My sister is planning on five @DDRRT1982!  They currently have one.
  • Has anyone tried Biogaia for colic?
  • Loading the player...
  • Anyone have any tips on giving baby oral meds?  N has thrush (how?!) and the minute the medicine goes in her mouth, she spits it right back out!  I wonder if it's enough that the medicine is at least coating her tongue, which is the only part of her that's showing symptoms.
  • @ashtuesday put the syringe in the cheek, makes it harder to spit out, the tongue can't force it out if you do it that way.
  • @ashtuesday Yes, syringe in cheek and then after you dispense the meds, hold her mouth shut for a second to trigger a swallow.
  • @ashtuesday.  You can also use a syringe to administer medicine when baby has a pacifier in his or her mouth. Just drip it in on the side next to the pacifier while they suck.  NICU RNs taught me that trick.
  • @sassypants2010 @megpeg thanks again for sharing your experiences with your gallstones.
I went to see my doctor and they did a sonogram and some other tests. It all came back normal.
I needed an esophagram yesterday for an unrelated matter (I had a lapband done 4 years ago and we were checking to make sure it stayed in place) and my surgeon told me he sees an air pocket in the exact place I’m feeling the pain.
Heres hoping he’s right and it’s just really mean gas pain.
My doctor has ordered a CT scan which is scheduled for this afternoon. I’m still debating if I should go or not.....
  • @paigew123 I hope it is just that!

  • @ashtuesday, there’s a few different ways. Putting it in the cheek helps but mine still spits it out. I found that doing it while they sleep helps because they’re not as aware of the taste. Also like @heatherandmatt26 posted, there’s a couple products designed to dispense medicine- you can get them at Walmart, Target, babies r us (if yours is still open). They come shaped either like a tiny baby bottle or like a pacifier. I would still use the tiny measuring syringe that the pharmacy provides then stick the medicine in the dispenser to ensure correct dosage. Btw, if you’re still BF’ing, you’ll need to be treated also to prevent passing the thrush back to N after his treatment is complete. We had a thrush diagnosis last week and DD’s is mostly cleared up since the weekend.

Also, good luck @paigew123 with your testing- hopefully they’ll find the source and you’ll get some relief!
  • Here’s a random for you- our toddler for two weeks now unplugs her lamp light, camera, and fan after we tuck her in and leave her for bedtime.  The other night when DH went back up to plug the camera in, she had actually pulled down the camera from the shelf and was holding it in her sleep!?  Face palm.  We tell her every night not to touch the plugs and nope.
  • Lol, she doesn't want you guys spying on her.

@becausescience Just saw this--sorry! Was out a few days because my MIL was here. It went well! Not waking up as much for the little noises, which is huge.

@knuttyplus2 I totally get what you're saying. When my MIL was here she helped so much but she kept lying about following our guidelines. Like she didn't want to piss me off so instead of being honest when she screwed something up she told me she did it right. The NICU told us because of the severe growth restriction that we HAD to force them to sleep a certain amount because their heads are small and their brains grow when they sleep. In the morning I came out I found out the babies had been up for 2 hours! And then they wouldn't go down for their morning nap because they weren't put down right away after eating. Like she is just sitting with them awake, staring at them for hours before I get up. Thank you for doing a night shift, yes I get they're cute and you're in love with your grandsons, but I want them to be smart and healthy--not just cute And one got a rash on his neck because she didn't dry the drool and spit up. And the diaper rash came back on the other one because she wasn't drying his butt enough. And she picked them up by their shoulders all the time without supporting their heads and butts at all. Like, that may be OK for kids, but not these tiny babies. I corrected her on all this 400 times and she was still doing it wrong the day she left. I don't want to seem ungrateful, but at a certain point when you are constantly correcting people and they still get it all wrong, you have to wonder how worth it the help is. And then they think you are going overboard because their kids "turned out fine" and it's like you constantly have to be a bitch to get basic things done correctly, which can be really frustrating. We're never going to find relatives as attentive as we are... Sorry for the rant, I've been holding it in all week lol. I hope you get some rest soon and that your kids get off the monitors to hopefully make it all a bit easier!

  • Has anyone's little one had issues with pooping? Nate is struggling/straining so hard to poop. His face turns red and he holds his breath and pushes so hard. He's started screaming and crying through his poops and I don't know what to do. They also smell awful and I'm breastfeeding. My husband said they smell acidic. I gave him some mylicom a few minutes ago but wanted to get some more advice. If it doesn't get better over the weekend I'm going to take him to the doctor
  • @mccurleya

My babe does the same thing. Grunts and cries, turns all red to poop and/or to pass gas. For sure my little man is gassy. I bought Biogaia, a probiotic to see if that will help.

At times Charlie will get uncomfortable when he’s gassy and red faced too.  Usually bicycle legs helps him.  Also, when my daughter switched from breast milk to formula she didn’t poop for over a week.  The doctor had just try inserting the tip of a thermometer to help.  Eventually we used a suppository to help clear her out.
  • @mmom3 bicycles don't help :( I try that, pushing his legs up and down at the same time, and rubbing his tummy. He seems to be in so much pain.. I hate it for him.
  • @mccurleya we had the same issue it was like nothing could calm him down and it would keep him from really sleeping well.  A warm bath helped but we started a probiotic as well. My mom recommended gerber soothe drops and so far they seem to be working (we started them on Sunday).  Also got them approved by the pediatrician even though they are OTC.
  • @sgrn18 Yes! He's not sleeping much anymore. Waking every 30m-an hour. It's taking it's toll on me too. I may look into these probiotics
  • @mccurleya we’ve had the same issue with DS since we came home from the hospital. He actually had trouble even pooping on his own and had to do suppositories every other day to get him to poop. He was also having awful pain from gas and screaming his head off about an hour or so after feeding. We started mylicon drops last week and they helped a little. We have since switched to gripe water and that seems to be helping. He actually has pooped two days in a row in his own-which hasn’t happened before-since we started the gripe water! However whenever I change him I make it a habit to do bicycle kicks and push his legs to his chest. I try to be proactive with that and not wait for him to start screaming. Hopefully you find something that helps!
  • @bexster05 thank you! I'm going to try to bicycle and pump his legs when I change him now too. Maybe that plus the mylicom will be beneficial.
  • @mccurleya this is my third baby and all of mine have had issues. We use the rectal thermometer and just insert it a little to help them go.

  • I'm beginning to wonder if it's the vitamin D I'm taking. The issues started around the same time I started those.
  • So, my mom just called me and was telling me she was at the salon I used to work at getting her nails done and the nail tech and stylists were telling her that my SIL(MH’s brothers wife) was there getting her hair cut yesterday. They were talking with her about Declan and she kept calling him a differerent name like deshaun or maybe just majorly mispronouncing his name. They told her she was saying it wrong and she argued with them! She said she would know because it’s her nephew.
It is what it is I know it’s a newer name but My biggest issue is that Sunday is his baptism and her and my BIL are the godparents and she doesn’t even know his name.

  • @mmom3 I am going to her sons hockey game, to lunch and bowling with her tomorrow hopefully she can pick it up from that.

  • @megpeg - Sheesh. That’d bug me for sure! Hopefully she picks up on all your hints!
  • Just found out our new apartment building has a case of bed bugs. Not sure which unit. I'm going to have a heart attack I hate Cincinnati right now :'(

This, combined with lice, are my worst nightmares.  I'd be spraying and applying all the preventative things.
  • We just can't catch a break.  We went to see the doctor today to ensure caffeine levels remain where they should be with their weight gain to avoid apnea episodes.  Ended up having a conversation about whether Matt should be admitted to the hospital.  He's had a wicked cough since Sunday and we thought it was a cold.  Thankfully it's not RSV but he has inflamed airways.  We opted for home treatment for now using steroids and a nebulizer with close monitoring.  Good grief these kids deserve to be healthy!! And praying twin brother doesn't catch the same thing. My hands are looking like chopped liver from all of the handwashing.  Prayers requested!!
  • @knuttyplus2 prayers sent!

    @knuttyplus2 Sending prayers!
  • Many prayers!!  <3
  • @knuttyplus2 - praying for you guys! That stuff just wears on you after a while, I’m sure.
  • Poor kiddos, praying everyone stays safe and healthy.
  • Prayers for your family @knuttyplus2! @megpeg, how did it go with your SIL? @heatherandmatt26, I think most pest services places will offer a free inspection of your unit. Or you can get a service just in case and have them inspect too.
  • @maelily15 it was ok. Truth be told she irritates me anyway because she’s very Braggy about everything. The funny thing is my brother in law kept saying it while he was holding him. Hopefully she gets it right tomorrow
