Breast pumps.  It seems like such an unfun thing to research, so I’ve been avoiding it.

Edit:  “Berries” is not a verb, but might be good for breakfast today.
  • @knottieamusements @sammierose464 I agree breast pumps, but with the caveat that most (all?) insurances are required to cover a breast pump so you may not have many options when it comes to that aspect
  • @kiwi2628 very good point. I made mention in my post for FTMs to remember to check what is offered by their insurance. I need to look that up for mine...
  • @sammierose464 your insurance may give you a list of 2 or 3 vendors- make sure to call them all. I called the first one and they only offered Hygeia. The second one I called offered the Hygeia and Medela. The third one offered both those plus one weirdo brand that had terrible reviews that I can't even remember now.
  • I’ve never had a problem with my medela pumps. I have a manual single pump and the double electric-y one. The latter came from insurance and the former I bought for when I need to pump when I’m out of the house.

Also, I put this in the ticker change but I want a wider audience. Anyone heard of or taken compazine? My dr wants me to try it because this nausea/hurling has gotten totally out of hand and the Zofran is barely putting a dent in it.

Skip insurance and get a Spectra 1 or 2 if you can. So much better than even Medela! I actually think some insurance companies are covering them now too.

    They’re like $150.

  • @mytrueloves oh man, that dog is in some serious trouble... making a full size blanket or baby blanket?
  • @mytrueloves - This is part of why I gave up knitting.  My cat thinks the yarn is a fabulous toy...  Sorry you lost so much work- cables are a bitch.
  • @halfanewt baby blanket. Then eventually a matching cap.
@knottieamusements truth be told it's been a LONG time since I knitted anything and I made a crap ton of mistakes so I probably should be thankful for the excuse to start over. But that was days of work so I'm gonna be mad anyway

  • SS will be with me all day tomorrow while I work from home since he's on spring break. He and I are going to check out a daycare. I'm trying to figure out what else to do with him that he can do mostly on his own while I work (that's not his tablet or TV all day). I feel like I've been a slacker of a mom for the last 9 weeks since I got pregnant...

    He's 6.

ETA: I just remembered my mom and siblings are home tomorrow due to spring break. We might head over there for him to play.
  • cjx95cjx95 member
@sammierose464 playdoh sculptures, puzzles, have him draw pictures for the baby, and you can hang them in the nursery, work on reading together, make cookies or snacks together, if it's nice out where you are go on a walk maybe?
  • @mamabearcj those are all great ideas. I was thinking of having him read to the cat or dog near me. Once the baby gets a little further along I'm hoping I can get him excited to "read to baby". I should pull out the playdoh.
  • @sammierose464 My boys are 5 and will pretty much entertain themselves, even when I separate them because they’re fighting, they still find stuff to do alone. Just tell him to go play while you get work done.  That’s not being a slacker mom - it’s doing what’s good for his development, which makes you a good mom.

  • All he wants to do lately is play on his tablet or watch tv, which is starting to drive me crazy. Dude, you have a ROOM FULL OF TOYS!
  • @chopchop25 - oh, that one will be soooo worth going back to in a few hours...

And for the record, my first pee stick for this BFP was definitely negative.  I wanted and wished it to be positive, but anyone telling me it was would have been offering false hope.  The one I used a few days later when my period was due was definitely positive. No need to share it with my nearest and dearest internet strangers.
  • @DunkinDecaf I have been on compazine both when pregnant and when not (I have
GERD and some other GI issues). Where you just wanting to know others experiences?

I didn't have any side effects from it,  and it helped ok. It wasn't a miracle pill that took it all away,  but it was a lot more tolerable. It stopped the actual puking usually. I haven't asked for it yet this time and am far sicker than when I had it.
  • Reading that thread on TTGP was actually eye-opening. I didn't even think of the hurt that women who've been trying for a long time to see a BFP.  I posted a stick from Oct on a FB page because I truly had no idea if it was positive, the lines were so close together and I had several negatives as well. Turns out, it was a faulty test with 2 control lines. That was super hard to take when my period started 2 days later...
  • @jomama1618 yeah I was just looking for experiences. Thank you!

  • @chopchop25 I just read that and laughed. What a psycho.

@sammierose464 yea, TTGP gets drive by pee sticks probably once or twice a month and it was annoying. Once there was one was from someone who 'wasn't even trying' and 'wasn't sure she wanted it' and it about stabbed me in the gut.
  • @kiwi2628 I don't understand why someone would think a "trying to get pregnant" forum was the right place to do that... ugh. I don't blame anyone on that board for getting snarky when it's that common.

Mine do that too sometimes. That’s when I know I’ve been letting it happen too much.  I don’t know the situation with him being SS, but if he lives with you most of the time, or even half time, can you cut him off for a while?  Maybe not when you have to work since he’ll probably be really annoying for at least the first few days.  We’ve had great success with a week or 2 week electronic “detox” with my boys. They no longer ask to watch a movie every day and when they do ask, sometimes I say no just to say no. Sounds mean, but if they whine and cry it tells me they are either not hearing no enough from us or they’re watching too many movies & either way, no was the right answer.  We’ve had to do the “detox” a few times, because it’s easy to slip back into letting them watch too much, especially when I’m not feeling great or I’m just being lazy, or it’s winter...

FWIW, my kids have a 600 (or maybe 800? I can’t remember) square foot playroom filled with toys (because spoiled) and their favorite things to play with are toilet paper rolls.  It’s always a mess though and a few months ago I told them to clean it up and anything that was left on the floor was being sold... they started a selling pile. After we cleaned out the toys from the pile and reorganized they started playing with a few of the toys again... but tp rolls are still their favorite (I think because they can be anything - lightsaber handles, telescopes, guns, whatever they want, while their toys are harder to do that with - their dinosaur can pretty much be a dinosaur.) Maybe throwing some open ended things in his playroom if he doesn’t have any will help?

ETA: I just realized this was a longer term thing than what to do about tomorrow.  If you’re going to try the detox, let him watch movies while you get work done, because he’ll be distracted and you’ll be able to work faster.  If the detox isn’t feasible because you only have him a day or 2, maybe run out and get an activity book for him to do?  My boys love the Star Wars preschool workbook because they’re obsessed with Star Wars.  They “do homework” in it all the time.  Maybe he’ll want to “do work” next to you while you’re working. Set him up at a little table or your desk if there’s room or even on the floor near you.

  • OMG that TTGP thread. Just. Wow.
  • Ugh I feel so lame for admitting this but I totally caved for a soft serve vanilla ice cream cone from McDonalds and now all I can think about are the stupid listeria risks. I want to be all care free about it but it freaks me out. I wont be doing it again and will hope this time it will be fine. I also microwave lunch meat. None of my other friends ever even cared about these regulations but I can't not not get anxious after.
  • @ninji15 for me it’s not even really about the risks, it’s about the anxiety. If it’s going to make you anxious, it’s not worth it. I absolutely wouldn’t worry about the ice cream, but I totally understand where you’re coming from. Eat the things that make you happy; meaning, sound yummy and won’t make you worried. It’s not lame to be worried about your kid.

  • @ninji15 I agree with DunkinDecaf. The first time I was pregnant (14 years ago) over half of the do not eat guidelines weren’t even around. I’ve talked with my dr and MFM and they both agree that the guidelines are extreme. It’s always better to use your best judgement. If it’s going to cause you to worry then go ahead and avoid that food.

Brb. Off to read the TTGP thread.
  • Simebody help me!  I can’t find the TTGP thread unless it’s the drive by pregnancy test that got shut down pretty quickly?

But why?!?  :(  At least I wasn’t the only one to miss it.  The one @coffee-saur mentioned is the only one I could find and it didn’t seem all that dramatic for the responses I was seeing here.

edit - that sad face looks a little more shocked than sad and is definitely not the same as the sad face in the face menu.
