had a diaper on underneath for at least the first month or so, with a short-sleeved onesie during the day. As cute as they were, the full-length zip up pajamas were literally only used for my monthly photos, lol
  • Has anyone been advised to avoid pre-sliced or soft cheeses even if pasteurized? I thought pasteurized was safe, but my latest OB said no Brie, goat cheese, etc. period, and she said sliced cheese carried listeria risk just like deli meat. I am more than skeptical and just curious if I simply missed that warning in my first pregnancy or if others were given the same guidance.
  • crizz13crizz13 member
@doublestroller Yeah, I've always avoided soft cheeses when pregnant - all three pregnancies.

@doublestroller yes here too, we are advised no soft cheeses
  • @acdc1109 thank you. We have the option for a/c but haven’t used it yet.

@hedgepig the idea of a onesie for a baby is blowing my mind.

@kr@krystrist2014 good point about SIDS. I have been sorting out all the cold weather stuff. I’ll keep some of it out.

@do@doublestroller i just added the Love to Dream swaddle up to my registry. Thank you!

  • @doublestroller my doctor honestly did not mention any foods to avoid this go round. And honestly, I probably wouldn’t listen to anyone telling me I’m not aloud to have soft cheeses that have been pasteurized. Lol. I just really freaking love cheese! 😬
  • @doublestroller I understood it to only apply to unpasteurized cheeses as well. There's definitely a section in Expecting Better about it, but I lent my book to someone, so I can't check.

@hedgepig @doublestroller in Expecting better, she mainly concludes that all pasteurized cheeses should be safe, but Mexican soft cheese has been linked to more cases of Listeria so she avoided that one.
  • @jaclyn0405 girl, you are speaking my language! IPA and soft cheese are some of my favorite things in the world.
  • @mia80 oh I definitely was enjoying some Brie shortly before that doctor appointment! Now I need to find that Heineken 0.0....
