I once saw a drive by where a woman posted a photo of her cat lying beside her. She was all “omg my cat is evil she never does this, does this mean I am pragnate? Can she smell my feramones” It really makes me wonder what goes through ones mind when they fire up the internet and turn to a bunch of strangers for counsel...
I like that the one drive-by accepted my answer that she's pregnant and having a girl. Good lord. I was 100% joking. Then she wrote on my wall and said I was pressed (whatever that means).
@wishiwaspreggo I got my first bump warning because of my comment on that girls post lol!! I'm a very very sarcastic person and commented that meme saying 'you get out of here' and boom, im in trouble lol.
@kels0091 I was about to tell you to remove that and then the thread got shut down and the meme was removed. Unfortunately, you can't tell people to leave or go to other sites because it ruins people's enjoyment of the site or some such nonsense

@kels0091 I'm all about keeping expectations low and then having that 90's movie makeover moment. @holly321 Congrats on the new house! We moved this past May and have a little dog who like your cat gets into everything. I can't have throw rugs or welcome mats b/c he will steal them drag it all around the house and tear it to shreds.
Randoms: We bought this house built in 1980's its got red brick fireplace and wooden trim and wood beams all over the living room. Trying to find some ideas on pinterst to update it make it more modern. Seems like most suggestions are to paint everything white. I'm a bit scared to do that because once its done there's no going back to the wood if it doesn't look good.
Just jumping in randomly! I've been posting in TWW but haven't ventured out here to randoms yet. Not much to say right now but I just did an intense workout and I can already feel how sore my body is going to be. I never want to move from this couch.
@suzycupcake I want to like goat cheese so badly but I just can't. I keep trying it in hopes that my taste buds will change. It looks soooo delicious and creamy but that aftertaste gets me.
@amc772 have you considered grey for the fireplace? I've seen that look nice and modern without so much white. Maybe the beams could stay white? Not sure what your setup looks like but I love this fireplace color (not a fan of those green? walls though)
@whiteswanblackswan@mamanbebe sorry to be getting back to you so late this weekends project ended up being more work than expected. Thanks for all the suggestions.
I like the fireplace example you have there it is very modern. What's tricky about our fireplace setup is that the entire wall is brick so if I painted it any color the entire wall would be that color. I'm worried about painting brick in general b/c if it doesn't come out good you really can't go back. I like the wood beams so considering painting the trim around it white the mantle white and leaving the beams wood then painting the walls a different color..
I like the fireplace and beams I would possibly consider painting the ceiling a darker shade if the room gets good light, just to balance things out a little differently.
@amc772 , I totally get what you mean. once you paint, there is no going back. Have you thought of just covering it? Take the beam down and do something like this... And then either leave it or add the beam back up.
With all that space you have, you could totally add some nice narrow shelves on each side as well to frame it. That would be gorgeous.
You don't necessarily have to do the shiplap style, you can just do solid wood and paint it, or different color boards... possibilities are endless.

Thank you ladies for all of your suggestions. You've been very helpful. I'm leaning towards painting all the trim and beams white. If it doesn't come out good taking the beams down and just having a normal ceiling.
I like @KristoKekerooni's idea of framing it with some narrow shelves for decor pieces as well as painting the trim white. Painting the ceiling any other color aside from white will just make the room look smaller. What if you mounted a flat screen over the fireplace and a modern mantle directly over the fireplace, with enough space to put some decor pieces there too?
The all the way across shelf just looks really outdated. As for the beams on the ceiling, you could add some different types of wood shelving if you do decide to make narrow shelves, to break up the wood color a bit, and make it more fun to look at. I agree that you have a whole lot of wonderful space there to work with. You could do all kinds of things with it really.

Reminder to self: at work, WFAF means something entirely different then it does here. Seeing it in an excel document does not mean you are losing your damn mind and typing the wrong thing. No one is going to see it and wonder what it means. They will know that it's a bank and nothing more.
@wishiwaspreggo, I am 90% sure it was you.... But, I in general do not like wine. I have tried a bunch and usually gag it down. But, you were talking so highly of Cabernet, it made me want to try it, and I think I am in love, so thank you!
Has anyone switched from wearing engagement ring and band to just wearing wedding band(s)? I want to make the switch but I'm nervous about hurting DH's feelings.
@mamanbebe I only wear my plain gold band, unless we are getting dressed up. DH lost his ring a couple years ago and we haven't gotten him a new one yet. For us, it isn't a big deal at all. I would just either directly ask him what he thinks, or just start wearing only the band and address it if he brings it up. Also, I really think we both get hit on more when we are wearing our rings... So you can tell him that if that is why he is worried .
@mamanbebe i wear both somedays and just my band some days. My DH doesn’t really have an opinion on it, but if you’re concerned I would go with the direct approach and just tell him and if it’s important to you for him to know why then I would be direct with that too. I always find that direct and open communication is a good thing.

"Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks, some doors are open, some roads are blocked"
@mamanbebe I got my band and wedding ring fused together right before we got married so my ring is like one unit, which I love. Is that an option? If not, just be honest and tell him you want to wear your band. My husband doesn't even wear his and I never think twice about it - he's a mechanic so it wouldn't be the safest thing in the world for him to have a ring on his finger.
Thank god for home inspections. We found the dream home, sold the townhouse (don't have to be out until november 1st thankfully), did the home inspection expecting the usual troubles with an old home. We found out the entire attic needs to be gutted due to asbestos, the entire house needs to be re wired for electrical, the deck needs to be replaced, the owner lied about the septic tank being new and its not to code so that has to be ripped out and a new one installed, we cannot build an additional home on the 1/4 acre property, the owner said the roof was new but the inspection determined that was a lie (Maury reference! Lol) So the inspection was 800$ and the repairs would have costs us around 65K- their is WAY more wrong with the house but those are the big ticket ones. So fingers crossed the house we view today is great because otherwise come november 1st we are moving in with my bfs parents lol
@kels0091 That is terrible! We had a similar outcome from an inspection about 5 years ago where the house was only 30y old and although it looked great, had about 20-30K of work that needed to be completed within the first year. Good luck with round2 of your search!
@kgg2241 , @Avrilmai , @riff323 thanks for your experiences I do need to just bring it up to him at some point. I keep hoping that it will magically resolve itself but I'm sure bringing up how my ring gets scratched up and filthy on a daily basis from working around the house may be logical enough that he can get on board.
@mamanbebe, my hands swell often through out the day, so I generally don't wear my rings. I will occasionally, but, I often forget to put them on in the morning. DH used to say he was going to buy me a summer set that was bigger, yet it never happened, itused to bother him when I didn't wear anything. I mentioned to DH to get me a silicone ring I can wear on those days, and he told me to get it myself, romantic.
@kels0091, that is awful, but fortunately, you found out before you settled!
@holly321 Boo on your H for not getting onboard the silicone ring romance train haha. Silicone rings are so great! A friend of mine just got married and they ended up doing those since they are both working with their hands all day. My mom has always worn a basic gold comfort band since her veterinarian days and I can see the draw now that I need to take both my rings of do outdoor work or else I end up with blisters.
MH gets super upset when I take my rings off. Which I do regularly when food prep happens. And cleaning. Basically I can't stand the thought of them getting dirty/gross and being on my hands. I would LOVE to get mine fused but I don't think he could handle me not having them on that long.
@kels0091you for sure got lucky with that! Inspection can seem like a waste but there are so many times that they save you a sh#% ton of money in repairs.
@prpl11butterfly haha this is a little closer to me vs MH. We are mostly kidding but when either one of us takes a ring off we are all "WAIT A MINUTE WAIT A MINUTE, YOU PUT THAT BACK ON!". I'm mostly worried about hurting his feelings because engagement rings are expensive and I think he feels proud of getting me a really nice thing to symbolize his love for me. I don't want him to think I don't like it, because I do love it. I just want to give it a rest from wear and tear after 5 years of daily wear.

This is also really pretty and seems easy enough to do if you are creative. I mean, it will take work, but would be worth it. https://thriftdiving.com/tutorial-how-to-paint-an-old-brick-fireplace/

"Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks,
some doors are open, some roads are blocked"
We found out the entire attic needs to be gutted due to asbestos, the entire house needs to be re wired for electrical, the deck needs to be replaced, the owner lied about the septic tank being new and its not to code so that has to be ripped out and a new one installed, we cannot build an additional home on the 1/4 acre property, the owner said the roof was new but the inspection determined that was a lie (Maury reference! Lol)
So the inspection was 800$ and the repairs would have costs us around 65K- their is WAY more wrong with the house but those are the big ticket ones.
So fingers crossed the house we view today is great because otherwise come november 1st we are moving in with my bfs parents lol
@kgg2241 , @Avrilmai , @riff323 thanks for your experiences
I mentioned to DH to get me a silicone ring I can wear on those days, and he told me to get it myself, romantic.
@kels0091, that is awful, but fortunately, you found out before you settled!
@kels0091you for sure got lucky with that! Inspection can seem like a waste but there are so many times that they save you a sh#% ton of money in repairs.
