Names?!?

Re: Names?!?

  • @Sarafuss YES!!! I feel exactly this way about all girl names in general. I swear I have looked at every name that exists and I'm not in love with any of them. Some I kind of like but nothing really stands out to me.

  • @foxbaby2016 I'm trying to remember if I felt this way with my other kids' names.  But I can't remember!  I know I was nervous about telling people my first baby's name, Roman, since it felt a little "different".  I'm just going to tell myself that I felt a little unsure of all my kids' names and I didn't feel 100% confident and in love with their names right away.  Maybe that will help, haha!

  • @Sarafuss DH and I both kind of feel the same way this time. We used our best choice for DD1, so deciding on a name for DD2 seems so difficult. I like our current front runner but I keep looking for other names, thinking something better will come along.

    Isabella & Julian & and now #3!
  • DH and I thought we were set with Brielle for this baby but now I'm really liking the name Laurel for her. Other names we considered are Mila and Noelle but I don't know if I love love them. I also absolutely LOVE the name Althea but DH dislikes it so that's out.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @runsomewhere I love all names with the  "elle" sound in them! Noelle is actually one of my absolute favorite names but DH vetoed. Little does he know it's my top pick for middle name and He said I can pick the middle name lol.

@Sarafuss we stopped telling other people our choices. I couldn't handle the opinions and faces and comments anymore. It's hard enough deciding on a name with just my husband, let alone a whole family. Don't let their reactions influence what you want!
  • @babybakie I think I like the "elle" ending names too. I keep thinking Noelle might be too Christmasy but IDK. Names are tough this time around.  I was asking the baby if she preferred Brielle or Laurel last night when she was being really active lol.

  • @runsomewhere I LOVE the name Laurel. There are going to be a bunch of "elle" ending names out there....Laurel sounds fresh, modern and also familiar. I love it!

@babybakie For our DS, we did not tell anyone our names. For this pregnancy, I've let a couple slip and instantly remembered why we kept names a secret the first time around. I actually really liked one name early on in the pregnancy and people have talked me out of it....so frustrating  :(
  • We have a boy name picked out now, but before we knew what we were having, I loved the name Arabella for a girl! And I'm a huge Zelda fan so her middle name would have been Saria. But we are having a boy so we couldn't use it. Perhaps in the future, but just sharing for others who may be struggling finding a unique girl name
  • +1 for Laurel @runsomewhere!

We're still thinking Oliver but no middle name yet.
  • I love Laurel @runsomewhere

@Sarafuss I think Roman is so cute!!! I might have to use that on a future baby. I am using River for my boy this time and instantly regretted sharing it with co-workers. People think it's too girly. Today I sent the secretary from our office a list of famous males with the name River just because she kept saying it was a girl name
  • I really started liking Owen in the past couple days. My husband isn't sure yet how he feels about it but I think it sounds really good with my son's name, Eli. Not sure on a middle name but I was thinking Owen Henry sounds nice.

I very well may change my mind ten times in this next 10 weeks though.
  • @hayhay93 that surprises me!  River is a boy name to me.  I heard somewhere recently of a little girl being named River (and while it’s still cute for a girl) that’s the first time I’d ever heard of it being used for a girl.

  • My neice's middle name is River but I've always heard it as a boy name. I've also heard of Rivers for a boy.
  • @hayhay93 River sounds like it would be a very cool name for either a boy or a girl BUT I have always only known River to be a boys name!
  • Late to the name party but really starting to think since the AS is coming up here in 6 days (eek!). @Sarafuss I was completely lukewarm on DS's name but it was really important to DH so I kept my mouth shut. Now i can't imagine him with any other name and I love it! Also maybe once you see her Sloane will just really seem to fit?

Also @flockofmoosen3 you seem to have moved on from the "Charlie" thing but I just wanted to throw one more in-Charleston. I know a Charleston who goes by Charlie who is a girl!

I can't remember if I posted in this name thread of Aug but for a boy DH was set on Bernard, but has recently said he'll move Bernard to the middle name for Luciano, Luca for short. We already have a Giuseppe.

For girls we have a few. I was pretty set on Penelope and that is the only one DH likes that I have mentioned.  He "doesn't hate" a couple others, including Evangeline (because I like the nickname Eva) and Lyra, but it'll probably be Penelope.
  • @SmashJam I adore Penelope! For a girl, I love Daphne, another Greek name. If we have another one and it's a girl she will be Maia Eleonor.

I'm also still not set on any name for my little man!
  • @kissableviv I love Eleanor as well, and Elliana, but we have a dog named Eleanor (after Eleanor Rigby) and both of those names would result in Ellie as a nickname, which is what we call her, so DH vetoed. His exact words were, "Indiana was the dogs name!" (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade reference). Lol. Daphne is beautiful.
  • Thanks for the opinions guys  <3 picking a name is tough!

@hayhay93 I like the name River, it's cool and nature-y without being too out there. I've heard it used mostly for boys though there is a girl with that name at my daughter's preschool. It's not a girly name though, and you'll probably find girls out there with all sorts of typical boy names.

    @zande2016 Love Owen Henry

@kissableviv I've always loved the names Oliver and Olivia <3

  • We may have come to the conclusion that we like Oliver Milo :) who knows if it will stick! I also like Oliver Lucas.

@foxbaby2016 I felt the same way. I wasn’t suuuuper crazy about any. We had list of the top names but I couldn’t find any I just love love love. So we went with our top pick (Kennedy Ann) and I’ve started liking it more and more. I think our biggest issue was also that we had the middle name picked first so we were trying to find a name that went with Ann.

I aso also think it’s because it is our second daughter. We looooove loved loved the name we picked for my oldest. For this pregnancy we had the boy name picked immediately but we are having a girl for sure.
  • @kissableviv <3 Oliver Milo, Lucas is a good mn too but Milo sounds great.

  • @smashjam I have always loved Penelope!  My husband doesn't like it so it didn't get seriously considered, but I used to work with a guy that had a little girl named Penelope and they called her P Nelly as a nickname and it was pretty adorable!  :D

  • Any thoughts on Aria?  Would be Aria Patricia - not sure about the two "a" sounds.  It seems like a divisive name and also I guess trendy due to two popular TV shows, but DH likes the musical connotations, and I think it's a nice A name alternative to Ava, Adeline, etc.  Also love Nora, so maybe Eleanor Patrica, with Nora as a nickname? I also like Alice, but it also seems kind of plain.
  • @adventuresawait1 I like Aria but it definitely reminds me of the Vegas hotel. I really like Nora and Alice as well but I'm not in to Eleanor, I know it's becoming super trendy again but it screams old lady to me.

  • I mentioned before I love Eleonor but my mom's name is Eleonora, so it's out for us. I think it's old fashioned but it sounds "regal" to me more than old lady. Adele, Adeline, all of those sound more old lady to me. I actually like Aria, I've seen it spelled as Arya too. I don't have cable so I'm not sure what to shows that name is in :p
  • @adventuresawait1 I like the way Aria Patricia sounds. I hear Aria and think of Game of Thrones character.

  • @runsomewhere @kissableviv @zombiehoohaa Thanks for the thoughts on this!  I don't love Eleanor, but am unsure about directly using the name Nora.  And @kissableviv I had no idea it was a trendy TV thing until I googled it - I guess Game of Thrones as @zombiehoohaa mentioned (spelled Arya) and also Pretty Little Liars (spelled Aria).

  • As soon as I hear Arya, I think game of thrones. It is becoming more popular though, so mabe by the time she is in school the name association will start to fade
  • Also a little late to the name party here....but we finally found out we are having a boy! So his name will be Mathis but now I'm stuck on the middle name. We have a tradition in my family of using the mother's maiden name as a middle name....and for the longest time I was all about that. It would be Mathis McHenry. But now we also have another middle name that we really like - Mathis Croix. I can't quite decide which I like better.....

I am so excited we are having a little boy though! I barely had the girls list narrowed down - Lakelynn, River, & Lennox were all options. So many other cute names in this thread though!
  • My friend’s family tradition is for children to have 2 middle names. You could try Mathis Croix McHenry Xxxx, but it would also depend on your last name...

I like both as middle names though, so I’m no help.
  • I second double middle names. We were gonna double middle name if we had a girl, not sure if we will for a boy, we don't really have a middle name picked out yet!
  • @stlmegs I love the name Madelynn!  So beautiful!  Wish I saw your post earlier cause I'm late to the party.  I know a child, Madeline (that is pronounced Mad-uh-lyn), and she is constantly called "Mad-uh-line".  Even if people constantly need to be reminded yours has two n's, I don't think anyone would mispronounce!

We have had Benjamin picked out for a name for a few months now.  My DH suggested it and he is the pickiest ever.  I liked it when he suggested it.  When I was trying to figure out the sex (he's known a bit longer than me), I started to joke with him to try and get it out of him by saying, "Is it Baby Benjamin or Baby Arden?" and it just stuck.  The more I say it, the more I can't imagine any other name.  Using it when we're reading to him or when he kicks, just all the time, made me fall in love with it!  I know some ladies were saying they weren't super sure about their choices yet...that's what helped me!

Anyone using their maiden name for a middle name?  LO's initials will be B.R.A. because of this and people keep going, "Ohhhh....that's interesting...."  DH has the same initials, purely coincidental, and he turned out just fine.  But, honestly, how often would I initial his things?!

  • Ahhh... we had a hard time choosing a name for boy #1, and then really struggled with boy #2.  Now with boy #3 on the way we are REALLY stuck for ideas haha!  We already have Luca and Owen, any suggestions to go with?  Dh is pretty picky and I'm stumped haha!
  • @julybabybear my maiden name
is sooooo german that I would not use it as a middle name. No one ever knew how to pronounce it as it was. Plus my younger brother has a boy (and about to have another), so the last name will carry on. If I was gonna use anyone’s I would consider using my mom’s maiden name or my dad’s mom’s maiden name as they are much more normal. Lol

Thanks for the feedback @julybabybear!  I feel like we are name twins because Benjamin was at the top of our boy name list this time.  I have always loved that name, for both little kids and for adults.  I think Benjamin is such a great name!  I wouldn't be bothered by the initials, especially if your husband has the same.  That's kind of cute actually :)

  • @julybabybear He could use his initials a lot depending on his job. I'm an engineer and I use my initials all the time on drawings/calculations/specifications that I make. If it doesn't bother your husband or you then don't worry about it. I would hope as adults in a workforce, no one would be childish enough to make fun of his initials.  Just some more insight though. PS I love the name Benjamin
  • We have a top 4! Our twin boys are Donovan and Marshall. Little sister is going to be:

    Eloise Cordelia (or Grace)
    Alice Cordelia
    Lucy Cordelia
    Reina Grace

I’m pushing for Eloise Cordelia (called Ellie or Lou) and I think DH is leaning towards Reina Grace.
