Re: The Great Question Thread

  • @babylawyer I am kind of an anti-germaphobe so keep that in mind but I really wouldn’t worry about it. I feel like my midwife would tell me not to worry. I’m not a medical professional though, just my opinion.

  • @doodleoodle I can't stop laughing at your comment!

@babylawyer Oh man, I probably would be freaking out about that too! I mean if you mention it to your doctor I bet they would be like "you're fine" but I don't think they would be bothered if you asked about it!

  • I feel like asking for help on this might be a long shot, and I of course am calling my doctor’s office on Monday. I recently realized that the month in which I conceived I sprayed some of my roses with an insecticide. It may have occurred after conception, I am not really sure. While spraying some of it got on my skin and I washed it off. However, I just read online that this particular insecticide has been known to be a risk for skeletal malformations in fetuses. How concerned would you be? I am spiraling.

If you washed it off immediately, the likelihood of it being absorbed systemically to cross the placenta is probably slim. At this point, there is nothing you can do, so push that anxiety aside. We stopped spraying our yard with all insecticides because of all the articles I was reading about the dangers. It’s always saving us a ton of money!
  • Anyone already useing stretch mark cream or lotion? I’m looking for advise on what works and what’s worth the cost there so many options it’s overwhelming 😕
I agree it’s all genetic. I used an oil with my first and then with my second I didn’t use a dang thing. No stretch marks with either and I got huge. My mom doesn’t have any stretch marks either and she had 4. So I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on it.
  • Since you washed it off immediately I bet you are fine.  Not to mention there is a period of time early in development that  there isn’t exchange between mom and baby.  Even if you did have exposure, I would bet the timing of it would be during that time frame.
  • @babylawyer Very unlikely. You can always ask your doctor for peace of mind, though :)
  • Ugh. So disgusted. Bought a small bottle of chocolate milk to enjoy at the store and didn't  pay attention to the date (shame in me). Opened in and in the same motion went in for a swig and it was so bad. Like acidic. Didn't swallow a drop and ran to the kitchen to spit it out. THE DAMN THING WAS OVER 3 WEEKS EXPIRED.
    Should I be concerned?
  • @craftywitch
Yeah Im not too great at standing up for myself but I took that pint back to the store and told them how completely ridiculous it was at just HOW expired it was. I get one day past date....but jeeze!! I feel okay just cant get the taste out of my mouth! It was truly vile.

I found a pizza in the freezer once at Safeway that expired in 2015. In 2018
  • @babyroma that’s disgusting. I think you’re fine though if you spit it all out.

    @kives22020 ummm that’s ridiculous.

  • Hi. I'm confused about HCG levels and am concerned about baby. Last week my levels went down 4,000 but then rose again. I had an Ultrasound and baby was doing great. Now my levels are only rising about 4,000 points every 4 days... way below doubling. Does this begin to happen around week 7 and 8? I have no bleeding, no cramping, and little pregnancy symptoms. This is my first successful pregnancy thus far. Thank you!
  • @summer_babysprout why are they still checking hCG after ultrasound? If baby had a heartbeat then you don’t need hCGs.
  • @summer_babysprout, HCG levels peak between weeks 8-11 and then level out and even decline. I’m curious why they are still checking your HCG levels. My RE follows us to about 1,000 and then does a 6 week and 8 week ultrasound but no more HCG levels. They don’t reveal much later in pregnancy. If you have had a good ultrasound, that is a good sign.

I also have few symptoms: tired, frequent peeing, maybe sore breasts. I am 8w5d and have had 2 good ultrasounds. It can be nerve wracking but about 25% of women won’t get nausea/vomiting.
  • Thank you for all of the information! It is very helpful!!! I didn't know that after a while HCG doesn't reveal anything. They were testing my HCG because I've had so many complications in the past, including an ectopic pregnancy. They are also monitoring me closely due to my age. Today was my last HCG draw and I am very thankful!!! I feel great... better than before I was pregnant. I hear such horror stories about pregnancy symptoms that I thought I should have something. Ha!
  • Hi there. They were testing due to all of my past problems, current problems, and age. I am thankful that today was my last day. I have my ultrasound on Friday and then after that as long as I feel good I should suspect everything is going well.
  • @summer_babysprout I barely had any symptoms with my first. Totally ok! It can be worrisome but also be thankful  :)

  • Great to hear. Thank you!
  • @summer_babysprout can you tag whoever you’re talking to when replying?
  • @AlexisJoy92 I splurged on this last time and loved it! I agree there's probably not much you can do to actually prevent stretch marks, but my stomach would get dry from the stretching and it smells nice and was a nice little evening ritual :)  I like the oils way better than lotions. https://www.amazon.com/Better-Butter-Belly-Green-Lovely/dp/B00LCBXM7E/ref=sr_1_40?keywords=pregnant%2Bbelly%2Boil&qid=1563381482&s=gateway&sr=8-40&th=1
  • I kind of hate feeling like such a worry wart all the time and with this being the 1st pregnancy, it just makes that worry wart 10x worse!
I'm sure it's normal but my stomach randomly decided today to feel like a pulled a muscle! It doesnt hurt to the touch or anything of the sort. I can sometimes feel the pain more with deep breaths. Am I okay to assume its just growing/stretching pains?
  • @babyroma I had something similar happening for a while, so I am going to assume yes. But might still be worth a call to your doctor if it will ease your mind.
  • @babyroma is it in your stomach or lower? Could be Round ligament pain. I had it with my first from second trimester on....and it’s already back with this one! I have to learn to move slower and not make drastic movements.

  • @ibabyloveb87 it's in my stomach. Right next to my belly button and extends down a little bit. After reading about RLP it sounds like that could be it.
  • Has anyone tried the vitamin b6/unisom combo? How did it work for you? This nausea is becoming unbearable. ☹️

I started that this week and it has helped a ton. I take a b6 and unisom around 8pm if I take it any later I can still feel it in the morning. I also make myself eat something as soon as I wake up. The combination of the two has me feeling pretty normal.
  • @AugustGlass I swear by the unisom! But I've been doing b6 lozenges with ginger and then taking unisom before bed!

  • @AugustGlass B6 and unisom is the only thing that has worked for me!! I take 25 mg of B6 three times per day (6am, 11am, 3pm) then half a unisom at 8pm. I skipped the unisom once and felt TERRIBLE the next day. It's been a lifesaver!!!
  • @babylawyer I had this same problem with my first DD. I was in 2 weddings a week apart when I was about 5.5/6 months. One bride was very adamant and kept pushing. So, after stalling as long as I could, I told her. But told her to of course keep it top secret. She was thrilled! And she did :) it all worked out. Good luck! PS order a size or 2 up so you can tailor it down!
  • @wheresjam47 @brookert615 @malloryfrommn thanks ladies. Starting it today and hoping for some relief. 🤞🏻

  • @AugustGlass It zonked me out BAD. I felt better but I was also sleeping literally all day. I'm considering it this weekend though since I don't have to work and my MS is getting worse.
  • @Augustglass @swiftlet my doctor told me yesterday to take b6/u but im afraid i will be too tired. I cant take anything that doubles as a sleep aid. Im already working 10hr days in a factory, and i cant stay awake to watch a movie, im dozing at the wheel by the time i get to work or close to home. I think im going to just tough it out a few more weeks.
  • Anyone trying to be gluten free during pregnancy? I was GF for about 9 months before getting pregnant because it supposedly helps with endo and Hashimotos which are my awesome conditions. I think it helped with both and is supposed to be more anti-inflammatory than including gluten. Now with MS I caved last week and have been eating gluten. The last 2 days the only thing I could stomach was a bagel for breakfast and lunch. I’m having crazy food aversions and GF versions of bland food were repulsing me too so I felt like I ran out of things I could eat. Anyway, I’m a little worried about it - especially because the Hashimotos could theoretically increase my thyroid and that can cause mc.

Would love to hear from anyone staying GF and any tips. Would probably love to hear more from someone who bailed like me who can make me feel less guilty lol.

Also, any thoughts on soda? Caffeine free Diet Coke is making a huge difference for my MS and I’ve had one can every day this week but I know the sugar isn’t great.
