@hkom I think the advice to avoid it is mostly based on the fact that we know it is absorbed into the bloodstream and we don't have enough evidence on its impact since it's hard to do studies on the safety of things during pregnancy.

@coybig Good luck with the yellow jackets.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd I really wouldn’t worry too much about it. My doctor has told me that meds applied topically have such a small chance of getting to baby.

@coybig That sounds awful! Good luck!
  • @katy0990 I'm not really that worried.  I'm mostly pissed that I seem incapable of reading a list of ingredients.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @scaredunprepared I'm so sorry about your dog...hopefully treatment can extend his life and ease pain!
@orangecrush29 Good luck with whatever decision you go for and keep us updated...stay safe!
@MissAmber23 Ugh, I'm so sorry about the break-in.  Cancelling cards is such a cruddy process...I hope it's as easy as possible for you!
@coybig Ick, yellow jackets are the worst.  Here's to hoping the vicious a-holes are gone today.

My BF is minor, but annoying.  I have an employee out on vacation all week, so I have to step in and do his duties, which I don't mind.  I actually love doing order entry, as it breaks the monotony of my duties.  But, there's one CSR in particular that just doesn't seem to pull her weight when we're short-handed.  She kind of saunters around the office being all chatty Cathy and has no sense of urgency.  So, I typically end up doing my job, the absent person's job and a little more.  I stayed an hour late last night just to catch up on my own duties.  My BF is mainly about her, but also that I will pretty much be MIA from TB this week since I'll basically be carrying these bitches on my back all week.  :D

  • @scaredunprepared I’m sorry to hear of your dog’s diagnosis. I hope that the care he needs can treat him and keep him feeling good.
@coybig how did it end up with the yellow jackets? I call an exterminator - no way I’d fight it by myself.

That's true.  But that also means that we can't know much about the effects any chemical out there.  I drove myself batty early on because it seems like almost every cosmetic ingredient out there is on someone's list of "bad chemicals for pregnancy."  I just feel like if the APA or the ACOG doesn't explicitly tell me it's bad, and my OB doesn't tell me to avoid it, then it's probably not worth much effort worrying about.  If you want to avoid it, that's fine, but the occasional slip-up isn't going to have any effect on the baby considering how minuscule of an amount of whatever chemical we're talking about that absorbed from a one-time or few-times application.

    BabyFruit Ticker

  • @hkom I know you are right.  I definitely drove myself crazy in the beginning.  I'm not really that worried this time around, but I do have a vague sense of unease about all the chemicals I'm exposed to that I can do little about.  I have control over the sunscreen one so I was frustrated I managed to screw it up.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd I read your BF about that as being at least partly about misleading labels. I was trying to avoid chemical sunscreens for the kiddo and realized after a year maybe? that the zinc oxide sunscreen we were using also had assorted chemical sunscreens. #mommyfail
  • @scaredunprepared I'm so sorry about your pup. I hope he responds well to treatment. Our dog has some medical issues, and it's worse than dealing with it with the kids, honestly.

@MissAmber23 sorry to hear about the break in! We've had a bunch in my city lately, so I'm super paranoid this is going to happen to us.
    Pass the sheet cake.

    BabyGaga
  • @katzalia Yes it was also about misleading labels!  They don't make it easy.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd Definitely feel you on the control aspect.  Take what you can get, because so much is out of our hands.

  • @scaredunprepared I cried for days when I found out my pup was diagnosed with cancer. So many hugs and prayers for y'all and your furbaby  <3

@asun123 I'm pretty sure all ALDIs do that.  We used to have several different grocery stores around here that used that method as well.  I love it and wish every store did it.  It motivates people to return the carts instead of just leaving them all over the parking lot, AND it makes sure they are put away neatly since you have to lock it into the other carts to get your quarter back.

That's crazy! I've never heard of this before. I just wish they would have sent out some kind of announcement or something since there is not one other grocery store in all of San Diego that does that. People were having to leave the store and go home. I'm not sure if I'll go there much more, but I guess I'll put a quarter in a baggie with it marked 'ALDI' in my purse pocket so I'll always be prepared in the future.

  • @asun123 your Aldi comments made me giggle!  They sell quarter holders on Etsy if you need one!  I am most annoyed with the bagging and in my town the cashiers are b*tchy.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuudge... I gotta stay off Facebook for the rest of this hormonal pregnancy (hell, postpartum too). The 9/11 posts, migrant kids being abused sexually & otherwise.

A medium solution might be unfavoriting NY Times so it's not the first thing I see every time I check my newsfeed. :|
  • .....and I'm sure listening to old, moody Arcade Fire isn't helping. :bawling:  :D
  • @echo-charlietango  did you happen to watch Gilmore girls?  Your BF reminded me about the church bell they fix that won’t stop ringing in season 4.
@asun123  I love ALDI! You get the quarter back at the end.  I just keep one in my car at all times, along with some reusable bags. That does stink that they didn’t notify anyone.  You can get some awesome deals there, though. It has become my primary grocery store lately.
  • @lexidawg and @orangecrush32 Sorry you guys are having to deal with possible evacuations! I hope everyone who needs to gets out safely.

@asun123 Thecquarters are funny and took me by surprise too. Luckily at my local Aldi people have a sense of community and will often wait for you to walk up and give you their cart or leave the cart a little loose so that the next person doesn’t have to put a quarter in.  :D It’s the little things.

@hoosiermama-2 I feelnyou. Every year I avoid social media and the news. I get way too emotional over it and I’m sure it would be worse pregnant. I know it’s the opposite of what we’re supposed to do but I actively spend the day not trying to think about it. I sure as hell remember though.

  • @katy0990 Nope, never watched. Glad to know that someone else (if fictional) knows my pain. Luckily it stopped a few minutes after posting.

    Re: ALDI
I haven't been around one often enough to be a normal shopper, but I avoid using carts so I haven't needed to use the just-in-case quarters in my car  PSA; I read recently that they changed the store diapers to crappy ones, so hopefully that'll change back so you ALDI shoppers can get quality (disposable) diapers easily. Until then, enjoy your German candies!

One young mom was there with a very small baby and offered to take some older guy's cart since he was in a line to put it back. (which is usually the polite thing to do at any other grocery store) And he yelled at her that he wanted his quarter back. Just like me, she had never been there before. When we were inside, she was on the phone crying to someone about the situation. I felt so bad.

  • The grocery store I usually goes to hires special needs teens and adults to bag groceries and to collect carts. (which has always made me extremely happy since my brother has Down Syndrome). They have always been so polite and make my shopping trips that much better when I get to talk to them. So, I honestly think I'll just stick with my regular grocery store. And our ALDI was very small and didn't have much. Smallest fruit and veggie area I've ever seen. I'm thinking they won't stay open very long here in San Diego.

  • @rosebud332 I was reading about it on Reddit. Apparently the new supplier has swapped out the elastic back for a wetness indicator, but the fit isn't awesome. I don't have experience with diapers really, and that sounds like a real pain.

That's awful!  Over a freaking quarter?!  I always just keep change in my car for parking meters / kids selling lemonade, so having a spare quarter is never usually an issue for me.

  • @echo-charlietango Oh ok actually I think I have a box of those already and they seem ok. I could definitely see it making a difference in smaller sizes though.

  • @asun123 their produce isn’t always the greatest, with the exception of the bagged salad. Their milk and eggs are significantly cheaper and we love their nuts, chips, baking ingredients, frozen veggies, applesauce pouches, and take and bake pizzas. At mine, usually the cashier will make change and give you a quarter. That poor mom.
  • @coybig I too am a little disappointed that no flamethrower was involved, but congrats on your success!
