So... yesterday the strangest thing happened. I was in the tub and the baby started shaking. I was convinced he was having a seizure. I looked at forums online and people said he could be stretching or practicing crying. Just wondering, has anyone else here experienced this?
@alicia__e that honestly doesn’t sound too bad. I’ve gotten them done only because I’m part of a study so I get mine for free and it’s super cool to see the baby in 3D.
@alicia__e, my BFF bought us one as a baby gift, I would say the prices are comparable, when adjusted for currency exchange. I personally find them a bit creepy, but there's no way I'm turning down a free ultrasound!
Also, I've never had the shaking thing. I've had other weird issues, like what feels like him trying to climb out of my uterus and triggering a contraction. Or hiccups, which make your whole uterus shake.
Anyone else noticing baby accessories (swings, pack-n-plays, bouncers, etc) are just so BLAH? Like everything is dull and grey or beige. Nothing is brightly colored. It's all so MUTED and BORING. Which is odd, because IIR, babies can't really see the muted and pastel colors. They like bright contrasting colors.
EDIT - OOOOHHHH I just came across the company that made the majority of things I got for DS1, and they're all still bright colored. It's Bright Starts. I used them for the tummy time mat, saucer, and carrier toys.
@marebear15, I have noticed a LOT of in your face pink. Pink is my favorite color, and even I have to admit it's WAY TOO MUCH. I don't mind the jungle/rainforest themed stuff. I much prefer it to beige. Or grey. Or white. *shudder*
@FyreFlyeRush haha. I like the boring for things that are equipment. We have a Skip Hop activity center, where the tops are brightly colored and the seat/base is boring. I like bright toys and boring support pieces.
@persnickity I'm the same haha, I can't handle looking at those jungle theme's or crazy colours all day. I do throw in some very bright toys, but the base of everything is neutral
I am 25 weeks and 2 days with my first and my stomach is still soft- has anyone else had this happen/when does the stomach look more bump like and less like I ate one too many cookies!
@nsd0108, every woman and every bump is different. I'm just now transitioning from looking fat to preggers... And some days, it's still not obvious. I'm 23w with my THIRD child. With my first, I was able to hide my pregnancy until 37w and I wasn't really SHOWING until about 30w. With my 2nd, I couldn't hide 20w, but I looked fat from about 12w until 22w.
If you're taller, heavier, a FTM, have a stronger core, all of these contribute to how fast that bump pops...as does placenta location, baby location, and baby position.
@nsd0108 I don't have advice but I'm right there with you girl! No cute bump for me yet. It's starting, but I'm still in the "Could-she-be-pregnant-or-did-she-just-have-a-burrito-for-lunch" phase. 24.5 weeks. I'm not incredibly bothered by it but its interfering with my decision whether or not to get maternity photos. No point in spending money on professional photos if I'm just going to look extra chunky rather than pregnant! 😂
@noranorabobora, you WILL start to look obviously pregnant. I'm back to is she fat or is she pregnant. He moved back into his favorite hiding spot...my back. I have maternity pants, because I'd just bought a closet full of jeans that were tight to begin with and it didn't take long for them to be uncomfortable on my belly. I...DON'T...REGRET...A...THING!!!!! Also, Maternity TOPS and dresses make me look more pregnant, and less fat girl with a beer belly.
Should we add a Birth Announcement Thread/Sticky? I know it's early, but when I did this in 2012, one of the moms delivered at 27.4 (with a happy ending). As I approach 24w, I know there are several approaching 28w. Hopefully, it won't get used, but it might be time to start thinking about it...
I agree, good idea to get a birth announcement thread started but hope it doesn't get used until late December! We had two early deliveries in my last bump board and I knew someone (outside of the board) who delivered at 24 weeks due to severe & sudden pre-eclampsia, with a happy ending - she's an active 3 year old today, but it freaked me out because I was also 24 weeks & realized these babies can literally come at any time.
So.. I'm a little concerned, I'm 24 weeks 2 days, with my first and haven't really felt much movement. Everybody describes it as "butterflies" but haven't felt anything like that.. Was thinking I maybe felt something when I was in bed roughly a month ago.. Felt like my stomach did the wave motion but on the inside... Otherwise haven't felt much.. Has anybody else experienced this? My 8 week blood work said everything was normal, and the heartrate has been strong every time I've heard it... Also the ultrasounds show lots of movement but I can't feel any of it....please give me your thoughts...
@nicoleandbaby2020 is this your first? I've heard depending on placenta placement and if you are an FTM or STM can make a huge difference in how much you can feel. If you have an anterior placenta (behind the belly button vs attached to your back) it can be much harder to feel the baby move.
@nicoleandbaby2020 , With the first baby, it's hard to tell what to look for. I told my OB I was only feeling it sometimes, because all I really noticed was her using my bladder as a trampoline. They put the doppler on, and she immediately kicked it. I felt it. It felt NOTHING like gas bubbles or butterflies. It took someone SHOWING me what movement felt like to realize I'd been feeling it for weeks. I think I was about...22w? Maybe 23? I
This is my THIRD baby, and I had a hard time telling with him, too. I can go HOURS without movement, after feeling him non-stop all day, freaking me out. Sometimes my SO and older son feel him move from the outside and I can't feel it on the inside. but, I put my hand there, and sure enough. If you're concerned, call your OB. A good OB will get you in, and take a quick listen or maybe even a peek. If you can see baby move, maybe you can associate the visual with what it feels like.
@FyreFlyeRush I have this too, the other day I somehow forgot I was pregnant or just have gotten used to the bumping that I didn't take note..made me panic after
Question: Thoughts on car seat warmers? I'm in Canada and we're already at 10C its only going to get colder. Usually my seat warmer is on max but I feel that would be too hot, is it even safe to have it on the very low setting? I know there's mixed thoughts on heat pads etc so I've never used one in pregnancy it's made me very paranoid.
@c1kc1kpol1cn1k, I spent my pregnancy with DS1 using the butt warmer, on high, the whole time, even in warmer weather because it helped my back. It'll barely raise your core temp, if at all, so it should be fine.
@nicoleandbaby2020 I would just check with your OB. It's pretty normal though, especially if you're a FTM. I'm FTM and I didn't start feeling anything until about a week ago at 22wks,6days, which to me felt like forever. I didn't even know what it was at first because for me, it did feel a lot like gas bubbles. But after noticing "hey, I don't have gas" I realized it was him and now I can tell the distinction. It's possible you may have felt it but didn't realize.
Question: does anyone have a produce delivery service like Imperfect Produce or Hungry Harvest? If so, which company and how have your experiences been? I've been using Misfits Market as a way to eat more veggies and get affordable organic foods, but the quality has only been so-so and they are increasing their prices which is making me rethink it. I also would be interested in the option of customizing the box since there's often a veggie or two that I don't use/don't like in my current boxes.
Would love to hear experiences with other produce delivery services since I'm thinking of switching.
@cats_in_a_window I am super lucky where I live. We have a local produce delivery service whose goal is to serve families with varying incomes. It is the same produce that they sell in a local fancy produce delivery service except there is slightly less choice, but almost all is still organic and local. Prices are on a sliding scale and so I pay $10 for a bag of great produce. SNAP customers pay $5 a bag! The great thing is that there are many add-ons like local meat, cheese, beans, coffee even, so that I practically never have to go to the grocery store. They don't deliver to homes, but the pick-up site is at my workplace.
We already love produce, but it is great to be introduced to so many different varieties and dd is always excited when I bring it home. Our service is called Mobile Grocery, maybe there is a version of it in your area.
@ponyoisfun that sounds like an amazing service, how did you end up finding out about it? (I'm not even really sure what I could Google to see if there's something similar in my area?)
Thoughts on eating baked Brie ? The cheese is made of pasteurized milk and cream as per the label. It’s Canadian thanksgiving and I make it for my family just not sure if i get to enjoy it either hahah. If the cheese is pasturized and baked is that more or less fine or are there other factors ?
@c1kc1kpol1cn1k I thought that if it was pasteurized it was 100% ok and wouldn't even need to be baked. Most cheeses in the US are fine for this reason (or at least, I haven't been avoiding them)
Re: Question Thread
My midwife had me go home and drink a big glass of water and put my feet up - it did the trick! So you were both spot on, hydration and rest are key.
