Re: April Randoms

  • There is a measles “outbreak” in the next town over from where I live. Right now it’s only a handful of cases but 😡😡🤬😤😤🖕🏽🖕🏽🖕🏽
  • Loading the player...
  • @RedBreast35 I reached out to my local mom's group on facebook asking for nanny/childcare recommendations. A lady commented and said she just had a little one and is looking for another to care for. I was thinking cool, that could work out, after some serious vetting.. she lives right now the street! Not a week later in the same group was she asking for pediatrician recommendations for her baby who "didn't push shots." I knew these people existed but I had NO idea how close to home they were!
  • @nomangos23 Infuriating!! This shouldn’t even be something that has to be on your radar screen!
  • @RedBreast35 I just had a thought... Do you think I need to call the daycare center we're leaning towards and ask if they require shot records? Or is that a given? I really have no idea.
  • @RedBreast35 @nomangos23 Ugh! This terrifies me! It's more common place to have baby showers where I am from once the baby is born, but I don't think I am going to have one because I am terrified of people snuggling my baby when it doesn't have an immune system let alone any vaccinations yet! You never know who has or has not gotten them now, and I will not jeopardize my baby's health so you can snuggle it. If I do have one it probably won't be until he/she is 3-4 months old, which is quite late, but I don't care. haha

  • @nomangos23, @RedBreast35 That legit makes me ragey. I work in “big pharma” and believe me - NO ONE WANTS TO POISON YOUR KID!!!

Also, idk about Texas, but the registered daycares (with license #s and all that) in CA absolutely require up to date medical vaccination records. And a note from your Doctor saying that your kid is healthy before they even start there.

@nomangos23 my daycare center requires it and was very up front about it from the beginning.  They flat out said that children won't be accepted without vaccinations (same with the pediatricians office we chose, now that I think about it).  I'm guessing there is a different policy for immuno-compromised children, but since that's not the majority, they didn't even mention it.  I would definitely ask if I were you though... there are parts of the country where it may not be as "required" as you'd think it is...

eta @kaceyallan totally agree with you- I may even refuse one all together after baby is here with this shit storm that’s brewing.  I may also avoid all holiday celebrations outside of my parents and in-laws this time around as well.
  • @nomangos23 @RedBreast35 that's so rage inducing! I'm so scared that something that was nearly eradicated is making this crazy comeback because people are reckless.

And like others have said, licensed daycare centers are supposed to require vax records. Ours asks for updated versions every 6ish months.

  • @RedBreast35 I’ve been keeping an eye on the measles news as well (we might be thinking of the same town). I’m with you all - it’s so infuriating! I get irrationally angry at people who are against flu shots, much less something crazy like measles!
  • @nomangos23 most likely your daycare center requires it, but I would 100% call and ask just to be certain! It will provide you with reassurance, just in case! We have had a huge measles outbreak here and there are a lot of anti-vaxers, so I always question it everywhere. Luckily I specifically know our daycare turned away a family because they refused to get vaccinated. Kids catch enough illnesses at daycare.... no need to add even more preventable diseases to the mix! We literally have been non-stop sick since the fall!

@cammie0526 definitely induces disbelief, then frustration, for me as well.
  • I'm so pissed you guys. The one question I forgot to ask while touring our daycare center was about their vaccination policy. So I decided to email them when you all brought it up here. They don’t require vaccinations… And she even said there were a handful of kids not vaccinated that are currently attending. WHY!? MH seems to think it’s no big deal and the chances of anything happening are low. So now it’s basically on me to decide if we want to chance it or find another daycare center. I’m so pissed.

  • Hey everyone!  Life got a little nutty for a while there so I kinda disappeared :-)  Hopefully back now!  Hope everyone is well

Also, add me to the frustrated as hell over the anti-vaxers wagon.

  • @LJMoon6 I’m so sorry. That’s a big decision on you. When is your LO scheduled to start attending? By 4 months they have a lot of shots, obvi 12 mo is ideal but we live in the USA so that’s not gonna happen. No MMR though by 4mo...maybe you can be on the accelerated timeline for that?😕 See spoiler for immunization schedule straight from the CDC. It doesn’t hurt to look for alternative centers even though you already love one.

  • @LJMoon6 ughhh I'm sorry! That would be so frustrating. I am honestly shocked that they don't require them (at least for those that CAN get them). It's hard for people to understand the risks when they don't have children and don't do any research so I'd have your husband look into all the scary things kids can pick up and I am sure he will change his tune!

  • @LJMoon6 That sucks and I'd be so pissed too if I was you.  TBH, not requiring vaccines would be a deal breaker for me... especially if you're going to be sending LO before s/he's had at least the first round of shots.  Babies get so much (basically unpreventable) crud at daycare like colds, puke bugs, etc. and you shouldn't need to worry AT ALL about the preventable ones.
  • @lillywonderland I’ll be going back to work when he’s 3 months. My coworker was just telling me about measles parties… I did not believe him. I had to google it. I’m still shocked they used to do these. Thanks for that chart. It sucks so much that we even have to think about this.

@zuuls_mom This daycare is a privately owned, Christian based facility. I’m still just in shock. MH is so stubborn, there’s no way I’ll get him to look into it.

@redbreast35 It’s so frustrating to even have to think about this. Ugh!

One of my friends brought up a good point. The babies are in separate rooms from the rest of the kids anyways so there’s at least some level of protection. Idk. It doesn’t guarantee that one of the other babies doesn’t pick it up from their unvaxxed sibling. Ugh. And I just found out that some mom’s have had to call over 80 different in home daycare providers to find one that was accepting at the right time that they needed (and it’s common for them not to call you back if they don’t have a spot). Why is this so hard!!!

  • @LJMoon6 tbh, I wouldn't consider the separate rooms much insulation, for the reason you mention, but I haven't been faced with looking for daycare and know this must be a really hard decision (and even harder with YH ceding it to just you). I'm sorry you're dealing with this, what a headache. It's possible YH will come around to thinking it is more of a big deal when your LO is born - DH and I theoretically knew newborns were tiny and vulnerable, but the full reality of it didn't sink in until DS arrived.
Noticed this morning walking into the building for my scan there was a measles alert posted on the door about the confirmed cases around the country. It's crazy to me we have to worry about this. With DS I was nervous about pertussis, but measles wasn't really on my radar yet as a pressing cause for concern - that sure has changed.
  • @themadcamel Thanks for that laugh!
  • I forgot my tea this morning. How sad!! ☕️
  • A separate room is not enough. Not with measles outbreaks popping up everywhere. It is just so, so contagious.
  • I skipped breakfast today, mostly because I didn’t want to eat my daily oatmeal but also because I was too lazy and then forgot to go get something else. By 11am I started to feel super dizzy. Like, I can’t walk a straight line dizzy. Currently stuffing my face with a pasty, hoping this dizzy spell subsides soon!

Wow. Just, wow. Is it the hormones that make picking a fight with internet strangers seem like a good thing? Or just the lack of consequences that would occur if anyone acted like that to someone's face?
  • My boss had her baby Monday at 25w5d. So scary and sad. I guess baby’s stable but obviously in for a long journey. I can’t even imagine.
I think the worst part is that they were in Florida on vacation, so not even anywhere near home. Sounds like they will be in FL for a while.
  • @calliah my cousin had her twins at 27 weeks. Both just turned one a few months ago and they are perfectly healthy!  Was a long stressful road at the time but all turned out well. Wishing the same for your boss 💕
