Re: Baby names!

  • Our daughter is Hannah. I feel like the combination of already having one child and trying to pick a name that “goes” with hers AND being a teacher is making naming this baby extra hard.

We are all set if the baby is a boy with Alexander Joseph

    Girl names we like:
    Josephine
    Caroline
    Clara

    hmmmm

  • Loading the player...
  • No middle names yet but we have our first names I think. Violet or Oliver. Dd is Alice Rose so I think both names go well with that
    Me: 32 DH: 31
    TTC #2 since January 2018
    Baby #1 DD  Born 8/25/2016
    BFP: 8/11/18 Due: 4/26/18

  • @estellegetty love the girl names. My niece is Caroline Josephine and I love it.
    Me: 29 DH: 44
    DX: PCOS
    IUI #1, Nov 2016 - BFN
    IUI #2, Jan 2017 - BFN
    IVF #1, Feb 2017 - 22 eggs retrieved, 18 fertilized, 14 Day-5 blasts to freeze
    FET #1, Feb 2018 -

I like Eli for a girl :) If you saw Eli for a girl how would you pronounce it! Eee-lie or El-eeh? Husband isn't liking it.
  • @SweetSweetTooth - I would pronoun it the traditional "Ee-lie."

As for us, we've started throwing around ideas, but we have a long way to go.
    Me: 29 | DH: 29

  • I just realized that my top boy name, which my SO loves too, probably won't work because it starts with the same letter as the last name. I'm afraid being Henry H. will make him sound like a Marvel super hero (Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, etc). So now I'm stuck. We love Sam, but that's a) my cousin's baby's name and b) my grandfather's dog.

Girl name is probably Charlotte Willow. The Willow part is a long story but it's to match her step sister's middle name (River).
  • We started a list for first names but we know for sure the middle name will be Jamie for a boy or girl. It's a family name for DH. His late fathers middle name (but he went by Jamie) and DH first name (but he goes by his middle name Chris)
Our last name is hard to put names with so they have to be a strong two syllables name that doesn't have y's in it
    Me 33 DH 41
    TTC since 2016
    Due: October 12, 2018
    Location: Ontario, Canada

  • @SweetSweetTooth I would pronounce it El-eeh. I'm pretty sure the other way is for a boy?
    DS  12-1-2014
    DD 10-29-2016
    #3 due 10-13-2018
  • @SweetSweetTooth I'd probably pronounce it Ee-Lie

For the longest time we were set on a boy's name (John Michael) and now we aren't sure. John was my grandpa's first name and he was like my dad. So if it's not the first name, it'll be the middle. Michael is my husband's first name and also his son's middle name. (My husband's middle is his dad's first, and his dad's middle is his dad's first).

Now we are tossing around Killian, Maddox, Declan, and Griffin.

Hubby decided on a girl name and I love it, Charlotte Rose. Rose is my middle name. She'd be nicknamed Charlie.

Ugh, names... this was so hard last time. I had tons of girls names ready, but boys names were tough. We didn't finally pull the trigger on DS's name until an hour before we left the hospital with him... in fact, I was SURE his name was going to be something different going into labor.

I have ideas, but I'm getting stressed just thinking about it, haha.

Edit: I was also a teacher for 10 years, so yeah, the struggle finding untainted names is real.

Also a bit scared to think of names, but we couldn’t help ourselves!

i wanted Claire or Clara forever (Clara from the Nutcracker), but my SIL name is Claire so we left that one behind. We are now set on Dylan for a girl and I think for a boy we are between Logan and Wyatt. Middle names will be names for family members.
  • I am also a teacher which is making me think twice about our boy name. We have a boy middle name picked out (James-husbands middle name). I love Evelyn for a girl and call her Evie but I already have a livie and I think that would be too close. So basically we are no where close to having set names! : ) luckily we have a while!

DH is pretty sold on Dominic for a boy.. not sure about a middle name but possibly Austin (DH middle name) Wayne (DH’s Gpa) or Joseph (My dads name) If it’s a girl most likely Fiona Marie and we’d call her Fi. Both of my Gmas middle names are Marie and mine is too so I thought it would fit!
  • Ugh, yes, also a teacher here! My kids will never get to be Aiden, Kayden, Jayden, Hayden, Landon, Leland I have so many students with those names. Our first DS is Ryan Connor.
  • @SweetSweetTooth eeee-lie

    DS 12/15/13

  • @SweetSweetTooth I would also pronounce it Eee lie.

We have three top contenders for girls names, but zero boys names. Watch it be a boy haha.

    Girls:
    Alexia (nn Xia)
    Eliana
    Gianna

    Boys:
    TBD.
There are a few I love, but DH has vetoed all of them so far.

I’ve been dreaming up our kids names since we were dating hahah! DH and I both have all family names that is the tradition in our families, so we stick with it.

Our 8 yo DD is Stella Carter

if this LO is a girl, she will *hopefully* be
    Margaret Wolfe (nn Mae Mae)

    a boy will be:
    Henry Randolph
    me 32 | dh 45
    married <3 11.11.17
mama. epicurean. plant lover. wine enthusiast.
  •  Henry has now officially been vetoed because of our last name, so I guess we're starting over.  At least we figured it out now and not in October!
  • We did PGS so we know we are having a boy. I really like Alec and Brock my husband hasnt decided yet
3 MMC #1 Ivf Fet pregnancy BFP 2/10/18

  • DF and I agree on Galen for a boy. It's the name I dreamed of before I found out I was pregnant and the name DF asked if we could use the same day I had that dream. For a girl we have a long list but our #1 is Eliza.
    Ladybug - April 2013
    Dandelion - October 2018
    Angel "Aurora" - July 2020
    Angel "Sawyer" - May 2021
    Angel "Maxine" - January 2022
    Angel "Violet" - March 2022
    Baby Dove due March 2023
  • DH won't even talk names yet. He probably won't discuss them until we know if it's a boy or girl. With DD we had boy and girl names picked before I was even pregnant. I have a few top names now, but DH is in no hurry to hear them.
  • Our DD is named Samantha. I have a few names for girls and my top contenders are:

    Elise
    Cassandra
Clarice (nn would be Clara or Claire)
    Melinda (nn Mindy)

Boy names have been tricky for us since DH hates most of mine and vice versa. My top names are:

    Colin
    Elliot
    Emmett
    Trent
    Nicholas
    Theo
  • Love these names guys!!

    SS is Ethan Arthur Lee
    DS is Enzo James

So if it’s a boy it will be Eli Michael. If it’s a girl it will by Skyler Jean, Skye for short.

I don’t know the reason behind Ethan’s name, his mom named him without consulting my DH. But every name we chose was for a reason.... except Eli. Eli was just chosen so we could have three Es.

    E will be 18 on July 24th
    Z was born October 16, 2016
    #3 Due October 9, 2018

    MC - November 29, 2012
    CP - November 15, 2014
    D&C for MMC - October 13, 2015

  • @knottieamusements we picked out name late last time like 39 weeks, but if we pick one earlier I am not sharing.
  • Ugh, yes, also a teacher here! My kids will never get to be Aiden, Kayden, Jayden, Hayden, Landon, Leland I have so many students with those names. Our first DS is Ryan Connor.
Last year between my middle two kids they had at least one Taden, Hayden, Caden, Jaden, Braden, Blayden, and Aiden in their classes (a few Aidens with various spellings). Then again, our oldest is Jack (Jackson) so I am not totally against popular names either.  ;);)

  • With our first we were team green. Had lots of boy names and none for a girl! Luckily it was a boy. We named him Lincoln. We've been tossing a few ideas around for #2. I love River for a boy and DH loves Quinton (which I don't love but don't hate either.) We seriously struggle with girl names...I like Eden & Bellamy :)

  • We have a Luka Robert and Scarlett Celeste.  It took us everything we had to agree on those - we actually went into the hospital thinking DD would be Layla, and then changed our mind.

So we have absolutely nothing.  I have suggested a few things and he vetoes them.  He keeps mentioning Thor for a boy or Ripley for a girl (after Sigourney Weaver's character in Alien).  Quite a sense of humor my husband has.

  • I have always had Annabelle picked out for a girl, since I was like 12. It was my great grandmother's name and she was the sweetest lady. My husband always seemed to like it until last week when he said it sounded like a demon doll's name. Soooo we'll see how this goes....

Otherwise we have Emilia or Evie picked for girl, and Archer for a boy. Not sure on middle names yet. I won't stress too much until we know the gender. But it's going to be so hard!

  • How do you all feel about "made up" names? I usually hate them, but our top girl name is technically not real. I've looked it up online and everyone who has asked for feedback on this name has gotten pretty negative feedback. I think it's a beautiful name, but maybe a little too trendy for my taste.
  • @acciocoffee - For me, it really depends on the name. I figure all names were made up at some point, right?

  • @acciocoffee I also think it depends on the individual name. I’m definitely more a fan of traditional names, but every now and then I’ll hear a new name and really like it.

For us, we’ve had a girl name picked out since before I was pregnant with DS, but since he was a boy we didn’t get to use it. If it’s a boy, we’re screwed though. We used our one and only boy name that we both liked on DS, so now we’ve got nothing!

My DH wants Oden for a name. Our dog's name is Loki, I told him that would look silly. If we get another dog he can have an Oden.
  • We had a really hard time last time.  My husband vetoed hundreds of names lol. Last time we did not decide on DD name until I started pushing.  Her name is Eleanor Rae (Rae is my middle name and a family name).

Some girl names I like are:

    Charlotte (family name)
    Theresa (family name)
    Josephine
    Evelyn
    Emma
    Amelia

Boys names my husband always loved William Christopher.  I don't really like the middle name but its his middle name and his dads and his uncles so he is standing his ground on that one.

    Boy names I like:

    Benjamin
    Jack/Jackson
  • @acciocoffee I personally hate made up names, and TBH, I judge. Most people I know with made up names really hate them or like them ok as adults, but still wished their parents had named them something more traditional as it has generally made their lives a bit more difficult.
  • @kiwi2628 That's kind of how I feel! Ugh at least I have a long time to think about this.
  • @estellegetty preach. Sibsets are SO much harder than coming up with one name in a vacuum. Our first is Elsa (long story, but it was a perfect fit for our family) and she was born right when that fucking frozen movie came out. I tried to talk H out of it but he looked so heartbroken every time I brought it up. Anyway, when DD2 was born EVERY name we liked had some kind of Disney association, or contained the sound “ana” (Johanna, Mariana, etc). We went with Marie, and thought we were in the clear. Turns out one of the cats from the Aristocats is Marie. FML. I can’t win.

Anyway our lists for this nugget are:

    Issac
    Isaiah

    Grace
    April
    Remy
