  • @jessier19 I love Lionel/Leo, but my husbands family is Argentinian/Paraguayan and they would totally think we named him after Messi. I think his grandmother would weep tears of joy lol. Before I met my husband I knew who Messi was, but never would have thought you’d named your kid after him. Especially after his abysmal World Cup showing lol.
  • @jessier19 Another reason I’m not sold on Vicente is because we’re Mexican American/Mexican and everyone is going to think the name is for the singer Vicente Fernandez, that was MILs first reaction.
  • Holy snap this baby name tinder app is addictive hahaha

  • @antera23 Elijah (Eli) is my most favorite boy name ever, but I’m biased because it’s my 7 yo’s name  :D
  • @cmjenkies you might have just convinced me because I love Eli!! I never thought of that nickname! My BF is going to be very happy, lol.
  • @antera23 hahaha he has ALWAYS been called Eli. Elijah is just reserved for when he’s in trouble  :D
  • @kayjay44 love Else. We have an Elsie. We call her Els.
  • My husband loves the name Keith Boden. I prefer Boden Keith.

Girls names are iffy. Maeve and Quin are runners. Middle name: Mason.
  • @LuLiLaEv - feeling the same way.

@jessier19 my husband would be ecstatic if I let him name our first born after Messi (2 crazy American soccer fans here) but I like the name Lionel/Leo regardless.

We are also Team Green but pretty set on a boy name. James Charles after both our grandfathers (his: James, also husband's middle name and mine: JC and Charles).

For girls I have always loved Lilyana Sue (initials would be LSD, too bad or not a big deal?) Sue is my middle name and I was named after my Aunt Linda Sue, so it's top choice for girl middle name. We also like Adelaide, I like Kellyn (or Kellon for a boy but DH is not a fan)
  • My daughter’s initials are ARG! @ksdelong20
  • My kids all have uncommon names, and that is what my husband loves. His suggestions are always way out there. I am starting to think that I will just have to agree to one and find a nickname that I love.
  • @adough27. Omg Ryker!! My husband is a huge TNG fan too haha I even also sort of like it hehe
It's a solid name and the character himself isnt that bad looking :)
  • @vanessa88 I'm in the same french/english boat and it is way harder than I imagined. The venn diagram of what sounds good, what I like and what DH likes has very little overlap going on.

Our frontrunner for a girl is Annaliese and DH has suggested Violet as the middle name. For a boy we don't have a clear frontrunner. We've most recently thrown around Gabriel Thomas. It's hard!

Is anyone else doing something other than just the father's last name? We are leaning towards hyphenating but can't agree on order. And that's probably something we should decide before first names!

Girls: I like the name Gertrude, named after my grandma. I also like Enid.
For boys, I'm lost. Ernest is kinda neat, and I also like Arthur.

If I have more kids after this one, though, I'll have to come up with a new crop of names. Gertrude and Ernest can't be siblings (DH already jokes about having 'Gert and Ernie'), and Enid is a character from Arthurian legend, so an Arthur and an Enid would make it seem like I'm some kind of medievalist. Sigh.

@becks_726 we thought about hyphenating for a split second, but we both have long, complicated last names so we figured we’d spare the poor kid. Instead s/he’ll have my husband’s last name, and my last name as a middle name. I figured I’d let my husband have this one, since he’s an only child from a tiny family. My family name won’t die out anytime soon.

  • @grebretso we've considered that too but I think our last names actually sound nice together. (And I'm stubborn af.) Will you be giving just the one middle name?
  • I was so excited to get rid of my last name so I had one name I didn’t have to automatically spell, so luckily that’s not an issue  :D

@becks_726 Yep, just one middle name. I’m not big on middle names at all (no one in my family has one) and would prefer not to have one, but it’s the only way I can get my last name in there that makes sense to me.

  • @becks_726 we’re planning on giving our kid a hyphenated last name. My name is 2 syllables and his is sort of 1.5 (Cohen) so I’m hoping that won’t be too much of a mouthful.

    @cass06_07 that’s so cool!
  • etnyahetnyah member
Haha @kayjay44 I have to spell my name out all the time! If I had taken my husband’s name I would have still had to though, his is way worse than mine!  :D

  • @jessier19 same-ish. Mine's 1.5, his is 2 and they are both simple names. Have you determined the order?
  • @becks_726 yeah, in our case having mine first is just easier to say. Somehow, I feel like if it’s mine then his they blend and it comes out smoothly, whereas if it’s his then mine they feel like a mouthful
  • @Grebretso - Mine's now Johnson. Nice and easy...

  • I went from one easy last name to another easy last name. You’d think it’d be hard to fuck up Morris but our Tv Guide always came as Mooris back in the day.  :D
  • DD decided I am having a girl and her name will be Amelia.

I’m not looking forward to the naming process, DH and I couldn’t agree last time so it came down to me throwing down the “I birthed her” card and naming her 2 days after she was born.
  • @conchispita I do think that's the ultimate trump card. When you carry the kid and birth it, you do kind of get the final say.
  • @jessier19 hell no. I’m all for unique names, but you also don’t want your kid to be bullied :/
  • We had a top two girl named when DD was born and we used the one DH loved (Kenzie), so if it's a girl we will probably go with the one I loved (Riley)...Boys names I saved our list from last time but we won't really talk about it til we know. Even then we will probably go into it with a top 2 and decide then.

8/18: Our daughter kicked open heart surgery ass
2/19: We lost our son to Prader-Willi/Paradoxical Vocal Cord/ Noonans at 6wks old
    4/26/2020: EDD for baby #3!!!
  • @smallbutmighty77 I have a friend about to have a Riley baby girl  :)
  • My 3 year old named my the baby- who she “knows is a boy”- Cohen. So we call the baby coco.
  • Opinions on giving your baby a name that doesn’t reflect your heritage whatsoever? I.e An Irish name when this baby will be 0% Irish.
  • etnyahetnyah member
@ThePax89 I don't think heritage matters unless you want it to. I wouldn't really care about it either, except non-Norwegian names can be difficult to pronounce for my family members who aren't as steady in English. That said, two of the boy names we've considered are Henry and Max, which are not Scandinavian names at all, but easy to pronounce for native Norwegian speakers.
