Re: Weekly Randoms 1/1

  • @kmalls kill me now, honestly. I’ve already decided I’m not going to work and also rescheduled my OB appt which was supposed to be at 8:15 that morning. I love living in New England but good LORD am I already sick of winter.

  • @lindsye I was just reading about PANDAS the other day and talking to one of the doctors I work with about it! I had never heard of it before and I find it so interesting. I work with adults and not children but it’s such an interesting condition. I wonder if it gets diagnosed by mental health professionals most often or by Peds Doctors? I have been meaning to ask my co-worker about it who is our child/adolescent therapist.
  • @kmalls whatttttttt. It was 3-5 yesterday morning

  • Goodness, to everyone in the Northeast stay safe and warm! I thought we had it bad in Nebraska with the -20 (actual temp). I now regret my UO from last week saying I liked when it got cold out...
  • @bchalm stay warm! Ours kicked out overnight sometime. I'm waiting for the guy to get here.

@frenchiekinplusone omg i just saw that and am squee-ing like a fool. I love love love Chip and Joanna.

  • @kmalls We're the losers going to buy a snowblower tonight to brace for the storm.  We had one that was going to get repaired and the guy called to let us know he didn't think it was worth the money to put into it.  Of courseeeeee being new englanders we need the like $1400 one.  Brutal.

  • @ekendall09 oh man! Snowblowers are the worst, I feel like they break every year. And yeah, not even worth buying a cheap one because it won’t even last one winter. Sucks to spend the $$ but it’ll be nice to have tomorrow for sure.

...and I was the loser running out to market basket for “essentials” this morning with the rest of the world. Crazy busy for a Wednesday morning but nowhere near the crowds from the holidays. So...score?

I thought this was a worthwhile read for anyone unfamiliar with PANDAS - I had heard of it in passing but really wouldn’t have known what to look for in terms of one of my kids displaying symptoms of it. I definitely didn’t know it could potentially cause symptoms like anxiety and OCD.

  • @beach_mama my guy just left and won't be back until the morning to fix it. Another night in the 20's with space heaters. I'm going to buy another one after I get DD from school.
  • can't believe the september 18 birth month board has opened.  I feel like I hit another milestone everytime a new one is added!
I know! I thought the same thing today when I noticed our board had moved up the rankings.
  • @bchalm omg!!! Stay warm!!

Sadly we are not doing too much better here. After working on the heater for a few hours on and off it turns out it's not a heater issue. It's a gas issue. Either our meter went bad or something in it is frozen. Our gas company is supposed to come today but i have yet to hear anything which makes me not hopeful. We'll have to get space heaters too.

  • @kmalls we’re in the same boat here. All home and DD is hoping to get some quality snowman snow. We didn’t bake a ton of muffins but we’re on the slow cooker train so lets hope the power holds.

  • Whine! We have a 2 hour delay today so I’ll go in at 10, then leave at 1 for my ultrasound. I’m totally out of leave so I can’t just take those three hours off. Ugh what a waste!

@ladythrice Hahaha thank you for sharing your story!! You brightened my morning!

@Dumbgurl04 Your lazy coworker is just crazy. I thought some of mine were bad but she gives them a run for their money! I'm glad you have a different plan for maternity leave this time and not depending on her... she sounds like one of those all talk no action people.

@psuxray07 I sympathize!!! We use a daycare in Campbelltown that I really love (despite sometimes them doing doofy things like I mentioned in my WTF and only calling my work phone instead of calling DH or my cellphone when they couldn't get ahold of me....) but the price for 2 kids full-time is $1,500 with the 2 kid discount and there's just no point in working then because I'd be working for a few hundred dollars a month! I think that I am going to reduce both of them to 3 days a week and hopefully work out some kind of juggling act with my sister and DH and mine schedules that all magically works out.

Wait, is that $1,500 each kid or total? I will be paying $280 a week for daycare. Two for $1,500 would be a flipping bargain!
  • Heehee, conference calls are much more fun now when I can play belly poke with my baby to keep entertained.  She really gets into it.
    BabyFetus Ticker
  • @JJMNO1616 $280 is likely the rate for the infant room. Praise jesus once those kids hit 2 (and 3 and 4, etc) the price drops (a tiny amount :D) as they age into bigger/older rooms. Also, the more kids you have the bigger discount you get lol. At our center, DS is in the preschool room (full price) and DD1 is in the infant room (15% off). We also get a 5% discount for paying 6 months at a time. When DD2 starts, DD1 will be marginally less expensive in the 2-3 year old room and DD2 will have 25% off her infant room rates. The math is mind boggling to me...

As ridiculous as this is to say... I don't even know what my weekly rate is at this point... I just know I have an insane bill every six months and bury my head in the sand until it's time to pay. Our next bill is due in February... /sigh.

@babyclarke429 @okayrunner so I'm loving this underwear!  It covers my stupid love handles so it's not digging in looking muffintoppish, and it goes perfectly under my belly.  It feels so good not having anything on my lower stomach!  If you decide to order the ones I did from Amazon, make sure you pick the correct size.  Like, I had to order a XXL which fits pants sizes 10-12.  Don't look at the size chart, just pay attention in the drop down menu which pant sizes are which.

@peppersmith22 ahh it freaks me out when you put it in terms of monthly payments!  I just calculated mine and apparently infants have to be full time until they're 1, which sucks bc DS went part time as an infant (he still is PT bc H has off Wed and Thursdays, so that helps).  If I put her where DS is, it'd be $1696 a month.  If I put her in the daycare that is on my work premesis, it'd be $1568 between the both.  Once she hits 1, it drops a good deal.  I'm hoping I can find some type of care and transport for DS when he starts kindergarten that costs way less, bc we have no family near us.  I wish we did!

  • @JJMNO1616 I searched around to find one that was on the lower cost side. Infant room is $230, toddler room is $192 full time but we get that 10% second kid discount so for 4 weeks it's a little over $1,500. To me that is just insane, that's like double our mortgage payment and I can't even process it!

@psuxray07 We're priced out of the daycares around my work :( That would be so nice to have baby close though if you can pull it off! I told DH we have to wait to have a 3rd child until DS is in kindergarten haha
  • @peppersmith22 It's definitely an insane amount of money! In the world of daycare that's just the reality though... my H and I aren't going with the cheapest in our area or the most expensive. I think the cheapest we found was $230 a week but I didn't love that center. Once we are approaching kid #2 we may have to consider making some changes though because having two in daycare full time will essentially eat my entire paycheck.

  • Just here to make everyone feel a little better for daycare.....I paid $400 a week (4 days) for DD from infant until she moved to a more pre-k program around 3.  Shes in a pre-k program now 4 days a week and I think it still averages 300 a week.  We'll be around $375 a week for infant care next year and unsure about how much DD's after school program will be.  Thankfully she'll be headed off to kindergarten when this LO starts daycare full time.  Oh MA how I love your high cost of EVERYTHING.....

  • @ekendall09   :o:o:o

We're going to pay $1700 per month for DS and his baby sister, no second child discount because we go to a non-profit daycare and it's already much cheaper than the average going rate where we live. We really love DS's daycare though and considering it's cheaper than average around here, it's well worth the $$$ for us.

  • Lol @ekendall09 same here in the DC area, $395/week for DS and that’s at one of the more reasonable places. The top ones are $1800-2000/month. When we enroll DD we’ll be paying close to $3300 per month for two kids.
  • I just think it's crazy like I pay more for daycare in a year then I do for college part time.
  • Daycare cost is crazy!  It will be more than our mortgage when we have this baby, and I'm like...ummm, if I could afford this, I would have a huge freakin' house or 2 houses!
