@professormama, it's not a dirty chai, but I made myself hot chocolate this morning since yesterday was a crap day. I agree wholeheartedly with @MRDCle.
Absolutely! I had Caramel Apple Spice today from Starbs.
Guys I'm legit pissed. I found out my insurance declined to cover my Harmony test. Seeing as my last pregnancy resulted in a son that had Trisomy13 I do not understand why they wouldn't cover it. What the heck?
@BarefootContessa can you appeal? Also, I kinda see their point that history of trisomies does not make it any more likely that this one will have a trisomy, in that it’s not an inherited trait. But obviously families with a history will have higher stress levels, which IS associated with negative outcomes and should be enough of a reason to cover.
@lyse01 actually some families do have an inherited genetic malfunction that results in a higher risk of a trisomy occurrence. For this reason, I had genetic testing done in January, which was covered. I guess because I had that they assume that it is not necessary to cover the harmony. Seems strange to me, given it was covered when I had my daughter three years ago and we haven't changed insurance carriers.
@BarefootContessa can you look into the uninsured patient cost with Harmony, or possibly other NIPT options? Allegedly the one I got (Quest's QNatal) is covered by more insurance companies than most - or at least that's what they told me. Mine was fully covered.
@BarefootContessa I work pretty close to lab billing, and it can be a pretty chaotic process. There are so many reasons it could’ve been denied (even accidentally- someone clicked on the wrong code somewhere, etc.), that appealing is nearly always the right way to go. Calling the lab can help out too, since they prefer to get paid and insurance is the most likely way they will- sometimes they will file appeals on your/their behalf.
@professormama I’m out of class, and I promise I focused all morning!
On that note, I finally found out when I’m graduating. December 2021. That last semester is just clinical/student teaching. When I was 16, I thought I’d graduate at 22-23 years old. Whoops 😅 I’m honestly not very upset by this. I’m happy that I have a set date, as long as I keep doing well in school of course. This situation is better than the alternative - I would have graduated 2 years ago with a RN degree, but the field wasn’t for me and I switched paths. So much respect for healthcare professionals, though!
@BarefootContessa, ah, I’m learning something! My work BFF had a DD with trisomy 18, who lived about 8 months, and she was told her next child didn’t have an increased risk. She probably had additional testing done, though.
@lilpotatomama sounds like the timeline for my grad degree - just kept chipping away at it!
@MRDCle and @kangstadt glad y’all got yourselves some treats as well. Definitely a morning for it.
@BarefootContessa damn, I really hope your appeal is successful. Good luck.
@lilpotatomama congrats on having a graduation date!! It’s great that you realized the medical field wasn’t for you and switched plans, better to do that now than get 5 years into a career before you realize you hate it. We have tons of non traditional students at my university who aren’t graduating at 22, they have more challenges, but honestly, they are often better students too! More mature and focused and dedicated. You kick ass!
@professormama Yes. DH's "man cave" is upstairs and I'm at the point where I refuse to even go up there. When we bought the house last year, we were originally going to turn the upstairs into a master suite, and I'm so glad we didn't go that route.
Yep, have the run up and down from the basement studio to the main house and it's killing me. DW asked me if I was okay this morning after I came up, I had to explain that it was just the stairs!
Internet is acting a little better, but memes crash my browser. There are definitely downsides to living in the country.
@professormama yes! I can’t take the stairs at school anymore without my heart racing and gasping for breath. I had to start using the elevator this week.
@professormama I was huffing and puffing taking things out of the dryer this morning. Before I got pregnant I could power walk for an hour around the neighborhood and not break a sweat. I had to sit down and take deep breaths after unloading the damn dryer. I just don’t understand. Baby is the size of a pack of gum, no way it’s moving my insides enough to limit my lung capacity.
Well it happened, I peed myself a little bit. I’m stuck at work until 530 so I have to chill with a little wet spot in my pants. I’ve never gone from not having to pee to not being able to make it 15 feet from the kitchen to the toilet. I never had bladder issues while pregnant with DD or even after having her. I sear this baby is sucking the life out of me. My DH is dying to name the baby Richard and I’m almost considering letting him because it is already being a Dick.
Well im really glad I’m not the only one who is constantly out of breath! I teach two classes back to back. And by the time I walk between the buildings I end up having to sit while I lecture in the second class or I’m too out of breath to talk!
@professormama I am absolutely getting out of breath easily! It's weird because I'm still working out (I'm out of breath but that's pretty normal for a workout), but then I walk up 1 flight of stairs and I can hardly breathe!
If I remember right, because the body has to make more blood it also has to take in more oxygen (to keep the blood oxygenated) and therefore the lungs are actually working a lot harder then normal. You do not have the same capacity as pre pregnancy. It’s also why asthma super sucks while KU. It’s also probably why a lot of people end up needing oxygen during labor. I think a couple pounds of the weight you “are supposed to gain” during pregnancy actually comes from an increased amount of blood.
It goes back to normal afterwards.

@Llamamama I feel your pain on fighting a cold ugh & I’m in NYC agree I think it’s the weather change - wishing you a speedy recovery & lots of sleep (which has been hard for me without drugs!)
add me to the people who can't take the stairs! I work on the 3rd floor and my much younger never been pregnant coworkers just think I am out of shape! I always took the stairs but now its hard to catch me breath and my heart races!

Ok, so I've been drinking Pregnancy Tea the last two days ( partially to help fight off a cold)- like 1 large Mason jar full with the 1 tea bag steeping for quite a while. Long story short- after drinking it this afternoon I started having light contraction feelings, not really cramping and nothing I've experienced before (FTM). They stopped after a few hrs, but totally scared me! I know the tea has Red Rasberry Leaf as a main ingredient and I've read that it can cause mild uterine contractions.... Anyway wondering if anyone has experienced this or used the Rasberry Leaf tea?? I feel like my anxiety will never let me drink that tea again lol
@sunny_native14 I mean, I’d avoid red raspberry leaf for another 15-20 weeks, but I’m reading the same internet as you, and it’s not very definitive. Talk to a Doc or midwife?
As for the cold, I find lemon, ginger, and honey to be helpful.
This was the 3rd morning in a row my son has woken up before 6am (normal would be 6:30-7). He’s not yet 4, and he recently stopped napping. No way that (max) 10 hours of sleep is actually enough for him in a 24 hour period. And I’m soooo tired. I’ve tried my usual of just boring him back to sleep by pretending to be asleep myself and it’s not working. He will just flop around for an hour waiting for my husband’s alarm to go off. WTF
@sunny_native14 It could be the tea, but also could be a coincidence. As far as I know it doesn't start labor but supposed to make contractions stronger when labor does start. I started drinking RRL this week and haven't had any problems yet, but maybe you're more sensitive.
I need to stop looking at my patient portal. I just got a pop-up that I have my OBs reading of the US last week in there. Both babies have abnormal cord insertion (baby A is marginal and baby B is velamentous) so now I'm trying so hard not to cry (more than I already have) and freaking out. I don't want to message them because it's not like they're gonna tell me too much over MyChart and my next OB appointment isn't till 11/6, though I'm meeting with a MFM (mine is on vacay) on 10/29.
@MRDCle I’d call your doctor and ask. That way it will ease your mind instead of a constant worry. FYI I googled velamentous cord insertation and I would want to know what it meant for my pregnancy if it were me.
@mrdcle I'm so sorry you're dealing with this- I don't know anything about cord insertion, but did they at least give you a prognosis on the babies before scheduling your 11/6 appointment?

I ended up messaging them. On top of Google, I searched the term in a couple Mo/Di twins groups I'm in which was reassuring - seems like a guaranteed CS and extra EXTRA monitoring, but I'm hoping the message or call back today to give me a little peace of mind.
