Randoms (Dec 28th- Jan4th)

Hopefully I started/named this board correctly.

I'm starting to nest and have a million areas of the house I want to organize/clean which DH isn't as into as me. I wish I could throw money at the problem and hire one of those fancy organizing companies to make everything accessible and pretty for me. Unfortunately I am going to have to do it myself while also trying to force DH to help out.

Gotta get ready for some petty fights in the next week. *woot woot*

Re: Randoms (Dec 28th- Jan4th)

  • @tj_2 now that we know we're having a boy I'm ready to start preparing more things so we are going to the baby store today. I am preparing myself for at least one or two petty comments from MH as well.

  • @tj_2 I am thinking about taking a day off when DF is working to just throw shit away and move it around. I’m also really getting annoyed that his family said they would help do a couple projects and now are like well I don’t know, I didn’t ask you all offered and now because you had said you would I am stuck on a waiting list to get these things done.

  • I anxiety clean on a regular basis, so nesting only amplifies my need to constantly throw away stuff. Luckily MH doesn’t care what I do around the house, he’s learned to just let me be. He did agree to paint the dresser in the nursery after I had a color scheme change. Points for him. AND he swept, mopped and did laundry on Christmas Day while I sat at urgent care with DS2. It’s not something he does often, but that’s because I tend to be a little crazy about cleanliness.
  • We’ve done all the nesting that we could this week since we’re waiting to have the baby shower. We painted and hung up some shelves, that’s it. Now that the room is dedicated for baby I want to do more! Guess I’ll just practice patience. We also decided on when we’d like to have the baby shower so that’s something to look forward to.

My hope is to have nursery all set up by the end of March.

  • @thepretzelchick yes, love kindred bravely! Which one did you get? I have the medium busty simply sublime nursing bra and it’s awesome. Can’t wear anything else these days. Had them from after DD and now can’t imagine how I wore underwire when pregnant last time. Also, word to the wise - don’t get the motherhood maternity ones that seem the same if you are busty - they are cheaper but they are too small!
  • Hooray for new bras.  I just picked up a few at Target myself.  I knew my boobs had grown and changed, but I didn’t realize quite how much until I started trying things on and realizing what size I actually am now.

My hubby and I have been talking about a pregnancy announcement photo.  Something we can send people and also post online.  I was gifted a letter board for my birthday so that will be the perfect addition!  Still not sure if we will include the sex in our announcement.  We haven’t shared that with anyone yet.
  • @adventuresawait2 It's the simply sublime nursing bra in XL busty.
  • I I need new bras so badly but I’m worried that my boobs are still growing so I’m trying to wait it out a little bit longer.
  • @mamaj1220 that’s why I went to Target, I could try them on, and they were not expensive as far as bras go.  I think the ones I liked were only $14 each.
  • For everyone that needs bras, I highly recommend these. I used them for all 2.5 years I nursed DS2 and just ordered a size up. They’re super comfy and have a wide band if you’re heavy up top. I’m a 36DDD/E and wear the XL comfortably. They also have the snap down for nursing.

  • I am in my cousins wedding in June, about 6 weeks after baby will be here and we all went dress shopping yesterday. The girl helping us said she didn’t know how to measure someone who was pregnant so she had to ask one of the other girls. She came over and was soooo loud. She was asking what number pregnancy this is, if I plan on breastfeeding (when I said no she also gave me her opinion on that) then told me how I would gain 1-2lbs a week from here on out and since we didn’t choose a stretchy dress I might not be able to wear it! I just wanted to say I’ll do and order what I want because I know my body and my pregnancy better than you! I’m already overweight and have been watching weight gain very closely. I can still wear prepregnancy jeans and shirts. I have gained 8lbs and don’t plan on gaining much more. Also, my belly will be deflated but the rest of me will probably be similar in size to what I am now. Insert super eye roll. Thanks for the embarrassment, it’s already bad enough to be “trying on” bridesmaid dresses at 21wks pregnant, 5’2 and overweight with a bunch of size 4 and 6 tall girls.
  • @JStill0603 I would try to find the same dress somewhere else that has someone good at alterations.  This is not that uncommon and someone good will be able to accommodate you.  My SIL had this issue with her wedding dress.  Wedding date was set and plans made and then she got pregnant before that and had baby about a month and a half before the wedding day.  She had a dress Picked already and had it altered and everything looked perfect and no one would ever know just by looking at her and her dress.  It’s kinda a pain but it will be just fine.  Brides can be a bit over the top and so can us pregnant women, just try and roll with it.
  • @pirateduck I bought the dress yesterday but plan to get it altered where I live (much smaller town) as close to the wedding date as possible. It’ll be fine, the one I ordered will be very big and need a good seamstress.
  • @JStill0603 do you like the dresses your cousin picked?  Are there many bridesmaids or just a few?  Will you have a ton of wedding responsibilities to worry about?  Hopefully this is a fun experience for you and not a stressful one.  You’ve got a lot on your plate to worry about without the wedding!
  • @pirateduck the dress is fine, I’ve never worn a long bridesmaid dress before so I’m kind of excited about it :) I do have quite a few responsibilities. She didn’t designate a maid of honor between me and my sister but it seems I am the one helping with all the planning. My sister is pregnant also and she is March so that complicated things even more! She lives out of state so there’s not a whole lot to be done, I’ll reserve a room and send out invites for the shower and then she wants to do joint bachelor/bachelorette a week before the wedding. It might be nice for DH and I to get out of the house after baby for a few hours but if I don’t feel like it, I’m sure she would understand that as well. I am a little nervous about day of and leaving DH with a 6 week old, 4.5yo and 10yo but we will have to get used to it at some point right?!

  • Christmas is going away, I need to have my house back. Also I need it to be recycling day so I can get rid of all the boxes and insanity. And my vacuum broke like no fixing it broke, which in some ways I am okay with because I wanted a new one anyways (it is like 6 years old) but now I am stuck here debating going to get a new one right now or doing other things.
  • @mamaj1220 Same. I need my house back. I plan to spend this afternoon breaking down cardboard boxes and putting toys away. Like your vacuum, our washing machine broke last Thursday. The replacement part was $600, so we said f-it and ordered a new one. I say get yourself a new vacuum!
  • @mamaj1220 and @ruby696 DH learned long ago that Christmas stays up until the Epiphany in our house.
  • @jrouge12 I'm ashamed to admit that one year I had my tree up until like February. Now, I have so much kid stuff in general, I just want the space back.
  • I used keep Christmas up until Epiphany, but now that's the day before DD's birthday and I want it all gone by then. Christmas and her birthday are so close that I like a clean delineation between the two.
  • My birthday is Epiphany, usually it stays until then or a couple days after but I just need to get my house back. @thepretzelchick I always have liked having a clean line between my birthday and Christmas too but DS is also 5 days before Christmas so I have been more lax about it since he came along because he always has decorations up at his birthday so I feel like I should suck it up.

DF took everything down for me because we are rearranging and figuring out where the new stuff should go, this also has led to a day of deep cleaning because I was like why not and not I am regretting that choice because my back is so tight lol.
  • I’m jealous of those with a desire to clean/organize right now. My closet became the dumping ground for everything since we hosted Christmas Eve. Zero desire to go through all the stuff.

On another “random” note: I’ve been thinking about the baby shower guest list. MH’s cousin is gay and I’m wondering if I have to invite her wife too. If her spouse was a male, he would not be invited, but since she’s female, do I have to include her? I can’t remember if she was invited to my bridal shower, but I don’t think so because they weren’t married then and she’s not my favorite person.
  • @JStill0603 that’s rough! I’m glad you were able to find a dress. I’m in a wedding next year too but it’s not until November. The Maids of Honor already got their dresses and the bride gave me instructions. Luckily she’s not a bridezilla and is comfortable with me getting the dress after baby is born. I’m overweight too and haven’t gained much wait but I have no idea what my postpartum body or boobs will be like.

@sunshinesea22 If she’s not your favorite, maybe you can get away with not inviting her? Hopefully she won’t be a baby shower crasher

  • @sunshinesea22 in my experience it’s best to invite someone and give them the opportunity to RSVP no or do what they are comfortable with
  • @sunshinesea22 agreed, jealous of the cleaning, I have no desire to do anything. I’m barely keeping my head above the water at home.
  • @ruby696 There is no shame in a Valentine's tree! 😂
@thepretzelchick and @mamaj1220 I think DH's family just has so many December/right after Christmas birthdays (including DH's was just the other day) that it's just what it is that Birthdays get muddled with the holidays. I do my best to make DH's bday feel special but the decorations aren't coming down! 😝

My #1 reason to leave things up a little longer is how early I leave for work. It's a mood booster when it's still dark (and so cold) out. We take all of the outside lights down except for some white shrub lights and have them come on in the morning until around February.
  • @shamrocandroll Ours is shedding like crazy too, I'm dreading hauling it through the living room and down the stairs...the needles will be everyyyyywhere. It needs to happen though.
  • @rachelg777 I normally don't mind it so much, but this year with hosting the family Christmas gathering, needles got tracked from one end of the house to the other and I was losing my mind trying to keep it under control!  Thankfully our tree was only about 6 feet away from the front door, so that part wasn't too terrible.

  • @shamrocandroll I get that! This morning I found several pine needles in DS's crib which is upstairs from our tree :D. Your day tomorrow sounds awesome, enjoy!
  • My tree was hanging on its last rope. Three animals, two kids and a crowded living room. I found all kinds of bulbs just randomly shoved in the tree when I was taking it down yesterday. I still have a giant stack of toys to sort through and organize, but if I do that I’ll end up destroying the boys room again.
  • As for cleaning and putting away holiday decorations I am doing that tomorrow morning. I have off and DD will be at daycare for a half day, so I want to get all of the indoor stuff packed up. DH will be taking care of the outdoor stuff on his next day off/nice day.

Now that we know what we are having I am ready to start nesting like crazy too. We need to pack up our office and get it ready for DD big girl room. Then we have a few touch ups with the nursery. I also have to go through all the bins of girls clothes I have and give what I can to my brother for his 1 year old and friend for his 2 year old.

@shamrocandroll We took ours down before going out of town this weekend because it was shedding like crazy since we bought it at the beginning of December and didn't want the fire hazard while we were gone. This is our living room and then our patio where DH dropped the tree just out of the door.

  • Our tree came down yesterday @shamrocandroll. It feels SO GOOD to have my house back. Getting the kids rooms back in shape is another story. We're going to have to do a major donation drop off soon. So. Many. Toys.
  • @m6agua That's about what ours looked like too.  I kept it watered, but it just stopped taking it in and got soooo dry.  Maybe next year, we'll cut one down fresh, but they're so expensive that way!

  • We took our Christmas stuff down yesterday just to try and rearrange our living room to make space for some of the new toys that DD received.  We ended up moving a ton of toys to our finished basement so it's a disaster now but the living room is a little more tidy.  Of course any toy we considered getting rid of DD suddenly decided it was the most fascinating toy.  I need to get better about rotating toys so she doesn't get bored of stuff.  Also realizing that just as soon as we finally get our living room a little organized with DD's toys we'll have to rearrange stuff again to make room for baby stuff.
  • @ruby696 OMG. I have about 6 boxes and 3 bags of toy donations in my garage as it is. Kill me now.
