What the hell everyone. I am peeing myself a little anytime I pass gas. Tell me I’m not the only one. I’m literally going to have to wear a pad all the time. I’m only 14,3
I’m waaay late on this but it’s ceryainly not a guarantee but it is VERY VERY COMMON to have stronger supply for subsequent kids. Some still struggle with supply but most women have a stronger supply after their 1st.
There was was something I read once where it said that first baby is another stage of almost, puberty for your boobs. That the change they go through is so huge that it is akin to that. Makes sense with the supply thing.
for me I struggled with my first - not as badly as some but def barely enough. Then... massive oversupply and overactive letdown for 2&3. Which are also not good problems to have necessarily. Different set of troubles lol.
^ I had over active let down with DS. Like when I felt the let down tingle, I had to pull him off and let the milk squirt into a towel until it stopped and then let him latch back on. This poor kid, if that’s the case!
I made a lot of milk in the beginning and even though I feel like the LC told me not to, I totally plan to pump & freeze this time so I have a bit of a stash. Last time I just pumped as I needed it and that seemed stressful!
@pghctwife I hope that’s true! I struggled with supply for DS, especially after I returned to work and had to pump. We were able to exclusively BF/EBF for 6 months, which felt like a victory but I was always stressed about it, constantly power pumping, and we were completely done at 7 months, which was earlier than I wanted. My right side petered out completely so it was pretty much unilateral supply for the last month or two. I HAVE noticed a pregnancy change in my breasts this pregnancy (they are actually firm and perky!) that I did not have at all with my first, so I’m hopeful.

What was the reason LC told you not to pump and freeze? I did this and had a huge stash and with the when I slowed down on breast feeding we were able to still give my daughter the same amount of milk for months.
@kc0711 other pp have covered it that they'll measure you and ect. I am the low end of average for weight and am still 12lbs down and comfortable with my size and so is the doctor. They measured baby at my nt scan and it was measuring perfectly on target. I was terrified bc I hadn't hardly eaten in 2 months due to morning sickness but baby takes what it needs

Probably because if you have oversupply pumping tells your body that it needs it and won’t adjusr to the demand of one baby.
Sane reason the the best way to improve supply is to put baby to breast more and more... pumping extra early on tells your body to keep on keeping on with the oversupply.
if you just are consistent with like, one pump per day to freeze it should be fine. It’s more when you pump to relieve the oversupply discomfort that you are sending the wrong message

Fingers crossed! I’ve also found that, in hindsight, the impact of ftm learning curve - in this and a million other things - is massive. I found being a mom much easter for 2+ because it wasn’t all brand new. Each baby was different but stil. And even if you have a repeat with supply issues I’ll bet you’ll feel calmer and less stressed by it.., which in turn may even help.
@ssthomps that’s why. It causes over supply, but I plan to do what @pghctwife said and just pump once per day. I was scared to do that with DS because I was already making so much.

I’m going to get one of those things that catches the milk instead of letting it all leak! I’m hoping I can do that instead of pump, because I’m not working out of the home. I’ll just need some for date nights.

Yes! I need one of those too. I forget what they are called though. I’d soak a pad while nursing so might as well grab that!
I had horrible oversupply with #2. It was no joke. When she weaned around a year, we had enough frozen for another six months or so. With number 3, I didn’t pump until 3 months to try to keep it from happening again. It worked a lot better.
I pumped while ds was in the nicu and had a 7.2 cubic foot deep freeze completely filled up when we left. When he was 2 months old my breasts randomly stopped responding to the pump and dried up (due to medical reasons I had to ep). I started out over supply and ended up on formula.
@amac12999 and @pghctwife gotcha. I definitely pumped a lot and hoping to not to do that this time around. I will try the pumping once a day and see how that goes. I do like having a stash but it doesn’t need to be excessive.

If you find out what it is called let us know. In the beginning I wasted milk because I was so engorged. It would be nice to catch it, especially the colostrum.
