Re: Baby names!

  • @pebbledam that is our struggle too with the "ee" sound - Damn last name takes a lot of the cute nicknames away

Our last name has two -en sounds. (Similar to Lowensteen). That seems to rule out 90% of the boys names. I'd gladly trade for your -ee!!

I think it's silly when people tell others that they don't like a name because they have a specific negative connotation with it. Has absolutely no bearing. But it makes sense if you are talking about names you're ruling out for your own kid.
I’m doing this on my own, so no Dad to discuss it with. But my Mom wants to be involved- which is great so far.  She wanted me to use my middle name for the baby, but my middle name is a paternal family name, and I had been thinking about using her maiden name so baby has family names from both sides.

She freaked out - like viscerally negative reaction.  But she also appreciated that I was trying to honor her, and has made some suggestions that aren’t distasteful to her.  I actually like one of the suggestions a lot better than her maiden name.

But yeah - “I don’t like xxxx, because I was bullied by someone named that in elementary school”?  Nope- unless you are the parent, not your business.
  • @knottieamusements - I went to school with someone who helped commit a murder when we were all 16/17. Great name (and it's been mentioned in this thread), but I would obviously never use that name on my own kid! I try to remain objective to when giving advice/suggestions on names!

  • I like Islay. MH is Scottish and I'm Irish/Scottish so we looked at a lot of Celtic/Gaelic names. It's how we got onto Griffin.

@sammierose464 I love Griffin. Have a close friend with that name so feel weird about using it. But I think it’s a beautiful name and clearly gender neutral (in my opinion all names are gender neutral but not everyone agrees...) so the ease of that is awesome.
  • My step son's name is Otto, so I felt like a traditional American name just wouldn't fit. Although, if it's a girl she will be Charlotte.
  • I dont know about boy names but my DS is named Logan Patrick.. After wolverine and the movie Logan. We are cheesy but we liked it. So we may go with another superhero name for a boy lol. But for girls I like Ruby or Rose. No middles name yet. I want a girl so ive thought about those names more.

@kiwi2628 love the name choices! I know people say beware of middle names but I feel like most of the time people aren't really looking at initials. I'd say go for Arthur for a middle name!! Its a nice name and people will love it too
  • @kiwi2628 what about using Arthur as the first name but calling him by his middle name? My husband is called by his middle name because they liked the initials better that way and his dad's name is his first name.

  • @kiwi2628 CAG isn’t bad. Or you could do two middle names.

  • We're back to the drawing board on boy names.

We have an Ethan and an Enzo, so we wanted another E name. We settled on Eli but I'm starting to second guess it. Not really a fan of Elijah either. I love Ezra or Elliot but H vetoed both of those. Now we're looking at non E names, but I was excited for three Es.... which is silly since our girl name is Skylar. But it'll be Skye with an E for short, so that's how I justified it to my OCD.

*Sigh* I don't know why it bothers me so much if a third boy isn't an E.

  • @krzyriver - There is also Elias.
  • @chyvie unfortunately my #1 name right now is Henry. My last name ends in an 'ee' sound, so it would be something like 'Arthur Henry Ga-sdjhsfhjfs-ski' and I don't like the two 'ee' sounds next to each other when there are 3 names, if that makes sense.

Blarg. Soooooo many first world problems, lol
  • @kiwi2628 - I can’t tell you how many first names I have thrown out because my middle name choice and last name both end in an “en” sound...
  • @kiwi2628 would you consider 2 middle names? Might solve the initial problem and multiple 'ee' problem.

I love Nathanial and Bennett. Those get my vote  :p
  • For a boy I’m thinking:

    Abrams
    River
    Laken

though I think the latter 2 might be too “hippie” for my husband.
Our last name is so generic that I want a semi different name

    Thoughts?

    P. S. Trying to keep up with you guys and stay in the know with the group (been in the middle of big move)
  • @hacharles River is on our boy list too! I know it can go both ways but I much prefer it on a boy :)

@knottieamusements H just vetoed it. Ugh!

@missmaehurt I just told him you seconded Ezra and he very violently said NO. He’s a brat. Lol. I just think Enzo and Ezra would be so cute!! I love the Z’s.

He just suggested Eden. I know it’s a man’s name too, but is it too feminine? Michael is the middle name we’re leaning towards.

  • @krzyriver I definitely think Eden is a feminine name.

Edison?  (I actually know a sib-set of Eden and Edison...girl/boy).
  • I have a Caeden and an Eli already.
We really love the name Evelyn for a girl... I’m having a hard time with the fact that it would be C, E, E .. I feel like I can’t have another E name. My SO goes by his middle name so that could be an option I guess.
For a boy I’m in love with the name Ira and SO is all for that one too.
We decided to stop trying to make a choice on a name until we find out the gender. We don’t want to lose one of the names we love! I can’t help but keep looking though lol.
For some reason I’m a lot more concerned with trying to figure out a girl name and find myself saying “she/her” the odd time! Ugh!
  • Our DS is evelyn. It’s really popular now, but classic and we get unprompted compliments all the time on what a nice name she has. We didn’t know it was popular when we chose it, and it doesn’t bother us now either.

We will find out the sex of baby 2 soon. Even though baby 1 was a girl, I have so many more girl names on my new list than boy ones.

I like Logan, Elliott and Julian but don’t love anything. I think Elliott might be too much with Evelyn.

For girls my front runner is Juliet or Sydney. I’d love to do Cilla (Priscilla is a family name) but I hate the full version so I think it’s out.

Given my pregnancy symptoms have been the complete opposite of my first pregnancy I just feel like this is a boy though.
  • @krzyriver I love Eden for a boy!
  • One of our new top runners for a boy is Henry.  We are both really liking it which is rare.  Middle name would still be Christopher.

I also really liked the name Graham but DH vetoed that. Another favorite that wont work is Samuel but our last name starts with S and I wouldn't want to have a double S.
  • @midwestmom12 Hmmm... I'll have to roll that one around my head for a sec. I think I could warm up to it.

@norahkate Oh good, I do too but thought maybe I was crazy. H thinks we definitely need an Enzo and Eden because then they'd both be named after professional soccer players. Lol.

  • I like Edison!

And SS isn't too bad, that was mine before I got married (SRS).
  • @HoosOnFirst Logan is on our list, too. Pretty sure H put it there because of Wolverine... (x-men)
  • @chopchop25 same here, Wolverine is awesome.
  • @drb2424 I love Henry! It was our frontrunner, but with our last name (similar to Hudson), we couldn't find a middle name combination we liked. Yesterday we decided to use it as a middle name, so now our boy choice is Alexander Henry.

I'm loving all of the E names, and now think I might need to add some more to our growing list. I also love Henry Christopher - that's a great name!

Definitely would love some honest opinions because our list keeps growing and not shrinking.

    Top girl contenders:
    Dylan, Parker, Casey, Blake
(middle name thoughts: Ann, Casey, Marie)

    Top boy contenders:
Wyatt, Shane, William, Logan, Grant, Casey
(middle name thoughts: Walter, Daniel, Chatham, Danford)

  • I'm not expecting to pick a name any time soon. We didn't agree until 36 weeks with DS. We're team green, which SO agreed to, so that's his excuse for not being able to think of anything.

@krzyriver I love Eden for a boy and I think it pairs well with Michael!!
  • @drurose Alexander Henry is a nice combo!

@chopchop25 I like Parker Ann or Casey Marie for a girl!
  • @chopchop25 For girls I think Parker Ann and Blake Marie sound the best. For boys  Logan Daniel and William Daniel sound the best
  • @chopchop25 I think my personal favorites from your options are Dylan Casey or Casey Marie for a girl and Grant Chatham or Grant Walter for a boy. All very pretty names, though!
  • I love love love love baby names. So much so, that I've kept a list in my phone since I was like 20 of names I have loved.

Right now, the top of my list for a girl are: Aniston Grace (Anna Grace), Baylor, Elizabeth Kate (Ella Kate), and Lila Grace.

Boys I love Easton, Sutton, Channing, and Hudson.

  • Good for you guys thinking of this stuff already. We won’t even touch names until we find out the sex. Less arguing over names you won’t even use. We used our one and only agreed upon name for DS. This kid will be the child with no name.
  • So DH’s last name is super German, and we love Germany, so we want our kids to have German first names. DS’s name came from a German boy list, and it happens to be the name of a friend/work acquaintance’s son. Didn’t even think about that, didn’t really care.

A few weeks ago, I was perusing the German names list and saw a girl’s name that (oh my God) DH and I both liked. Sweet! If it’s a girl, maybe we’re set.

Last night I was laying in bed and realized that my aforementioned friend has a daughter, too... named the same girl’s name! Oh man, that’s super weird, right? Having two kids named the exact same thing? Thing is, I don’t work with her anymore, and I don’t really talk to her anymore as a result... but is that still weird? I’m inclined to say eff it, but... weird.
