Re: Names?!?

  • @foxbaby2016 I think the exact opposite! I feel like girl names are so much easier! Lol my girl list was so much longer than the boy one.

@lindsayleigh1989 How do you feel about Leighton (pronounced Lay-ton) if he isn't totally on board with Leigh?
  • I'm so indecisive and you guys gave great feedback last time so here we go again, modified list:

    Ariana
    Laurel
    Ariella
    Brielle

For a mn we like Harper, Alexis and Althea, last name is 2 syllables, fairly common starts with a K.

  • Ariana Harper and Laurel Alexis are my 2 picks:)

Love Laurel! Second fave is Ariana. I like the middle name Alexis with both  :)
  • @kissableviv and @ashbub714 thanks ladies  <3 DH's front runner is Laurel Alexis.

  • @runsomewhere I love Laurel Harper, Ariella Harper, or your H's pick.

  • @runsomewhere LOVE Laurel. Ariella is my second pick!

    Laurel Alexis
    Ariella Harper
  • @zombiehoohaa and @foxbaby2016 thank you, I was just texting with DH about the name thread and he's firm on loving Laurel Alexis. I think this is our strong front runner!

  • @runsomewhere Laurel Alexis is a great name!

We're stuck on names...currently our top contenders are Amelia, Hailey, and Rosalie. We like the L sound in the middle of the name. If you all have suggestions for other similar names, let's hear it. DD1's name is Isab.ella so it can't be too similar to that. Middle name is set on Bar.bara (MIL).

@flockofmoosen3 I love Rosalie!! Actually I love all your picks that ones just my fav!

    edited for spelling.
  • @flockofmoosen3 I like the way Hailey Barbara sounds! I think with a strong 3 syllable name like Barbara for the middle a 1 or 2 syllable will sound like less of a mouthful.

    +1 for Hailey Barbara!
  • Thanks for the votes on our shortlist of names. I wish we could just settle on one of them. We have a day or so after baby is born to turn in birth certificate forms right??

    Isabella & Julian & and now #3!
  • Haha @flockofmoosen3 yep something like that!
  • @carsonraynee that’s seriously so sweet! I love it!
  • Such a great story @carsonraynee!

I'm starting to veer towards Oliver Luca (G. ->last name initial). I really want an Italian middle name but there are none I like. Luca is becoming quite popular here in the US too and I think it's short and sweet. Plus my dad used to own a house in the countryside in a town named "San Luca". He lost it when he went bankrupt (long sad story) but I have such fond memories of that place. I don't like how my dad's name or even middle name would sound with Oliver - plus as much as I forgave my dad (RIP) for the shit he did when he was alive he wasn't exactly a great person.

Milo is still our other choice but no one in Italy seems to like it. I know it shouldn't matter but it's a block for me. We could do Milo Curtis G (Curtis is DH's middle name and a family name for him).
  • @carsonraynee well, I'm not crying or anything...(insert heart emoji)

  • @carsonraynee That is just so sweet, and I love the name!

@kissableviv I like Oliver Luca, and I think it's lovely that you have such fond memories of a place like that. Isn't family abroad really interesting when you're talking about baby names? H's family didn't like our pick for a boy name because it's a softer name and usually a girls name. I knew they would take issue with it and made a preemptive strike against their eventual claim it was a girl name by listing several prominent men and male athletes in their country with that first name. Now they don't fight me on it and I don't think they are on board, but do see it as more unisex. Really helps our case that it's a World Cup year and one of the guys on the national team has it as a first name so it will be more common to hear it as a male name.
  • @kissableviv I like Oliver Luca too! And the sentimentality behinds Luca! A bit ago I shared that I wanted Thomas as a middle name which is my stepdad’s middle name. It feels really sentimental because my relationship with him is closer than with any other male figure in my family (other than my H of course) and I’m struggling with the idea that I might change his middle name from Thomas to one of the other family names we have (Michael after my maternal grandfather, or Robert which is my dad’s middle name, and his dad’s first name and my DH’s paternal grandfather’s name) My relationship with all of those men, my dad especially isn’t/wasn’t that great and my H never met his grandpa so it feels stupid to use those names. But I’m struggling to get over the Tom Sawyer thing lol.
  • @hillbillywifeHave you considered using your step-dad's first name? I love Sawyer Thomas, but I did mention it to my mom and she said "Tom Sawyer" before I even finished saying Thomas. I still think it's great, but if you can't get past it, maybe the first?
  • @hillbillywife I would go with what means the most to you! It’s so nice to honor a family member. I think when a name feels special to you you’ll know. Sawyer would be the first name? And Thomas the middle? His two names would hardly be used together at the same time anyway so I don’t think anyone would make that connection

I shared that we are going with Jade for the first name, but struggling on a middle name. At first I was thinking it could be just a random name that sounded nice, but I really want to use a family name, especially because we did that for my first. That being said! Which do you (whoever’s reading this :p ) like better...

    Jade Michelle (sisters mn)
Jade Estelle (mine and grandmothers mn)
    Jade Ryan (brother’s mn)

all my siblings are J names so those won’t work with Jade. And I want to use a name from my side because my first has my MILs mn
  • @julianne0 I like jade Estelle! And the fact that it's your mn too.

I thought we had a middle name but it was a j and with Bernie DH was worried that having BJ as initials would be a bad idea. So I came up with Calvin for Cal Ripken, lol, and he loves it. Milo and Felix, both which I love for first names but DH hates (because they are cats) were also nixed. So Bernard Calvin it is!
  • Late to this board as well..

Anyone have children or siblings with the same first initial? We’re not trying to do it on purpose it just so happens we like the name and it sounds good with DS1, just trying to figure out if it’s worth the inevitable Kardashian/Duggar comparisons...

  • @foxbaby2016 I tried that one on dh and he noped it so fast ugh he is way too picky but refuses to give any suggestions

  • @BrittG13 I don't even think of those guys with matching initials! I think its fairly common for people to stick with that theme!
  • @hayhay93 I thought about that too, but his first name is a single syllable and so is our last name so it doesn’t sound right. Boo lol.

@julianne0 correct Sawyer Thomas. The fact that he’ll only be known (for the most part) by his first name is what’s getting me through right now lol. But I’m not going to get too attached yet.

I love all three of your name choices! My DD has my middle name so I’d probably go with Estelle first, but I love the name Ryan for a girl too!
  • @julianne0 I love Jade Ryan. The more girly name with the unisex middle name is super cute together.
  • @julianne0 Jade Ryan would be my choice...super cute!!
  • @BrittG13 me and my siblings are all J’s! There’s 5 of us. My husband and his siblings are all G’s! I love the idea and tried to do it with my own but my first is an L name and there weren’t too many other L names that I loved or weren’t common. No one ever compared us to any famous family or anything. Growing up there were a couple other families in our town who did all J’s as well so I feel like it’s a pretty normal thing to do
  • @julianne0 - Add me to the Jade Ryan crowd, and I'm not typically a fan of traditionally boy names for girls.  But I think Jade Ryan is pretty, while the other 2 seem overly girly to me.

Anyone ever consider giving their child 2 middle names? We have 2 family names that we're torn between (Jeffrey and Britton) and like Aaron or Eli/Elijah for first name, but not definite on first name. My husband has 2 middle names, but my sister says it's "extremely pretentious" to have 2 middle names. So what do you ladies think? Y'all are a great sounding board!
  • @rkk0002 dh and I have a boy's name picked out for when/if we have a little guy and the name includes 2 middle names. I dont see an issue at all!

    Babysizer Geeky Pregnancy Tracker

  • @rkk0002 I wouldn’t do two middle names (just bc of complications when filling out paperwork lol :p ) but I don’t see anything wrong with it. I have a friend who couldn’t decide and went with two middle names and I think it’s fine. They just default to the first one if there’s ever something where only one middle name can be used.
  • My friend's husband has 2 middle names, I feel like it's too much but it's worked out ok for him so go for it if you love the names @rkk0002
  • @rkk0002 we had a girls name picked out with 2 middl3 names and loved it! People thought it was weird but who cares about them. They were both family names and important!

I was shocked to see that Oliver, which is one of our faves, is in the top 10!
