  • @rox7777 I have to go through stuff when my kids aren't home, otherwise it's the end of the world. Never mind the fact that they don't play with most of it. Last time I got rid of five garbage bags of stuff and they seriously didn't even notice. 🙄
  • @pirateduck I wouldn't describe myself as a girly girl either, but ohhhh my goodness, give me all the hair bows and ruffle butts!!!  It's the one thing that has me slightly sad this one isn't a girl, since it's our last.

  • @shamrocandroll I almost edited my post to say that they have to have the matching headband/bow/flower etc.!
  • @pirateduck we are the same way with DD. Totally fine with gender neutral clothes, toys, activities, etc, but I get so sad when she rejects the bows I try to put in her hair 😂 I’m looking forward to forcing all of her bows on this next baby, lol.
  • @soprano19 you only have so long before they learn to resist!
  • @pirateduck Also not a girly-girl but man I am so sad I can’t buy all the cute ruffle-butts and bows! Hopefully the next one will be a girl. Boys clothes are cuter now but just not nearly as fun as girl clothes.

Though I did just get this cute hat on clearance yesterday

  • @pirateduck Check out Zulily for some of that stuff. It's usually cheaper, so you don't feel as bad buying tons of clothes. Shipping takes forever, so it's good to buy in advance.
  • I’m not a girly girl at all. In fact, I wear black daily, haven’t worn make up regularly since 2008 and think combat boots are acceptable for every situation.

Baby girl’s nursery is pink and lavender and her closet is full of girly outfits. It must be a hormonal thing. Or having two boys that would wear nothing all day everyday if it was an option. Who knows. 🤦🏻‍♀️
  • @sunshinesea22 I have 2 little boys, and one of my favorite cute boy outfits to put them in were outfits with suspenders. Suspenders can be a really cute boy accessory!
  • @heatherlynn321 suspenders are adorable!  Also a newsboy cap on a baby with no hair makes me smile!
  • @pirateduck those pockets are adorable!
@heatherlynn321 YESS all the suspenders! And “Irish hats” as MH calls them! I do have 3 nephews and I’ve had fun buying them cute stuff.
  • @drkoyya haha love the gif. I am super not into the bows for baby girls - and am not girly myself (no makeup or nail polish, don’t care for pink) - but I must say that I have come around on some cuter girl stuff with DD. At first I felt guilty about it and always bought only neutral colors, but now I kind of like splurging on the more girly stuff at Target. It’s just cute and I am coming to terms that she can wear cute stuff and still be a strong person!   And since we are having another girl, I don’t have to worry about it whether we can use it again.
  • The biggest reason I want a girl is the bows haha I feel like I missed out on that as a kid so I need to force a child to love them. Other than that nothing really girly screams to me. Honestly I would live in plaid all day everyday and leggings. I also remember as a kid hating dresses and skirts so I am fine with whatever. DS wears sweats daily because he hates jeans and clothes (as long as weather appropriate) is not a battle I feel like having.
  • My friend has two girls and in them I see the best of both worlds.  They'll have a princess dress on with sweats and boots so they can go outside and play in the woods or go fishing or something.  It's great.
  • After two boys I'd be lying if I wasn't over the moon excited to have a girl. Gimme all the pink and bows.

  • Every now and then, like just now, I open the websites of all the daycares/preschools in the area and think I can learn something and make some sort of decision and take the next step and make an appointment to talk to someone or something and then I just get totally overwhelmed and quit.  I wish they would at least list their rates on their websites but most don't, not anywhere obvious anyway.  I also wish they would make it clearer what the youngest age kids they take is...  hmm...
  • One hour left of work...I think I can I think I can...
  • Definitely on the struggle bus at work today, wish I only had an hour left, I am the only one in our department today and there is nothing going on because of the holidays.  BORED.  Taking time off next week though, so that should help.
  • @rachelg777 and @pirateduck People think we are off (and I am not correcting them because I am a jerk) so it has been a quiet day but I am so so bored. I got everything done as early in the month as possible so that I wasn't trying to get in touch with people who were possibly on vacation these last two weeks and well it is kind of biting me in the ass now.
  • @pirateduck I just started one day by calling all of the daycares in town to get rates and availability as well as what age they will accept.  From talking to them on the phone I was instantly able to rule out a few that I didn't feel comfortable with.  When I was looking it seemed there were no google or yelp or facebook reviews for most of the daycares in our town and we didn't know anyone else in town so we didn't have any word of mouth either just my gut feel.  We narrowed it down to 3 I think and took a day to go visit those 3 daycares.  I knew going in which seemed to be my top pick based off the initial phone call, and after visiting I felt very confident in the one I thought was my #1 going in.  We've been there since DD was 10 weeks old (currently 2) and have been very pleased.  It can be so overwhelming, but once you just dive in I think you'll get a good feel for it.  Also I didn't find our local mom fb group until DD was born, but if you can find one for your area they are a great resource to get real life opinions on different daycares and also maybe you can get info on rates etc without having to call all of them.  Good luck!
  • Thanks @bananapanda !  I know I just have to go for it one of these days.  There are only like 6 daycares that are close to home and/or work, so it's really not many to sort through, unless I just want to find a private nanny/sitter situation.  It's just hard to think about sending a baby to daycare when I haven't even gotten to spend one minute with the baby yet myself!  I know they generally have wait lists etc. since there are so few so I know if I want daycare I need to be on it.  I'm just not even sure if I want daycare or just want to stay home.
  • I must be getting into the nesting phase because suddenly everything needs to be recleaned and then again and also DF is of no help because I don't think he actually cleans well enough lol. My house is looking good but damn is it tiring me out.

  • @mamaj1220 the other day my husband commented that we needed to clear out the room that is going to be the baby's room...  I nearly screamed because I've already done this, but he keeps putting stuff back in there and/or not finding new places to keep his stuff.  The only stuff I have in that room is baby stuff plus a piece of furniture that was always there that we need to get rid of to make room for the crib.
  • @pirateduck I need the space to get the rooms rearranged and it is making me crazy. I need to get DS into the toy room for his bedroom but I need the floor finished first and it repainted
  • @mamaj1220 Ugh. Just did that over Thanksgiving. Had to combine the boys into one shared room, cut down toys and all their crap. Then go through and declutter all the extra in the other room. We’re keeping a bed in there for now so I can sleep in there the first few weeks and MH has been using it as his personal room since DS2 broke his leg and I have flu type B along with DS2. So basically it’s trashed again because he’s using it as his hang out area. 😭
  • I'm glad to hear that a lot of other moms have been decluttering for the baby's room. My husband thinks I'm insane wanting to do it all this early, but we're both teachers and on winter break, so we won't get another time off until April with Spring Break, and I definitely don't want to wait that long. Our nursery was the old play room and was filled with toys. We had to start by cleaning out the boys' closets to make room for the toys that were being kept, then organize them, then figure out what was going to grandparents or Goodwill. Then we finally got the nursery cleaned out, today we put in the furniture that we have so far, and now we're just waiting on the crib to get here in 2 weeks. I'll feel better and more prepared once it's all done, even if it is 5 months away still.

Also, has anyone seen that Welch's came out with a sparkling non-alcoholic Rose this year? I'm excited about it for New Year's Eve!
  • @heatherlynn321 oh man I wish I read this post before I went to the store so I could look for it! I just got apple cider but that sounds delicious.

  • @pirateduck, I agree with @bananapanda, call them up, stop by for a visit, no commitments. I made a spread sheet with notes so that I remembered what the deadline/waitlist info is. Take your time. You can decide to change your mind once you have the baby. Lost of friends decided to stay home longer/indefinitely. But I would keep your options open by getting on the waitlist if you like the place. Things work out in the end!

We had narrowed down our list to two places. But we had some time, between in-laws, parents and my DH’s help we made it through 8 months before we needed DC. In the end, we decided for DH to stay home with our DD (until just shy of her 3rd bd) It’s what worked for our situation. She now goes to preschool (3s) full time.

  • @queenklau true, if I'm on a list, at least daycare is an option if we decide we want it, it doesn't work the other way around.
  • With my first I lived in an area where you didn't really have the luxury of being choosy about daycare, because of price and availability. We really lucked out getting a spot at the most affordable place I looked that also ended up remaining super convenient when DH and I both changed jobs shortly after DD1 was born. It was nothing fancy and didn't look like much, but it was great.

  • We have 2 new daycares opening up near us very soon. I’m kind of waiting til they’re open before planning any visits. I’ll need to take a day off work to make the rounds. We also need to do some serious financial planning. It makes sense financially for us both to continue working but finding the $1200-1500 per month for daycare will be a challenge
  • @sunshinesea22 some daycares are scary expensive.  I could buy a new car for less or rent a vacation condo!
