Re: Weekday Randoms 7/23-7/27

  • @morgantu so exciting, good luck!!

@maureenmce &@lexidawg I am SO jealous of your post delivery meals & drinks! I live in such a rural area that the cafeteria has very limited hours and nothing in town was open so I had to go with vending machine shit after delivering DS. BOOO. Maybe next time I'll have DH go get pizza and champagne after the fact.

@Jens_Hoes I had nearly an identical experience to you in that the nipple shield saved my BF experience. DS was born on a Tuesday right before midnight and I didn't try a nipple shield until Friday when an LC was like.. HERE, use this. Those days between were so difficult I'd try to nurse, it would always be unsuccessful due to flat nipples so then I'd pump and feed him with a little dropper like a bird. I was trying to hard to listen to everything SIL (who is also an LC) was advising and she said she wouldn't personally use the shield. You gotta do you, I learned that big time.

  • @morgantu here's to hoping it's yours!
  • I went on my hospital tour Tuesday night. When I asked about them supplementing with formula, she was very adamant that they only give baby formula if absolutely medically necessary. That worries me a little, but I figure if I feel worried, DH will throw a fit and make sure it happens. He's good that way  :D

  • fingers crossed for you @morgantu! Keep us updated!!
  • @hkom Eekk, that's an adorable, happy pupper!

@morgantu Sending good vibes on the house...I'm so hoping they accept your offer!

@binxybaby I don't know why, but that surprises me a hospital is so "last resort only" on formula.  Maybe I assume that all hospitals would be in the mindset of "as long as baby is fed," but I guess not!  Weird (and stupid).  I received a lot of formula in the mail (large sample sizes) before I had DD.  Maybe you'll get some and can just pack it in your hospital bag in case they're assholes about it.

@temmetime I was just thinking the other day that DH should go get us some champagne this go around...I'm thinking that's going to have to be a definite!

  • Oh my god @hkom that is adorable!!
  • @binxybaby Just a thought — you may find yourself receiving free newborn formula samples (I know I got a lot, not sure about others) so you could take that along with you in your hospital bag.

@binxybaby If you request that baby be formula fed and say you are not going to breast-feed, they have to give the baby formula. Nowadays, because of the baby friendly certification, they have to state that they will not supplement unless medically necessary so that babies whose parents do not request it are not given formula without parental consent.
At one point, DS’ blood sugar was low, so I was given an option between giving him formula or pumping, so I know even baby-friendly hospitals have formula.
  • @echo-charlietango can I ask what car seat you plan to use in the prius? We have a Mazda3. DS is going to go forward facing behind the driver so that's not an issue but I'm worried about the infant seat causing the passenger to have to sit basically on the dash.
  • @katy0990 Thanks for the info! That makes a lot of sense. I had a feeling they would have formula...there are definitely plenty of moms who do not breastfeed, but it's good to know why they might be so hesitant.

  • @kristah2 Of course! We're planning on getting the ($200) Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat until LO is 30lbs & 30", then up to the ($280) Britax Marathon ClickTight. We're not too sure how roomy the passenger seat will be with rear-facing LO behind the passenger TBH. When we test drove a same-sized Prius DH said that the backseat was roomier than my current Yaris, but we haven't fretted about the dimensions. I rarely drive with passengers because if DH and I go somewhere together, we always take his car (Honda Element). Hopefully the passenger seat won't be too crammed though, because I want us to drive the Prius more because I'm all about lower emissions and excellent fuel efficiency

  • DS1 was in the nicu b/c of blood sugar issues and I wasn't able to produce anything by pumping so he had to have formula.  It was 15 ml every 3 hours which is half an ounce if that gives you any idea of how little they need the first couple of days and then increased from there.

Perfect thanks @echo-charlietango!! I was actually just talking to a car seat tech who recommended the chicco keyfit 30 to me, she said its the shortest front to back on the market and would fit a newborn better then my snugride 22.
Also I LOVE the Britax Marathon!!! That's what I have now behind my passenger seat with zero issues. I mean I don't have LOADS of room but I'm comfortable enough. In fact I just bought the Britax Essential Allegiance for our second car. It's replacing the Marathon G4.1 as the marathon is now just clicktight, the essentials line is the same but just static as opposed to the clicktight and about $100 less which was worth it to be since I use the latch system anyway and by the time we are over the 40lb max for latch I'll install with a seatbelt but they still won't be moved so one time hassle is totally worth the $100 to me.
  • Yessss to the Marathon! (Or maybe the Boulevard, I can never remember which -- we have the ClickTight though, and I love it to death). H drives a Honda Fit, which is a pretty tiny subcompact, so when we need to use the car seat in it (like, for long trips to save gas money) we have to push the passenger front seat up pretty far and I sit in the back with Bub for comfort. It works great for us, although with two kids we may have to stop using the Fit and rely solely on the Highlander for child transport.

  • We have a Marathon and bought it for safety ratings and because if needed, it could fit in my Scion TC's bucket seats.

  • We also have the Britax Marathon in each of our vehicles. We wanted it for safety and it was one of the few that would work in my Chevy Sonic rear facing with my 6’2 DH in the car too.
  • So, long story short, get a Britax Marathon!

  • @binxybaby Making a mom feel shamed or uncomfortable is just not cool, but I wonder if it's because they offer donor milk first?? We struggled to latch at first so while we were getting the hang of it, they supplied us with donor BM.
I admit i skimmed the replies, so I don't know if you covered this already.

  • @morgantu that’s wonderful news!  We are putting an offer in tonight and your success story has me really excited!!

@scaredunprepared fx the showings go well!!

@LLynde5 eeeeek! Fx for you! I hope you don't have to wait long to hear. Is your market crazy hot as well? It's so stressful!

@scaredunprepared yassssss girl! Are you waiting a specific amount of time to decide? Hope your offers so far are great and keep getting better!

I spent the morning in the kitchen doing recon: do we need to repaint or can we magic eraser this room into its former glory? And aside from some cabinet and windowsill touch ups, I think the magic eraser is living up to its name!
  • Does anyone know which thread was talking about maternity coats vs not? Cannot figure out and I know I saw it recently and meant to go back to it.
