@jessier19 I love Lionel/Leo, but my husbands family is Argentinian/Paraguayan and they would totally think we named him after Messi. I think his grandmother would weep tears of joy lol. Before I met my husband I knew who Messi was, but never would have thought you’d named your kid after him. Especially after his abysmal World Cup showing lol.
@jessier19 Another reason I’m not sold on Vicente is because we’re Mexican American/Mexican and everyone is going to think the name is for the singer Vicente Fernandez, that was MILs first reaction.
@jessier19 my husband would be ecstatic if I let him name our first born after Messi (2 crazy American soccer fans here) but I like the name Lionel/Leo regardless.
We are also Team Green but pretty set on a boy name. James Charles after both our grandfathers (his: James, also husband's middle name and mine: JC and Charles).
For girls I have always loved Lilyana Sue (initials would be LSD, too bad or not a big deal?) Sue is my middle name and I was named after my Aunt Linda Sue, so it's top choice for girl middle name. We also like Adelaide, I like Kellyn (or Kellon for a boy but DH is not a fan)
My kids all have uncommon names, and that is what my husband loves. His suggestions are always way out there. I am starting to think that I will just have to agree to one and find a nickname that I love.
@vanessa88 I'm in the same french/english boat and it is way harder than I imagined. The venn diagram of what sounds good, what I like and what DH likes has very little overlap going on.
Our frontrunner for a girl is Annaliese and DH has suggested Violet as the middle name. For a boy we don't have a clear frontrunner. We've most recently thrown around Gabriel Thomas. It's hard!
Is anyone else doing something other than just the father's last name? We are leaning towards hyphenating but can't agree on order. And that's probably something we should decide before first names!
@becks_726 babys getting my last name only. Dhs last name was his fathers adopted last name.. so is fine with mine and im the last one with mine so it gets to keep on going
Girls: I like the name Gertrude, named after my grandma. I also like Enid. For boys, I'm lost. Ernest is kinda neat, and I also like Arthur.
If I have more kids after this one, though, I'll have to come up with a new crop of names. Gertrude and Ernest can't be siblings (DH already jokes about having 'Gert and Ernie'), and Enid is a character from Arthurian legend, so an Arthur and an Enid would make it seem like I'm some kind of medievalist. Sigh.
@becks_726 we thought about hyphenating for a split second, but we both have long, complicated last names so we figured we’d spare the poor kid. Instead s/he’ll have my husband’s last name, and my last name as a middle name. I figured I’d let my husband have this one, since he’s an only child from a tiny family. My family name won’t die out anytime soon.

@grebretso we've considered that too but I think our last names actually sound nice together. (And I'm stubborn af.) Will you be giving just the one middle name?
@becks_726 Yep, just one middle name. I’m not big on middle names at all (no one in my family has one) and would prefer not to have one, but it’s the only way I can get my last name in there that makes sense to me.

@becks_726 we’re planning on giving our kid a hyphenated last name. My name is 2 syllables and his is sort of 1.5 (Cohen) so I’m hoping that won’t be too much of a mouthful.
Haha @kayjay44 I have to spell my name out all the time! If I had taken my husband’s name I would have still had to though, his is way worse than mine!
DS born 2/18/2019 DD born 4/1/2023 Baby #3 EDD 11/21/2024
@becks_726 yeah, in our case having mine first is just easier to say. Somehow, I feel like if it’s mine then his they blend and it comes out smoothly, whereas if it’s his then mine they feel like a mouthful
We don't know what we're having yet, but my husband's family has this tradition that all boys have the middle name Evans and all girls have the middle name Elizabeth. That just so happens to be my middle name, so I'm cool with that. My picks for boy first names are Ronnie (my dad's name), Samuel (because he would be the child I've prayed for), Benjamin (just because) or Wyatt (I have a thing about westerns and wyatt earp). My picks for girl first names are Madison (family name), Charlotte (my 70 year old mother's name), Sophie, or Evelyn. All of our friends lately have had girls. We have an Eloise, Lillian, Harper, Maggie, and Hannah. So those are all out. My husband is Korean and adopted, so this baby will be the first blood relative that he's ever met!
I went from one easy last name to another easy last name. You’d think it’d be hard to fuck up Morris but our Tv Guide always came as Mooris back in the day.
DD decided I am having a girl and her name will be Amelia.
I’m not looking forward to the naming process, DH and I couldn’t agree last time so it came down to me throwing down the “I birthed her” card and naming her 2 days after she was born.
Names that my husband has unironically suggested for our child include: Hypatia, Theodrick, Thales, Pliny (“the youngest!” he declared with glee), Perseus, Tycho, Ptolemy, Aeolus, Theseus.
It’s a miracle that we’re moving toward some small consensus, because most of his preferred names sound to me like highly creative forms of child abuse.
We had a top two girl named when DD was born and we used the one DH loved (Kenzie), so if it's a girl we will probably go with the one I loved (Riley)...Boys names I saved our list from last time but we won't really talk about it til we know. Even then we will probably go into it with a top 2 and decide then.

@ThePax89 I don't think heritage matters unless you want it to. I wouldn't really care about it either, except non-Norwegian names can be difficult to pronounce for my family members who aren't as steady in English. That said, two of the boy names we've considered are Henry and Max, which are not Scandinavian names at all, but easy to pronounce for native Norwegian speakers.

Re: What’s your name man? THE NAME THREAD
Girls names are iffy. Maeve and Quin are runners. Middle name: Mason.
But seriously. How we named 2 kids already is beyond me. And heaven help us if this ones a boy.
