@beccaneu if men experienced pregnancy there would be no babies ever. They wouldn't even last a week through the first trimester, much less giving birth. My husband would just die. He barely survives a head cold.
@beccaneu - If I could make my body convert the fat storage from my belly and butt to feed the baby rather than deal with my insane appetite, I'd do it in a heartbeat. But you're definitely "doing something" and you're doing it all damn day and night. I eat 2 dinners and I wake up hungry. I'm thirsty all the time. Because I'm "doing something" 24 hours a day.
If we had comprehensive, fact-based sex education in this country starting at a young age with appropriate content, our society would be a much better place and our men would be much more sensitive to our needs. I had to school some idiot about ovulation because he thought he didn't need to use condoms and women should really be responsible for birth control because we "know when we ovulate" whereas they have no idea. REALLY, Dude? My understanding of when I ovulate is as good as his. I have no f*cking idea. It's completely out of my control and it just happens when it happens sometime between cycle day 14 and 20, if it happens at all. Even our reproductive endocrinologists - doctors with years upon years of education and practice and residencies - can only control so much. Put on a damn condom and shut up. Of the two sexes, men have a MUCH easier time controlling their ejaculate than we do controlling our ovulation.
@eatinwatermelonseeds they will never, ever get it though. We were up at my SIL's this past weekend for Thanksgiving. SIL and BIL know I'm pregnant. The kids were all outside playing and us adults were just relaxing in the house. Somehow the subject of childbirth came up and SIL and I were discussing our experiences. Both of us had pretty uncomplicated and easy deliveries, but we were talking about the pain, recovery, etc. DH and BIL keep rolling their eyes at each other, and BIL (of all people, because he is always such a great, caring husband and father and all around very empathetic guy) pipes up that obviously the pain must not be that bad because "like you both just said, your deliveries were pretty easy and you both went ahead and did it again 2 years later. And look, Steph just chose to do it again a third time". I'm quite positive its the 3rd baby thing that prompted him to say it. 2 kids seems to be standard in our families and with most people we know. So apparently my desire to have a 3rd automatically means that pregnancy and delivery is a total breeze because why else would I even consider another one.
@mcewen3 - It's because the reward of childbirth far exceeds the pain. That doesn't negate the fact that the pain is there though! Have you seen the videos of men having simulated contractions? They start whining during the first phase of labor when the pains are similar to mild menstrual cramps.
OK I feel like this can't be normal. I am sleeping 18 hours a day. I go to bed at 6 and wake up at 6:30. then after i take my kids to school I sleep for 4 hours straight while my son is at pre-k half a day.
Then once my husband gets home I nap another 2 hours. Wake up then go back to bed at 6.
I don't feel like this can be normal. Even with a cup of coffee I am still sleeping that much.
Anyone have input?

@eatinwatermelonseeds Next appointment is on Halloween. Yeah I should probably call her. All the nurses are new. I just haven't wanted to call and argue with them that no its not normal and plea my case that its not my first baby and that I know this can't be normal. I'll call tomorrow even though I dread it.

Oh, I know. I was a little shocked to hear the words come out of the mouth of a very devoted father and baby-lover for that exact reason. Honestly, my DH does not love the baby phase one bit, but he is excited about having another toddler/preschooler in a few years. And they would both be disappointed if their families weren't as full with children as they are, and are fully aware of what had to happen for said children to appear, so IDK. They just don't think before they speak. I now remember how the convo came up, we were discussing vasectomies. BIL had it done, DH will be soon-ish. Maybe that's why he is all of a sudden so shocked as to why I would go through childbirth again if we claim it to be much worse than the pain of a vasectomy
I have been so winded yesterday and today. I don't know if this is normal or if it's even related to my asthma anymore. My resting heart rate doesn't go below 104. Today, I haven't been able to do anything but lay in bed.

I have asthma too. At my first ob appointment i told them i kept getting winded super easily. They said asthma can become worse in ppregnancy. Find out which inhalers you are approved to use.

@sleepy33 my son goes to bed at 6. He still needs a nap after school but refuses. So i out him to bed earlier. It would seem like its too much sleep for him but any later and he gas a bad day at school everytime abd is super grouchy the rest of the day.
I could probably sleep more than I am if my son wasn't still little.

Geez @psychobutthead how do you even have time to do dinner and bath? We don’t even get home until 5:30. On the other hand, having free time starting at 6 would be awesome lol
@sleepy33 ds gets a bath after dinner at around 5. i start dinner as as soon as ny daughter gets home from school. Sometimes i get it started before its time to get her. But dinner is usually an easy meat to cook, a veggie i steam, and a easy carb like baked potatoes so i can make dinner fast.
But to be honest im not ggetting anything done at home. I try to stay awake and the next thing i know i fall asleep on my couch sitting up.

@psychobutthead have you ever suffered from anxiety or depression? I certainly don't mean to say that's what's going on, but if you read mine and @eatinwatermelonseeds comments today about it, that's how I'm feeling. So beyond exhausted that doing one small task makes me feel like I need a nap. I haven't been able to fully succumb to it since I always have at least one kid at home with me, but I know what is crippling me right now and making it appear that my pregnancy exhaustion is out of control is that my anxiety and stress levels are through the roof and I'm just not coping. I spoke with DH about it tonight, and I've been pretty good at managing my anxiety without meds in the past but I need back up. So we're working on a game plan so he can give me a little more help around the house, but also some daily activities we can do as a family that will force me out of the house to push through this haze. It's not helping me much that we are in a bit of an activity lull for the kids right now. DD1 was in Fall School for figure skating, but that ended last week and the regular season doesn't start until the end of the month. Gymnastics got cancelled this week, so I had no good reason to drag my butt out of the house.
@psychobutthead I have been sooo exhausted lately way more than any other pregnancy. I have some other symptoms too(some increase hair loss and my tongue seems whiter than normal), but my doctor thinks I am probably zinc or iron deficient. I had a bunch of bloodwork yesterday to see and am waiting to get the results back. He said that this time in the pregnancy is when the baby really starts to take on a lot of your nutrients and so deficiencies can start to crop up. I’d definitely make a call and let them now how much sleep you are needing and anything else that seems out of whack.
@psychobutthead I would get checked for anemia! I Love my sleep but that’s at another level.
@expandcontract I am getting winded easily too but it’s unrelated to asthma (I don’t have it). I have a hard time catching my breath when I exert myself even a little. I’m sure my heart rate is higher than normal. I’m just taking it easy. That’s all I can do at this point I think!
I am really thankful that this pregnancy seems to be progressing. I don't want to complain but I need to vent because this all day nausea is getting old. I am barely functioning even with taking unisom and b6 and it is making me so emotional that I can't feel productive. I heard it uaually peaks at 8 weeks so that means that this will get worse?? Yikes...
@mrskoz428 This is brutal! You will be my light at the end of the tunnel when you get through it to the 2nd trimester since you are a bit ahead of me. Does it count as working if I camp out in the bathroom? Maybe I should move my office in there 😂
@mrskoz428 how often are you taking B6? I have a prescription for diclectin which is a form of b6+doxylamine. I take 2 tablets at night, 1 in the morning, 1 at 1pm, and 1 at 5pm (though I usually skip the 1pm and 5pm doses because food also helps me feel better). I believe you can get the same stuff in the States (goes by the name diclegis?) and it's 100% worth it. Unfortunately, in my experience, the nausea and vomitting lasts well into the 3rd trimester.
DD1: June 2014 - VBM4lyfe DD2: October 2016 DC3: coming May 2019
@lappymom2019 I'm on the same boat as you. My insurance won't cover Diclegis so my OB recommended Seabands and ginger drops. She also mentioned another prescription, Reglan, but that makes you drowsy so I couldn't take it during the day. Im just eating a lot of carbs because that seems to be the most effective. Excess weight gain can go to hell. I have bills to pay and a family to take care of, I need to be able to function.
@k2k2tog That is really not encouraging news! I hope that it goes away in the 2nd trimester for all of us.
@expandcontract I am with you on the weight gain. I have tried everything so far, and the only thing to make me even remotely functional ia munching on pretzels all day. We have to do what we have to do.
I took the day off today since my MIL is having surgery. I would have preferred husband be with her but he knows nothing when it comes to medical stuff. Anyways, I'm sitting here in preop, MIL hasn't eaten anything cuz she can't, I'm all nauseous from the smell of rubbing alcohol. As soon as they take her in, I'm running to the cafeteria.
@lappymom2019 sorry I can't be more encouraging. If it helps, it does get easier to manage. But I have never loved certain aspects of being pregnant and I'm kind of glad that this is my last time.
DD1: June 2014 - VBM4lyfe DD2: October 2016 DC3: coming May 2019
@k2k2tog I take 25 mg in the am and 25 mg in the pm. I got really motion sick on my field trip yesterday so I’m sure that’s not helping my nausea today. Eating lots of snacks!
Hospital food sucks! Surgery got pushed back about two hours. I had to eat. My god! Why does hospital food have to suck so much? My fries are cold, chicken is bland and they gave me the tiniest portion. Definitely overpriced.
@mcewen3 that’s the #1 reason I hesitate when saying pregnancy or childbirth was easy for me. Pregnancy was easy compared to what others went through but it’s still hard no matter what! I did not have an easy childbirth but I truly believe there’s no such thing - just varying degrees of difficulty that are all crazy painful (though I have heard from hypnobirthers that some did not feel pain and I think women are amazing).
@expandcontract can you not just get B6 and unisom? It’s the same thing. Mine wasn’t covered either but it was only $10
I have a newfound respect for women with awful morning sickness after being knocked on my butt with this stomach bug. I can’t parent and can barely even human. You ladies who deal with this and still go about your days are truly amazing. Like I already respected you because it sounds hard but temporarily living it has bumped it to a new level.
@lappymom2019 Hate to burst your bubble but I've heard it peaks at 9 weeks. Honestly, last time, I didn't notice a difference really from 7-11 weeks. It all sucked. I'm 9 weeks today so it's mentally helping me at least *think* that it gets better starting tomorrow but really, I felt a bit better starting around 11 weeks and then 12-14 was still icky for lack of a better word but I could function better. After that, as I've mentioned, I'm the happiest pregnant lady ever and seriously love being pregnant! In my mind, I think of the first 14 weeks as first trimester because you're really only 12 weeks along and that's when I finally felt better.
@expandcontract it’s availavle OTC at any pharmacy! Declegis is just them combined - doxylamine (unisom) and pyridoxine (B6). I hope you get some relief!!!
For the first time in a month, I HAVE AN APPETITE!!! Nothing sounds good still and I’m still nauseous, but at least I feel like I should eat something.
Up to week 8, I ate healthy. But then an urgent trip a few provinces away last week to visit a palliative friend and coming home and hubby and I on opposite shift schedules for week 9 has made it so that I've ate pretty crappy for the last 2 weeks. I'm feeling the worst now of the entire 9 weeks! I know hormones are playing into it but I'm sure eating crappy isn't helping. Can't wait to get my energy back again.

Apparently diclegis is a time-release version of unisom+B6. It has worked better for me than just taking unisom and B6.
@lappymom2019 I actually just got put on a crazy diclegis regimen for my all day debilitating nausea: 2 diclegis tabs at bed time, 1 in the morning, and 1 in the afternoon. I think it's making a difference because I've been able to somewhat function today so far.
ALSO How to people feel about making this thread a weekly again? It's already 8 pages long and it's only October 12
@expandcontract it can. My sister hated it because it made her so drowsy and fuzzy. She preferred to feel sick and throw up a couple times a day. It doesn't bother me much, mostly because I feel pretty tired already, I think.
DD1: June 2014 - VBM4lyfe DD2: October 2016 DC3: coming May 2019
I have felt every emotion today. I am just having a terrible, emotional day. I just cried over some dumb shit feeling really sorry for myself. This is going to be a long nine months. I already have bad mood swings, pregnancy is making it so much harder to manage. 😭
