You guys, at the tender age of 18 months, DS slept through the night for the first time last night!! His sleep journey has (obviously) been a long and difficult one, so this is huge for our family.
Of course, we're flying out today so his sleep schedule will probably take a major hit (new place, new people - happens every time), but I am just so thrilled that he is finally making real progress!!!

@lindsye - hooray!! Congratulations!! The journey to STTN can be brutal and I’m so glad there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for you. Who knows, maybe he’ll surprise you while traveling, too! One can hope, anyway
As for me, we pulled the trigger and finally ordered a new laptop last night that we’ve long needed. We were seduced by a pre-Black Friday deal that included 12 months of 0% financing, so we went for it. I always get weirdly panicked after making big purchases, so I spent the rest of the night re-reading all the reviews in an attempt to assure myself that we made the right choice. Computers are hard, yo.
I was gone all weekend for a girl's trip to Philadelphia and it was my first time leaving DS with just my husband all weekend. I wasn't worried about it or anything, but DS is super attached to me and was quite upset I left. He kept saying "why did you go on the airplane??" and "you came back!!" I know he had fun with my husband though, so am glad they got some bonding time.
@lindsye YAYAYAYAY that is awesome and must feel super gratifying. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he surprises you on this trip. Good luck on this journey, you are pretty courageous in my book. @kmalls oooof that feeling when you pull the trigger on a big purchase, it's like all the research you did and discussion you had about it goes out the window and you suddenly feel kind of naked and like you made a rash decision. You're going to be so psyched when it comes! @sparklingdiamond oh there's something so sweet about your DS missing you. I bet it was good for him to spending time with DH and for you to maybe decompress. Was it hard being away from them?
AFM, I decided finally, after reading Expecting More, that I would allow myself a little bit of coffee, sometimes. *TW I decided not to drink coffee this pregnancy after my first miscarriage bc I irrationally attributed that to the loss, instead of you know, the increased odds of miscarriage as an older lady TW***
Well I order ahead to Panera for an almond milk latte, which normally has two shots and switch it to one shot and make a note for the barista to just do one shot please bc I'm pregnant. When I got there, I got majorly shamed by the woman making my breakfast sandwich that I shouldn't have any. I tried to gently say well, I think a lot of the research says in moderation, and she just interrupted me to tell me it should be avoided and sort of looked at my belly very suspiciously (I'm not really showing much).
I guess it was my first experience being shamed as a parent, which I can expect at least 20 more years of right? So there's that....
@stalkinghorse wtf? I get coffee on the regular and no one has been brazen enough to challenge me on that. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Even my OB doesn't say anything when I go to my appointments with my starbucks.
@stalkinghorse my goodness, that's ridiculous! I have consumed coffee in moderation through all my pregnancies and have never been shamed for it - even when I was huge and end third trimester. Maybe people were too scared to say anything at that point, lol. I mean, it's not like you walked into a bar and ordered a double martini or something....

@stalkinghorse Yes! I had fun, but I missed them a ton! I have been away from DS before, but they are usually trips with DH. I was happy to see them when I got home. But did enjoy time to read my book on the 3 hour flight!
And OMG how rude of that person to shame you for drinking some caffeine.
@lindsye yay for sleeping through the night!! @stalkinghorse That's crazy! Even the OB says one cup a day is fine. Why's the sandwich lady feel like she can talk to people like that?
We went to see Thomas the Train this weekend and it was so neat! I actually cried a little when we first saw him because DS and all the other kids were yelling "Thomas Thomas!" and it was so exciting.
@stalkinghorse that is awful! People and their opinions sometimes go way to far. I agree with @stassichroeder about getting the manager because that is uncalled for. Or I would have made a snide comment about how i'm glad she isn't my Dr. Man I couldn't live if I didn't have some caffeine and my Dr said it is completely fine as long as I stay under 200.
@lindsye STTN!! Woo woo! That's so awesome. I got lucky with DD. I'm worried this one, I won't be lucky. Hopefully when you get back, it won't be too long before he gets back into a routine.
@stalkinghorse that is seriously a fear of mine. All I want is a chai tea latte, but I'm nervous what people will think. And I know I shouldn't care but oddly I do.
ARM, just got home from my sister's wedding and won't be going home again until Christmas. Which already has me stressed out. So glad I get to relax on Thanksgiving, just trying not to stress about Christmas too too much.
@Dumbgurl04 I had some mean things in my head about maybe there's a reason she's working a panera counter at 6am on a saturday and immediately felt like I was going to be struck by lightning so I just grabbed by coffee and ran out of there before I said something I would regret...
I have my second surgery to get surrounding tissues around the tumor that was already removed from my leg tomorrow. Over the weekend, I saw the docs posted my latest MRI report on my patient portal and it indicated 2 more masses. So I'll be asking the doc lots of questions tomorrow on whether they were maybe missed the first time or if they've grown since my initial MRI.
Not related but kinda related to @stalkinghorse’s recent coffee experience: the only time I’ve been hardcore judged while pregnant was a couple years ago. DH and I went to a Boston Bruins game and I was about 8 months pregnant with our son and my belly was enormous. We got up from our seats to get snacks, and DH had to pee so I stood outside the men’s room and waited for him. I got horrible looks from people walking by me, and I had no idea what was going on. DH walked out from the bathroom and laughed at me — at which point I realized I had been holding his full beer, with about 4 empty cups stacked below it, as if they were mine. Totally understood the judgement
I switched prenatal vitamins. The new one has iron, and I’m occasionally constipated. Yuck!
@Mattel, @ngolimento & @JJMNO1616 - I’m also having the weird heartbeat/whooshing. In first tri, I Had the feeling of swimmer’s ears at least half a dozen times a day, but only left ear. Pregnant bodies do weird shit
@dlammers oh my gosh, I am so sorry. I will be praying for you all week, no one should have this kind of added stress while pregnant. Would it be possible for you to get a second opinion since there's a possibility your current doctors missed something. You are so in my thoughts.
@kmalls oh my gosh, that is kind of amazing....oopsie! @g_amoss have you found that taking it at different times of day helps? I have oatmeal in the morning with blueberries and chia and walnuts (i.e. a butt ton of fiber) and when I take my supplement then it helps to ease...things....
@stalkinghorse - I haven’t tried different times. I do bedtime, because no chance I’ll forget my 2 (almost worthless) Tylenol Usually my diet and activity level are enough, but I better make a better effort to eat my ground flax seed.
@stalkinghorse I am already at a different doctor that did my initial surgery. I originally went to a general surgeon because we all thought the mass was benign and nothing to worry about. After it came back malignant, I immediately was seen by an oncologist and different surgeon.
And even more good news! I have my consultation appts set with Dr. Kays. I have four appts over two days. Fetal MRI, meeting with the MFM, Fetal Echo, and then final appt with Dr. Kays to discuss everything. It is Dec 26 and 27. Which means we have to travel Christmas day. I think my mom is going to come so she can watch DS and so I can still spend time with him around Christmas without having to leave for two days!
@stalkinghorse I would write or call the manager. That is SO out of line. If it makes you feel any better I had a cup of black tea in the morning yesterday and then had a Chi Tea late in the afternoon not to mention a chocolate milkshake that same day. I drink chi tea on the regular and also have occasional sodas.
@sparklingdiamond I'm SO happy for you! Sounds like you have a great plan worked out.
@kmalls similar judgement when I was pregnant with dd! My uncle works on my car and never charges labor. When I was 8 months pregnant he did brakes and cv joints on my car. As always I got him a case from his favorite local brewery. The cashier looked me up and down and totally gave me the side-eye but luckily kept her mouth shut. Sad thing is even not pregnant I barely ever drink! We have had 4 beers in our fridge since July! Not one bit tempted!
I finally finished a “birth story” book from when my daughter was born through Shutterfly (17 months later lol). We just got the book which is beautiful EXCEPT the cover photo is someone else’s crappy photo of the Washington Monument haha. I’m on the line with their customer service now so hopefully we’ll get this sorted but it’s just such a funny mistake.

@lindsye, so exciting your LO STTN! Mine is also not a sleeper, and we still celebrate every time it actually happens!
