Thanks all for your suggestions! @Sarafuss That is part of my problem....I feel like all of the ultra-feminine names start with an "A"
@comealongponds We are waiting to officially decide when she gets here but we are leaning towards her first name being Olive, after my great-grandmother....probably should have shared that in the OP (just blame the pregnancy brain )
I kind of like:
-Olive Juliette (Julia was my great-grandmother on my Dad's side so that's pretty cool) -Olive Noelle -Olive Juliana -Olive Theodora -Olive Cecelia -Olive Gabriella -Olive Sienna
If Olive doesn't fit when we meet her, our backup name is Adele Liviana.
Our last name is 1 syllable, hence why I am searching for longer middle names.
@foxbaby2016 I love Olive Juliette or Olive Sienna the most! I always wish I could use the name Juliette or Julia but where my name is Julianne (nn Julie) I feel like it’s a little close. Such pretty names though!
@foxbaby2016 Olive is adorable and I love love love the name Noelle! I think it's such a perfect middle name, it goes so beautifully with so many names! I had my heart set on it as our middle name but my DH has this idea in his mind it's a boys name. His opinion drives me crazy because I find it so beautifully melodic and feminine, i don't get it.
Although I am disappointed because I like the sound of Noelle as a middle better, I think we are going with Gianna Gabrielle. Our last name is also 3 syllables so I'm not 100% happy with it but I like the double G with different sounds. I think baby nick name GG is so cute.
One of the birth story threads I was recently stalking the mom named her baby girl Delaney, which is a new fave of mine now if we ever have another girl (boy this time). Nicknames Del, Laney...its so cute! Just sharing.
@comealongponds I LOVE Theodora but I cannot get my husband on board.
@runsomewhere Yes, Olivia is too popular for our taste...I know it's close but I feel the names are very different in sound and "feel" if that makes sense? Although Olivia tends to flow a lot better with middle names IMO
@babybakie Noelle is one of my favorites as well! I also thought of Olive Brielle last night and I'm kind of liking that also. I love your name choice...and the nickname "GG" is super cute!
@foxbaby2016 Yes! I love Brielle also!! DH vetoed Noelle, Brielle, and Giselle. With Gabrielle, I won't get the nice 2 syllable flow but I do get the nice "elle" sound I love so much.
Someone mentioned Eloise the other day and I love it so much but baby boy will need a boy name lol. Also I swear if anybody else asks me if we have a name I might explode! It's soooo important for people right after they find out what you're having.
@smashjam A girl I know at work (college-age) is Delanie, for an alternative spelling. She is the first person I've heard with that name but I like it, too. I'm always taking the students' names I hear into consideration!
DH is currently most in love with Emily for baby. I don't hate, but don't love it...so I told him I'd give it a fair shot and test it out for a while. He's dying to have a name to call baby instead of Baby Number Three, haha. I think I'd be OK waiting until she's born since I really can't figure out which name I really want yet, but I understand how he feels.
Is anyone planning to call their son by their initials? My husband has his heart set on Joseph for the first name as it is his brother's and grandfather's name. I do not like the nick name Joey, but am maybe ok with Joe. However, some of the middle names we are considering would give the initials J.J. or J.R., which I think could be good. I just don't love Joseph, but am trying to compromise since I pretty much named our first. His name is James Henry, so I am also worried it is a lot of J's. We also have a dog named Jackie and a cat named Javier, lol. Just call us the Duggars.
@limoncat my H’s best friend in high school got called JR by his family even though his first name was an M. JR is a combo of his two middle names. I like it!
@limoncat my DH is an A name but both of his brothers are J names. I didn’t even really think about it until we started talking about names for our little!
@limoncat yes, initials for our LO were going to be the same regardless of boy or girl and the plan had always been to call the kiddo by the initials. We've been calling the baby by the initials H.G. since we decided the names. It helps because we're keeping gender a secret so the whole fam is already used to calling baby by the initials.
@limoncat - I think there are LOTS of people who name their kids names that start with the same letter. Both are strong and common names - I think it's totally fine! I mean, you're probably going to holler the wrong name often, but that would probably happen even if they didn't start with the same letter!
@limoncat I don't see a problem with same first letters. I grew up with same first letter and a similar sounding name to my sister and never thought twice about it
Does anyone have experience using the swipe left/right apps for baby names? My husband wants to try it, but the first one he found doesn't seem to have a great assortment of names in the free version. Before we go pay for the upgraded version, I wanted to ask if ya'll have advice on others! We have Android phones and the one we have now is called babyname.
@MichelleAG05 we used one for a while...I think it's just called Babyname - all one word. We got the free one and at first we liked it, we matched a few names, but as you get deeper into it, the names become really ridiculous. Like I would swipe no 100 times before I got an even remotely normal name that I liked. Maybe I'm just really picky, but the names it was giving us were so bizarre. I don't know if there are any smart apps that take into consideration what you both like and suggest similar names/rule out really different style names, but there should be.
@limoncat my son's name is Jonathan Douglas (after both of his Grandpas) and he goes by JD. It is so fitting for his goofy and confident personality, but I love that he can go by Jonathan or Jon when he gets older (which he does already sometimes at school).
@SmashJam one of my good friends from high school has a Delaney and I love that name! I always feel weird about using a name someone close to me has already used, but I totally would have considered it for the same reasons you listed. I think Lainey is such a cute nickname.

@MichelleAG05 baby center has a baby names app like that. Your H can make an account and then you link them together and you each can like or dislike names and it makes a list of the names you both like. There definitely is a LARGE assortment of names but I had more time to go through names than my h does so I have like 900+ nopes. We were able to make a list of about 20 names from it so I like it!
Thanks @comealongponds - I like this feature! Going through the list now, but a lot of those were on my like list so I would say it works great!
We downloaded Baby Name Together - so far I like it better than Babyname. DH got burned out on babyname, so he hasn't done much in the new app yet, but I'm a little owl faced at some of the names he has liked so far. Definitely no matches yet!
Freaaakkkk... So my h and I had kind of decided on Sawyer for little man’s name and we wanted to use Thomas as the middle name butttt I just realized that it’s essentially the same name as Tom Sawyer except backwards and now I don’t think I want to anymore.. Am I over thinking this?
@hillbillywife it’s a super cute name. I don’t think many people will make the connection...especially considering he’ll mostly be referred to as Sawywr *last name* in most situations.
ETA : I just went to ask my husband his opinion and he said “Tom Sawyer” as soon as I read “Thomas”.
@ashbub714@zombiehoohaa thanks! I had a friend talk me down a bit too and she said something similar that he’s really only going to be known by his first and last names and his middle name is a family name so it’ll be special no matter what people thing. I just don’t want to be one of *those* people. I don’t even know what *those* people are lol.
So I have kind of steered clear of this thread because we have not even begun discussing names is that bad? I have names I like and trying so hard to get DH on board. I so want to use Leigh as a middle name as it has family roots on both sides but he doesn't like it ugh
@lindsayleigh1989 I think you’re good! We’ve sort of put a pin in name hunting for now. My husband has a name he’s pretty stuck on and I like it too but want some other options. We both loved the name years ago but I think I’m just being rebellious since he just latched onto it so much lol
@ashbub714 DH and I latched onto Bernie as a joke...but he wasn't joking! I don't really hate it or anything but I hate be done so early with names. It seems like the minute we found out boy at 19 weeks we knew they name and I don't like the finality of it all, so I keep coming up with new names to consider even though I know its gonna go the way of Bernie.
We did decide on the middle name to be DH's first name, and I think he feels pretty proud about that.
@lindsayleigh1989 no shame! It’s SO HARD to pick a name! And you still have 3 ish months so you’re good! fwiw I love the name Leigh! Maybe with the perfect first name he’ll go for it?
@lindsayleigh1989 We haven't had a serious discussion about names yet either! We waited last time too... DS's name wasn't 100% set until about a week before he was born. It makes me a little antsy but DH feels no urgency to pick names so I'll just be patient.
