It’s not a scam. I grew up in WI and it was not something I’d ever heard of until living here. Homes here (OK) rarely have basements and don’t build below frost lines like they do in colder climates, so they actually are more at risk in the freezing temps. I’ve never had a frozen pipe before until I moved here.

Haha, just asked my husband as we used to live in Nor Cal and used faucet covers, but not here in Alaska. Apparently there are faucets that turn off inside the house envelope rather than right where the handle is, so we don't need them. Who knew?!
Tonight is also our first freeze, I was going to just have the faucets drip all night. It was snowing at DD'S bedtime tonight, so she didn't get to see, made me sad. I was just telling a friend I was worried living in TX she wouldn't get to see real snow. I haven't seen snow since we moved here.
@rmmorris Picture of my backyard. The kids in town have a flipping snow day! My neighbors were out playing in the snow before I even got out of bed lol!
Our backyard in Houston! Apologies to everyone for whom this is business as usual. I woke my kids up early to go play in it and everyone here is SO excited!

@sparklingdiamond I wasn't sure what a faucet cover was at first too. I live in Michigan so we can turn the water off down in the basement at the pipeline. Since we don't use it all winter it just stays off.
@JJMNO1616 I like your backyard! But I have to giggle that only that much snow caused a snow day! I realize warmer cities don't have the resources which is why they call it BUT it's still hard for to wrap my mind around it.
@mispanda Thanks! The snow day was completely unnecessary!! The roads were fine but it may be more of an issue that kids don't have the proper attire to be standing out at bus stops. It seems like my district closes for any little inclement weather issue though. So that will be fun when my kids are in school.
Haha one of my friends just moved to TX from PA and posted a letter on her facebook that her apartment complex sent around about not putting your heat below 55 degrees and turning your faucets on to drip. I never heard of such things! I love snow!! We haven't gotten any yet, we had a few snowflakes last night but nothing that laid!
We live in MD and faucet covers are definitely a thing here. The pipes under our kitchen sink will absolutely freeze when we get below 20. We wrap them in warm towels and leave them dripping when we go to work.
Love the pictures of snow! We are supposed to have our first snow of the year tonight. Just wish it was on a Monday or Tuesday and not a Saturday!
randomness - I was in Old Navy checking out the clearance racks for things I can alter and found a maternity dress. The tag said $36 so I had the cashier check it and it rang up as $3.90 because it was an Internet return. Yup, $4. I'm so proud of myself.
We are suppose to get snow tomorrow here in Indiana. I love seeing the snow pictures
my randomness for today is the soundtrack for The Greatest Showman was released today and I have listened to it 3 times and I just love the music I'm pretty excited to see it later this month. Also i'm even more excited to see The Last Jedi next week, so it just needs to be next week already.
Add me to the snow club, we’re supposed to get some in MA tomorrow. I realized this morning that neither kid has snow boots that fit, so my mom and I packed them up and went to Nordstrom Rack (which, if you have one close to you, is amazing for kid’s stuff). Ummmm I got DD, who is 1, the CUTEST boots on the planet. Little tiny baby boots are just about the best thing ever. I can’t wait until it snows and she can use them.
Random question: is anyone else here getting direction from their OB to not attend loud movies? I am super bummed that I already missed Thor and Justice League. Now I have to miss Star War top, and I am pretty down about it.
I've looked it up online, and there is a lot of stuff out there confirming action movies get way above safe decibels.
@ngolimento I've never heard that. My OB did tell me I couldn't go in the ocean when I was pregnant with DS. My husband wants me to ask if I'm allowed to go snow tubing lol. I said I'm pretty sure that they will say no to that one.
Another S. Texas chick here....N. Texas up around the panhandle is used to seeing snow, but further south, this is a rare occasion for us and we all are thoroughly enjoying it. Just glad we don't have to live with it months out of the year and shovel it all the time.
@JJMNO1616 I LOVE your backyard....all those palm trees. Paradise! We have a pool, but need to do more to make it look like a resort.

@luna8433 I have literally never seen that much snow in my life! Originally from GA and have lived in TX for 5 years.
