  • @sparklingdiamond I have my echocardiogram schedule next week (21+5w) with my MFM. It’s the same time we did it last time and they were able to see all the chambers etc.
I would definitely listen to what’s FL office is telling you. You could always double check with them. Also, have you looked into non profits who deals with that type of problems? They might be able to help you for some of the costs. Good luck!
  • @danjoly Yes actually, the nurse of the doctor I am going to see told me the name of two different charities that help with CDH.  One of which specifically helps people trying to get to this doctor!
  • Just found my coffee jackpot combo. Toasted almond and coconut with almond milk. Today’s comutte just got a whole lot better
@ekendall09 WHAT that sounds magical. I just dropped off DS and am heading to get coffee now. Is that a DD creation or somewhere more fancy?
  • @peppersmith22 yes that's my plan. I realize the timing isn't great but i really want to get back to this employer. Long story short: i used to work w them until a year ago when there was a company split/sale/merger to a new company. I didn't want to leave but i didn't have a choice as an "asset" to the sale.

  • Ugh, my DS turns 3 in two weeks... y'all are making me nervous...
FWIW, my kids start their defiant process really early (16 months) but by three they are actually significantly improved. Two is the year from hell for my little darlings.

  • I just had to transfer $3700 out of my savings account and into my escrow account.  I don't want to adult anymore.  Stupid property taxes.
  • Stupid question @sparklingdiamond but will your current ob office not accept an echo done in Florida? If they did, I would only do one if things come out okay.
I was high risk during 3rd trimester with dd and honestly by the end I was done with all of the ultrasounds and wanted myself and the baby to be left alone. Personally,  I wouldn't opt for extra scans if they would accept the echo from the specialist.
  • @rklinge0 Yes I both like and hate all the u/s I have to get done.  They said that they wanted the report from FL, but still might make me do one here.  I don't know why she seems so untrusting of this doctor.  He is at freaking Johns Hopkins, a notable hospital.  My OB was like cool, if you found a specialist, you go do what you need to do.

Toddlers go through "the defiant phase" at their own leisure.  Some at 2, some at 3 or later.  My kiddo started around 2, and goes through spurts.  She seems to be through the worst of it though.  I can't complain about her defiance, because she naturally has a sweet disposition, and I know other people have it much worse.  Usually if I can avoid her triggers, she is pleasant.

I'm going to hope DS has entered it already then. How much worse can it get than to me sitting on the floor crying while he's screaming telling me to leave him alone?! (Our worst incident... which resulted in my ordering 3 different toddler parenting books :D)

  • Anyone else with a 3-ish toddler going through sleep issues? DS will be 3 in February and typically he sleeps like a champ. We plop him in his crib (he’s a unicorn that still loves his crib) and walk away and he’s quiet until morning.

...that is, until last Wednesday night when all of the sudden the kid won’t sleep. Just won’t do it. He screams and jumps out the second we leave the room. I’ve tried letting him cry it out (failure, he just stands at the gate at his door screaming at us), putting him back in bed over and over and over again, rocking him in the glider, yelling back at him from the bottom of the stairs (not my finest parenting moment), nothing works. We’ve resorted to laying on the floor next to him until he falls asleep, which sometimes takes HOURS. We have to do it in shifts because I can’t stand the floor for that long.

He does the same thing with naps, too, and it’s brutal. We’re definitely getting him a twin bed ASAP, but I don’t know if that’ll fix the problem.

Is it the age? Am I failing as a mother? HALP.
  • @kmalls, I've feel like we've been dealing with one sleep issue after another ever since DS turned 2  :s
We're definitely staying with him in his room until he falls asleep now, and I have no idea how we're going to get out of that. It used to take hours for him to fall asleep with us in there, but now it can take as little as 15 minutes (still sometimes an hour though). We got his twin mattress in yesterday, and I think we're going to switch his bed out tomorrow. Depending on how the twin mattress goes, we might try to train him to sleep without us there. We've done CIO with him before, but it didn't work so great this time around, hence why we've been in his room until he falls asleep. Naps are so hit or miss, he's definitely skipped them sometimes. I don't have much advice, but I totally feel your pain!

  • Oh my gosh...

So my husband travels for work. Once, sometimes twice a month. He always lets me know when he is taking off/landing.

I said goodbye to him to him this morning—his flight left around 9:45 . I get the kids to school, I come to work, and about an hour ago, I started getting a horrible feeling. I had visions of plane crashes and I started panicking.

He just texted me that he landed safely, but NOT where he was supposed to land. At almost the exact same time that I started having horrible images and panicking, their plane tried landing three times in Jackson, Mississippi and couldn’t due to storms.

So he’s safely on the ground in Mobile, Alabama Instead.

I'm more than a little freaked out! Intuition is weird!
  • @mikkimikey My husband travels for work today and leaves tonight for a week :frowning:  I am glad your husband is safe!  Intuition is super weird!

    @icalynn Aww yay!

@irenejean that’s exactly what I’m afraid of: that once he’s in the habit of one of us staying in his room until he falls asleep, it will be impossible to break. I’m an absolute crazy person when it comes to sleep training when my kids are tiny, mainly in an attempt to avoid bad sleep habits. I feel at a total loss here!
  • @kmalls we dealt with MAJOR sleep issues with DD2 for her entire second year - I think it was her age combined with the arrival of her younger brother. We tried so many things, and she did plenty of CIO basically by necessity (I had a newborn for a lot of that period that I had to take care of). One thing to try if he seems interested: we let her pick out a tent (with a small mattress in it) that she could sleep in but if she screamed, we were going to take it away. We told her she could talk, sing and play with the stuffed animals in her tent for as long as she wanted to until she fell asleep; she just had to stay in her tent and she couldn’t scream. We also had a video monitor and made (and still make, really) a million trips up to her room after bed time. It was truly one of the most frustrating parenting experiences i’ve been through so far, though, and i’m so sorry you’re having to go through it. :(

  • @lindsye that’s a really good suggestion. We were going to let him pick out his bed at the store with the hope that it would get him excited, but maybe something even more interesting, like a tent, would help. Make him feel like it’s a treat for him to sleep there. Thank you!
  • @kmalls my DD will be 3 at the end of January and she loves her crib and we haven't switched it yet.  But recently we've been having to lay down on the floor as well to get her to fall asleep.  I once got her to fall asleep in the crib while I rocked in the glider because I can't do the floor anymore.  I'm not sure if its the age and there's a lot of things going on but I feel you're pain.  Hang in there, you got this  <3

AFM We are under a wind advisory with possible power outages right now.  The wind is so bad I went to open our side door and the storm door practically ripped out 3/4 of our door frame.  It was so bad I had to call my brother to come over and just pull the rest of the frame  (and the freaking door) off the house because it was not going back.  On top of that I'm dealing with some major pelvic pain and debating on calling my doctor.  I convinced myself to sit on the couch as much as possible for the rest of the day and order pizza tonight because I just can't do today.
  • @mikkimikey - glad YH is safe!

@icalynn - congrats on feeling baby moving!

  • @beach_mama Congrats on the third interview! I say definitely no need to tell them until you have an offer in hand. It's illegal to discriminate but I've seen it happen so many times. You don't need to feel bad about looking after your interests and your rights. Good luck!
  • @kmalls, I've been trolling the news all afternoon and it's just depressing me. I didn't see the Russia ban! One ray of light on the otherwise dismal news today?!

  • @sjn00 Ugh for us three was the worst! So much attitude and sass and zero regard for consequences. I wish I had some advice, but all I can say is hang in there, it will get better!

@kmalls Yes DS had major sleep problems starting at around that age too. I admit I gave in and let him sleep in my bed when it got bad and no I don't recommend it. I mean he slept like a champ when he was in there, but breaking him of the habit was awful (he still asks to sleep in bed with me even though he hasn't been allowed to in over a year). I read somewhere that around 3 is when nightmares really start up, so maybe that's the problem? I gave DS an extra nightlight in his room and spent a looooooot of time talking about real vs. imaginary. I think it helped a little but clearly not enough.

  • I'm actually sort of bummed about the Russian ban thing but only because I'm a die-hard gymnastics fan (former gymnast and coach myself) and a huge fan of Russian gymnastics in particular. No Russian gymnasts have been caught or even accused of doping as far as I know, so I'm sad for those girls possibly missing out on the opportunity to compete in 2020.

@klburke88 I'm pretty sure its just the 2018 winter olympics at this point, not the 2020 summer. I could be mistaken though!
