At this rate...college?  Maybe?  I now have a four year old, three year old, one year old, and six week old in my room.  I don't ever hand out sleeping advice.

  • Thank you, @becausescience!

I should have specified the question was for non-cosleeping folks. :#@DDRRT1982 Wow, I would pretty much lose my mind!
  • We moved ours around 10 weeks before I went back to work.  Could have probably done it around 8.

My daughter was 8 weeks because outgrew the bassinet and in my old house my room couldn’t fit a pack and play.  My son slept with me for about 8 months.  This guy will be with me for quite a while.  My husband currently sleeps in what should be his room as he is only home about 6 hours in between work.  So he doesn’t have any crib set up much less a nursery.
  • @DDRRT1982 hahahaha! My 5 year old still ends up in our bed almost every night. My nine year old loves to come snuggle with us too. And was with us until he was almost 5.
We said we wouldn’t do it with the baby because he was doing beautifully in his bassinet but then he got a cold and I wanted to be able to monitor him more and keep his head propped up. That was a week ago...

@vflux33 we moved ours at around 11 months and it was the biggest mistake We made as First time parents. He was way too old and gave us a very hard time sleeping in his own room.
I’ll probably move this one at around 3-5 months or as soon as he’s on some kind of sleep schedule.
we live in a 2 bedroom apartment so the 2 boys will need to share a room....

ETA my carpal tunnel has gotten so bad this week that it’s brought me to tears more then once. I developed it a couple of weeks before giving birth, and it’s only getting worse now. My hands go almost completely numb when I use them and while sleeping. Has anyone experienced that? Is it something I should be concerned about?
  • We moved our daughter (now 2.5) when she was 4 weeks old. I had PPD and was going crazy with all her noises and everything. DS is 5 weeks old and he's still in with us, but I'm hoping to move him to the adjoining room soon.
  • Wow, thank you guys for all your responses! It really helps to hear a range of what a lot of different people do. I think we're going to try it out tonight (with the monitor) and see how it goes.
  • @LeahS927 yes! I got this all the time! It's such an obnoxious question! I would just shrug and say, he's a baby... he cries, he sleeps, he eats. I'd also get, is he a happy baby? Which would just make me feel bad... I'd think, God, I hope so...
  • @LeahS927 everyone told us “your second won’t be so good” and it always annoyed me. how are we judging a baby on being “good”?  Luckily DS is sleeping and nursing well so it was satisfying to tell all the family members that he is just as “good” as DD was.

We moved DD to crib at about 6 months. Unfortunately, she didn’t sleep great after that so I’m debating on what to do with DS now, earlier or later.  I have to get DD transitioned out of the crib though first. She took a nap in her big girl bed for the first time today!

Does anyone who got an epidural have back pain where it was placed? The doctor could not place mine and I can see 8 different places she inserted the needle (long story) and my back hurts in that area at times. I’m assuming it’s because of the amount of pokes as I don’t have headaches or any of the other side effects people talk about. The person who came and took out the epidural asked me what happened and told me it was likely to be sore but didnt say for how long.
  • @vflux33 with our son we moved him to his own room around 2 months. It was the best decision we made. The first night everyone slept a full night. It was the best sleep I have ever had in my life I think.
  • @allen4tl I had pain at my epidural site and it lasted a little over a week. I only had one stick. So you may be sore a little longer if you were stuck multiple times.
  • With my 1st I tried at least one nap during the day in the crib to help with the transition. I will do the same with this one.

  • @megpeg our first one was during his newborn photoshoot!
  • Morning started off great. My Massimo was happy, fed, changed, burped...then sleepy...his mobile on his crib made him pass out so he napped in there. Perfect timing so I could get the recycling, organics and garbage ready for the curb. Don't want to miss pick up!

Well...I don't know about your babes but as soon as mine wets his diaper he yells! Hates being wet even for 2 mins poor thing. Sooo here I am nursing him and all the garbage etc is ready at my front door to take out. Wish me luck! Hah....don't want this sitting around till next week. We do our best!

Time is not in my control...Massimo decides on my schedule and I wouldn't have it any other way.
  • @allen4tl, I had a spinal (for a c section) and I’m still getting random twinges of pain in the area (mostly during pumping for some odd reason). If I put pressure on the area, pain will shoot through so I’ve learned to not do that. OB nurse said it’s completely normal so long as it’s not constant pain or preventing regular daily activity.
  • My husband has been drinking and on the phone with all his friends for 6 hours. All I want to do is shower so Nate and I can go to bed (he won't got to bed without me). Ughhh  :(
  • When does the dark line on the belly go away? I'm also waiting for my wedding band to fit again.
  • I am struggling so hard right now because I had emergency surgery on Tuesday to remove my gallbladder. I can't lift anything over 15lbs. and my older two don't understand that if I lift them I could literally rip my staples and have my organs fall out! I just want to enjoy my kids, but instead it is one crap thing after another piling on me. I feel so isolated and alone because my husband works 12 hours+ 6 days a week, everyone is "giving me space to heal", I can't do very much around the house, and all the health issues has started effecting my milk supply. I just want to cry because no one wants to be around me because I have had so much going on since having my son a month ago.
  • @sassypants2010

I'm sorry to hear what you are going through. Do you have access to a public nurse to come to your home to see how you are doing? Having a visitor that is helpful and comforting might be good.  <3

@sassypants2010 - that is quite a bit going on.  Being home all morning, noon, and night with kids is exhausting even when your feeling your best.  Being a trucker’s wife isn’t for the faint of heart especially when we could really use a partner.

Following my c-section was hard because I do everything so I know it’s super tough and stressful.  Can your DH take a few days off to let you rest/heal?  What about a relative or friend taking one or both your other children even if they have to miss a few days of school - you need to rest and start to heal. Or someone who might be able to come by to help you with some basics like laundry and meals? What about hiring a cleaning lady for a few weeks?  A local board of FB might be able to recommend someone on the inexpensive side.  Easy meals with minimal clean up (take out, Mac n cheese, pizza, fish sticks, sandwiches, frozen one pan meals). Also bring everything you need to one central location for the day (water bottles, snacks, nursing supplies, baby supplies) where you can spend your day like a living room.

How long is your recovery expected to take?  Please feel free to come here anytime you need to vent.
  • @sassypants2010 I am glad you are ok and hopefully feeling better. I had to have my gallbladder out after my first baby and it was a planned surgery I can’t imagine the healing from an unplanned one.
I agree with the posts above try to get some help.
On that note too to all the new moms- it’s common to have gallbladder problems after pregnancy. If you have pain below your ribs toward the center on you right side have it checked out. I went 3 months without checking because I just thought it was something healing. Fever, severe pain in that area, and committing are common side effects.

  • Warning for first time moms- I always like to tell first time moms about the hair loss you may have. Since you don’t really lose hair when you are pregnant you may notice in the coming months that you are losing large amounts of hair and may feel like you are going to go bald. Don’t worry it may be thinner but usually goes back to your normal amount.

@megpeg I have had a nagging pain on my right side, but on my back.  I thought it was a pulled muscle.  Is the pain on the front or back when it's gallbladder?
  • @DDRRT1982 mine was in the front and can also present as shoulder pain. It was severe enough that I would just curl in a ball and sleep.

  • I'm a FTM and really...this is a lot of work, joyful but lots of work. I can't imagine having other children to look after as well. Wow. I commend you ladies. I want a second babe in the future...I appreciate hearing about your experiences. <3
  • Ok, then mine is probably a pulled muscle.  Thanks for the clarification.
  • Back hurts too, carrying a toddler and then a 13 lb kid get the muscles working- and to think I was in shape before this!
  • DS1 came back from his nana's today and oh my gosh he's being a pain. She must just let him do whatever he wants because he is not listening to a word I say today. So. Many. Timeouts.
  • Update, totally getting sick- along w the body aches I now go from being hot to having the chills. PleAse be nice to me tonight baby!
  • I hope he gets back into the routine, @heatherandmatt26.

Oh no, @slr1229!  It's the worst being sick with kids.
