So. I'm in another pregnancy forum, but it's on a different app and I hate the way it's set up so I am mostly just here unless I'm bored. Some girl posted that she heard her baby's heart beat on Doppler at 6 weeks. I suggested she count the rate herself, because the monitor isn't accurate and she was probably just hearing her own heart beat. I explained that for many at 6 weeks there isn't even a heartbeat yet. She said a nurse did it for her (so it HAS to be right, right? 🙄). I asked if she specialized in OB and she said she specializes in peds. I only learned how to find a vein on a Doppler in nursing school, not a fetal heart rate on a tiny ball of cells likely still below the pubic bone. I was very nice to her but she flipped out on me and told me I was a downer and deleted the post. Maybe I should've just kept it to myself instead of educating her? But I was definitely one of the nicer posts. I really hate confrontation and fighting with people.
@eatinwatermelonseeds I really don’t like when people are misinformed so I would have done the same as you. At my u/s at 5w6d we saw and measured the heartbeat but did not listen - which seems to be pretty common based on what I was reading about other u/s around 6 weeks.
We didn't even see a fetal pole yet at what should've been 6w. I'm sure it varies. But dopplers aren't meant to be used that early. I use mine frequently anyway 😂 but I have yet to hear anything but my own heart rate and I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow.
I knew it was possible I wouldn't, but I was still a mess until my next ultrasound. And even at it. The tech did abd first (at 7w) and only saw a gestational sac. She didn't tell me that, but I saw it as I was going to pee before the transvaginal. Kept telling myself that was normal, I was early, but was still very scared. Then she did the transvaginal and wouldn't let me see. She took SUCH a long time that I just started bawling. She still didn't show me anything as I sat there silently crying uncontrollably (yay hormones 😂) but then finally went "okay!" And showed me the baby and let me see the little heart flicker. She measured it, but I didn't get to hear it.

Did some yard work Saturday while DD puttered around outside. Felt like such a boss pruning trees. And then I woke up today feeling SO sore. You’d think I had run a marathon or something. Embarrassingly out of shape
Today was so busy I am exhausted! Ds1 had hockey practice at 8 am, then we walked the dog 2 miles, then grocery shopped at 2 stores with 2 kids, followed by soccer practice, and then I cooked turkey dinner (just did a breast though) for thanksgiving , complete with homemade soda bread and apple crisp. If course now it’s 8pm and I can barely keep my eyes open. I miss coffee...

So for someone worried about gestational diabetes I'm terrible today about staying away from carbs.

@psychobutthead I was keto for a while before pregnancy and I did, but I haven't been. I've been thinking about doing a low carb diet-- obviously way more than keto, but something to control my weight gain. It's insane.
I was trying to lose weight before but the macros fb group i belong to i swear is ran by idiots. They gave me my macro and calorie count that they calculated and told me eat 1800 a day to lose. I just used a website to do it just not and it told me that is my maintenance amount! No wonder ai didn't lose weight before! So I took the 1800 and added 300.
Hopefully I don't blow the hell up like with my other 2 kids. Although I'm already fat.

@psychobutthead I really need to get my shit together diet and exercise wise. I do have my fitness pal but haven't used it in a while. I really feel like I'm in a place where I could lose some weight and baby would still grow perfectly. I'm almost the weight I was the day I gave birth to my son. It's depressing.

The night before I was induced i weighed 199. I freaking weigh like 182 right now.
I really dont want to gain much weight first trimester but its so hard. I was eating at 1800 but it was making me binge eat so i upped my calories on mfp. You should add me! We can keep each other accountable.

@psychobutthead fellow gd lady here too. I got the go ahead from my OB to start keto again, just waiting to have enough energy to do it right. I’ve been eating like crap and feel horrible. I use mfp to track macros too.
@psychobutthead I'm afraid to look again but the last I checked I'd gained like 5lbs already 😭 I don't know how, I'm so sick all the time. But when I'm not, I'm eating like crap because nothing else sounds good. I can't get into my fitness pal for some reason 😭 I'm going to work on it tomorrow and then I can add you 😆
@thebobloblaw I have wanted to do a modified keto but I'm having horrible meat, egg, and dairy aversions. I've tried eggs twice and threw up both times. Which makes keto very difficult

@DuchessOfCambridge I’m only a FTM so I don’t have the stretched uterus, but seriously, I have a bump! It’s different than my other “bumps” that would go away in the morning. It’s starting to stay! 😂 My DH keeps telling me to stop pushing out, and I’m not!
Why am I SITB?! Anyway, I believe you! Each woman’s body is different. Btw, STM+ uteruses (uterii?) shrink back to normal 6-8 weeks after delivering ☺️ There is, of course, other anatomical stuff going on so while I know at 6w3d my bump is not baby, I know it’s more than bloat because it’s firm. Though, my after dinner bump was TOTALLY a 5 month food baby. A bit aggressive.
@peachy13 one of my least favorite things after delivery was constantly feeling like people were checking out my stomach to see if it had gone back to normal. It made me really really sad, and they definitely weren’t discreet. My favorite people in the whole world are a stranger and an acquaintance who told me I looked like I had never had a baby 😂 everyone else just stared and did not provide compliments or try to make me feel good.
Yes... why was this the case? After both my SILs had their babies, I was all up their butts telling them how great they looked each time I saw them. I was being honest too... they looked awesome days, weeks, months after giving birth. It would be the first thing I'd say to them. Then flip to me post baby, and there's absolutely nothing. They weren't the only ones either. It really started to annoy me after a while because I got in the mindset like, if no one is complimenting me, then clearly I don't look that great... but then an awesome random stranger would give you a flattering compliment and it would all be better. I'm generally not that self-conscious and insecure, but there is just so much pressure out there to look like you never had a baby in a very unrealistic timeline.

@thebobloblaw your OB approved Keto?! last pregnancy I tried to keep my carbs pretty low so I wasn't taking so much insulin and my endo told me I was starving my baby, and this pregnancy she told me to make sure i'm eating at least 30 carbs a meal which I think is kind of ridiculous. Insulin makes me gain SO much weight I think i've already gained like 10lbs i'm afraid to get on a scale. I'm definitely going to ask my OB's opinion next time I see him.

Uh, pretty sure the GD diet is fairly keto-oriented, low carb... I'd be way more likely to listen to the OB
@troystory17 my GD diet really wasn’t that much different than keto. You do have to increase your carb intake when pregnant on keto though. my body couldn’t process grains or starches anyways so all my carbs came from fruit and dairy. Keto will actually probably increase my calorie intake and starve me and baby less.
Ohh and eta that I didn’t know before I did keto that your body will turn protein into carbs if you overload on it. Last time I ate so much protein, so I hope this also helps keep my sugars down. Probably should get clarification from dietician on that info though.
@thebobloblaw yeah I’m definitely going to ask my OB I think it’s ridiculous she wants me to be eating that many carbs when they shoot my blood sugar through the roof. I don’t know if I see my OB going against my endocrinologist though 😬
@thebobloblaw@troystory17 I say get your carbs from low sugar fruits and veggies. The amount of carbs and the suggested meal plan when I had GD I now know was a freaking joke. They basically wanted me to have bread or rice at every meal. I wish they understood you don't have to load up on starchy carbs to feel full. Its crazy.
