  • @MRDCle @gollygeeitsamy it was just quite the read. The lurker was rude, but I found one of the “regulars” responding to be even more awful. Could not believe the condescension there. Why be so active if you’re just going to turn around and be rude to people 🙄
  • @ysotte: Aww, sorry to hear that! Fingers crossed you find someone. :(  My SIL is in a similar situation due to having emigrated and can't see a doctor for even the first time until December, despite also being an April 2019er! These kinds of things are the WORST!
  • I can’t have chamomile tea! I can’t have anything without checking with doc because I’m high risk. How aggravating! I’m having bread with dinner tonight and they don’t need to know that!!
    Sorry for that random rant!
  • Was that "Deleted" thread our first BumpAdmin swoop? If so, we're doing pretty well, ladies! Made it out of the first trimester hormones and everything before things got too "spicy" (in the words of March 19).

  • on march19: honestly, I wish our board was a little more active on weekends too. My weekends and weekdays look the same, and even if they didn’t I’m surprised so many people only bump at work! I try to post a product spotlight on the weekend specifically to give us more to talk about then.

That said, active =\= drama, and that thread devolved into drama.
  • So my belly is really starting to grow these days, and it’s getting freaking itchy. Time to slather with Shea butter.
Also I ended up announcing that I was pregnant to one of my classes today because I got so winded I had to sit down and take a lecture break. I hadn’t intended to tell them, but oh well. They were really sweet about it too, although I moved us back to lecture super quickly. No questions!
  • @TheSouffleGirl It was hard enough waiting as long as I did for my first appointment. I can only imagine having to wait until December. I just don’t understand all the hoops to jump through just to be able to receive care.
  • @lyse01 my friend had to jump through so many hoops to get her shots too. The insurance kept changing their mind about covering them even though she went into unexplained preterm labor 5weeks early with her first. Glad you got your shots

@BarefootContessa OMG that is crazy. I feel super stalkerish but I need more info lol. Like has she had kids before?
  • @BarefootContessa that is crazy that she didn't know! Always throws me for a loop when I hear stories like that

@kosmo86 that'll be nice to be able to announce that way with Christmas pictures! Do they have a percentage of accuracy with it being so early? I don't know the best time to be able to tell gender on ultrasound but I know the earlier it is the less accurate.

I get to pamper myself today by getting my nails done! So excited since it's been quite a long time since I've had the time to do it. Figured I have a wedding to go to Saturday so now would be a good time since I have an excuse. So ready to be in that salon chair and out of my desk chair lol.

  • @blueberrymomma it’s insane. It reduces the chances of preterm labor by THIRTY PERCENT. (And very likely makes the remaining preterm labors less preterm, like at 34 weeks instead of 26, though the studies don’t explicitly cover that.) This should be standard care in insurance handbooks as much as it is in OB offices, because it so obviously reduces NICU costs.
  • I have not bought a single thing for this baby. Absolutely nothing. The rational side of me says to wait until after the anatomy scan. But I still don’t have a date for that, and I’m getting antsy. What did y’all buy for your first baby purchases?

I've bought some cloth diapers but that's about it. For DS we bought a little bib/shoe set for our fave local team and a blanket but that wasn't till probably sometime between 20 and 24 weeks.

With my first, I was so excited and I really wanted to make a few little purchases to make it feel real and begin to feel like I was preparing just a little. I think I bought some sweet, gender neutral Freshly Picked Moccasins and a BlaBla Doll, and maybe a little gender neutral Locally Grown Onesie? Just a few things that would have worked for a boy or a girl, and specifically I bought things that felt like special treats - splurges that I knew I probably wouldn't buy once I was spending a gazillion dollars trying to seriously prep for baby.
  • @lilpotatomama oy I feel like a shopaholic in comparison. I've already bought a few sets of matching pyjamases for the twins, a double stroller and the latest purchase was two baby bouncers. All the big ticket items were bought second hand though. What are you most excited to buy?
  • @MRDCle that’s cute! That’s probably how long I’ll wait to buy stuff, especially considering I’ll be 20 weeks during thanksgiving. I probably won’t start seriously shopping until Christmas time.

@professormama I have my eye on this absolutely adorable set of Christmas print footie pajamas I saw the other day, but I can’t bring myself to buy an outfit baby won’t even wear until the end of next year 😂 you’re smart to get the splurges out of the way!

@honey_suckle I honestly don’t even know. I’m just excited for everything! I’m honestly surprised that I’ve been so level headed about shopping, because I already have a wish list going filled with products I have my eye on. I think I’m most excited for crib/bassinet and the stroller system!
  • @lilpotatomama the only thing I have so far for this kid is the onesie I gave DH the morning I found out.  Anyone have luck getting deals on baby gear on Black Friday?
  • @fuzzywombat I was just thinking about Black Friday/cyber Monday!
  • @lilpotatomama I absolutely hate shopping under pressure. I really like buying little things here and there, until I have a collection of unique, local, ethically made items. I can't afford everything to be that way and I end up doing a lot of last minute shopping at target but I feel like if I space out my purchases, I can buy at least a few better, more expensive things here and there, without feeling like I'm blowing all my money. I started Christmas shopping for my 4yo son back in July - I have a paper bag in my closet with various clothes that I found on sale, books, and unique stocking stuffers (like a box of stick-on mustaches etc).  I haven't started purchasing for this baby yet, but I did start a private amazon registry that I've been bookmarking ideas on. I'll probably start buying a few things here and there soon.
  • @lilpotatomama so far i’ve bought a diaper bag. I have had pretty good luck with Black Friday/Cyber Monday/after Xmas sales but since they can differ so much year to year it’s hard to plan till the ads start coming out.

I don’t really need clothes either way but definitely am going to need some gear.

But we we also just decided to not renew our lease and go month to month (at a slightly increased rate) till March-ish and then move that way we don’t have to pay to break the lease. We realized that there is no way we can fit 2 kids and us, plus stuff till next October in our current tiny apartment. So we are probably going to pretty frugal with the spending for a bit. I’m not in a huge hurry to buy stuff cause once again tiny ass apartment that’s already too full and no where to store it.

  • @fuzzywombat @lilpotatomama sales on baby gear is hit or miss during the holidays.  Sadly, the stuff never really goes on major sale.  The best bet off the top of my head would be to do Target's 20% entire website that they usually do and they will have some baby items as doorbusters on Black Friday (if they follow years past). Last year they had 2 car seats, a video monitor, and a pack n play as Door Busters. I'd watch for the ad to drop - if you are a target card holder you usually get a $ off purchase card right before BF in the mail. I'd recommend signing up for the redcard debit - you get all the benefits without being a credit card, it comes out of checking.  Also, the second best site will probably be Amazon.com. Also, I mentioned this in the carseat forum, but I really love using the site slickdeals.net - it's another forum where people post sales/deals/coupon codes and sometimes you can find good deals on things like diapers/wipes, car seats, etc. This would be a good site to utilize especially on Cyber Monday.
  • I’m getting sick of living in the Bay Area. I’m really considering moving. Maybe Colorado. I just hate the idea of researching schools for DD again. It’s just insanely expensive here. For the price of the house we are living in, we could have a 7,000sqft house in Colorado ( not that I want a house that big).
  • I haven't bought anything yet, but this is my second time around so I won't for a awhile. I definitely plan to wait until we start seeing some holiday deals. We will probably start a deals and steals thread around that time too.

I also just if there are things you plan to buy yourself to figure out which one you like to get an idea of what it costs and then it makes it easier to stalk them until you get a good deal. I did this with my city mini GT and saved 50%.

  • I just got a travel system and another car seat so DH and I each have one, and we got her nursery furniture last month- so between my purchases and my mom getting us our bassinet, we have basically everything we really need besides more clothes and bottles, wipes/diapers etc... All the big ticket stuff is accounted for really.

My mom wants to throw me a shower and I'm fine with that, but I'm not expecting super big ticket items (or really anything at all) so I figured it'd be smart to get the bare essentials now. I'm glad I did!

  • @harveyisaboysname I’m in NorCal but not Bay Area and I get it. It’s not quite as bad here as there but it’s working it’s way there.

I work sort of in real estate and get emails from brokers and agents all over the us with listings and it’s occasionally jaw dropping how cheap housing is in other parts of the US. Like 3000 sqft waterfront property for less then or what I’m paying on a tiny apartment in a not so great area.

My DH and I dream of moving out of state (or even better the country) one day. It’s just super hard since we are so close to family right now. (And my DH and dad are bffs)

  • @lilpotatomama I have been having bad dreams regularly. They're more frequent than pre-pregnancy but I'm so sensitive to content that anything can bring it on, honestly.
@BarefootContessa I had no idea I was pregnant. My doctor suggesting that I test was the only way I found out and honestly my pregnancy has been so uneventful that I could see myself still not knowing now at 4 months. In hind-sight, I rationalized all my symptoms and didn't notice as pregnancy-related until I found out. Because of my infertility and menstrual issues, not having a period was not unusual for me and getting pregnant was medically impossible in our minds. A friend of mine didn't realize she was pregnant until she was 6 months because she had false periods every month. Her baby was fine.
My random: I don't have a "feeling" about my baby's sex one way or the other. I really have no idea. But everyone around me thinks my baby is a male. Some women have told me they had a dream of their baby's sex before finding out and the dream was correct, or they just had a feeling and that feeling was right. God must know I like surprised because He's keeping it a secret from me lol

@lilpotatomama:  For my first, I didn't buy anything until 25 weeks.  Then I made like @professormama and bought cute moccasins and a fox blanket I really wanted.  I did make a registry shortly after that, mostly using Lucie's List (if you haven't heard of it, it gives you a basic to-buy list and compares the most popular options), so that I could start stalking Craiglist for the big-ticket items.  Like @cosmo86, I wound up getting most of them for at least 50% off new or "used once or twice."  Then I didn't buy anything again until after my shower, when I cleaned up what was missing.

This time I haven't bought anything. I don't know that I'm in a rush... the first time around buying things in advance made me feel like I Had a Plan and was In Control, but I realized after DD was born that I really didn't NEED anything in advance other than a Pack-n-Play, diapers and wipes, and a few sets of clothes, ha.  (Amazon still delivers after you give birth, as it turns out.)  We also already have all our big-ticket items from DD, so the only thing I'm really thinking about is splurging on a BOB jogger if I can find a good deal on Craigslist.  I did kind of have stroller regret from last time...
  • @mighty_montgomery I didn't realize I was pregnant with DS will I was over 3 months along. I was on a Rx that made my periods sporadic, I had bled for a week when I must have been about 6 or 8 weeks, I had zero symptoms other than throwing up one day, and I was on the pill. But by like....20 weeks it would have been a lot more obvious to me, ha.

@MRDCle:  OMG, this happened to a friend of mine (she was breastfeeding and her period was not back.)  I was secretly kind of jealous, haha.  Basically skipping the first trimester and having a 6-month pregnancy?  Sign me up.

DH actually got on me for testing as early as I did with this one because I hate being pregnant so much.  He was like, "Just wait a couple of weeks, and then your pregnancy'll be shorter."  I was like, IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY, also I want beer if I can have it.

We use Natural Family Planning, which I love because after 8 years it's SO accurate, until I don't love it because... it's so accurate.  I'm not even ignorant for a dang day.

@thesoufflegirl SAME - I got my first positive on 9DPO - insanely sore boobs, nausea, and a rando migraine clued me in. My friend was like "Don't test till your like, at least 14 DPO - it makes it last too long!" Well what if I want BEERS!
ETA: but this pregnancy does feel SO MUCH LONGER already since I did essentially skip my entire first tri with DS.

  • Thanks for the responses on shopping for baby stuff, everyone! This was just another one of the things I felt so unprepared for and now I feel a little better.
  • I can't imagine not knowing I was pregnant! I am hyper aware of my body (thanks generalized anxiety disorder!) and with this pregnancy & with DD I knew freakishly early because I just FELT different, haha. It does make pregnancy feel extra long, though.

  • Just read M19 - yikes.  Thank you all for not doing whatever the hell that was.

Regarding buying stuff, if this is your first and someone is planning to throw you a baby shower, TRY to resist until then!  You might get everything you need, or your circle might be big on just buying a bunch of clothes and blankets, but you don't really know until then.  I managed to buy basically nothing which was good, because I ended up needing basically nothing after my shower.  Get your shopping fix from registering!

    100% committed to A19 now, y'all are perfect here, don't change a thing  <3
  • For all of those asking- This is daycare teacher's first baby. She took a test and it was negative. She had her cycle the whole time, so she had no clue. I'm just so grateful that she and the baby are ok.

Yes, if this is your first, don't feel the need to buy anything until you have a shower! @Piccola1988 is definitely right.

We just made a Facebook post. And I'm so damn nervous. Like my anxiety just went through the roof. Everyone knows now. With our first pregnancy we announced on Facebook on a Sunday and on Tuesday we found out there was no heart beat. So we had to make another post about that. I know likely it won't happen again but the anxiety is still there. This is one of those times I wish I could have a glass of wine! Guess I'll settle for a hot fudge sundae!
