Went in at 6w3d (based on my LMP) for a dating US and baby measured 6w2d so pretty spot on!!! Doctor said our little has a nice, strong heartbeat but he/she wasn’t in the best position so he couldn’t get a heart rate. Seeing it was the best feeling ever, though, and such a relief to calm my anxious mind.
Due May 17, 2019!

@notsoblissylissy we get to hear the heartbeat then (I’ll actually be 13 weeks then) but no ultrasound. I’m super disappointed. It also makes me nervous. So, if I’m carrying multiples, I don’t find out until I’m over half way?!? Doesn’t make sense!
Not sure where to post this since we don't have a betas thread going but....
Today I'm 14dp5dt (19 dpo) and my beta level is 1200! That's a good, strong number so I'm excited I go in for a repeat blood draw on Saturday and then I schedule my ultrasound for 2 weeks from Monday (October 15th). Feels like such a long time to wait but there you go. At least everything is good and healthy so far!
Just had my ultrasound/first appt! Baby was measuring right on target (7W5D) according to my ovulation date (not LMP). My new Ob was great - she is pregnant too, due in February. :
@journey721 is that genetic testing? We were given the option but our insurance doesn’t cover it and it’s $8,000-10,000 out of pocket, which we don’t have.
Just found out we won’t be getting our first ultrasound until the anatomy scan at 20 weeks! 😭😭😭 Is it Christmas yet?
But whyyyyy?!! That would drive me insane!
@wishiwaspreggo Can we make a deal that when you make it to 12 weeks you'll change your username to something like "ImPreggo?" Basically the opposite of what it is now?
@mrskoz428 does having asthma or depression put you at high risk? Because I have that and as far as I know, I was NOT high risk last pregnancy and still got the U/S at 8 weeks or whatever it was.
@mrskoz428 i was 24 with my first with zero complications and the 12 week scan is just an ultrasound. It’s not 8-10k. And I’ve never heard of insurance not covering it.
@expandcontract apparently not. I find it weird that I’m not getting one at 12-13 weeks for dating purposes. I’m 8 weeks tomorrow and already had my first appointment. My next one is November 2 and I’ll be 13 weeks that day. I was told I’ll get to hear the heart bear, but that’s it.
@journey721 I am also 24 and have zero risk, as well. I am only scheduled to see my CNM at my 13 week appointment. Not sure. I may message and clarify but I’m pretty certain I’m out of luck until 20 weeks.
And genetic testing was offered separately trough the genetic department, which would allow an ultrasound but isn’t covered by insurance.
@mrskoz428 That is very weird. This is my 4th pregnancy, never had any complications, am low risk, and ALWAYS had a 8 week dating scan and 20 week anatomy scan. I'd look into this.
Thank you all! I thought it was weird but I don’t know what to expect. FTM here.
I know lots of practices that don’t do dating ultrasounds, but most (unless you decline) do the NT scan- this is separate from genetic testing. It is looking at the thickness of the neck for any abnormalities that may indicate downsyndrome.
@mrskoz428 what everyone said. Standard care at my hospital is dating ultrasound at 8 weeks, NT at 11-13 weeks, anatomy scan at 18-20 weeks. I am in my late 20s and low risk. I have heard of midwives not doing any ultrasound except the anatomy scan but I don’t know if that’s across the board. If you want the NT scan (which is fairly standard and covered by insurance, including for low risk women), then I think you should push for it. Double check your insurance but I would be shocked if it isn’t covered.
@mrskoz428, exactly what @DuchessOfCambridge said. I was low risk in my last 2 pregnancies as well, but the standard US provided and paid for by insurance were at 8 weeks, 11-13 weeks (part of the 2nd tri screen) and 18-20 week anatomy scan.
I’m in my late 20s and low risk. I’m using the same midwife from when i gave birth 4 years ago. They do the 8 week dating ultrasound, the 10-12 week NT ultrasound, 20 week gender ultrasound
My last pregnancy routine ultrasounds weren’t covered by tricare (military insurance) so I didn’t get one until 26 ish weeks and I think that was only because I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes later in pregnancy. This was over 5 years ago and I am now considered AMA so will have to see what’s covered.
@bpietronicco tricare has made some changes. Still will depend if you are standard or prime but they cover more ultrasounds but wont tell you gender. Thankfully near most bases there are plenty of places that will for 30-60$.
@bumbly_b that’s good to know! We are prime but referred our to an OB as they do not have one on base. We have been seeing an RE as we went through IVF so been glad to get weekly ultrasounds. I graduate to my OB on oct 16 so curious to see what will be covered going forward.
@mrskoz428 I agree with @DuchessOfCambridge -- my other thought is maybe you can sweet talk them into giving you a peek if they have one of those handheld u/s machine thingies. It's not an official one, but it does the job. That's how I foumd out I was having a girl last time.
I have a ultrasound five weeks 6 days yesterday I was told they can see the heart beat but couldn't hear it or rate it is that normal?
Thanks for posting here. That's very normal. My OB won't even schedule my first visit until after 8 weeks because there isn't much to see and people freak out about it. I'm anxiously waiting.
