@LifeofLauren2 ugh, that is so hard!! I had a very similar experience and all I can do now to keep my sanity is to acknowledge what is true right now- I saw a heartbeat, ultrasound was good, etc. Take care.
@LifeofLauren2: Hugs from here too! Dealing with PGAL anxiety as well, and it's the worst.
*TW for Person Being Anxious* My OB's nurse just called and said to re-up my progesterone (it had been halved 2 weeks ago) because my levels at 13w are at 27. I looked it up and 22-147 is normal, but I'm still freaking out because my levels were at 27 three weeks ago so it's like I plateaued (although I was on twice as much med then.) Everything I have read indicates that the placenta should have taken over by now, so why aren't levels higher, or does that not affect tested levels in the blood? I should have asked more questions, uggghhhhhh. *end TW*
Sorry for the rant, but I think DH, very patient by nature, is in need of a break from the worries of his super hopped-up-on-hormones wife...
It’s 8:30 and I really need to go in to work and prep for my morning classes. But my car is soooo warm and cozy. Anyone else just love hanging out in a warm car? I’d even do this in my own driveway. Lol
@professormama my car’s heated seats are THE.BEST. Prep in your car.
I swear I replied to a thread about teachers announcing to students last night and it’s just...poof! gone. I’ve only ever seen people able to change the title and body to “deleted”...how is this possible?
@lyse01 if the thread is gone entirely that means the BG's took it down. Usually it's for violations of the TOU when that happens, otherwise they'll just close it entirely.
@LifeofLauren2 we haven't announced on Facebook for the same worry. We didn't announce last time but I'm terrified of 'jinxing' it. I know it doesn't work like that, but my brain is not letting me be rational.
I’m getting sick of living in the Bay Area. I’m really considering moving. Maybe Colorado. I just hate the idea of researching schools for DD again. It’s just insanely expensive here. For the price of the house we are living in, we could have a 7,000sqft house in Colorado ( not that I want a house that big).
I hear you @harveyisaboysname! We just moved from southern California to Colorado and I feel like I live like a king! I've loved the change of pace and literal scenery. Oh and I just bought a 3000 sqft house! No way I could have ever done that in LA. ps. Colorado has "choice" schools, you can go to any school even if you don't live in the district...DD goes to a PUBLIC MONTESSORI school. For free!
@harveyisaboysname I live in north Bay Area and in a fire area (Tubbs fire.) and housing has skyrocketed. If we can we will be moving next summer or fall. It’s over $2000 a month for a tiny two bedroom cabin/house. It’s absurd. Gas prices are $3.55 a gal at the cheapest place and closer to $3.80-90 at the normal places.
We want to get a job near family in MN or NY and buy a 4 bedroom house at least, and we could do that for less than we pay rent here. Just need the job.
I read every post ladies! Good thread.
I couldnt imagine not knowing I was pregnant. I mean, I knew before the test was positive both times. But I think if the test was negative it would be easier to decide it was weird weight gain or something.
We had a trip to the playground turn into a $125 opthomology visit because dd got poked in the eye with a toddlers finger/nail. Scratched her cornea. So yesterday was exhausting and stressful and more expensive than it should have been. The one day of rest with a patch on her eye went ok and she is doing better today.
As far as baby purchases, I agree wait for the shower unless you find a deal on a big item. I’ve collected a few neutral items from second hand places and I’ve made some baby pants (we do cloth diapers and they never fit regular baby pants, mine have extra space for the cloth) and am waiting for the anatomy scan to make more specific pants.
I also bought a diaper bag used. It is a petunia picklebottom and I loved my friends when I watched her daughter. So I jumped at a “for sale by mom” post on Facebook.
I havent discussed with anyone if one if I will have a shower for this baby yet. I’d like at least a sprinkle because I really like gatherings and celebration. We will really need some things if it’s a boy because most of our girls clothes were hand me downs and super girly. I at least have a small selection of neutral clothes in each size.
Im feeling baby move too sometimes. Maybe 5 times total in the last 2 weeks. Looking forward to more movements.
Ohhh yeah @harveyisaboysname I totally get your issues with the Bay Area. H grew up on the peninsula so we moved out there for a few years in our twenties until I demanded we come back east where I'm from. For a while all I heard was how he wanted to go back, and then it was like a switch flipped and he realized it would be miserable trying to afford a decent place out there. A 9-figure teardown is not on my real estate wish list. Mind you, we live in a desirable suburb near NYC, so it's pretty expensive here too, which makes it all the more ridiculous how overpriced the Bay Area is. Now when he talks about moving he mentions places like Florida - not sure I'd really want to leave NY, but we definitely go down the rabbit hole fantasizing about building our own brand new house with tons of bedrooms and a big in-ground pool.
@kbirchtree I live in St. Paul, MN and it is the greatest! Cost of living is low, schools are pretty good and the city is beautiful. The weather can be hard to adjust to, but we have so many fun winter activities so it can be enjoyable.
I’m really trying to convince my parents to move to Colorado. I need at least one set of grandparents with us because we rely on them so much for babysitting or just general help with things.
Without one of them on board, we are just going to struggle until DH starts making big money. I’d love to say until I start making big money, but I don’t think I could pull in 400k a year by just waxing lulus
@professormama, I would take this opportunity to order myself lunch. Unless I really wanted that pizza! But, I probably would still toss it. Why risk it?
Mommy to an angel baby and a sweet little girl Earth side.
@professormama does it smell weird? Was your purse sitting in the sun? Does it have anything on it that would go bad in five hours, like dollops of ricotta? If not, I’d probably eat.
@MRDCle@LifeofLauren2 it was just cheese pizza, but it was homemade! But I guess I will toss it. I also have 4 day old chicken salad in the fridge. Possibly also questionable.... i did eat two donuts from the break room though. That counts as lunch... right? I can leave and grab a snack once my office hours are over I guess. Im thinking queso....
I’m so sick today, and doing literally anything has been a challenge. But dragging my butt out of bed to the midwife was so worth it. Hearing that heartbeat will never, ever get old. ❤️
Eta we also got a date for our anatomy scan. Wednesday before thanksgiving! If we are able to find out the sex that day, we’ll announce it to family at dinner the next day.
Okay it’s officially tossed. It smelled a little funny. Two donuts and delicious queso is the new lunch plan. (Don’t worry, it’s queso in the texmex sense, not in the unpasteurized cheese sense).
@midway_mousey husbands family is all over the twin cities and within 1 hr from them. So we’ve peeked at the housing market and I like the St. Paul area and up as far as Fridley is well within our budget if Dh got a job at one of the universities there.
To add, I havent purchased anything for this baby either. But I refuse to until I know the sex. If it’s a girl I won’t need much, because this one and DD will have the same birth month and therefore ought to fit in roughly the same clothes per season.
Also, my random: I just did a yoga flow for the first time in literally 8 weeks because I finally had enough energy, and first of all, it felt amazing. But secondly, I am soooooo tight! Stopping suddenly for two months made me realize just how much yoga had been doing for me as far as strength, flexibility, and overall well being. I hope this second tri energy continues so I can keep going. Anyone recommend any great prenatal yoga videos?
@HGRich I’d love some good prenatal yoga videos too! I wish I had a recommendation. The studio near me has their prenatal class at 8am on Saturdays- lol no.
DH is out late tonight with hobby buddies and I made a huge bowl of white rice with salsa and sour cream for dinner. Food of the gods!!
@kbirchtree a scratched cornea is super painful (my sister scratched my moms when we were younger) Hope your DD feels better!
I spent the past 5 hours furniture shopping with a toddler and 5 year old, and no one took a nap! OMG I’m so exhausted lol. My parents our buying us a new sectional as a thank you for letting them live with us as they sell their home. I found one I love but the configuration is backwards from the one we have and it’s not reversible. So trying to decide if we can make it work in our awkward shaped living room
@blueberrymomma she is much better today, the eye didn’t mind being open. She scratched mine when she was like 4-5 m old and it was so uncomfortable. Now I know I should have gone in and gotten it tended.
+1 for hoping someone has good suggestions for prenatal yoga videos
Another random question (not related to other conversation in this thread so far): how do you ladies remember to do kegels? I have been ok about remembering to do some right when I try to go to bed at night but that’s about it. I think when I first heard about them years ago, the suggestion was something about “do them when on the phone” but I don’t call people every day, nor did I do kegels. Now it’s more important though...? Anyone actually good at doing kegels throughout the day or is that just an aspirational thing?
also, Bay Area is insane. We just moved from the South Bay to West LA and it’s strange that costs here are sorta more reasonable. That said, I can’t wait to move and hope to before this child needs to go to school.
Re: prenatal yoga. I've just been doing the ones included on Amazon prime video. They're not super amazing, but they're also not as cringey as the ones I did when I was pregnant with DD. I also checkedout a book of prenatal poses to flow through on my own. The studio I got to only has hot yoga available during times where I'm free, and it just sounds so unappealing right now. I'm definitely missing going to yoga on the regular.
@mesweettea, I definitely don't remember to do them daily, but somewhere I read said to do kegals while driving! I occasionally remember to do that, haha, because I'm in the car every day, even if it's only for a ten minute drive to work.
@wildcosmiclove yeah, definitely don’t do hot yoga. That’s a no-no during pregnancy because it raises your body temp too much.
For those of y’all discussing moving somewhere cheaper- we moved for my career from a large city to a small-ish town that is part of a metroplex. Cost of living is much cheaper, and ourhouse is nicer (though not really bigger). But we were really spoiled to living in a city it turns out. Now have to drive a good 30-45 minutes for most of the shopping, food, and even entertainment we enjoy. We are reasonably happy here. But also definitely planning to make it back to our city eventually. Sometimes moving somewhere cheaper means giving up a lot of access to things you enjoy.
@mesweettea I just have a reminder in my phone for every night, "Vitamins and Kegels". If I haven't cranked them out during the day then I can take the time to get them done while I am getting ready to settle into bed.
Honestly, it also helps that I see a pelvic floor physical therapist every couple weeks to check on my progress. It's motivating to show her that I am improving.
I had an unexpected trip to the OB yesterday because a kid hit me in the stomach at work. Rationally, I know babe was ok and is well protected but after IF and a m/c, I was panicking and left to go make sure. The nurse couldn't find the heartbeat at first and then I really started panicking and then my doctor magically appeared (was supposed to be at the hospital) and said he heard I was there and when he didn't hear the heartbeat, he decided to step in and found the HB almost immediately. Thank God for an OB who actually cares about his patients.
Talking about moving.... Last year we moved to an 'up and coming' area. It was a great move for us. We are currently about 30-45 minutes away from some things but the area I live in is getting build up fast. When I first moved here the only food we had within 15 minutes was 1 pizza place, a jersey mikes, a chipolte and mcdonalds (and all those places JUST opened) now we have about 15 places plus an earths fare (think whole foods) just opened and LOTS of new things being built. Its fun

I want a glass of wine so bad right now. A huge glass of Cabernet would go so well the the homemade pizza we are having for dinner tonight!

Agh, I saw a rug on sale online that’s super good for a nursery but I feel like it’s way too early to buy that kind of thing. Why did I look?
