I mean, I'm sure most moms would be grateful to have their husband's personal commentary on their hygiene neatly giftwrapped and presented to them... Much safer to stick with, like, a new Swiffer or a vacuum cleaner or something.
Ha! What cracks me up here is that DH and I totally give each other accidentally-insulting gifts. I bought him a handheld Dyson for a birthday one year, and he recently got me a new ultrasonic toothbrush. We're totally into utilitarian gifts, why not?
But real talk: DH said he wanted to buy me a nice gift for mothers day...so I let him know that I took care of it already. I wanted a specific monogrammed bag, so I just bought it myself and I'll let him take all of the credit. DH isn't interested in stuff like that, so for fathers day I'm taking him to a local Lego exhibit and maybe a movie at Alamo Drafthouse.
... may be starting to house hunt. Geesh i do not know if i'm ready for this on top of being pg.
YOU CAN DO IT! I'm flying out to house hunt next Thursday, and plan on putting in an offer this time next week. It'll be a solo adventure, so I hope DH makes a list of personal concerns so I don't forget details immediately. It'll be fun though. When he moved to Arkansas I couldn't house hunt with him, so he bought a house and I loved it. When moving to Kansas we hunted together and fell in love with the same house -easy. I hope I pick a winner! FX for favorable buyers markets

I’m hoping to be house hunting soon too. Making my husband paint a bathroom today to that end.
Awesome! I dearly hope that our next house doesn’t *need* painting, but I’m sure I’ll paint something to avoid a sea of beige (last night I realized that everything facing the TV was the same beige/cream; the walls, couch, throw blankets, one dog, my zippered fleece, DH’s shirt. It was alarming & hilarious).
I want to do a wall-paper-accent wall this time.

@echo-charlietango Are you going to actually be buying a house for your stay in AL? Impressive Also...you're going to be in Montgomery, right? I hear it's a very up-and-coming city.
My house story: I went house-hunting with my MIL right when my kid hit the four-month sleep regression and my husband was on a TDY. I picked the house out after seeing maybe four or five...H still raves about what a good choice I made! We moved two months later, and luckily it wasn't super difficult with a 6 month-old. The biggest thing was the drive from Vegas to Alabama, but we took our good sweet time and ended up driving only 6ish hours each day.

I moved at 8 months pregnant and recovering from an appendectomy last time and survived! In fact it was sort of nice to “nest” with a totally blank slate and settle in and bring our baby home to our own (and first owned) home!

Yes & yep! We’re building our rental empire, and I’m picking the next property. We were going to live on Maxwell, but the housing is poop. There are a lot of rad houses with mortgages that are well under BAH, so we’re going that route because we’re good at buying houses and interviewing property managers.
If I choose a move-in-ready house I’ll move a week or so before DH. He can survive in Kansas with the dogs and an air mattress, and I can receive our HHG if we can have a door-to-door PCS. FX!
I’ll find cool stuff for us to do when you guys come up to Montgomery for a day trip I’m already thinking gyros for lunch and mocktails at our place.

This is our first purchased home but we really should have bought in Vegas too, because the market really exploded while we were there. H didn’t want to do the remote rental thing initially, but now he’s getting more comfortable with the idea. He wants to get out after his commitment is up and become a priest, and he anticipates having a whole lot less money than his military salary, but a mostly-paid-for house will at least help. We live in a very nice neighborhood that you can’t find many rentals in, so we figure if we rent to military only and have a management company take care of the leasing stuff it shouldn’t be too bad.

@PensiveCrayon Yes! Property managers are so worth it. Usually they charge 10 percent, but they do all of the work. We did one eviction ourselves in Arkansas and immeadately learned the value of a good manager (because if we had one then, then we probably wouldn’t have had that tenant in the first place). Pro tip: when looking for a property manager, pretend you’re a renter -ask FB for recommendations from that angle, and call PMs to grade their attitude/response time/etc.
DH and I are definitely building our empire for retirement cash flow (buying houses near military schools), and sounds like you guys are in a good place to rent your house too
