@stlbuckeye132 I was considering Depends last time too! Then my bleeding let up and I realized it was kind of a waste. But I thought about it and would have had no shame in it either! lol
I did used depends and I don't regret it... but tbh I just used them like for 3 days, I was really expecting more blood based on what everybody told me...
@blaf322 so so much glamour! Yeah honestly I can't remember how much I bled and for how long, so I don't think it was that bad. Definitely had bigger things on my mind at that time lol.
I bled for just under 6 weeks, but I typically have excessively heavy periods (and a mild bleeding disorder), so there's that. I only remember the time frame because I know I stopped bleeding right before my PP checkup last time. But it's not extremely heavy the whole time like it is at first.
The extra annoying part is having to wear pads the whole time. I normally use a menstrual cup and like it *so* *much* better.

@blaf322 Glamour is a good word for it lol. I feel like I was not prepared for what postpartum would be like. Bleeding, that I was ready for. The “my uterus feels like it’s going to fall out of my ass” feeling I was not ready for lol. I haven’t seen the Frida stuff. I know there was a banned commercial circulating about it but I don’t know much about the actual products. Is it all that different from what the hospitals send you home with?
@kristinl492 they have pre-made padcicles and their peri bottle looks so much easier to use! I was going to order the peri bottle but won't need it now. They also have disposable undies, witch hazel wipes and foam and some other stuff. Those last ones wouldn't have been my jam at all b/c I'd just take the mesh undies and never really used/needed any witch hazel.... also didn't use my padcicles but, like, twice. But the peri bottle.... that looked great lol Here's the peri bottle
@blaf322 I'd seen the peri bottle before, but not the other stuff. I used witch hazel wipes for my hemorrhoids so will keep those in mind. My recovery wasn't too bad so I didn't use padcicles, just the glorious peri bottle. Actually nothing about my first was too bad, which is making me kinda nervous about this second one lol.
My recovery was pretty bloody... but not unmanageable. But not fun. Also the hemorrhoids 🙈... hurt so bad! And the worst thing second time around was uterine contractions while breastfeeding in the first couple days. I’d heard about it, but was not at all prepared for how painful they were. It wouldn’t have been a huge issue, but my ILs were in the hospital a lot and I was just miserable having contractions while feeding a baby and dealing with them. This time I might say no visitors in the hospital. Or no more than like 5 minute visits.
+1 for using depends!! But my question for others who used them... did you change to a new pair every time you went to the bathroom? I would wear a thin always pad on top of my depends and then just change that. That way if it leaked i wasn’t ruining underwear and it was still less bulky than the monster pads from the hospital. That way I wasn’t changing the depends multiple times a day.. those are expensive!
@Pascal86 Oh my gosh, yes, the contractions while BF! I was not prepared for that. I'm not looking forward to it this time, I heard they get worse each time. I kept reminding myself that they would only last a few days.
@mrsdrez My recovery was pretty similar both times, and relatively easy both times. I mean, there's a lot of uncomfortable stuff, but nothing unmanageable. Every birth can be different, but I think labor tends to be longer and more difficult the first time, so don't be too worried!
@blaf322 I've seen a few of their ads. I'm a little surprised that no one has made (or marketed well, at least) all that stuff before. I see so many people recommend padsicles etc etc, but it's all DIY and I'm sure plenty of us skip it just because of laziness or whatever, lol! They certainly have good brand recognition for that category of "better versions of common things." The peri bottle looks handy but I never have issues using the regular one. I even use it on my period to rinse everything off. They gave me frozen (diaper?) ice pack things in the hospital, but once I was home I didn't use anything "extra" besides the peri bottle.

@blaf322 hmm, that bottle looks easy to use but not sure it’s worth it when I had no real issues with the regular one. I liked the witch hazel pads and I definitely used that numbing spray for quite a while lol.
@treeofcheem I remember thinking in the hospital that the diaper ice pack was a genius invention lol. I assume they did the same thing for you, where they rip the lining of an infant diaper and fill with ice. Fits the area perfectly 😂 I only used it the night I actually delivered.
@Fullhandsfullheart yes I did the same with the depends! I’d put a pad on top and change that and then at the end of the day use just the depends before I’d throw it out and switch to a new one. No laundry for me! 😂
+1 for possibly wearing depends for a few days. Seems so easy. I like the idea of small pads on top then change as necessary (we do similar in the hospital big depends pad. Then small pad with ice on top) also I’ve had patients come in with this fridamom peri bottles. They looks super cool and easy to use. I don’t think I’d personally invest in one. But I’ve also never had a baby myself 😂 I may think otherwise trying to get the right angles with hospital supplied ones.
Also planning on hiding a pair of mesh undies at the hospital and asking for extra. No. Shame. (I’ve worn them from Fluid accidents at work and enjoy them even no pregnant lol)
Shaky hands. Anyone else? I’ve been having random episodes of it all week. I’m chalking it up to hormones/low blood sugar for now, but it’s slightly bizarre. I have no history of diabetes, gestational or otherwise, and my blood pressure is always normal. I plan to talk to my OB, but I was curious if anyone else had a similar experience.
I'm so glad you ladies know so much about the ginch game. I've been wondering what the best postpartum undies are. I'm already struggling with a bit of tinkle if I cough or sneeze really violently, so I'll probably need them sooner rather than later!
@kristinl492 I had that fairly frequently in the first trimester and slightly dipping into the second. It seemed to relate to when I'd have a dip in my BP. Now it just seems to have transferred to my mouth. I sound like an idiot trying to form sentences sometimes
I don't know if this really belongs in the symptoms game but I can't see anything else really applicable.
I've been told I'm high risk for early onset preeclampsia because I have high resistance blood flow to my placenta. Does anyone else have this? I'm trying not to flip out too much but it's worrying. I'm taking the low dose aspirin every night as per the doctor's recommendation and am taking Omega 3 supplements because supposedly those can help too. It'd be nice to know I'm not the only one.
@lizzybean84 I definitely had some more “obvious” episodes of low blood sugar with the shakiness, woozy/dizzy feeling. This is a more shaky, sometimes tingly feeling in both of my hands. I feel a kind of constant urge to stretch/shake out my hands and wrists. I’m wondering if a nerve is being compressed somewhere. I totally know what you mean about not forming sentences lol. I swear words just don’t work sometimes!
@kristinl492 Oh yes, THAT I get for sure too. I also had a weird thing with my middle finger last week where it seemed like the vein right in the middle joint was swollen or something, and my joint was so painful and my knuckle was a bit weirdly shaped, and now it's totally gone. My finger was especially tingly that day. Maybe it's the blood going to weird places/prioritizing in other parts of the body and making things feel weird, or you're right, compressed nerves!
@treeofcheem that’s what my suspicions are leaning towards. It’s more shakiness than that tingly/burning pain that goes with carpal tunnel but I think it’s something in that family. Of course, this all started like 2 days after my OB appointment and I haven’t felt like it’s so bad that it warrants a phone call, so I’ll likely just wait til my next appointment to discuss it, unless it gets worse/weirder.
I went to dentist today for my regular 6 month cleaning and checkup and have pregnancy ginivitis. I feel fine but maybe a little sore from all the scraping (which usually I have no buildup). Appt was a bit longer than usual bc of extra cleaning.
I was clueless bc I do everything same as usual (brushing and flossing daily) but I guess I'm all inflamed?! First pregnancy and second (TW loss) I had no issues with this.
But first trimester was rough and they gave me a floss pick thing and suggested electric toothbrush as thatd make me gag less (better now but first trimester was rough).
@busymom247 I swear I have pregnancy gingivitis this time too! It was never an issue with my first either (*tw or with my loss). So many different funky symptoms this time around for me. Heading to the dentist in a few weeks myself and I'm totally prepared for them to tell me that.
@busymom247 I was also told I have gingivitis a few weeks ago. I was really limited in my ability to brush my teeth the entire first trimester, let alone floss, so I was expecting it. My hygienist recommended rinsing with a combo of mouthwash and hydrogen peroxide to help get my gums back in shape. I have yet to start doing that because I just keep forgetting, so I can’t vouch for it’s effectiveness, but I’m sure she knows what she’s talking about.
This sciatic pain is getting kind of insane. I’m trying to stretch but I can’t figure out what gives relief over anything else... sitting too long hurts, standing too long hurts... I’m going to try a pillow between my knees tonight but I’m not optimistic that it will help much. Would heat or ice help? I don’t remember it getting so bad last time that I was searching for remedies 😩
@meanjellybean So! My massage therapist explained to me all about sciatic pain in pregnancy. It's because our body is retaining water, including the nerves. So the nerves are inflammed and cause pain. I don't have sciatic issues, just SI joint issues. For me, heat exacerbates it, so I ice my ass every night, it helps. The massage that made me almost cry for an hour has changed my life, it's the only thing that has really worked for me. So if you don't get any relief soon I recommend finding a good RMT that might help.
@blaf322@mrsdrez thanks! Maybe I'll call my OB's office and see if there's anyone they recommend. Of course I just had my regular appt earlier this week but honestly the pain has gotten worse since then, so I only mentioned it as a minor concern. I didn't ask what I could do about it. Maybe I'll also post in a local mom group about massage therapist recommendations for sciatic pain since I wouldn't know where to start!
It has been the week of lightning crotch here. I feel like this kid is lower than his sisters were or something, because it's already been more frequent than I remember from before!

Re: *Symptoms Thread*
Man, I wish we had reactions on here, like on FB.
1- postpartum is even more glamorous than pregnancy
2- it's usually not a bloodbath like everyone makes you think lol
The extra annoying part is having to wear pads the whole time. I normally use a menstrual cup and like it *so* *much* better.
