Re: Randoms 5/3

  • @pumpkinpancake she’s 18 months, which is sooner than we made the switch with DD1 but I think she’s ready. With DD1 she was 2 and it was a couple months after DD2 was born, so she only had a few weeks to forget it was “her” crib and we did have a couple minor meltdowns over it. I’m worrying that I may have over-corrected, but I think it’ll be ok.

I know I'm not super active, so I hope none is upset about my opinion... but I don't want to go to fb. I likely won't. I joined fb with a private bump group, but that was after a year of the private group, which was almost 2 years of friendship. I don't really love quickly with personal info. I was with @SawyerRichardson in Jan17 and left at about 20w because that group was so meangirl cliquey. Ugh. And I know people think TTGP girls are like that - nope. I was TTGP, they were new, and way more intense than I've ever seen.
I agree that having others with you those first months are critical though, so I hope not everyone leaves.

@coffee-saur Late, but, what spray did you use on the floor for your cat? I have an area my cat messed up but want to clean it well before we recarpet...  jic.

@DunkinDecaf That room is lovely! I hope tonight goes well.

We have a lot of changes happening, moving (to interim housing,) then baby, then moving again (permenant.) I was thinking of moving DS to a toddler bed after the final move, he'll be 2 then. Do you think that's too much? He's a rather laid back guy but I'm afraid he'll be able to climb out then or shortly thereafter. Thoughts?

@DunkinDecaf Good luck tonight! My DD is 15 months right now so I've been starting to think about when the right time will be to switch her over. Probably not for a couple more months though.

ETA - @Mylitta I thought your username looked familiar!
  • I don’t plan on moving DS to a toddler bed. I’m just getting another covertable crib. He’ll be 22 months when baby is born. If I was going to move him, I’d want to do it at least a month or two before October so he’s all settled beforehand. And I just don’t see him being ready in a few months. I’m pretty certain the only reason he actually sleeps is because his crib physically keeps him from doing anything else. He’d be all over his room playing around if given the option.
  • @SweetSweetTooth you can be logged into one account on the browser and another on the app. DH used to have 2 accounts, one for family and one for friends, and he did that.
  • We are moving DD to a twin bed in a few months - she’s currently a converted crib with a side rail. So hopefully that was the worst transition and going to a bed will feel similar for her. We need the crib for her brother, and she actually is very excited to let him use it. Crisis averted so far. Right now she is psyched to “do things” for her little brother.

I used to see a daily update on the app on baby’s size comparison but that disappeared. Now it’s just the weekly update. Do the daily ones stop when you hit a certain week?

Also, I really want a pregnancy body pillow to sleep with. Any recommendations?? Do you prefer one that just goes in front of you or ones that wrap all the way around the body?

@Mylitta it's called Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength Strain & Odor Eliminator. Their 'motto' is 'If it's gross, it's gone.' And it really does! It takes care of smell really well!
ETA: I get it off of Amazon.com.

  • We had to put a lock on DSs room when we transitioned to a big boy bed. He would not stay in his bed/room for anything and just mowed down any attempt at baby gates (including ones we drilled into the wall!). And his bedroom is at the top of a flight of stairs so while I felt like a horrible person locking him in his room it was the only option we had to keep him safe. (And we would unlock the door as soon as he was asleep)

Thankfully it didn’t take too long for him to figure it out and now he locks himself in his room (he locks the door before closing it since it’s on the outside) when he wants to cause trouble as he knows it prolongs the amount of time it takes to get to him!

  • @coffee-saur that sounds amazing. As much as our dogs would hate it, I miss the once in awhile good summer storm / thunderstorm. We don't get them here.

Boggled that there's still not a better alternative so we're stuck between FB and TheBump. I feel like there must be something in the intermediary space, but I can't think of anything. With any luck, Bapple (our ridiculous baby name...thanks Minions) will have no social media footprint for many years - torn between that and a private IG account to share with family since we're so far away.
  • Late catching up. @mytrueloves and @purplegoldfish2 there are a couple of different types of ovarian cysts. Simple cysts are fluid filled, and what Purple was talking about. They form monthly with your cycle and usually resolve on their own, but can keep growing and rupture. The other are called Dermoid cysts. They are technically a teratoma (benign tumor) that develop on the ovaries and tend to have things like hair and skin cells inside them (don’t google, they look disgusting!). Dermoid cysts are usually slow growing though, so if you had one if would have likely showed up on your check 5 weeks ago.

  • Glad to hear it’s getting better!

  • @coffe-saur- Thunderstorms are awesome - especially under a wide open midwestern sky.
  • RE Facebook.  My Mothers of Multiples club has been looking for another forum to use.  Facebook was giving us problems for a while so there were other options that were investigated and they all had issues.  There really isn’t a great option out there, unfortunately. We ended up staying on Facebook for that because even with the issues, it was still the best option.  Has anybody used Big Tent?  They were on there for a while, but hated it.  I can ask what the issues were if none of us have used it. It may have had to do with events, which we wouldn’t need, but they very much do.

I'm also a nonFB user.  I lost my Jan16 group to FB about 6 months ago.  I will definitely be sticking around for anyone who doesn't want to use FB  :)
  • Thunderstorms are my favorite, especially when I don't want to be outside.

I know my mountain biking group used a forum, but I'm not sure the details. It looks like it's hosted on phpbb dot com
  • I miss thunderstorms!! Oklahoma had the best, and Colorado has no good ones. I definitely miss "porch-sittin" and watching the rain.
  • We can get some pretty incredible thunderstorms. It can freak the kids out, so we try and make it seem fun and exciting, as long as you're  safe. It was hilarious how the dog had a blast chasing the hail balls, cuz our last rain we had she'd been terrified! And it had been only rain with no hail or thunder!
We collected a cup full of the bigger hail balls and DS took em to school to show the class.

  • I may be in the minority here, but not a huge fan of thunderstorms. The minor ones, yeah ok they're fine, and sometimes soothing. But we've had some gnarly ones recently where they are so loud and shake the whole house and you have to unplug everything at 2 am. (ALWAYS overnight). And then then the city keeps flooding with them, so that sucks too. Flood waters are nasty, guys. That's not rain water... It's poop water with fire ants floating around.

When I lived in OKC 7-8 yrs ago, t-storms = hail= massive car damage, plus tornados.

Never really had thunderstorms growing up in Anchorage so when I moved to TX in 6th grade it was a huge shock haha.
  • Yikes @jemmerjams! That doesn't sound like fun! Usually, there is very little damage done here. There has been flooding twice that I can remember, around here, but no poop water! I mean, except for maybe fertilizer off of a field.

  • My area floods really easily, which is the only downside to long lasting or heavy rain.
  • @jemmerjams Yes, when we lived outside Houston the first few thunderstorms where cool. Once they’re a nearly daily occurrance, it’s just annoying. I don’t understand how a city that gets that much rain year after year still floods constantly. You’d think someone would have thought about that when they built.

+1 for loving thunderstorms. As a kid the whole family would sit out on the front porch and watch them on summer evenings while eating ice cream. Southern OH gets some amazing summer thunderstorms!
  • Yeah I'm not a fan of tornados or hail, but I miss a good thunder and lightning show.
  • @tinattt23 the coverage on that topic during Harvey (and the tax day 2016 flood, and the memorial day /october 2015 floods) was pretty much that. Also a lot of "why did developers build houses in a flood plain" etc. The unfortunate fact is that we've had like 2 500+ year storms in 2 years. I think Harvey was an 800 year?? My house is yards away from the 100 yr flood plain, but we we're lucky and didn't flood because our house is still a couple feet higher than the max water height that the bayou saw.

But yeah, parts of the city flood at least once a year from a heavy rain storm. It's crazy.
  • @mamat2be I love my snoogle! This is my first and last pregnancy and I definitely splurged on the more expensive one. It has made such a difference in how much sleep I get. And is open on one side to my husband and I can still snuggle.

And re: the Facebook group, I feel that I would definitely be more active on it than on here. I find this app hard to keep up with all the goings on. Half the time it doesn’t work and I have to log in a million times before it lets me reply to things and I end up just giving up.
  • @jemmerjams We only lived there 9 months, but we were there (Sugar Land) during the 2016 storms. Luckily we’d left before Harvey.
