Has anyone else had belly pain from skin stretching? (I'm just guessing that's what this is....it's always to the right of my belly button and happens every day by afternoon...nothing helps but lying down if I can )
New one for me.. my skin around my belly button feels like its losing sensitivity like a 5x5 patch.. its not numb because I can still feel dragging my nails across my skin, but its less intense. I assume this has to do with my skin stretching? I'll ask my OB next week, but I'm not too concerned about it .
@quinniebear No stomach pain that I'd associate with skin stretch. I do get ligament pain from coughing or sneezing that hurts terribly. Maybe it's a sensitive spot from your kiddo lingering in a certain position?
@quinniebear YES! Skin stretching right down the front of my belly. I didn't have this sensation with my other pregnancies. It burns and pulls especially when I move or breathe deeply. I'm terrified that if I stretch it too much it's going to turn into a stretch mark or become permanently disfigured.
In the wee early morning hours, I suddenly awoke to an awful feeling of eminent doom. The muscles in my left calf were tight, and I knew that one small movement, even the slightest twitch would result in a cramp. I panicked, and tried to lay still, but the muscles tightened more and more, slowly edging their way to certain agony. Then, suddenly, an overwhelming pain consumed my calf and shot up the back of my leg. I could feel it in my ass. I gasped. I cried out. I grabbed the bed. "Hooooolyyyy Hell!" I cried out. At the moment, I was certain that I had never felt a pain so strong in my life. I could not think. The muscles in my calf felt like they were trying to break in half, bending the heel up to reach my knee. "Legs don't bend that way!" I panicked. I desperately tried to move my toes up, in the opposite direction, they would not budge. Desperate to alleviate this nightmare, I dragged myself to the edge of the bed. My water bottle was in reach, and I quickly emptied it. Dehydration caused cramps, I remembered, and I felt the tightening relax ever so slightly. Hoorah! What a hopeful sign! I reached down to massage the muscle. Surely, that would help further. NO! It did not! My muscle screamed where it was touched. I lay back, almost ready to give in to this unyielding pain. Surely it would bring the sweet peach of death to me soon, and I would no longer hurt. Mr. Wyatt, my ever loyal dog whimpered, sensing something was wrong. He nuzzled my hand, and turned his puppy dog eyes to mine. I could not give up. I had to fight. As I writhed in pain, desperately tried to remember what I had read about other's experiences. "Stretching!" I recalled. I had to get out of bed. My leg right leg found its way to the floor easily, and I dragged the left to hang next to it. Leaning towards the closest wall, I put pressure down on the foot. OOH! It was too much! I pulled back, and tried again, this time ever so gently. Gently pressing my heel down to the floor, gently leaning my chest to the wall. Yes! That was working! I can get through this! I stayed against the wall, pressing down slightly more as my calf allowed. Occasionally venturing a test, letting up on the pressure to see how the muscles responded. Immediately returning to the stretch when the cramp tried to return. It took many minutes of hugging that wall before I dared venture away from it. I did survive though, and will never forget the epic battle that took place in my bedroom last night.
Oh my gosh! I read about leg cramping earlier this month and thought "its just a leg cramp, I've had those before, not a big deal". My goodness. I was wrong. Ladies, I am so sorry I doubted you. I was hit with a cramp early this morning, and feared it would never go away. I wrote about the epic battle in the spoiler, if you'd like to hear the tale. Today I've been drinking lots of water, ate a banana (mom used to tell me to do that), and am doing calf stretches any time I stand up from my desk. Any other tips to prevent these?
@fromcatstokids Ugh, I had a similar battle with my first pregnancy leg cramp You did the right thing by getting up and standing on it. I usually keep my cramped leg straight and bend over the bed little by little until my muscle calms down. Sit on your couch/recliner and keep a heating pad under your calf for an hour or more tonight--when I do this, the lingering pain is usually gone the next morning. And yes, water and potassium are good things to consume!
I am so miserably hot today and no amount of drinking cold water or tea is keeping me from feel nauseated. About to get lunch early to see if that helps at all. Blech.
@jennm0724 yes, me too with the foot swelling! I keep wondering, why do I have ONE cankle? Not that I’d like another, but I don’t understand why it’s just the one. Maybe I rolled my left ankle or something. (Oh, look at me, trying to find a rational explanation for anything that is happening in my body right now!)
Though I’m not sure if they would help leg cramps...they might... THIGH HIGH COMPRESSION HOSE are changing my life right now. ...And I never write in all caps... If your feet are swollen or achy and your legs are tired and bitchy...these damn old lady hose will revive you. I actually feel like walking more and have more energy (to a degree 😉). Just sayin...and thigh high is better than knee high (by a lot). Worth mentioning here in the home stretch! Maybe a pair will perk you up... They are not super easy to get on, but worth it!
I have this really annoying numb patch on the top of my belly. I've had it at the end of both of previous pregnancies and it's starting again. The weird part is it's super painful, even though it has little feeling. I've looked it up and apparently it's my nerves. It hurts the most when I'm sleeping on my sides, but I just have to deal with it. I just kind of try to raise the height of my belly with a pillow and it help a little.... ugh!
@pizzaplz Is your one foot totally normal and the other swollen? If you rolled your ankle, it would hurt to touch it. That might be something you'd want to call your doctor about.
Weirdly, it doesn’t hurt to touch it, it’s just swollen. Well, was swollen—it seems to be back to normal now. But @hestia14 and @key33, thanks—you’re right that it’s probably wise to bring it up to my doctor.
@asupernovablizzardstorm@hakele@indulgentgypsy I get that too, even just from using a fork or picking up a mug or driving 😩 I think it's carpal tunnel. Mentioned to my midwife and she was just like, yep that happens. Lol.
Ended up going to L&D again bc of the pain in my abdomen. I swear it feels like I'm becoming a hypochondriac and that is so not me. General consensus was, that's weird but your labs are all normal so.....take some tylenol. 😠 Tylenol is useless so I've just been living with it. Rest helps. Ready for baby's eviction day to get here.
I have never in my life had a cold sore and all of a sudden my entire right top lip is swollen to the point where I look ridiculous and there's blisters. I had a Nst This morning in L&D and the resident there sent over a prescription to take care of it and said that it's completely normal because or hormones, stress and fatigue. So frustrating!!
Ladies with carpal tunnel symptoms: please please rest and immobilize your wrist with a brace. Infant-carrier-season is coming and it could exacerbate it. Get a brace before the baby is out.
Last baby I had a combo of CT and dequairvains and it felt like it took a year to heal bc I didn't act fast enough and tried to "power through" it. Don't be like me lol.
Just a quick interjection: I saw this video on reddit a few months back. Seems like a good technique for picking up a baby carrier! I’ve even seen someone doing it this way in the wild... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.today.com/today/amp/tdna113190 Now back to your regularly scheduled symptoms! I’m feeling super heavy and lumber-y today.
I had carpal tunnel with my first and it got bad fast, and was n several years before it resolved completely. Definitely heed cbeanz's advice and use wrist braces!

I googled it and the interwebs said that it is totally a normal pregnancy symptom to get carpal tunnel syndrome due to the swelling. I've been icing to help alleviate the pain. I'm also going to check in with my aunt who is a PT and ask for some exercises to do to help with it.
My symptom of the day is just being so tired. I know we're all on the same boat but I miss a good night's sleep. Luckily, I have been able to start drinking coffee again without getting an upset stomach so that is helping with the tiredness.
Regarding the carpal tunnel, I haven't had any issues but a friend of mine is due in june with her second and started using a brace early on because she had issues with her first pregnancy!
I don't know if this will be a helpful tip at all but..
I had really bad carpal tunnel w/ my last pregnancy due to using my iphone a lot for texting, apps and internet surfing. The effects lasted for upwards of a year postpartum. This time I am less so on a phone except to read and at the tiniest twinge of pain I tend to take a break and I haven't had anything lasting thus so far.
I think I have been having some issues from using the mouse at work... You all are making me realize I should probably get a wrist brace to avoid it getting worse. Thanks!
@quinniebear oh no. thanks for the advice. Will definitely be getting a brace. I never has this with my first. Pretty all of this pain i didnt have with my first pregnancy.
@jennm0724, yes! Same with the bladder shooting pain! At first I thought it might be a UTI, but it doesn't last. I have heard of "lightening crotch" during pregnancy, but this is like "lightening bladder" specifically in the urinary tract. I have attributed it to baby changing positions and perhaps kicking or asserting force on the bladder which causes that sensation.
My main 3rd tri symptoms have been excessive heartburn starting around lunchtime and lasting through the night. I take a Tums sparingly when it feels like pure acid and they work wonders! I also have had serious shortness of breath, but what is weird is that it doesn't always occur with activity, the most severe attacks have happened at rest, lying on my side or on on my back on an incline. Lastly, feeling huge and slow and aching in my hips and lower back.
@julybaybay The shortness of breath could be related to acid reflux, especially if it's worse lying down. You may want to double check with your doctor if there's something else they want you to take for that.
So I haven't posted in a while because life is insane but is anyone experiencing vulvar varicosities? I've seen that some of you are getting varicose veins on your legs... but is anyone lucky enough (like me) to get them on your labia? No?
Yes. It's not dark colored or superficial, and I wouldn't be able to see it if I hadn't done some investigative shaving to see why it felt bulgy. I'm pretty stoked about it. Not sure if it's a pro or con that it's just one labia... I guess it has something to do with how baby is sitting. Ugh. So sore by the end of the day.
