Re: Question Thread

  • @lexidawg H, DS, and I will all be current on the TDAP vaccine since we will be around the baby daily. Other than that, we will just stress handwashing and staying away if anyone feels sick.
My feeling is that I can not control every single person who holds or breathes in the vacinity of the baby, so there is no sense in drawing a line in the sand for certain people. I plan to BF again and that is a big help in boosting baby’s immune system.

Last time, last time we definitely asked our parents (who were going to be staying with us and having significant time with baby) to get a TDAP.  We would have asked for a flu shot too except she was a May baby, so not exactly relevant.

This time it’s within 5 years so I’m not sure whether MH/grandparents need TDAP again. I’ll ask my OB. Eta: I think they are recommending  a TDAP during every pregnancy for mom.

I would like flu shots all around this year, at minimum MH, me, big sis, and any grandparents staying with us. For other visitors, just good hand hygiene and stay away if sick.
  • I'll definitely be doing both TDAP and flu shot, and I'll have my son get a flu shot (even though we never did last year...oops). DH never gets the flu shot, and he's honestly never sick. My MIL works in daycare, so she may already get it? Not sure. My dad is paranoid and always does, no idea about FIL. But my mom can't have the flu shot. Anytime she has gotten it in the past she's had very negative reactions to it, and she's super healthy/rarely sick like DH. So needless to say, I won't be pushing the flu shot, and no grandparents will be around enough for me to really push the TDAP either honestly. I can't even say that I made every single person wash their hands with DS when he was a baby. Some did in the beginning without being asked, or at least used hand sanitizer, but I never pushed it too much. This time, I feel like if baby is going to get sick it'd most likely be from DS because of daycare, so I'm probably not going to push too much again anyways. We're pretty chill about things...

We're still kind of wobbling on whether or not we'll make it anywhere for Christmas, and the flu shot is a huge reason why. I'm mostly okay trusting folks on the TDAP, because the chances of pertussis are pretty slim anyway and it's only a few hours, but the flu is just too prevalent to take a chance on. His family gathering is enormous and I don't see any way to enforce it, and since she'll probably be less than a month old (due date 12/5)... yeah. And even if everybody did somehow magically get the vaccine, I foresee people still showing up with any number of minor illnesses that they might pause before bringing into our home, because baby or no baby, who wants to miss a family Christmas for a cold? My family's much smaller and used to dealing with immune issues in our midst (people did periodically skip Christmas for minor respiratory infections because I had cousins with serious immune deficiencies), but they're also a 3 hour drive away, so.... we'll see.

Anybody who wants to see us at home, though, will be fully vaxxed and snuffle free. That's not even a question.

  • Maybe it's to late in the game to ask this, buuttttt. Is anyone due 12/17-12/23? I ask because I'm due 12/18 and i can't recall ever seeing a weekly checkin for those edd.
  • @lavenderlisa yes, we do have people due all throughout the month, but I don't think I've seen a check-in for that date range in...a long time. You can always start it yourself and maybe others will post in it! I think some people don't like to personally start new threads, so maybe it's just been overlooked?

Lol im a scaredy cat. I thought about it but I didn't want anyone to be like "hey dummy, no one is due then but you". I mean that probably wouldn't happen but my anxiety tells me other wise. I'm glad i wasnt having prego brain and just overlooking the thread if it was there @CecilB93
  • @snugglyduckling25 ok ill def join in if you start it since I know there is atleast me and you!
  • @lavenderlisa @snugglyduckling25 I'm in that group too but too chicken and usually too tired to think of a witty GTKY question to start threads..  :)
Sometimes (usually) I steal a GTKY from other EDD check-ins...I suck at coming up with questions lol. And if you take from a different EDD group, you know people won't be seeing the same GTKY twice! ;)

  • @mcgeeva yep!  I'm at 26+ and barely got my ring off this weekend.  I'm not taking anymore chances!:)
  • Ugh unreal @ScootsMcG! I rarely wear my engagement ring but like to wear a band but shit looks like that will be ending. My other hand I have a middle ring finger on a smaller one. Redic and I can’t tthink of what I ate that was salty besides chili I made but didn’t add much oatmeal and an apple er

  • @mcgeeva As the professionals say:  It's just the hormones!:)  If you want they do have some cheap options out there.  With my first, I bought a larger size tungsten carbide ring (just a band) for about $10 on ebay..they even engraved it:)  It always made me feel better that I had some sort of ring on.  However, now on baby number 4 and have no idea where the "pregnancy ring" is, so I'm feeling a little naked and giant fingered!  I thought those silicone ones look pretty cool too (and you can actually get them off if your fingers keep expanding), and was thinking of ordering one if I can't find my other one.
  • @mcgeeva yep, mine haven’t fit for a long time. They were starting to get tight before I got pregnant, so they had to go quickly. I have a cz ring that I bought the last time I was pregnant that found this weekend I’ve been wearing. I have also looked into the silicone bands, I just need to figure out what size I need.
  • @ScootsMcG ha I love those two but don’t own. I always wonder if I will look like a fake me out gym rat :)

  • +1 for finger swelling.  I have 2 bands and my ring, and I can't wear them all anymore. Just my engagement ring.
  • @mcgeeva Could the humidity be a factor?
  • @katy0990 wasn't hot in my house and freezing at work. so no clue.

  • @mcgeeva I took mine off a while ago as soon as they started to get tight. It was probably to do with the humidity where I live but I didn’t want to take any chances. I’m quite attached to my rings and I live in fear of having to get them cut off!

  • @mcgeeva I love that idea... I can just say oh yeah, I got it for the gym.... instead of... my pregnant lady fingers are turning into sausages!😁
  • @mcgeeva Mine hasn't fit for like a month. But I potentially have preeclampsia (testing borderline positive for it.) so lots 'o swelling.
  • @mamajudec2018 Did your urine results come back? Have you talked to your doctor?
  • @mamajudec2018 I’m sorry to hear that! At least you have an explanation now, but not exactly what you wanted. How do you feel emotionally about everything? Please keep us posted about your appointment!
  • @mamajudec2018 how is your facial numbness?

@mamajudec2018 I am sorry about the diagnosis. I hope you and your doc can come up with a good plan!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @mamajudec2018. That would be extremely frustrating. Good luck at your appointment! I hope you and your daughter are able to come up with a good plan that you feel comfortable with.
  • @mamajudec2018 yeah you would think they would have a good action plan. So borderline means protein in urine and high bp, swelling etc. Do you see spots? I only ask because I have already been down this road before. Except when mine hit I went straight to delivery.

  • @katy0990 Thank you! Me too! I'll keep you posted!

@mcgeeva I do see spots but it's hard to tell if that's from Gestational Diabetes, like when my sugar gets low, or from potentially pre-eclampsia. I also have had a headache four days in a row now which I'm sure is from high BP. My doctor is so chill that I think she is just hesitant to diagnose anything. And the high BP is new so maybe if that becomes more consistent then she will be more concerned.
  • @mamajudec2018 What are you bp numbers? Are you swelling?

  • @mamajudec2018 so sorry to hear your results are not looking that great. Hopefully you’ll still get some sort of plan at the next appointment.
  • @mamajudec2018 Oh wow, sorry you've been through so much with the swelling, GD and now borderline preeclampsia. It worries me a little bit to hear you say your doctor is so chill - does she know you've had a headache for four days? Do you have an at home blood pressure monitor? They sell them at CVS and stuff, if not. May be a good idea. Sending good thoughts your way.
  • @maureenmce yeah i agree that doesn't make any sense bc pre-e is known for going south over night. This is when you have  to push for answers vs waiting.

  • @mcgeeva is there another doctor in the practice you could get a second opinion from?
