@JJMNO1616 totally agree about that. It just seemed during his entire presidency they refused to work with him at all. Sure not all his ideas were amazing but I feel he would have been open to working with them and they just refused. Hopefully people finally see that GOP isn't looking out for them and they go out and vote.

So let me be clear, I’m as Democrat as they come, but I think it’s a little bit of a fallacy to assume Democrats were willing to work with Republicans during the Obama era. For example, while the ACA had some input from Republicans in the form of amendments, ultimately it passed without a single Republican vote. Not one. I think the partisanship FOR SURE runs both ways.

I don't think any of the Republicans would have voted for anything Obama wanted to do though even if they thought is wasn't that bad of an idea/plan. I honestly think the Republicans decided very early on in Obama's presidency that they were going to do everything possible to stop him from doing anything. Voting yes to anything Obama wanted to do would have hurt all of their reputations. No Republican wants to be seen supporting a Democrat these days... it's political suicide.

I agree, but my argument is that the partisanship runs both ways. Nothing stopped Democrats from reaching across the aisle and figuring out some compromises that would ensure votes. Furthermore, when it came to judicial nominations, Democrats rammed through a rule change that effectively put an end to filibustering. When Republicans did the same thing this term, Democrats lost their minds. I just think putting a mirror up to ourselves is sometimes useful, as the finger-pointing in politics is clearly getting the country nowhere.
Yeah our politics are for sure too factional now. I listened to a good NPR piece on an old retired senator who was boggled by the modern refusal to work across the aisle. It used to be how things were done, and somewhere along the way everyone lost their damn minds, and anything moderate is now poison.

I do think Democrats tried to reach across the aisle and made some compromises. The ACA turned out to be something MUCH different then what was originally hoped for and imo not as effective/helpful because of some of those compromises. So I guess I don't know if there is much of anything the Dems could have done to actually ensure votes. I didn't realize that Democrats made a rule change regarding filibustering though. If Dems changed the rules then why did the Republicans need to change the rules? Wouldn't they have already been changed?
@JJMNO1616 Democrats changed the filibuster rules for lower-level judicial nominations. Republicans changed it for Supreme Court nominations. It’s referred to as “the nuclear option.”

I consider myself a moderate and people from both sides act like I am stupid. I voted third party in the election because I hated both candidates and I get the whole "you wasted your vote, blah, blah". IMO, I thought the whole point of an election was to vote for who you think the best candidate would be. If I thought neither of the main parties was, why should I be forced to vote for either of them? I guess my whole point is I agree with this statement, but totally think moderate is where more people should be.
@sparklingdiamond I am a moderatish liberal and I have to say I really hate modern politics. Everyone is so insanely extreme that nothing good shakes out. Like gun control. Any time you suggest that fucking military grade weapons shouldn't be available to citizens, you get mobbed by people who are all "no guns at all!" and crazy shits that are all "Don't take all my guns!". No middle ground, just extremist reactions. I'm from a very rural upbringing and I believe guns are 100% necessary for farm life (all this evil dicks who abandon dogs create extremely destructive and dangerous wild packs that prey on livestock), but what the actual fuck to people with "high body count" weapons?
@ngolimento Yes totally agree. No one in the middle. It seems to only be the extremes on both sides that come out with all issues and of course they aren't going to get along. But then they won't listen to the people in the middle.

Also abandoned dogs make me so sad
Yeah, the majority of attacks on livestock are by feral dog packs. The worst part about it is that a lot of folk blame the attacks on wolves. Unless you live in Alaska, then your cows are being eaten by Grizzlies .
Agree that extremists take things way to far. I leave more towards the liberal side but there are things on the other side I can agree with. Just like gun control there are ways to get gun control with out taking guns away or make it harder for law abiding citizens. But some people don't want to hear it. They want their way or no way and sadly nobody wants to compromise anymore. And yes @kmalls it seems like Democrates can be just as bad when it comes to working with Republicans. So hopefully with up coming elections we can start to get people who want to listen to both sides and just do what's right for the people of the country.
Today is our 10 year dating anniversary and we are going to dinner and seeing Star Wars! DS is staying with grandma, so we get a kid free night. I am so excited!
@sparklingdiamond ahhh that sounds amazing! I’ve been thinking about asking my parents to take the kids for a night so we can do the same thing. Have fun!
@Dumbgurl04 that’s exactly a week after my own wedding anniversary. STOP STEALING MY LIFE, MEGHAN MARKLE.
...as for me, i’m bringing the kids to meet my mom for lunch in a few minutes. @ekendall09@frenchiekinplusone I am meeting her at the Natick Mall, so if I don’t come back you know why
@ekendall09 we survived, barely. It was mobbed. I don’t know how well you know that mall, but there’s a kiosk with these damn mechanical puppies outside Gap Kids that DS is obsessed with. I have to drag him away every time. Well, my mom bought each of them a puppy today so all I’ve heard for the last 2 hours are these stupid puppy yips and I want to scream. So don’t send a search party, send...Valium? That’s pregnancy-safe, right?
@kmalls I know exactly where you are talking about and we avoid talk of purchase everytime. Those are the "just for looking stations" in our house! You poor thing! Also did you grab truffles/macaroons at the store right across from there? They are delish!
Lol I just realized the royal wedding date is NOT exactly a week after my anniversary, it’s 9 days. I’ve only been married 3.5 years and already can’t remember my own damn wedding date
Great minds think alike, and I think like a royal. DS was born weeks after Charlotte (which I would love that name for this girl but DH vetoed it). This baby will probably be born weeks after Kate's. And my wedding anniversary is in May as well.
What about the fact that Christmas is only 10 days away.... how crazy is that?! This year has flown by. I am happy this year I feel up to speed with gifts and not panicking.
I often get curious what would happen if we just had a Democrat President run the blue states and a Republican President run the Red states, what would happen.

I’m irrationally ragy at my husband right now for eating the last of the bread and bagles. Two days in a row I have gone to make breakfast to discover one of the main staples for my meal was gone! Don’t men realize they can’t eat the last of anything when there is a pregnant lady in the house?

Hope everyone had a good weekend! I’m not a big Star Wars person, but DH and I went to it this afternoon. It was actually pretty good! We went to the comfy chair theater, but having my feet up shoved babies into my lung space lol. Hope everyone else who was planning on going enjoyed it!
@g_makes I saw it Thursday night. It was fun but sitting in a super crowded theater for over 2 hours it got uncomfortable at the very end.
@Dumbgurl04 that is such s good point! We were planning to see it Wednesday at our tiny local theater, but now that you mention it there’s no way I’ll be able to sit in those old rickety seats for 2+ hours. Cushy, new theater it is!

I kind of want to get a few copies of the book for those times when only a snarky book will do...
Anyone else ready???
