Re: Name Thread 2.0

  • @slr1229 we haven’t decided... obviously. Lol. We will narrow it down to two or three and firmly decide when we meet him.

We have only 2 boy names that we can both kinda agree on : Mateo (Matt, Matty) and Massimo (Max, Massi)....ahhh..and still not sold on either one. I'm starting to get sad that we aren't falling in love with a name! We were set on a girl name, no issues there. But for a boy...so difficult. Yikes!

  • We also are having trouble picking out a name. We’ve narrowed it down to 4 and have the middle name chosen- we’re appeasing my MIL and going with the family name Anastasia for the middle. I’m just not sure I like our choices with it.
Our list in no particular order:
    Emma
    Luna
    Ruby
    Abigail
DD1 is Lily Elise and that was always her name. Now we’re entering the home stretch and still don’t have a name. Lily was named after the Harry Potter character so either Emma (as in Watson) or Luna would fit with it but I’m just not sold on how they sound with Anastasia. Suggestions are more than welcome too!
  • @maelily15 I love Luna Anastasia but then again we haven't named our own child :s

  • @maelily15 I love Abigail!  I think Ruby and especially Luna are suuuuuper trending right now.  Since your other LO has such a classic name I would want to stick with that and stay away from the trends.

We have decided on Caleb for twin B. With fraternal twin boys it's hard to pick something that sounds good together but not be too matchy matchy. I feel like Caleb is kinda popular though which saddens me (I've seen it pop up a couple times on TV recently) but there's no going back. Decision has been made and I've already started calling him by his name so it'd be weird to change it now. Now onto twin A...

    Names are so stressful!!!
  • We're having a boy and have settled on a first name (finally, as I feel like I need time to settle and feel comfortable with the name before baby comes...I don't think I could handle waiting to see him to decide), however it's not something either of us LOVE. It was my first pick for a boy name a few years ago when pregnant with our daughter (before finding out she was a she) and since then it still stuck with me as the only boy name I liked (didn't dislike). My husband is luke warm about it, but is OK with it. It's a classic name, but becoming more popular in the US, which doesn't bother me too much since it doesn't seem at the point where he'd always have someone with that name in his classes. I also have a middle name in mind, but again, we're not in love with it.

With our daughter, it seemed so much easier for us to find various female names we liked. It's just been so much more difficult with these boy names. And while there's some classic names I like, I don't like a lot of the usual nicknames that are inevitable to come with them.
  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake great choice!! That is my DS1's name and I loooove his name! It is definitely on the more common side, but honestly we don't run into too many others (and I live in a religious area so people really like the Bible names). Good luck picking the second name!
  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake that is the boy name we’re leaning towards... Caleb Reid.  Neither have family importance but DH likes Caleb.  I liked Jacob Cole but he seems to be winning this one.  I know just one Caleb so works for us.

girl names we think Morgan Leigh will be the winner.
  • @nancysimp both your boy names are really cute! We are in the same boat as you though.  We have a girl name we love, but completely stumped with boy names. The few we both kind of agree on, I’m not even that excited about & want to love the name. At this point I’m just hoping it’s a girl
  • I love the name Jacob (or Jake) as well but DH is Joseph Jacob and he doesn't want to do traditional so naming a baby after him is out. For baby A, DH loves Arlo. It's one of those names that is growing on me the more I think about it but we'll see. Caleb and Arlo. I like that they're both 2 syllables and semi unique.
  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake I just can’t get past Arlo from Justified.
  • Still haven’t even discussed.  We need girl and boy names and are leaning towards sticking with an “M” since my husband, daughter, and son all start with M. Any suggestions?
  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake I like Arlo! I don’t watch Justified though, so not sure the connotation @mdfarmchick has with it.

We are having a girl and leaning towards Madeline "Maddie" for her first name.  This name has a special meaning for DH and his sister and I like names that have a sentimental meaning or story behind them.   We've also been liking Willow and Sophia.  Middle name is still a toss up.  I like Joy but we also are considering June.  DH is a Jr. after his father and his family is always calling him Junior or June as a nickname.  We thought June might be a sneaky way of naming the baby after him.  Had this baby been a boy I would definitely veto DH "The Third" so this would be my way of compromising.

With DD #1, we did not decide on the name until she was actually born.  I just couldn't connect the name to the person until I saw her little face, and then I knew which one from our list felt right.  This baby will probably end up being a similar last minute decision.

  • @maelily15 I love all those girls' names! And definitely see your struggle in pairing them with Anastasia (which I also love as a name)... I personally don't love when the first and middle names have the same ending (like "BellA LunA" or something) or the same syllable length. But all your names are so pretty that it would work out lovely either way. (:
  • @maelily15 I really like the name Anastasia. Is that out for a 1st name instead of middle? Also I agree with @gh515 about the different endings for 1st and middle names, because there's a sing song-y ness that can result. That said, one of our twin boys is getting a first and middle name that both end in -er and even though I wasn't thrilled about that I got over it because the middle name was non negotiable and we loved the 1st name and decided the first and middle names were different enough in other ways so that it's not not too rhyme-y.
  • @mmom3, there’s so many M options! Micah works for a girl or boy. We briefly considered Madeline but decided it was too much of a mouthful with Anastasia. Marcus seems to be regaining popularity.
@gh515, yeah, that’s why we’re struggling so much. I kinda loved Hannah but that’s just way too matchy with Anastasia. @vflux33, We did consider Anastasia for a first name but the tradition is strictly a middle name plus we tend to like short easy to spell names for a first name. We briefly considered Rose (since Lily is also a flower) but vetoed that too. We’ll probably be another one who might just wait to see her chubby little face before deciding.
  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake oh I love Arlo!!
@mmom3 I was going to suggest Micah and Marcus too lol! Those are my favorite "M" names for a boy!
  • Team green....Good girl names to go with my daughters name: Skye ... help?!
  • @mountain_girl I dont know how you feel about matchy names but Skylar came to mind....I also love Addison.

You could stick with more nature inspired names.  Rosemary, Willow, Lily, etc
  • Wow you ladies are awesome! Great suggestions!
  • Soooo am I the only one left with no name picked?! 3 weeks left and this poor little boy is still just "the baby"
  • @bravoandprosecco we have 2 boy and 2 girl names.

  • @bravoandprosecco We haven't completely decided, but we have a few picked out. I'm sure the name will come to you when the time is right!
  • @bravoandprosecco we have 4 names we like but aren't dead set on any of them... so, no, you're not alone!
  • @bravoandprosecco echoing what everyone else said. You're not alone! We have a girl name (I think) but a couple boy names in the running. I've given up deciding ahead of time. It'll be a game-time decision over here!
  • Ugh ok thanks ladies, I feel like we will never find one!!!
  • We have not even discussed names because my husband wants if a boy to be named the 3rd.  Our son is a jr. named after him.  I’m not having 3 people in the same house named the same thing.   :(

Gahhh don't let him do it!  I have three students all with the same name after their dad.  The brothers HATE it and refuse to go by that name.  Kids need identities of their own.
  • @antoto - That’s why I refuse to even discuss anymore with him. I just can’t do a 3rd in the same house - like totally nuts. Our son is already named after him and I didn’t contest at all when he wanted that.

I talked a little with my mom because she’s pretty neutral and doesn’t push or pass judgement on what I liked.  My mom knows and likes my boy’s name.   :)
  • @mmom3 that’s crazy! My nephew is the 4th Max on my brother in laws side. They call him MJ instead of Max so it’s not quite so confusing I can’t imagine having 3 of the same name in one house.

  • @mmom3 oh man, that would be so confusing!!!! Nope.
  • I am so torn with names! I have loved the name Jack (Ryder) for a boy since I was a kid but of course now  that I'm having a boy it's everywhere lol. It's both my husband's and my first choice. Our back up name is Owen James but it's not love like our first choice. I grew up with a super popular name so it's a tough one for me!;
  • @epowell55 I love Jack Ryder and I wouldn't say it's that popular?
