Has anyone tried the vitamin b6/unisom combo? How did it work for you? This nausea is becoming unbearable. ☹️
I have been taking that, but I think the b6 is causing diarrhea (fun times). I called my OB desperate for something today and he gave me zofran. I’m ok at the moment so I’ll take it tomorrow if needed.
@robynlynn2000 the B6 doesn't make me sleepy, but the unisom sure does (which is why I only take it at night). Maybe try it on a weekend just to see how you feel? FX that we all start feeling better come 2nd tri!
@optimist13 My endo actually told me that the studies done linking gluten free and helping hashimotos/hypo were extremely limited and on such a small scale that they didn't find them to be reliable. If you think you do have a reaction to it- maybe see an allergist (if that's feasible) but otherwise I'd say it's more important to eat food that you can actually enjoy in the meantime.
@optimism3 I wasn’t trying to be GF but I was for the most part gluten free just because I was watching calories. I have Hashimotos and PCOS. My MS is awful and my doctors pretty much told me to do what I can to get food down and so I’ve been eating a lot of bagels and crackers. I wouldn’t sweat it, if you’re on Thyroid medication you’re fine.
@optimism3 be kind to yourself. If you are craving something it is probably your body telling you something. Did you feel better as GF? I've been in survival mode and just eating anything that I can stomach. Hold in there the first trimester is almost over...right???

@babyroma I get this pain too. It feels exactly like the pain I get when I work out my lower abs at the gym. I only feel it when I do certain movements. And here I thought I was working my abs muscles without noticing when I've been spending my time in bed as soon as I get home. @wheresjam47 thanks for the tip. I will take my unisom no later than 8pm. It is SO hard for me to wake up in the morning. I usually wake up on my own by 6:30am and now I have to drag myself out of bed at 7:30am. Good thing I can get to work whenever I want.

Y’all I am an idiot. I’ve done this before but for some reason, I didn’t remember I was supposed to be taking TWO prenatal gummies a day. I was taking only one. And then it occurred to me that it’s supposed to be 2. This isn’t catastrophic right? I keep thinking how my friend didn’t even know she was pregnant til 10.5 weeks and she’s fine so rationally, of course it’s ok. Irrationally, I'm freaking out slightly.

@ibabyloveb87 I was insistent my first pregnancy that ALL prenatals made me puke more so I refused to take any the whole pregnancy. I ended up with a super bad vitamin D deficiency, but baby was fine. Just start taking your 2, maybe call the nurse line, but I doubt they'd tell you to do anything other than start taking 2 now that you realized your mistake. Also PSA- find something that works. Skipping the prenatal altogether is unwise.
Ok so this isnt exactly a question but i know some people have been curious, myself included. My doctor ordered a nips (nipt) test and my blood was drawn. I recieved a notification via text and email from Invitae (testing company) that they estimate the cost at $360 with insurance or I could opt to pay $99 out of pocket. But I had to decide by July 21st. I know I havent met my deductible yet, so i would probably be responsible for all of it. And while i felt it was unfair to tell me an hour before closing on a friday, I decided to pay the $99. This test will check for down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities, as well as predict the gender. I just thought it might be worth considering paying for tests out of pocket if its cheaper and you know you wont meet your deductible this year. I know I am a little concerned that anything I pay this year doesnt contribute to next year when the whopper bill will come from delivery. The financial counselor tried to assure me i wouldnt have to pay more than my out of pocket max $4000. Then I reminded her the baby is due next year. So i guess I wont pay more than $4000 this year and $4000 next year. I do wonder now if this test would have been covered as preventative? But im sure it's more diagnostic and i know labs and testing (including u/s) are billed separate from prenatal care and delivery. Also I am in Indiana if that helps.
@jvk2012 thats good. I didnt realize some ins might not go Jan-Dec. I really dislike ins in the U.S. because its more about companies making money than about the healthcare or individuals. My daughter was born with a congenital heart defect requiring surgery. It should be no question about testing this baby in utero. But then I have to weigh the pros and cons. Would I abort? No. Can I change anything if there is a defect? No. Do I want to pay $1000+ for the scan? Idk. Every heart checkup for my daughter is about $2000-$4000. If a regular u/s runs around $600 then how much will it be for a heart specialist to take a look. But in other countries it seems everything is paid for with unlimited testing. I guess I should look into moving right? Lol
Does anyone else have vaginal spotting after a difficult poop? That seemed to be when I had my spotting earlier on, and I hadn't had any spotting for the last 2 weeks or so...but tonight I was really constipated and I spotted very faintly on the tissue. General online searching suggests it is typical and can be the same reason that we spot after sex sometimes--cervix is more vascular and sensitive. But most of the online responses are from people at various stages of pregnancy, and I'm curious about this group in particular since we're in the roughly same 4 week window...if anyone else is willing to respond haha.

When did your morning sickness/all day sickness start going away? I’m 10 weeks today and the last two days the nausea has been calming down and boobs aren’t as sore. Should i be worried?
@babylawyer yes I’ve had that with my other pregnancies. It’s usually because I’m constipated and pushing too hard. You might find some ways to ease the constipation and that could resolve it.
@cari1414 totally normal. Enjoy while you can. It might come back.
Maybe this is too neurotic but I’m not from a warm place. I’m traveling for a wedding today where the heat index is supposed to be 115 and all outdoors. Is that like the equivalent of hot yoga for this gal who isn’t used to it? Ie that enough to not go? (It’s for a close friend. I haven’t shared that I’m PG yet)
@cari1414 I have started to feel much better around nine weeks and am 10 weeks today too. I don’t feel 100%, but after how I felt from five weeks until nine weeks i’ll Take it. I think I started feeling better in my other pregnancies around this time too. I know by 12 weeks I usually feel normal.
@22ksi2 I would make sure to hydrate very well and just be aware of how you are feeling. I've been trying to stay out of the heat but played 2 hours of sand volleyball yesterday evening when the heat index was 117. I chugged 3 liters of water and made sure if I felt even remotely light headed or uncomfortable, I went inside and cooled off. As long as you listen to you body, I wouldn't worry too much.
A board related Q: can we get a pinned board acronym list thread? Some of them are obvious, some of them I can figure out from context, and some of them are totally over my head haha.
First baby due February 21, 2019 Located in Columbia, SC
@babylawyer The acronyms are tough sometimes lol! There’s a pinned post “read this first” - under that there’s a link saying “what do those acronyms mean” and it links to a company glossary!
Has anyone been referred to a perinatologist, either for this pregnancy or a previous one? My OB wants me to see one for my NIPT and a "first trimester screen" because there are twins instead of a singleton. She said if everything looks good I won't need to keep seeing them but just wondering how common this is...
@Swiftlet I was referred to one for this pregnancy because of twins as well. Earliest appointment I could get was August 5. I have to get a consult, my screenings/ultrasound done to help determine the kind of identical twins they are to tell the level of risk, and meet with the high risk doc (i think that was what she said). But overall she told me it's about an hour long appointment minimum. I know they do it for twins generally, but I think I may have to continue because my doc mentioned I'm double high risk because of previous miscarriages and the fact that it's twins. Guess we'll see!
@alseltzer Glad to know! Let me know how your appointment goes And yes, she did mention trying to figure out the type of twins they are as well. Mine appear to be in two separate sacs but she said placentas are tough to visualize right now and the specialist would be best able to differentiate.
@leksiL I definitely have a hard bump of sorts lol. Like I never had a "pooch" but I do now and I'm not sure what to even call it. But the one app says showing starts in week 10 so...
Can somebody calm my nerves a bit?
I get to go Thursday for a 3 hour glucose test bc my blood test came back showing me as prediabetic.
Any words of encouragement/advice? I've heard the glucose test is awful.
@babyroma I did the one hour (not terrible tasting, but I failed) and had to do the 3-hour. I won’t lie to you, the 3-hour drink has more glucose and is so sweet that it burned my throat. But I didn’t die 😉 I’d say the hardest part is not being able to eat for that long. Bring a book or something to distract you between pokes every hour.
Take a straw to drink it with. I didn’t think it was as bad as everyone said. Call and ask them if the drink will be cold and ask if it can be if they don’t normally refrigerate it. The cold makes it less syrupy. Get orange or lemon lime flavor if you can. Fruit punch is tooooo sweet. Don’t think about what you are doing too much. just do it. Take distractions for between blood draws- like a good book or a movie to make to make time go by. I took my mom with me too so she could calm me down if I felt weird/anxious about it while I waited.

@leksiL I've been thinking displaced intestines has to be it. I feel funny in the pit of my stomach especially when I wake up in the mornings. The uterus isn't over pelvic bone just yet, but it growing has to be displacing and squishing other things. I also feel gas that feels like kicks/flutters and obviously it's not so I'm thinking intestines must just be in weird places right now.
@babyroma Everyone kept saying how bad it was but it tasted like a flat and sweeter version of sprite! The lady was super proud that I got it down in under a minute. It was actually refreshing because I was thirsty and it was super cold lol.
