@CecilB93 feel better! Robitussin is what I took early on in pregnancy. I also think dayquil ot nyquil are safe. My OB told me i could take one but avoid the other, can't remember which is which! Not helpful, sorry.
Happy Sunday, ladies! A little bummed that we already have to go back to work tomorrow...
Anyhow, my question (I searched the boards and found only two mentions?) is whether anyone has any experience with (or has even heard much about) the Newton wovenaire mattress. It strikes me as somewhat gimmicky and totally playing on parents' fears (https://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2016/08/don_t_believe_what_mattress_companies_tell_you_about_sids_believe_the_science.html) yet I'm still interested in it. They do offer a 100 day free trial (when purchased direct on their web site - supposedly from due date provided with warranty registration?) and they currently have a website promo going (maybe they have these often - I just recently got on their mailing list so don't know), but I can only seem to find sponsored reviews/write ups on it, and just wanted to see if anyone else had thoughts on it (or other "breathable" mattresses).
Thanks!

@morgantu I would register for a variety of sizes and brands, it’s always nice to have a stash of diapers and getting different ones will help you figure out what works/you like. As far as what you should have when coming home I agree a box of NB and a box of size 1, unopened. My LO is measuring big also, but I plan on having both sizes on hands DS1 was 9lbs 5oz and did skip NB diapers, so it’s possible, which is why I just won’t open them until we get home.
@CecilB93 what a pain! I’m sorry you’re feeling so bad, hopefully you can get an answer quickly tomorrow on what you can take.
@artemis618 I haven't heard of that mattress but actually just found this thread to ask a SIDS question so I'm right there with you.
My question is this: you know how you aren't supposed to use crib bumpers due to suffocation risk? Like the baby can roll over and end up with its mouth pressed against the bumper? My bassinet has totally solid sides. Wouldn't it pose the same risk? Do you just have to be absolutely sure the baby is out of the bassinet and into a different sleeping arrangement by the time it can roll?
@kadeephd I’m guessing it’s not a concern because it takes several months for them to really learn to roll, and by that time they will be pulling shenanigans like this in the bassinet and well out of it as a result.
(I know I’ve posted this photo before but it’s just my favorite.)

@kadeephd yes to what @PensiveCrayon said. Plus when they're more mobile they can dislodge the bumpers and get tangled in them and strangle themselves, or step on them and crawl out. I believe you are supposed to move baby out of bassinet when they begin to roll.
@PensiveCrayon i love that basinet! I call those things a "moses basket" and I have a huge one that I'm considering using as a downstairs sleep solution!
@Jens_Hoes@PensiveCrayon OK, thanks. We'll be sure to have another sleeping arrangement on hand so we can transition to that when baby starts plotting his/her escape like @PensiveCrayon's baby in the photo.
@kadeephd I had a bassinet but also a pack n play. I used the bassinet attachment in the beginning, but once my daughter was too big for her bassinet in the bedroom, I put her in the bottom of the pnp. She still uses the pnp at my moms to nap, the weight and size limits for the bottom of the pnp are much higher. So you can always use that until you are ready to move baby into their own room.
But H says he’s going to magically get into woodworking and build it in the 4 months after baby’s arrival that I want to do the bed shuffle. We shall see!

I love that bed! The boys slept in my bed last night and ds2 fell out. He’s fine but it’s always a fear of mine. He has a toddler bed that he usually sleeps in and never tolls out of that.
@katy0990 I was thinking we’d try one of those (somewhat ugly) breathable” (there I go with the breathable thing again ) mesh side liner thingies to reduce wedged limbs and such.
Anyone have any experience with those? Reviews seem to indicate they may not stay up super well.

I’m with @Jens_Hoes on safe sleep. Sleep sacks def make a difference (no little legs sticking through the rails). Sometimes DD would roll and stick and arm through, and at first I’d rush to fix it (and be risking waking her up in the process). But after a while I relaxed about it and realized that mostly if her arm went through, she slept right through it and moved her arm herself when she woke up.
DD at 7ish months, sound asleep with her arm out of the crib.
Also: PSA: Do not disturb the sleeping baby. You will almost always regret it.
Random question: Anyone have any good ideas for a "dad gift" at a co-ed shower? I've asked one friend to ignore the registry and get my husband a new dad gift. The friend said sure, but just to let him know what I wanted him to get, lol. Oftentimes, I've seen moms receive something for them in addition to things for baby, so I wanted to make sure my husband got at least one thing just for him!
Early FFFC We put bumpers on our crib until dS could stand because otherwise he got himself wedged between the slats of the crib.
Our crib has always had bumpers, even still lol. But, DS slept in our bed until about 8/9 months, so by the time he was actually in the crib/around bumpers there wasn't much concern for him suffocating. This kid will likely be the same, in our bed for months then move to the crib.
@omnommer If It were my DH to be honest, I’d say a bottle of whiskey or something. That’s usually his favorite present lol.
@katy0990 We’ve always use the halo sleep sacks. We’re you using a fleece one by any chance? They also have cotton ones that are a lot lighter.
I used the mesh bumpers but only because my crib seemed to have an extra large gap between the mattress and bars for some reason. The mattress was the standard size so I still don’t know why. When I went back to bru they had bumpers in the display crib so you couldn’t see the gap. Anyway I bought those mesh bumpers and shoved them down in the crack so dd’s face was never near them and I just have them tied super tight. She’s 18 months and doesn’t mess with them.
@katy0990 I used a halo sleep sack initially to swaddle her arms down. I then moved on to a target brand when she grew out of that. Once we hit about 8 weeks or so, we did straight sleep sacks (without the swaddle component) and got them from carters or whereever. For this past winter I had two cotton sleeveless, one fleece sleeveless, and one fleece long sleeve because our house gets cold. I just had to go up to the next size (L) and bought two from buy buy baby in cotton/muslin fabric. She takes naps without one, but for overnight we use the sleep sack.
@omnommer I'd tell anyone to get my H a pack of Miller Lite, but if they wanted to be fancier, anything from one of our local breweries. Basically, beer.
Unsolicited recommendation: I love the Woolino sleepsacks. It is an investment, but they're all seasons and DD has used hers since I got it last winter. Though, I did buy a second one with the footholes in the summer so she could stand/move around more easily in her crib—and to have on hand in the random case that she soils the other.
Not sleepsacks per se but we loved the Zippadee-Zips. Then I was all “I should transition him out of sleep sacks because mobility!” Which in retrospect I wish I hadn't done. I think they make great sleep cues for kids.

@omnommer when we had our first, someone gave my husband a daddy surviva kit. It was super cute - they got one of the canvas tool belt things from Lowe’s or Home Depot - the ones that have pockets to hold tools and you tie it around your waist. They wrote “Daddy’s diaper changing kit” on it with fabric markers. Inside were safety googles, long metal tongs, rubber gloves, and clothespins. Plus a bunch of actually useful things like diaper cream and a travel size packets of wipes and some diapers. He thought it was hilarious - we hung it on the wall by the changing table with the tongs and safety goggles on hooks.
@PensiveCrayon I specifically have kept mine in the sleep sack because...mobility. Lol. It has definitely kept her from trying to climb out of the crib which I have no doubt she’d be working on by now if it weren’t for the fact that she can’t lift her legs!
Random question, but what time of day are you ladies taking your prenatal? I always took mine at night due to awful nausea in the beginning, but insomnia is kicking my butt lately, and somebody suggested the vitamin might be giving me extra energy. Thoughts on this?
Interesting! I've casually read that that the time of day doesn't matter, as far as one time being more beneficial than another but I haven't done real research on it. I'm a bit all over the place because I take six total a day two calcium gummies, two prenatal, two DHA. I try to do two in the morning, two in the early evening, two before bed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Seriously. I seem to do great for a couple of weeks then slack for one or two, repeat. I use a pill organizer thing - it's a matter of whether or not I refill it at the end of the week
I’m late replying, but @katy0990 we loved swaddling as long as we could get away with it 3.5 months maybe? And after that, sleep sacks, but you’re right, you have to be mindful of layering and how warm baby gets.
In warmer months we loved the thin aidan & anais linen sleep sacks, sometimes just with a onesie underneath if it was really hot, or a sleeper without feet. On the other hand, we used warmer microfiber Halo sleep sacks or sometimes even fleece ones when it was cooler, on top of knit footed sleepers.
@mrsm224 I take all my supplements and vitamins at night because in the AM I take my thyroid meds which I can't take within 4 hrs of many other supplements and need to take on an empty stomach. And I'm usually out and about in the afternoon and don't take my pills with me. So...PM it is!
@hoosiermama-2 Wow, you weren't joking when you said those Woolinos were an investment! I'm still sold on getting one or two though. They look pretty neat.

Girl I know. I unsubscribed from their newsletter because impulse I think both times I bought, though, I ended up going with Amazon because even with an on-site sale it was roughly the same price, but I’d get it within two days because of Prime shipping. I’ll try to keep an eye out toward Black Friday though. G
Re: prenatals, I've just always taken mine in the morning. I have gummies though, so they're supposed to be easier on the stomach as far as not causing nausea, so I've never had that issue with prenatals.
Second time moms: what are your experiences with the graco 4ever all in 1 carseat and the graco 4ever extend to fit? We already have an infant seat, but looking for recommendations for convertible seats after baby is too big for the infant seat. Currently registered for the extend to fit, but the lack of reviews (55 as opposed to 2000 for the standard 4ever all in 1) has me worried! Thanks!
These reviews might be helpful to you. Despite their cringeworthy name, car seats for the Littles is a group you’ll probably find yourself hearing about constantly (at least I did.) keep in mind they have a very strong philosophy about extended rear facing.
We have the Extend2fit—it is shorter front to back than average (if either front seat passenger is tall, take this into account), but a little wider than average (less space for a middle seat back passenger), so think about your specific backseat.

Not sleepsacks per se but we loved the Zippadee-Zips. Then I was all “I should transition him out of sleep sacks because mobility!” Which in retrospect I wish I hadn't done. I think they make great sleep cues for kids.

I'm a bit all over the place because I take six total a day
@hoosiermama-2 That’s a lot of prenatals!

I think both times I bought, though, I ended up going with Amazon because even with an on-site sale it was roughly the same price, but I’d get it within two days because of Prime shipping. I’ll try to keep an eye out toward Black Friday though. G
