@ekendall09 do you have a BJs membership? That’s our go-to for deli platters, they’re really good and not super expensive. They have an option that’s mini-croissant sandwiches with assorted deli meat. Highly recommend.
If you don’t have a BJ’s membership, Roche Brother’s in A is excellent. A bit more expensive but high quality. I ordered all the catering for my SILs baby shower there and it was great. I’ve also gone through Market Basket, which was also great (and economical!) but I feel like the presentation wasn’t quite as pretty.
Just an FYI, if any of you did buy a shirt or were wanting to (I have no idea who did and didn't, so just want to make sure I don't leave anyone out), my dad is placing the order for them on Friday, so they will be printed and then shipped. Just wanted you to know the timeline!
I also started a Caringbridge site if anyone wants to follow the baby's journey before and after birth :-) I am trying to keep it all in one place so I don't flood you guys with a bunch of stuff!
Ok this maybe me chuckle and annoyed me a little bit. So DH's best friend is getting married on March 24 (in a different state) and DH is the best man. I will be about 38 weeks and 5 days when this wedding happens. SO clearly i'm not going to the wedding. I told DH it is fine if he wants to go cause chances are I'll have GD and be induced the week after he gets back anyways. So far the plan is he is going to go. Well yesterday DD was just acting out like crazy and finally she got put in her room to scream and throw a fit. After I came back downstairs DH says "This is why I don't want to go" I looked at him all confused and asked going where? He said the wedding because he thinks I should be resting around the time and not chasing a toddler around. Then to myself I just started thinking "I'm a mom I don't get to rest" Also if i'm suppose to be resting why doesn't he jump up to help her go potty when she asks or help get her dinner together. I feel like even if he was here during that time I would still be doing what I do now. I did tell him out loud that my parents can help out if needed and he says he doesn't want to put too much on them especially since they will have DD with them the whole time I'm in the hospital. (Which I'm having lunch with my mom tomorrow so I can't wait to tell her this). So it kind of made me chuckle a little bit but also annoyed me. Although I will add he has stepped up and has helped with giving her a bath which has been great.
Holy bananas y'all, I am going to lose my mind before I get through this pregnancy. I have rhinitis SO bad. If it was just a stuffy nose I would shrug it off and just say "whatever". But nooooo, it's like I'm someone who is highly allergic to goose feathers, and I spend all day huffing geese. My eyes are so itchy and burn all day, while my nose itches like a demon and I sneeze like it's my job or something. And of course they can't just be normal sneezes, oh no. They have to be "hope you get a Kleenex in time or you are about to be hideously disgusting in front of everyone". Wtf body, we didn't have this last time!
@Dumbgurl04 I sure hope this wedding was scheduled before you knew about your pregnancy/were pregnant - otherwise i’d be ready to kill DH’s best friend.
Also, I found my husband stepped up a lot more after our second kid was born because he had to; our deal was often that I had the baby and he had the toddler, so whatever she needed he did for her. It helped him get used to doing everything he needed for the older kid(s) and it stuck even after the baby period was over. I hope the same happens for you!

@lindsye yes this wedding was planned quite a few months before getting pregnant. I figured I would be hit or miss on going depending if I was pregnant and how far along I would be at the time. I hope he does
Also I hope if there are any New York moms or ones that use the transportation system in new york for work here I hope you are ok. Just read about the bomb that went off at the port authority close to time square. It looks like there were only a few minor injuries but still scary.
I had the stomach bug all weekend and was laid up with that, but at one point I think I felt the baby kick so I screamed for my husband who came bolting into the living room and laid his head on my belly. i told him it was probably nothing and he told me not to take any of this from him, which promptly made me cry.
I have not bought a single Christmas gift so I would probably get on that. I am seriously the worst.
@Dumbgurl04 that is really sweet he cares that much he doesn't want to leave. I feel that if you're comfortable with him going and you know you have the help from your family if needed just sit down with him and talk. Let him know you are ok with him going and just reassure him.
@ngolimento is there anything the doctor can give you for rhinitis? I don't know much about it but it sounds miserable.

I have to ask at my next appt. There is a TON of conflicting info out there on how safe decongestants and antihistamines are. Which means nobody really knows. I have been just dealing with it, but it escalated over the weekend, and I am starting to worry I will injure my eyes from rubbing at them. I try to resist, but they itch SO badly.
@ngolimento rhinitis sucksss. I had it with DS, but it was mainly a stuffy nose to where I could use a breathe right every night. Now, a breathe right won't work, sneeze more than usual, post nasal drip so always clearing my throat, and morning cough. Oh, and apparently I've taken up snoring now bc I can't breathe. I'm so tired of it! My eyes don't bother me like yours though...what about benadryl? Maybe 1 pill instead of 2 during the day if it makes you really tired?
@ngolimento Rhinitis sounds awful. I'm sorry and hope you get some relief soon. I had a minor cold a few weeks back and that was enough for me to want to rip my nose off.
@ekendall09 Good for you! I'm a few gifts shy of being done and am excited about finishing up.
At my Dr's appointment last week, she asked what I was using on my stomach because it looked good. Granted, I know I have a ways to go for stretch marks to appear, but if anyone is interested, this is the stuff I've been using. I really like it. You just have to let your skin air dry for a little bit before you put your clothes on. https://thehealthyhoneys.com/diy-stretch-mark-cream/
@ekendall09 I just finished my shopping too, and I feel all sorts of proud of myself this year. Usually I am scrambling to get everything up until the last week.
I'm on the fence about the Fire 7 Kids Tablet. Anyone have one? Does anyone use Amazon FreeTime? Do you know if it includes access to video content on Nick Jr. and Disney Jr.? The tablet comes with one year free of FreeTime and it's worth it to me to pay for FreeTime if it means we have access to Nick Jr. And Disney Jr. content without a cable subscription.

@ngolimento I too have the rhinitis. Had it last pregnancy too. It's great to be sneezing and peeing myself all the time. It also leads to me gaging and still throwing up when it's more nasal drip. My dr told me last pregnancy I could try allergy medicine to see if it helped. I wouldn't take it because I was all on this all natural kick.
@ekendall09 are a 100 tiles enough to
Build with? Do you need two sets? I'm tempted to get them.
@ladythrice we have it and it’s great — Free Time is wonderful. That being said, the cord for charging the tablet is notoriously AWFUL and because of that, we haven’t had ours charged for like a year. I stupidly haven’t bothered to buy a replacement cord yet, but from the experiences of others it sounds like it may not be much better, anyway.
@ladythrice we have a kindle for DD. I don't pay for the free time they offer but they have a free time app that lets them only see certain apps. We have the cable supscripitions to both nick jr and Disney jr so I'm not sure if you get the full content from the apps I just thought the free time you pay for gives you access to all the apps without having to pay to download them. But I could be wrong

@Dumbgurl04 I think you might be right about this. I got all excited talking to DH and he was like, there's NO way we'll get access to that content without a cable subscription lol.

@kmalls is it a normal USB charge port or something different?

@ladythrice it’s USB charge port-ish. It’s smaller and a slightly different shape than a normal USB port. The cord doesn’t always fit the port correctly (which is what’s happened in our case) and the tablet won’t charge. I asked about this in a FB group I’m in and apparently a widespread issue. I could try to get it fixed but I ain’t got no time for that.
@kmalls they don't fix them anyway. When charge ports die, the answer is to buy a new device. I used to have to crush people with this discovery on a near- daily basis
@ekendall09 I am too! I am usually the person with the card out late and shopping on Christmas Eve. This year I have managed to get my cards out the week after Thanksgiving and I have all presents (even from Santa) wrapped and ready.
My random is a vent/woe is me so feel free to drive by my random. My parents moved my family to Nebraska when I was in high school. Since then I have made a lovely life for myself here with my H and kiddos. I got the call today that my parents are moving to Denver.... it is the easiest flight to where we live, but it just sucks. I was so busy at work today that I didn't have time to think about it, but now I'm so bummed and can't stop crying. My family is super close and I see them every week. I just can't imagine them not here, my mom not around when I'm bored, etc. It just really sucks and they will be gone when LO arrives. They say the move is only for 5-7 years, but that is a long time. DD#1 will be 11 or 13 when they return. It is just a total bummer, not something I envisioned myself dealing with. I can't really express my total disappointment to them as it is an AMAZING job opportunity for my dad and it is something he has worked his entire career to attain. I know this is going to be hard on my mom so I don't want to her to feel any worse than I know she already does, so I'm just whining because poor H has had to listen to me wallow for the past month while my dad decided what to do.
For those that live away from their parents - tips on how to stay in touch, especially when kids are involved? Is Facetime really helpful?
@ladythrice We've had his kindle for 2 years and love it. I never noticed the free time charge until recently and it was like $3 something, lol. It has a lot of shows, not sure what all they can find, but there's a ton and my son loves finding things to watch. You can also get Netflix, Hulu, etc on it, so he'll go on there and find his shows too. Also, the games are pretty cool! He's learned a lot from them. As for the charger, we've never had an issue (except I think ours didn't come with a charger for some reason). It charges perfectly fine with our phone chargers, which is android.
@angiek1 I’ve never had local family. (And like it that way, I need space) but we personally FaceTime every couple weeks or so. It’s better than nothing in my opinion but I understand it won’t be the same for you.
@angiek1 I have a similar situation with my family now - we intentionally live close by them, see them all the time/they do a ton to help with our kids and it is wonderful. I am so sorry your parents are going to move, because although I know it’s a normal thing lots of people deal with, it would be really hard on me and my kids as well. Could at least your mom arrange to be back for around the time or soon after your new LO is born and stay with you for a bit? Hugs to you.

@angiek1 my situation is similar to @lindsye’s — my parents are 10 minutes from us and we see each other at least 3-4 times per week. I can’t imagine how emotionsl it would be for them to move away, and I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. It’s hard.
That being said, my parents are snow birds and spend a lot of time in Florida over the winter (though less now that they have grand kids). While it’s absolutely tough not to have them down the street when I need a break or I just want to hang out or a kid is sick and they take one while I bring the other to the pedi, you’ll be shocked how resourceful you get. And yes, FaceTime is gold. We FaceTime every morning and the kids love it, and it does bridge the distance. It’s not the same as just popping over to their house, but you’ll make it work. It will become your new normal and everyone will adjust, I promise!
@sparklingdiamond what did you decide for the preschool teachers? I also need ideas! I might just get one of those cute little sets from bath and body works. Maybe their stress relief lotion LOL
Edit: @angiek1 My cousins use facetime all the time to keep in touch with her parents who live in Australia. I just wanted to say, if they are involved grandparents they will find a way to stay involved. We are blessed that my parents are involved grandparents. My ILs live 5 minutes away and we barely see them. I am convinced that they don't like children.
@ngolimento so I have been dealing with the same....super hardcore congestion all the time. I have to blow my nose like several times an hour, and the feeling of mucous in my throat makes me gag which makes me puke...the vicious cycle. What has helped me is diffiusing essential oils at bedtime and also there is a store here that sells essential oil blends in little roller balls and sprays for different things. I bought one called “head cold” and put it under my nose, on the back of my neck and my feet and it’s axtjsllt helped a lot. I’m not one to buy into the whole essential oil thing and I don’t believe they’re a replacement for medication but since we can’t take anything else i thought it was worth a try.
