@kaymaroo hmm thanks for the input! I’ve toyed with just doing Jack for that very reason (nn confusion) but I’m very traditional when it comes to names and just can’t get on board with it. If it’s not a saint or an English monarch, it’s just not an option in my book lol
@sassygirl51486 DS has 2 middle names. An actual middle name and my last name (I didn’t take DH’s last name). We’ll be doing the same for DD. She’ll have a first name, a middle name, my last name as her middle name and then my husband’s last name. It’s worked well for us. No complications.
Both DH and I are passing on our middle names to the babies. But... instead of just ‘Marie’, I am adding the name of a friend who passed around the time we decided we wanted kids. So little girl will be Hattie Annmarie.
@priestess619 - Harper was top of our list also, but (like you), it’s popularity knocked it down. I have a niece named Delaney - love the name.
We have been having an awfully hard time coming up with a girl name. There are a ton of names I like, but none that I LOVE. The ones my DH likes, I don't like. And the ones I REALLY like, DH doesn't like. It's been a constant battle.
Anyways, I'm wondering what all of you think of the name Bexley (or, Bexlie...would figure out spelling later)? It was a name on my original list, but got put off to the side to discuss others. Now my DH is saying he is on board with it, but now I'm not too sure! DS has an "x" in his name, so I thought it would be cute to keep with that. Any other suggestions are welcome!
Ok guys I need some help! We had such a hard time picking names the first time around and baby #2 is not proving any easier!! We wont know the gender of the baby until it is born so we have to come up with a boy and a girl name - I try talking about it with hubby but we always end up joking and just coming up with the weirdest names possible, then we laugh and laugh and it gets dropped and we have accomplished nothing! LOL Where are you guys searching for names? We don't want names that everyone else is going to have but we don't want super trendy names either. Both of us are drawn to classic or traditional names ... so far our top names are Andrew & Matthew for a boy and our wild card is Isla for a girl. We both love it but I'm so afraid people will constantly say it and spell it wrong
@marieruth83 Isla is actually becoming a pretty popular name these days. I think people will recognize it and know how to say and spell it but I guess the question is do you want to risk naming her something popular! I'm not sure where it is on the rankings but I have heard that name mentioned a lot recently as a baby name.
@marieruth83 there are a lot of great apps for names on the phone. We used Charlies names which is really cool because you and your hubby can link the lists you create via the app. Baby names genius is cool too or really any online name sites. Love Isla and don't think it'd be a problem for anyone. Check the social security name database you'll see how that name has gone up in popularity. Good luck!
@jbn999 I think Bexley is cute! I had to take a minute to think on it because I've never heard it before. I have to say a girl name with an X that I love is Beatrix. My husband also loved the name Trixie but I couldn't get on board. I understand lots of boy names I like but not a lot I love.
@peppersmith22 The threads I was reading were from a few years back, so it may be that it just wasn't that popular then...not that its crazy popular now, but its in the top 100. People were saying "can you imagine a 40 yr old named Paisley?" I like it....just also dont want to be naive to other's opinions.
@jbn999 I like Bexley too! It sort of reminds me of an updated Betsy?
@scuba_chic People could say that about a lot of names though! I mean people probably said that about Jessica and Tiffany when those names were popular (just making up random examples). I don't think it's that out there.
I like bexlie being that its different and to me it is very cute sounding....Would you call her Bex for short?? The top name on our list right now besides Brielle is Brittney/Brittany? Whats everyone's take on that ? I know it might be original but doesn't seem at all as common these days, plus it goes really well with Bradley (DS's name)-They sound really cute together i think!

@mmmmkay I agree with @g_amoss - Kai Alexander is my favorite. The rest of the names seem more traditional (I love traditional names usually- DD has a traditional name) and I think that LN Smith might be more interesting if paired with a less traditional option- Kai Alexander Smith. Yes.
Also, thank you @lesliegolem for mentioning Charlies Names. I just downloaded it (PGAL has had me holding out on thinking about names at all until after our a/s this week) and I think we may already have a serious contender. Pretty good since we had nothing a few hours ago!
@mmmKayy love love Eli! But I feel like Isaac goes best with Emmeline personally. Not a fan of Kai but maybe cause I just watched Kung fu panda 3 and he's the bad guy! Lol I am sure most people won't think that though haha. Benji is super cute too.
Chosing a name for us wasn't difficult. My boyfriends father and my grandfather are both terminally ill. So we took one name from each. We never even chose a girl name. Our son will be William John.

Hi Knottie! When you get a chance please log into theknot and change your SN to something more identifiable. This will help us recognize you more easily. You may have to log out of TB and then log back in before it changes your name.
@mcb2016 I understand completely. My first DD is Sabrina and it was below 500 in popularity but not much when we used it. Then my DD2 came and I loved loved loved the name Aria. Of course it was ranked in the 20s lol. I decided to use it because she just felt like an Aria. So if you find something you love I'd use no matter what still! You can search for the stats in your state as well and really there's so many names and people I doubt there will be 5 kids with the same name in 1 class growing up. Good luck!
So we're having a girl and I just wanted to throw out some beautiful names that some of the newest additions to my community have received, because they are gorgeous and unfortunately I can't use them and be a copy-cat (we live in a veeeeery small community). They are all girl names: Avonlea, Nova, Saskia, and Giselle
Ok I need some help. We are having a hard time coming up with names (team green). Without revealing too much, our last name is incredibly long and begins with ock.......... This makes really unfortunate nicknames. With DS, DH loved the name Charlotte. I just couldn't picture a little girl running around with C. Ock.......... as her first initial last name. Can you imagine cock.......... @anyuniversity.edu as your email address? yikes! Thank god Will and Kate named their little girl Charlotte and stole that thunder.
We need a short name to balance out the long last name and preferably start with a vowel so we don't make any obscene nicknames! Help!
Experiencing infertility means you have a looong time to think of names....so when we found out we were having a boy it was decided! He will be Oliver Robert Mitchell. Robert is my FILs name and DHs middle name, Mitchell was my dads name (he passed away). So he will have both his grandfathers names.

Oh this will be challenging!!! I did laugh when you started talking about the university emails. You could start with a D name and it would be “D.ock” could be a cute nickname too
@RiverWhispering love Giselle my cousins just used it for their little girl. Nova is very nice too.
@shireeallason just throwing suggestions out what about Aria, Elise, Evie, Maya, Myla, Olivia, Selene something like that for a girl was trying to think of names with a lot of vowels.
For boys Ari, Edwin, Eli, Finn, Rory. I'll try to think of more! I struggle with boy names more than girl ones lol.
We have had the hardest time with names for our baby girl-- I hate everything MH suggests, he doesn't like anything I pick, etc. I think that we finally came up with one that we both really love tonight and I'd love to get opinions...
Ainsley Reese
DD is Alice Grace. We didn't plan on choosing two A names, but this is seriously the first first name that we both like-- and we both really like it. Is it super weird having two girls both with A names? This will be our last baby, so we aren't planning on having a Kardashian-like compound full of A named children or anything like that.
Edit to remove question about middle name spelling- I was confused about wether Reese or Reece was the traditional feminine spelling but clarified via google!
