@DDRRT1982 UO here... is your DH’s name James? If not, I wouldn’t use Jameson because it means son of James. I’m probably way too literal, sorry. 😬 I’d also use Marcus over Mark. Totally understand that you prefer to not give a name where a nickname would mainly be used, but he might appreciate the option to have a more formal name as an adult. So, my vote would be for Marcus James. I wouldn’t side eye Mark Jameson or anything though. Just my two cents.
@doodleoodle I totally understand wanting to formalize mark to Marcus, but my fil name isn’t actually Marcus. It’s Mark. I will definitely keep in mind the Jameson part, because I just like the name and nobody is named James. Thanks for the suggestions. I really need opinion and suggestions. Last night he said let’s name the baby Hulk to piss off our three year old. I can’t get anything accomplished around here, lol.
I think we have landed on Aria Lilliana. My daughters really have very pretty names. I wanted to do Lily after Harry Potter's mom, but it didn't really go with Aria and is a nickname for Lilliana so we can always call her Lily anyway if she wants.

@leksil if you want to call her Lily you could swap the order?
@DDRRT1982 I do like Colt personally (I also have a dog named Barrett, which is a gun manufacturer so the connection doesn’t bother me), but I think Mark Jameson is great and fits better with the easy, traditional theme of the other siblings. Honestly, if you went with Colt, I doubt many people would make the connection though
Sigh...we still havent officially picked a boys name, granted we still have 7 weeks before we find out the gender and obviously plenty of time until baby day, but it's making me crazy! The girl name came so easily! So far the name we have sort of talked about is Sebastian Mykola. There aren't many first names we've really agreed on. Ethan might have been another one but I can't remember now haha. Mykola is the Ukrainian form of Nicholas and was his late grandfather's name.
Before my daughter in 2014, we had a boy’s name picked out: Derek Andrew. Now I’m not so sure I like it, but my husband still loves it if we have a boy. 😕
If we have a girl, I have no idea. I really want the middle name to be Joy, but we haven’t come up with any first names.
Love this thread! With my last we knew her name right away! With this one we had a definite boy name picked out and of course it’s a girl! This has been soooo hard! Originally we liked Anderson and call her Andie but now I work with an Andie and she’s great but it’s her name in my mind. Then my fav girl name is Charlotte but that’s what I named our cat, who I adore so everyone knows her name! And while we would call the baby Charlie and the cat Char Char it’s still just too weird haha. So here we are back at square one!
We’ve got our names picked! I am not sharing on here though because they are family names and so identifiable. If it’s a boy, baby W. If it’s a girl, baby B. Cannot WAIT to know which one it is!!

I hate picking boy names. I hated them with my first pregnancy so I only had like 5 on my brainstorming list before we found out DD was a girl and I abandoned the boy list. Since finding out this baby is a boy this week I have been dreading the name list. H suggested a name (first and middle) and I don't hate it, I may even like it. Maybe not liking many boy names will actually make it easier to name this kid since there will be so few to choose from.
We know the middle name will be Ruth (family name, all our kids have a name we choose and a family name) but we’re stumped on a first name. Happily accepting suggestions if anyone is game!
@AugustGlass here’s a few to help start brainstorming.
Evelyn Ruth Savannah Ruth Gabrielle Ruth Hailey Ruth Madison Ruth Lillian Ruth Katherine Ruth (Maybe too common but I love the name Katherine, or however you want to spell it)

@babylawyer I guess the consensus is hyphens aren’t cute lol but DS1’s last name is hyphenated, dads last name-my last name. I wasn’t sure either and just asked the nurse which was more common and she said hyphen so I figured 🤷♀️ Let’s go with that lol. I didn’t like it at first but I really love it now. I will say though at his daycare and drs office they do refer to him with his dads last name I guess since it’s the first last name they see lol. Plus it’s really common in Mexico or even just people of South American decent that have both mom and dad last names. Usually without the hyphen though. It’s definitely doable!
@jvk2012 I was the same exact way with both my pregnancies, except the other way around 🤣 We can come up with boy names we love like nothing but girl names? Impossible. We just found out it’s another boy so I guess the fact that we couldn’t come up with girl names was a sign 😅
@chipsnsalsa20 if you have any boy name suggestions you’re not using, fire away! I have no ideas for boys and plenty for girls so of course we’re having a boy 😊. We’re probably using a family name - Douglas - for the middle name. It’s my dad’s and my husband’s grandfather’s name. But no clue on a first.
@nhh11 sorry, forgot to add some ideas for boy names. I’m assuming you’d go with something relatively traditional with Douglas, so based on that assumption:
James Henry Steven/Stephen Ambrose (a guilty pleasure of mine that I know we’ll never use haha) Patrick
Just a couple more traditional/plain names that come to mind! I feel like a lot of names flow nicely with Douglas.
@Swiftlet thanks for the suggestions! we’re trying to decide how traditional we want to be. We really like Henry! It’s been on our list. And I feel like you can use the nickname “Hank” which is a little more modern. James is nice too (my grandpas name 😊) but definitely pushes us more to the traditional side.
Boy name is (hopefully) set! Abel Rhoads 💙 Although DS1’s name rhymes with Cain and I’m already getting tired of the references, hence the hopefully lol.
We have our boy name (will be a Third) but just started throwing around girl ideas. I read hubs my list and he had something to make fun of each of them. It was in good fun and made me laugh but it’s going to be a loooong road.
Current short list (middle would be Elizabeth or Jane for my sister): Cara Ivy Anne Felicity
Any other suggestions for slightly more traditional/older but not popular names for girls?
@Swiftlet I absolutely adore Ivy. It was my great-grandmother’s name. It was on my list for DD along with Rosalind (which I think pairs nicely with Jane).
@swiflet my oldest daughter’s name is Natalie, which I love and my second daughter’s middle name is Rose. Her first name is Samantha, but I would of done Rose if our last name wasn’t kind of cutesy.
@lanie1000 Ivy is my favorite right now, I think. Rosalind is cute too but I’m kind of leaning toward a name that doesn’t lend itself too easily to nicknaming. Which is ironic as our boy name is longer and he would be automatically go by a nickname But as he’s a third, it wasn’t really my first choice (I still like it though!)

@DDRRT1982 I really like Mark Jameson! If I have another boy down the line he will be named Mark after my Dad. I love family names!

We have always wanted middle names after our most beloved grandparents (James, Maisie, Carol, and Beatrice).
Other ideas (for a girl) of late:
Zoe Carol
Nora Maisie
We also love Violet but our last name is floral... so it might be overkill :P
