It's Labor Time!

Re: It's Labor Time!

  • Thanks @hillbillywife! after almost 12 hrs of Cervadil ...ouch... contractions but I can tell this is probably nothing compared to whats to come. Just enough to keep me from sleeping, well that and all these monitors that keep losing connection and alarming. The nurse told me I should have my baby by 10pm. Ugh that's 18 hrs from now.

  • aw sorry @babybakie! I hope you progressed more over night!

Contractions for a couple hours starting at midnight. Was woken up by a contraction that went down to my vagina, to my upper legs, and around my back. I fell asleep so they obviously fizzled, lol. Have some brownish/yellow mucousy discharge I'm dealing with that has flecks of brown blood in it, and some cramps. Hopefully labor holds off until Monday morning or starts without a doubt in the next 1-2 hours because my MIL is going out of town and will be hours away with no service until Monday afternoon.
  • Induction morning ladies!! Yay!

@babybakie hoping things have progressed for you!
  • @SmashJam is MIL the designated kid watcher while you are in the hospital? or are you just trying to avoid her wrath if she misses it? The former right? Otherwise I would totally quote my husband and say "sucks to suck" shouldn't have scheduled a trip so close to EDD

AFM update from last night is basically no progress.  1.5 CM 60% (? neither of us remember exactly) and -2 station.  So...sorry for everyone having identical symptoms...but at least in my case not much going on and everyone is confident I'll make it to my CS on Tuesday but to call if anything changes.

  • @gingerbride26 yeah she is designated baby watcher while in the hospital. Honestly, my BIL and SIL could do it for a day but then DH would have to go home and be with him at night, which he doesn't really want to do. Or, assuming things go well, I'd just ask to be discharged ASAP and we'd all be home, which I'm definitely not against. DH just wants the peace and quiet of not being at home with a toddler to adjust to the first few days of newborn, so he's not stoked on going home quickly. It wouldn't be so bad if she would have service, she would just come back. But she won't have service or internet or anything. She won't even know it happens (if it does).

Glad you are gonna make it to your c-section on Tuesday. I remember at the beginning of July I was thinking, holy shit how are those of us at the end of the month gonna make it so long?!?! I was so jealous (still am) of those holding their outside babies. But its gonna be here so soon-my due date is next week too!
  • @SmashJam gotcha.  Hope it works out.  Sounds like a good excuse to sit on the couch with your feet up all weekend if DH wants to stall things as well ;-)

Totally get the stress of arrangements for adult responsibilities while we're in the hospital. They scheduled the counter install for the day after my c-section >_< so DH will be stuck at the house babysitting contractors while i'm 1st real day with a newborn at the hospital - BUT my SIL was able to take a half day at work so she's supposed to come sit with me in the hospital and help with lifting/diapers. So trying to be positive - SIL is way better than MIL and counters will be in before I get discharged.

  • @elizabethrn87 Good luck!!! I hope it's going well!!! Oh @smashjam good luck, I hope your timing works out the way you need!! Came in 2pm yesterday, not responding too quickly to induction. So far Dialated 2.5 cm from cervadil and was having contractions.  No pitocin bc not dialated enough so there's the balloon thing working now.  Anyway I had the epidural already so I got a two hour nap from 11am to now. Dr and nurses say Baby will be here today or tomorrow.  Been a bit rough and long so far but epidural is amazing and it feels so great to finally sleep. I felt like a quitter to get it so soon before serious pain, but nurse recommended because I was having some anxiety over the long road still ahead and it was a great decision so far since i feel so comfortable. Back to my nap to gear up for later when things start to het going. Good luck ladies. I am thinking of you all.
  • @babybakie don't feel like a quitter! I jumped on the epidural as soon as my nurse offered! I called out to ask for gas and when she came in she asked if I wanted the epidural and I was all over it lol .Things were just starting to get real for me at that point but I went quick and had stacking contractions early with my twins so I wanted to be prepared. Good luck!

  • @babybakie - I’m only a 2 also currently but my pitocin contractions have started picking up ( on a 12 for the pit currently). I’m considering the epidural sooner rather than later. I’m going to try hard to hold out until I’m a 4. We will see
  • Good luck @elizabethrn87 @babybakie ! Ugh the epidural itchiness was the absolute worst for me both times! With my first they put Benadryl in my IV and it knocked me out until it was time to push. With my second they only gave me oral Benadryl and it didn’t stop the itchiness much. Get some rest while you can!
  • @babybakie Please don't use guilt and epidural in the same sentence! Personally, I was terrified of the needle and was anti-epi for that reason alone - I accepted a stodal so i could sleep and had no qualms about that.  So I think you're more bad ass than me for facing that needle :-P

@gingerbride26 OMG I am so scared of the needle. However, I'm going to power through because I hear it's worth it. Good thing it goes into my back so I can just tell the nurse and anesthesiologist to just not let me see it at any point and we'll be ok. I might get a bit lightheaded though so we'll see.
  • Good luck @babybakie, you're almost there! Take a nap and hopefully once you wake up it will be pushing time <3

  • @nimmle I was going to face my fear this time for the c-section since a spinal block is basically an epi turned up a notch - but then they decided I was too high risk for an epi or spinal because of my history of bleeding - so i totally dodged that bullet again! Totally not ashamed at all to be relieved lol

  • Hey guys - I feel like I’m having strong Braxton Hicks mixed with periodic “real labour” contractions (they feel different - more painful and cramps, and I feel them in my hips as well, where as the strong Braxton’s are not painful and just a strong, intense tightening).  Has his happened to anybody else? And should I be timing the Braxton Hicks with the regular contractions?  Or should I ignore the Braxton Hicks? Blarg or should I just ignore this altogether until things become more clear... probably that option but it’s so hard to ignore things at this point!!

  • @canucklehead123 the strong BH mixed with the more pain and cramps is exactly what my early labor cramps feel like. My doc told me to ignore everything that wouldn't slow me down and to not even bother to time them if I could go about my business. Obviously there are people who would be exceptions to that rule, but I feel like if you have to stop what you are doing for a minute or breathe through them, then you should time them, and just try and see if they get any worse than what you have now. I have had cramps like that twice this week and fizzled into nothing! So lame.
  • @canucklehead123 I’d probably only time/count the painful ones, from my experience real contractions always had at least some level of pain to them, even if it was just a 1 on the scale of 1-10. BH on the other hand were just tightening and feeling short of breath for me. I hope this is it for you!
  • Thanks @zande2016 - I’ll just keep trucking - see if this turns into anything!

  • The epidural is a great thing when it works. I went without it this last time just to see if I could and to avoid the complications I had from it before. No matter how baby comes out, it's an amazing accomplishment.
@canucklehead123 my early labor contractions were like BH plus sporadic mild cramping. The cramping got more intense throughout the day and I started timing them. Needing to stop to breathe through them didn't happen for me until I was already at the hospital and at like 8cm. At home I was still sweeping the floor and talking and doing stuff through the contractions, rocking as needed.

  • @flockofmoosen3 I knew there would be someone who didn't have the horrible pain (or was extremely tolerant of what horrible pain was!)! It's my DH's fear that since I've done this three times if I labor at home I won't know its bad until we're rushing our butts out the door and i'm holding the baby in lol. I'm like, meh I knew when it hurt last time and still had plenty of time before baby, we'll be fine!

@smashjam yeah I kept expecting the pain to get worse, but it was only hard for me at the very end when I was at 9/10cm after they broke my water and it only took about 10 minutes before baby was out. With my first I had excruciating hip pain for 4+ hours straight (half failed spinal) and I thought I would be contending with pain similar to that for much longer than how it actually went down. During the first contraction after they broke my water I called out for the epidural but changed my mind when the contraction was over and I knew I was at 10cm with a lip. I was like, I can do this! It did hurt, but I didn't have any back labor and since I expected worse I was able to handle what I got.

ETA: the doctor did say that if I hadn't called and she didn't tell me to come in, I might have had the baby at home or in the car.

  • @SmashJam @flockofmoosen3 That’s exactly how I feel when I’m in labor! I am good to go until the very end right when it’s time for me to push lol Both labors for me have been long but bearable. Like, it hurts but it doesn’t HURT. Even my nurses are shocked by how I labor. My nurse this time didn’t think I was actually ready to push because I wasn’t screaming lol

  • No progression - just fizzled out and I didn’t get woken from sleep or anything... dang!!! I hope these false labour episodes are doing something to my cervix at least!  Getting antsy now.  I hope I shall be so lucky to have relatively painless labours like you ladies (I’m not holding my breath though lol)!!

@canucklehead123 Girl, I feel ya. Last night I had major cramping, turned out it was just gas and the big D. Hoping that the D is a sign that things are progressing and my body is preparing. I'm so done and ready for this baby to get here.
  • @canucklehead123 FX that even though they didn’t turn into something today that they are doing their job and helping you dilate and efface. I’m pretty sure I was having mild contractions for a day or so before they turned into real labor so hopefully you get there soon!
  • @nimmle I had Indian food last night, in the hopes of stimulating some big D... lol - that didn’t even work.  Wtf!!!  Usually works like a charm when I’m not pregnant...

  • Fingers crossed @nimmle!  I’ll be booking mine at my appointment tomorrow if labour hasn’t started by then.

  • May we all be so lucky to have labors like @flockofmoosen3 and @kmac103

@nimmle and @canucklehead123 I just scheduled my induction as well, and though I do very much hope she’ll make an appearance before then, it is pretty nice to have a “no later then” date defined! I felt a lot of pressure, though, when I realized I was now in control of her future birthday! Hopefully she’s ok with Aug 2 instead of Aug 6 (the two days my preferred doctor would be on call, haha)!
  • so jealous of all your scheduled inductions!
  • had a membrane sweep yesterday at 40+1 and was crampy all day and night.  was up pretty much every hour last night per usual to pee but then around 4am started getting REALLY crampy. 5am woke up and decided to take a bath and around 6am started to time what I think are contractions.
so frustrating because everyone says they start in your back. I jjust get a really bad period cramp and theyve been like 8 mins apart lasting for 60 seconds.
    so frustrating not knowing!
  • @babygagnon2018 mine don't start in the back, before my painful contractions that do happen in the back start, I get what I would describe as incredibly intense period cramps. Could be something starting, hope they don't fizzle out!
