Re: Question Thread

  • @EmilyE13 i just bought a bigger size of my usual brand from here initially. Its got to the stage that nothing will stay up over my bump, they all roll down to below 😕 but with just over 4 weeks to go at most & 2 weeks left in work, im refusing to spend money on maternity tights & will just make do with what I have 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @emilye13 I've considered getting some thigh-highs, but only on those days where it gets really cold. Then I remind myself I live in Florida and I can stand this for another 2 months.
  • @EmilyE13 I like the one's from H&M they come in a pack of two. Also thyme maternity has some thicker leggings but they are open foot.

Question: Going for my maternity shoot this week (indoor in studio), the photographer sticks with white and beige which I like. Now the question....do I get my nails done in my usual pre christmas ruby red? Or do I stick more with a neutral champagne colour haha...don't want the nails to pop out so much on the photo's since all white, but also a red lip and red nail might look nice?
  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k id go with the pop of colour!
  • ^^What she said
  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k definitely the red! It’ll look great with all the neutrals.
  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k well done! It will be stunning!
  • Good morning,  ladies! All three hospitals on our area are part of the Baby Friendly Initiative, which follows a list of rules to promote breastfeeding. My experience at one of these hospitals with my first was not great, and the pressure to breastfeed exclusively sent me into a pretty steep downward spiral into PPD and PPA when things didnt work out the way they "should."

I'm going in this time with the intention to give breastfeeding a try again, but am also fully prepared to combo feed with #2. I'm worried about the backlash I'm going to experience at the hospital if I get to the point where I need to request a breast pump or bottle.

Do any moms out there who did not end up exclusively breastfeeding have a positive experience at this type of hospital? How did you find was the best way to  advocate for yourself and your child?
  • @kategancla have you heard of the fed is best foundation? They have great resources to help you advocate for yourself in baby friendly hospitals. I had a terrible time bf’ing my son and literally starved him for the first week of his life. I have already made it known with my drs that I will not be repeating that with these babies and will pump the best i can, but will be formula feeding from the get go and will supplement with whatever i can get pumped. I will also bring formula and bottles with me and will be discussing the plan with our pediatrician as well. I think being firm in your decision and making it known what you plan is, is a good place to start.
  • @kbrown2385 Thank you so much for sharing! I've heard of Fed is Best but haven't looked into their resources!
  • @kategancla I also had a rough time with trying to breastfeed my first & ultimately it didnt happen & it got me quite down as there is a lot of pressure from medical professionals (my husband included). I will be formula feeding this time round. Like @kbrown2385 said, be firm, have a plan and make it known to your team from the outset what your plan is & whilst you are will to accept advice & help, ultimately you know your own body best and will make the best decision for both you & your baby.
  • @kategancla, My tip here is if you're going to go back and forth, wait about 2 weeks to intro a bottle. If you do it too soon, you're in danger of nipple confusion and increase your odds of failing. Also, have someone else give baby the bottle. If they have a choice between your boob and a bottle, they're going to go for the boob.

When I had my son, the hospital was very pro BF.  He got so frustrated in the early days before my milk came in. The lactation consultant wouldn't leave me alone! It made it even worse! Once we got home, it was easier. My milk came in. He didn't get frustrated. And we could relax. It took a while to get a good mix of hold positions, latching techniques, and patience. Just a note...He refused a bottle completely and would Hunger Strike if I wasn't there, making up for it when I picked him up...which led to some long nights and bouts of cluster feeding.

With DD, she latched like a pro, never had issues, and would switch back and forth between a bottle like a pro provided her milk was HOT. Not warm, HOT. Like it stung your wrist for a second when testing.
  • @FyreFlyeRush Thanks for the advice! I actually had such a hard time breastfeeding with my first that I'm completely fine pumping and bottle feeding this one early on if it comes to that. And if we have to do formula, that's fine too! I just want to be able to enjoy the infant stage this time!
  • @kategancla - I formula fed my first three, and will likely do the same with this one. I will echo others in saying that it's easiest if you tell everyone ahead of time about your struggles and that you don't want pressure.  It is already written on my chart.

Could you bring a breast pump and a bottle with you so you are ready and don't have to worry about asking for what you need?

  • Also, I would make sure that your partner if you have one is totally on board and knows your plans.  And that they feel comfortable stepping in and being firm with nurses or lactation consultants or whoever.  You shouldn't have to be the one getting yourself out from under the pressure, when you will already be tired and sore and overwhelmed.

  • i'm 35, so technically at the age where they offer a lot of extra monitoring and tests.  At my last appointment they were telling me, Not asking, that for my last 4 weeks of pregnancy they will be doing an extra ultrasound, fluid checks and stress test.  Is this normal for the 35 and over crowd?  I will add that I'm plus size, so that may have something to do with it too, but my pregnancy has been normal.
  • @manders9479 definitely not out of the ordinary I don't think but you are also welcome to decline or ask why they need so much extra monitoring
  • Anyone else dealing with the flu?
  • @alisonreif2 no! Are you?! That sounds miserable!
  • @biolprof yeah. I was in triage for 4 hours last night. Baby is okay. I feel absolutely horrible.
  • @alisonreif2 hope the meds help and you get to feel better soon and baby stays safe!

  • Did anyone else's period get worse since giving birth?? No one told me this. Mine got heavier and way more painful, I didn't expect that at all.
