Re: September 2018 IVF ER

  • @blackhottamales - I have zero patience which is why I'm making myself crazy lol... Luckily things are busy at work so that'll take my mind off things in the meantime.

Speaking of being *that* person, this might make y'all laugh. I'm part of an INVOcell support forum and have been chatting with some women who've gone through my clinic. One of them told me she called our nurse and demanded an earlier beta test. She was promptly shut down. I mean I get it, waiting this long for our test results is annoying, but at the same time is a few days *really* going to make a huge difference? Then we'd just be impatiently waiting for the next beta anyway. There's a lot of painful waiting from start to finish. Just gotta get used to it and try to distract yourself.

It was not fun to do 3 injections last night but I got through it. I plunged the antagonist into an empty menopur bottle so I could use whatever gauge needle I wanted to :D (small ways to control something)  U/s this morning showed 18 follies went from 9s and 10s on Friday to 14s, 15s, and 16s. Will stim and Ganirelix (thought it was Cetrotide before) again tonight to go back for another u/s in the morning. RE says he will know for sure then whether I will do ER Thursday or Friday (it's looking like I might be ready to go Thursday though), and I'll pick up Lupron trigger after the appointment. I also got put back on Levothyroxine because my TSH levels went down a lot med free for that 5 months, but still not optimal.

I didn't even mention E2 labs this morning and decided that my RE has my health in mind with every decision that he makes. I choose to trust him and just go with the flow. All of my energy is focused on self care and distraction right now.

  • @blackhottamales - I was feeling so chill about the PGS testing, but then....

This is always how it is for me. The first half of the wait, I'm super, super cool. Then, the closer I get to the end, the more antsy. I'm still pretty cool about the PGS results, to be honest, but I think this weekend I am going to be a hot mess. I can feel the anxiety starting, like deep down.

I think I might be more "that person" than you. When AF started, I called the clinic to report, and then talked to them about my plans for November. We are going on vacation for a bit in October though, so to be fair to me, I will need to plan ahead, just to make sure I'll have what I need when my October AF starts.

We are super broke, and part of me is like: "Vacation, so wasteful!" But another part of me was like: "If all of these embryos are abnormal, the only thing worse than being totally broke and having failed a round of IVF is being broke, having failed a round of IVF, and not taking any time off."

@wishiwaspreggo - oh man, an earlier beta? I thought POAS was bad enough!

For me, I found with the post-transfer TWW, I was a total rollercoaster. Sometimes, I'd really want to POAS, and other times, I was just too scared, like almost paralyzed. I had zero desire to find out if it had worked or not - I just wanted to keep on pretending that it had worked, and like, calculating my due date.
  • @funkykey - I'm a huge proponent of taking vacations. They work wonders. It gives you something to look forward to no matter what and it provides a much-needed distraction. Plus unplugging and just *enjoying* life without worries, even for just a short time, gives your mental health a boost. We have a trip planned to Disney World in November and it gave me something to look forward to regardless of the outcome of my cycle. And trust me, we're broke too. But this is the last trip we're going to take until next summer.

I'm definitely a POAS addict. But I understand why others are reluctant to test. It's just such a mind effer, being on progesterone like this because it causes *tons* of pregnancy symptoms.

Anyway, I wish you peace as you continue your TWW. Maybe spend your weekend researching your upcoming vacation? I love doing that! If I can swing it I want to celebrate my 40th birthday by going to Oktoberfest in Germany. I've been researching it periodically and day dreaming. It's not for another 4 years, of course, but it's so fun to look at pictures and imagine being there.
  • @riathewolf So glad you have two excellent blasts frozen and I hope you get more tomorrow! I am so sorry you are going through that terrible pain from constipation. Ugh! Keep resting and feel better soon.
  • @riathewolf - wow, I'm so sorry about your ER visits and constipation issues. That sounds really miserable :\ I get grumpy when I'm stopped up for a day or two so I couldn't imagine! But hooray for the good news of 2 AA blasts!! That's excellent! I hope some of the other 5 come around for you :)
  • @riathewolf Sending you hugs and healing thoughts!

  • @riathewolf wow.  you've had quite a journey, i hope you are able to rest after all of this.  Congrats on your 2 blasts, and Fx for the next 5.

    @zamora_spin Yay! 15 is awesome.

@suzycupcake GL over the next couple days!
  • @funkykey Yes! So excited for you!
  • @zamora_spin yay! Congrats on your eggs! Can’t wait to hear your report!

    @funkykey what fantastic news!

@blackhottamales lol tell me about it! It couldn’t all just go smooth right? That would have been too easy xD.
  • Well we are already down to 10 - 10 mature. My last follie check showed 10 around 2cm on average so I’m guessing those were the mature ones (the others werent far behind). This is good news but it’s also hard to see them drop off so fast, we were expecting about 80% mature, and they’ve told me to expect 75% fert.
  • @zamora_spin - I know it can be hard to get that news, but don't lose hope! We had fewer retrieved this time than last time, and fewer fertilized, but the exact same number of blasts. The early steps/results don't always determine what the outcome will be!
  • @funkykey wow!! amazing! i'm so excited for you!

@zamora_spin 10 mature is great--are you doing icsi?

@wishiwaspreggo Ok great — I was hoping I could quit with the gatorade soon! GL with your beta tomorrow (And I just saw your spoiler - not sure how I missed it before! Congrats!!)

@suzycupcake Did you find out if your ER is tomorrow or Friday?

@funkykey WOOHOO!!! Congrats on your 3 PGS normal blasts!

@riathewolf So sorry to hear about your emergency room visits! And congrats on your 2 AA blasts!! Did you find out if the other 5 made it yet?

@zamora_spin  Congrats on a successful ER! It is always tough to see a drop off, but 10 is still a great number to work with!

AFM - Embryo transfer went well on Monday! Transferred one beautiful expanding blast. They didn't tell me what the rating was, but they gave me a photo and it looks like it could be a 4AA. They froze three more on day 5, and were keeping an eye on the rest for an additional day. I found out on day 6 that none of the other ones seemed to be developing any further, which was kind of a bummer. Only ending up with 4 blasts was a big drop off from the 17 we had fertilized. I was hoping for a few more, but I am of course happy having any at all! Did anyone get a full report from the lab on their embryos? I wasn't sure if that was something I should ask for. They really just gave me basic information over the phone, but I would like more detailed info on how each embryo progressed and when they arrested.

Pretty much since my ET I've been having cramping pretty regularly, but I'm trying not to symptom spot too much because I know that it's impossible to determine whether it's from the progesterone injections or the start of implantation. Does anyone know if it's possible to get AF while on progesterone injections? My cramping is identical to my AF cramps so I'm pretty terrified she's going to come any minute now, but my Beta isn't until next Thurs. I did a test POAS yesterday to see if there was any HCG left in my system from the trigger, and it was negative. I'm really torn on whether to POAS before beta or not!

  • @Bonniebonsall ER is tomorrow morning. Yea you can ask for the embryologist's report. Congrats on your 4 and yay for FET!! Cramping is a great sign since the embryo was put in there in the implantation window. Oh man, I totes get the conflict of poas/not. Hugs.

@funkykey Congrats on great PGS results!

  • @Bonniebonsall congrats on transfer! sounds awesome. i read someone else's comment about POAS before beta and they made a good point - if your early hpt is negative will you be able to force yourself to keep giving the progesterone shots?  i hadn't thought of that caveat before!

@zamora_spin i can imagine the dropoff feels like a let down but 10 mature is awesome!

@riathewolf you have been through so much! i hope you're feeling better

  • @suzycupcake Thank you! And good luck tomorrow!!

@wishing-and-hoping Great point! I still have a ton of cheapie wondfo tests from when I was TTC naturally, so I think I’m going to have to toss them in a trashcan far far away in order to prevent myself from POAS before beta! Otherwise I’m not to be trusted.
  • @zamora_spin - That's great news!!! When do you get your next report?

@suzycupcake - Today's the day!!!!!!! Good luck with egg retrieval!!!!!

@wishiwaspreggo I got the impression from the embryologist that I will get at minimum a day 3 report, which should be Saturday, and then day 5 which will be Monday. They said they let embryos go to day 7 in some cases so by mid-next week we should know what was able to be biopsied and frozen.
  • @zamora_spin wonderful news!!! (and better odds than if you had the 80% mature and then 75% fertilize) That's nice you get updates.  We didn't have any news until 6 days after with the results.  I didn't even think to ask the rating of them, i'm sure i could ask now but I'm so close to the PGS results I would rather just wait.  I'm sorry you are still feeling so bloated.  I was also told lots of gatorade and protein.  I took a light laxative as well to keep things moving.

    @suzycupcake GL today!
  • Hey sorry I forgot to update over here. ER was yesterday. They got 16 eggs, 14 were mature and got ICSId. 11 fertilized. We will get a 5 day report. I'm in a lot of pain today. My husband is driving to the RE's office to pick up a couple of tablets of something stronger because the Tylenol just aint cutting it.

  • @suzycupcake I hope you’re feeling ok today. I hope the time passes quick for you!

Guys - got our day 3 update - we still have 10 embryos! I’m surprised and hoping we have a good crop also make it to the big day 5!
  • Ok - haven’t had a lot of pain - so far the worst pain day was Friday after Wednesday retrieval. But today my ovaries are trying to kill me. Really excruciating. I’m not really bloated anymore, but for some reason the pain is terrible. Advil and Tylenol with codeine and a heating pad is helping some but ouch. I’ve emailed my clinic but doubt they’ll see it today. I really need to do like, normal adult things starting tomorrow, like work!  :#
  • I have been reading and keeping up best I can between work and IVF process. Yesterday was our FET and our embryo wasn’t all the way a blastocyst but we chose to transfer one and wait to freeze the other (we started with 11 eggs, 4 fertilized initially and now are down to two maturing).

We got the call that the one in the lab is not a blastocyst so i sure hope the one inside is too. We are in our 2ww and will find out if we have a BFP. Light cramping and some fatigue. Time will tell.

Thanks for constantly sharing your experiences.
  • @mamakrystal34 Congrats on being PASP! When is your beta date?
  • @zamora_spin I’m so sorry to hear you’re still in so much pain :( I hope your RE can maybe send you something stronger. Not sure what you do for work but I hope you can at least be somewhat comfortable so you can get your job done. I definitely know how you feel :/ it’s hard to focus when you’re not feeling well.
  • @zamora_spin 7 embryos!! that's amazing! and the fact that the other 3 are still growing is incredible.

We haven't decided about team green or finding out , before the whole IF journey i was always team finding out--but now I kinda want it to be a surprise.  But, then i love those parties where you find out the sex of the baby.  They are so cute.
  • @blackhottamales - that's absolutely wonderful!!! 6 embryos is fantastic :) And October 30th isn't far at all. So excited for you! Congrats!

@zamora_spin - Wow, you have a great report too! I'm so happy to see the excellent news from you ladies. Have you found out the PGS results yet or are you still waiting for that?

@suzycupcake is supposed to get her 5-day results, too. Hoping for more awesome news :D

@wishiwaspreggo So we counted wrong. ER was Thursday so Tuesday will be day 5  :#

@blackhottamales Congrats to you dear! That's an awesome report. It looks like you and I might have the same FET date. Well if AF decides to be a doll ;) I totally get not wanting to know the sex of your embies. What is the reason for you?

For me, I told them it's because after all of the years of heartache, things my body has been through, cost, etc., if I'm so lucky to get a baby, I want pregnancy to be as normal as possible. Happy to be surprised and find out later like the majority of the rest of people. I fantasize about making cupcakes for my husband and we will sit to eat them, just the two of us. He loves icing so much so I had this idea that I'd put pink or blue on the inside of it so that when he eats it, it will be a fun surprise.

Eta; I also don't want to get attached in that manner just in case it doesn't work. For me, it would be a whole new level of hurt.

  • @wishiwaspreggo @suzycupcake The lab won't send out the biopsies for PGS until later this week (once the other three either make to biopsy or stop growing), and I've been told to expect 7-14 day turn around time on the PGS results, so it will be a while longer before we have those.

@suzycupcake Good luck tomorrow, I hope you get good news.
  • @zamora_spin - Ah, I'm sorry you have to wait so long but it's very promising if you have 7 blasts that made it to 5-day! I hope the other three caught up.

@suzycupcake - Okay, TODAY is the day :) looking forward to hearing about your 5-day report! Remind me, are you doing PGS testing too?

How's everyone else doing? This thread has been kinda quiet!
