Lol we have to put them on the outside faucets (they are covers) to keep them from freezing and possibly the pipes freezing.

  • @sparklingdiamond I've never heard of it either lol, and I'm in PA and it gets pretty cold here.  What state do you live in?

  • I bet your houses are built more for cold weather than ours.  We are in TX where it rarely freezes!
  • @sparklingdiamond this seems like a scheme perpetrated on those in warm climates
  • @allowachick Probably!  Because none of us want to risk pipes that burst!  That sounds scary and expensive!
  • Oh I was wondering why people up North don't need them.  Is it because they have basements?
  • @sparklingdiamond @okayrunner I think it's the below frost lines thing
  • Haha, just asked my husband as we used to live in Nor Cal and used faucet covers, but not here in Alaska.  Apparently there are faucets that turn off inside the house envelope rather than right where the handle is, so we don't need them.  Who knew?!
  • @sparklingdiamond - also, a lot of faucets/spigots are ‘frost proof’ -here anyway lol!

  • Tonight is also our first freeze, I was going to just have the faucets drip all night. It was snowing at DD'S bedtime tonight, so she didn't get to see, made me sad. I was just telling a friend I was worried living in TX she wouldn't get to see real snow. I haven't seen snow since we moved here.
  • @rmmorris We are in Austin and totally thought the same thing. DD has a light jacket but nothing even remotely close for a real winter.
  • @rmmorris I hope your DD enjoys her first snow.. how fun!
@JJMNO1616 Ah, that is an amazing picture!  :D
  • I was so hoping for some snow up here in the Dallas area!
  • @sparklingdiamond I wasn't sure what a faucet cover was at first too.  I live in Michigan so we can turn the water off down in the basement at the pipeline.  Since we don't use it all winter it just stays off.

@JJMNO1616 I like your backyard!  But I have to giggle that only that much snow caused a snow day!  I realize warmer cities don't have the resources which is why they call it BUT it's still hard for to wrap my mind around it.

  • I was going to post a pic but half my yard has already melted. But I did get a pic last night on DH's phone.

@luna8433 I have literally never seen that much snow in my life! Originally from GA and have lived in TX for 5 years.
  • Now it is 25 here this morning, which is cold for us in TX!
  • @mispanda Thanks! The snow day was completely unnecessary!! The roads were fine but it may be more of an issue that kids don't have the proper attire to be standing out at bus stops. It seems like my district closes for any little inclement weather issue though. So that will be fun when my kids are in school.

  • No snow yet in NH, we're supposed to get some tomorrow. Loving all the pictures of snow!

  • Haha one of my friends just moved to TX from PA and posted a letter on her facebook that her apartment complex sent around about not putting your heat below 55 degrees and turning your faucets on to drip. I never heard of such things! I love snow!! We haven't gotten any yet, we had a few snowflakes last night but nothing that laid!

We live in MD and faucet covers are definitely a thing here. The pipes under our kitchen sink will absolutely freeze when we get below 20. We wrap them in warm towels and leave them dripping when we go to work.

Love the pictures of snow! We are supposed to have our first snow of the year tonight. Just wish it was on a Monday or Tuesday and not a Saturday!

  • Add me to the snow club, we’re supposed to get some in MA tomorrow. I realized this morning that neither kid has snow boots that fit, so my mom and I packed them up and went to Nordstrom Rack (which, if you have one close to you, is amazing for kid’s stuff). Ummmm I got DD, who is 1, the CUTEST boots on the planet. Little tiny baby boots are just about the best thing ever. I can’t wait until it snows and she can use them.
  • @ladythrice OOH you'll have to report back on how her shows are! I love her music

Random question: is anyone else here getting direction from their OB to not attend loud movies?  I am super bummed that I already missed Thor and Justice League.  Now I have to miss Star War top, and I am pretty down about it.

I've looked it up online, and there is a lot of stuff out there confirming action movies get way above safe decibels.

  • @ngolimento I've never heard that. My OB did tell me I couldn't go in the ocean when I was pregnant with DS. My husband wants me to ask if I'm allowed to go snow tubing lol. I said I'm pretty sure that they will say no to that one.
  • @ngolimento I’ve never heard of that either! Is your OB super cautious in general?
  • @ngolimento I have never heard that either and we are supposed to go see Star Wars next week...
  • Another S. Texas chick here....N. Texas up around the panhandle is used to seeing snow, but further south, this is a rare occasion for us and we all are thoroughly enjoying it.  Just glad we don't have to live with it months out of the year and shovel it all the time.

@JJMNO1616 I LOVE your backyard....all those palm trees. <3<3<3 Paradise!  We have a pool, but need to do more to make it look like a resort.
