@scaredunprepared I'm so sorry you had to make that decision. Praying for healing and the ability to walk without her leg. Poor baby. I am so glad to hear that the cancer didn't spread but again I am so incredibly sorry.
@mamajudec2018 thank you. We will know more about her prognosis on Monday after they test the affected areas to see what stage/grade it is. Hoping for low grade so that the prognosis is good. Waiting is so hard.
@scaredunprepared I’m so sorry about your dog!! What a relief you guys caught it early enough, I’m sure it’ll be a tough adjustment but I’m always amazed at how well dogs handle only having 3 legs. Hoping she has a quick recovery!!
Thank you everyone for the good thoughts!! This crazy storm shifted South again (I’m in south Virginia Beach). So I went and got a generator and we’re staying here. Still hoping i don’t lose power though because I won’t be a nice person.
@echo-charlietango I knew it! We've been using ALDI diapers since they started carrying baby stuff and the with the last two packages I've had leaking with my 22 month old. Hope they switch back or the my love for ALDI will be tainted! Thanks for the info!
@asun People either seem to love or hate ALDI in my area. Bringing a quarter and remembering to bring your own bags does take a little adjustment, but now we just always have quarters and extra bags in the car (probably because I've had to buy a million of them from forgetting). And, I love the sense of community kindness I see in the parking lot. We have a lot of people giving carts or even quarters. I even like the small store size...they usually just have one brand of each item and it's always the same, so I can do quite a bit of shopping in a short time. This is key with three little boys!:)
@scaredunprepared Sorry you're going through this with your pup. If you don't mind my asking, is the cancer osteosarcoma? I'm glad it hasn't spread and hope you get some quality time with your buddy now. We lost our pup during my first pregnancy after a very expensive attempt to remove a sock from her stomach, and I remember being sad for her, worried about money, and being very pregnant. From what I remember, dogs often do very well with just three legs and I bet she will still find a way to give you "hugs":).
I have one! Yesterday DS was kinda miserable at daycare because he has a cold. She said he was just laying around and kept crying. But he didn't have a fever so he didn't need to come home. (I'm pretty sure she just snuggled him all day because he smelled like her when he came home. Poor thing.) Well, after his nap she said he only slept for an hour and was crying and coughing. She sad he'd almost fall back to sleep and start coughing again. So at 2:00pm I went and woke DH up (he didn't sleep much the night before because DS was up a lot with his cold) and told him to go get DS. He didn't have to and he had no fever, but I knew he'd be more comfortable at home. It was over an hour later and I hadn't gotten the notification that DS had been checked out of daycare. I text him and asked about it and he said he was on his way. Apparently he thought it was more important to trim his facial hair and shower (and he takes LONG showers, his minimum is like 30 minutes *eye roll*). WTF DH!! DS isn't feeling well and you take your time to go get him. I was furious. (I was working, or I would have gone myself.)

@katy0990 Are they holes in your tires or just a pad pressure gauge? One of my tire pressure gauge's went bad and I kept getting that warning, so they just took it off my tire. I need it replaced, but DH hasn't done it yet.
@scaredunprepard Awwww I want to give you the biggest hug right now. That is so hard. It sucks when things like that happen to our babies. Annnd I just read your update and am now in tears at work. I am so sorry. Dogs are so adaptable though, and she's going to be just fine without that leg. Not nearly the same thing but my younger cocker spaniel went blind very suddenly (SARDS) when I was pregnant with DS and I had such a hard time with it. She has adapted great. Her quality of life is still just the same, she's just as happy, and still get into just as much mischief!
@asun123 That's an ALDI thing! All of them do it. I believe it is to make sure people put their carts back so they an cut back on labor costs and keep prices cheaper. We went to one when we were in FL and apparently Floridians don't care about getting their quarters back. lol I keep a quarter in my car just for trips tYou also have to bring your own bags!! @AdorkablePixie That is so frustrating! Why do dads get grooming/primping time, when moms don’t? I hope he feels better. Honestly, idk yet. The tires still look fine and DH hasn’t checked the pressure yet and I’m too lazy haha. The last 2 times, it has been a nail. Maybe I’ll go to Costco today and get it fixed.
@scaredunprepared I'm so sorry you had to go through all that yesterday. It's not easy being so worried about our dogs, especially when pregnant! I bet you will be amazed at how easily your dog adapts to three legs. My dog's quality of life has hardly changed since he became paralyzed and started using a cart to get around. If anything, it's gotten better because people love on him so much more whenever we are in public! A family friend's dog lost one of her legs after another dog attacked her and she said the same thing, once the dog was healed, the dog acted like nothing had even changed.
One thing my vet said to me that really stuck out (and seems obvious now but I was a hot mess at the time) was that animals don't know something is "different" about them like humans would so as long as they aren't in pain, their quality of life should be the same.
@katy0990 Right? A majority of my showers DS is in the bathroom with me, playing with toys. He woke up feeling a lot better!! Still sick but definitely on the mend and in good spirits (from the pictures DH sent). So yay! Nails in tires are the worst. That's happened to me a couple times.

To the random lady behind me: Turn your sound off. We are in a doctors office and we do not all need to hear every letter typed, message sent or every message received on your group text. It is loud AF!!
@scaredunprepared I'm glad the surgery seems to have gone well. I've seen dogs with missing limbs who get around just fine. Thinking about you and sending your positive vibes!
@scaredunprepared it sounds like you had a really terrible day to go through. I know the amputation had to be a hard decision, but it was the right decision because that’s what he needed. Taking care of your dog baby is hard, but it sounds like you are doing a great job. hugs
So it’s out appears that I am going to have a day today!! How is light cream, half cream/half coffee? I ordered small because I only drink one cup a day and last night got maybe 4 hours of sleep. I need an extra, extra large and then get serve a cup of hot cream. Barf. I would have said something but I am feeling extra bitchy today. When I lose it today it shouldn’t be over coffee to a teenager. Hopefully this is my last bitch of the day.

I didn't even notice the bag thing.! Here in San Diego, everyone has to use their own reusable bags anyways. (plastic bags cost extra money here). So I went in with my reusable bag and just used it as my shopping cart also.

@scaredunprepared Wow, I'm so sorry you had to go through all that with your pup and that he had to lose a leg. But such good news that the cancer didn't spread and hopefully he'll be able to adjust quickly to having three legs and live a long, healthy life! ❤️
@scaredunprepared My first baby dog (a rottweiler I got a 5 weeks old; he was seriously the love of my life) had osteosarcoma that he was diagnosed with when he was 6. It started as a knot in his shoulder and by the time he was diagnosed it had already spread to his lungs. I can tell you undoubtedly that if it hadn't, we would have done anything and everything to keep him here with us. I'm thankful your furbaby recovered well from surgery; I'm sure he'll adapt quickly! Prayers for good results from the other tests. So many hugs; I know exactly how hard this is.
@scaredunprepared I'm so sorry that you had to make that decision for your pup, but am happy to hear the cancer hadn't spread! Dogs are amazingly resilient. As others have said, once he's no longer in pain, he won't know that he's "missing" anything and will adapt incredibly. Just give him lots of love as he's recovering!
@LLynde5 Ah man, I would have returned it. I make my coffee at work and have even lessened the cream from what I used to do since I want more coffee in my one cup that I have these days. Haha!
I don't have much to bitch about, but I love ALDI. I'm also a weirdo and pay with cash a lot, so I'm never all that hard up for a quarter. I have a story that's the opposite of the grouchy old man yelling at the lady - a few years ago I forgot my wallet on the bagging counter. It probably had hundreds of dollars in cash in it. Old man runs it out to me, and thank God for that. So when I put my cart back, I was thinking, "I'll just pay it forward an itty bitty bit and leave my quarter in here, so someone gets a nice surprise". The same old man went to put his cart back, saw that I hadn't taken my quarter, and runs over to me hollering about that to give it back to me. He must have thought I was a hot fucking mess, LOL
@runrinserepeat that is so sweet, though. I feel like aldi shoppers are more community minded. Maybe it’s the size? I have had people help me carry my gigantic bag to the car, entertain DS in the checkout line, and let me go in front. I actually like shopping there.
So my bf is, ds is still sick. We took him to the doctor this morning and the prescribed him antibiotics so hopefully we can kick this sickness out our home for good!
Second bf is this hurricane. So my side of the family all live in myrtle beach sc and surrounding areas. The only person evacuating is my sister and her husband because they live on the beach. If anyone is looking at updates you see how bad this hurricane is. Now it's suppose to turn into sc and then stall but he can't be convinced to leave. Anyways I'm rambling. #1 pet peeve is stubborn old men right now.
@morgantu yes thank you DH and I had a conversation yesterday and he apologized for being a complete ass, and Tylenol helped with my headache/neck ache. Thank you for checking in
@scaredunprepared I'm so sorry you (and puppers, of course) had to go through all that yesterday. She is lucky to have owners like you and she will bounce right back and adapt to being three-legged with finesse. Hugs to you!
Also @scaredunprepared I'm so sorry for you and puppers. Thankfully surgery went well, fx that recovery goes well. There's no pain like seeing your puppys or babies sick.
@Jens_Hoes glad to hear It! I love when mh acknowledges his assishness! And drugs, always drugs. Better living through modern chemistry!
@lavenderlisa aww, hope your ds feel a better with some abx. And finger crossed for your family that everyone who needs out will get out and their homes will all make it through! It's so hard when our parents don't listen to us when we're right! Is it payback for our teenage years?
I love you guys. Thank you all so much for the positivity!
@orangecrush29 thank you so much, it's been a rough few days! We are hoping she heals quickly and adapts well. How are you handling sticking out the storm?
@ScootsMcG it's not osteosarcoma, it's mast cell cancer. The type, size, and location of the tumor made it such that removal of the tumor itself would have increased risk for complications with healing and chance for inadvertently spreading the cancer because it's part of the immune system. So removing the leg was the only way to ensure we removed all of the cancer. I'm still questioning whether it was the right choice, though. It's so difficult. I'm so sorry you lost your pup during your first pregnancy! I'm an emotional wreck, I don't even want to imagine what it would be like to lose her!
@AdorkablePixie thank you. I could use all the hugs right now. We are hopeful she recovers well. I'm glad your dog adapted well to going blind though it stinks it happened at all. My parents had a dog who went blind, too, and she did great in her familiar environment. We are optimistic for our baby to do well on 3 legs. Poor DS! My SO would TOTALLY do the same thing, though. Before he goes out anywhere, he must trim his face, shower (and his showers are longer than mine, too!), and do his hair. Like, why do you need to get all dolled up to go to the pharmacy??? And what on earth takes a man 20-30 minutes in the shower???? And when there is a sick child involved, why do you think your beauty routine takes priority? Ugh.
@katy0990 thanks. She is home! I'm really feeling emotional about it. I think I'm having a harder time adjusting than she is.
@lippy625 that is helpful. I'm glad your pup adjusted well to the wheelchair, but of course sorry he became paralyzed in the first place. I think it's good to hear positive outcomes, and you're right, animals don't know something is different about them, just that they need to get used to doing things differently.
@Jens_Hoes@kadeephd@Activebaby@maureenmce@clbness thank you all so much. We are trying to do what's best for her, both physically and quality of life wise. She needed treatment, we just hope we made the right choice. We are glad the cancer hasn't spread, but of course are still worried we will get bad news on Monday when we find out more about her prognosis.
@texas_t thank you for sharing, and I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I'm crying just thinking about it! We will do whatever we can. We hope she is able to adapt well, and are of course hoping for good news Monday.
@omnommer thanks. We hope she does as well as others in adjusting to being a tripod. We will definitely be giving her lots of love!
@lavenderlisa thank you. We hope she recovers quickly and adapts well. I'm still so worried about her, though. I'm sorry your DS is still sick! And sorry your dad is being so stubborn. It's probably hardest for you because it's not just about him. I know sometimes men can be too stubborn and proud to admit they need help or listen to professionals!
Our furbaby did well in recovery and has been eating and drinking well. She is adjusting slowly to life with 3 legs, but is struggling. She is home now, though which is probably comforting. Watching her struggle is so hard. I am second guessing our decision, but there is no way to take back what is done, and I know we did what we thought was best. I really am struggling with seeing her this way. I hate it and have spent most of the time she's been home crying. I hope it gets easier for both of us.
@scaredunprepared I’m sorry you are going through this stress and worry with your pup. Re: second-guessing your decision to amputate — when there is a hard situation like this, ALL the choices are painful. You made the best choice you could possibly make, in the situation, with the information you have And even though you made the best of the choices, there’s still painful adjustment, for you and for your sweet pup. Hugs to you.
@scaredunprepared Right?! I feel like my husband acts more like a woman than I do sometimes. He even has a huge shoe collection. DS appears to have the same shoe obsession already and he's only 2! As far as your fur baby, you did what was best for your pup. Anything you would have chosen to do would have been hard for you emotionally. It's going to take some time to adjust but she's got this! She's lucky to have you and your SO to love on and comfort her.

Feeling bitchy about MH this morning. He spent all yesterday up in Montgomery shopping for uniform stuff for his trip on Monday and also nearly broke his car when he had to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident on the way up. So I get it dude, you had a long day and I’m happy you’re alive.
He came home with a headache and has essentially been sleeping since we put the baby to bed at 7. 12 HOURS AGO. He also slept in until 7:30 yesterday and I’m just. Blah. Annoyed. I can’t think of the last time I slept in, and yet he routinely just does, without asking or informing. Like it’s automatically my job to get our son up, changed, and fed in the morning. Sweet.

@scaredunprepared I hope this gives you some comfort but when our 16 year (on the 17th) tore his acl surgery wasn’t an option. What gave me comfort was our vet saying dogs are lucky animals, they only need three legs and are given a spare. It only took our pup two days to relearn how to walk without using the bad leg. Our biggest hurtle would be the hardwood floors. We bought lots of rugs and carpets to give him more options for traction!
@PensiveCrayon Oh my gosh, preach on the “automatically my job” thing. So annoying. Why do I have to ask you to get up and get your kid when it’s obvious she’s awake? Arg!
@scaredunprepared I’m sorry you’re struggling with your decision! For what it’s worth it sounds to me like you absolutely made the right choice. It’s so hard when you start to second guess yourself. I think your doggie will adjust just fine and be back to himself in no time! Fx that’s the case!
@scaredunprepared Hoping you and your pup adjust as quickly as possible. I would be crying too!
Re: Aldi. I love Aldi. I also recently went to Lidl for the first time, which is similar but even better (I think). Sadly, there isn't one close enough to us to be convenient for regular grocery shopping.
@PensiveCrayon Solidarity girl. DH always get to "sleep in" when I am working, by sleep in I mean until DS gets up which is 7-8. To me, that's sleeping in. Then on his days off or when he goes to work late, he drops DS off at daycare and comes home and naps. I get so mad, especially when I am working from home and wish I was sleeping, and he's in bed asleep! This is not fair. The whole point of dropping DS off at daycare (well, part of the reason) is so he can finish our walk in closet and we can start emptying the baby's room of my clothes! I'll let you guess how much he has done on the closet since DS started daycare...

@LLynde5 Better coffee today I hope?
@asun123 I wish everybody charged for plastic. I heart my reusable shopping bags and am astounded that I rarely see them in public (unless I walk by something reflective). *Especially* living in a town that doesn’t recycle. Ugh, makes me all sad for the future of this planet and wildlife.
@PensiveCrayon Maybe he’s just getting all of sleeping in before Theda arrives? Regardless, I agree that he can totally be proactive about helping with A.
My mini-bitch today is that I ate too much food but want more (is this how my dog feels?!). I had lunch buffet with DH shortly after waking, so with zero appetite I had bbq chicken, two sides and a salad. Stuffed. I prefer not eating until I'm hungry, but DH likes seeing me eat before noon because the baby might want to eat. Then I came home and was craving a bowl of cereal - so I had a small one. Now I feel like an overstuffed Echo. I just want to nap but I'm afraid that sleeping will slow down my digestion and I want things to keep moving. Ugggghhh.

He also slept in until 7:30 yesterday and I’m just. Blah. Annoyed. I can’t think of the last time I slept in, and yet he routinely just does, without asking or informing. Like it’s automatically my job to get our son up, changed, and fed in the morning. Sweet.

@scaredunprepared I’m sorry you’re struggling with your decision! For what it’s worth it sounds to me like you absolutely made the right choice. It’s so hard when you start to second guess yourself. I think your doggie will adjust just fine and be back to himself in no time! Fx that’s the case!

Ugggghhh.
