@charlestonchew I could could totally see having a conversation like that - here's what we want for you and here's what we can afford, but I still think ultimately it should be the kids choice.
I agree. My mom didn't force anything on me. I dont think parents could force anything on an 18 year old since they could just leave.
I don't agree with the forcing, however I think a lot of 18 years do not understand debt and what it'll truly mean to them for a decade or 2. I think it's another one of those things that needs to be taught about more in the home and in school, just like basic living skills.
@babys_2018 I had the same problem Wednesday! It would say I was logged in but I couldn't do anything or see my notifications. This was on my work computer and I was sad to not be able to procrastinate :P this morning it did the same thing but I was able to get around it by logging out, hitting "start discussion" on the front page of our forum, and logging in that way. Not sure if I actually found a cure or if it's just a coincidence that that worked.
We took the kids out last night to a big outdoor festival type deal. It was so crazy that they had 9 parking lots with school buses acting as shuttles. We brought their umbrella strollers along since we knew we could carry them and they wouldn't walk hand in hand the whole time. By the end of the night, I was exhausted. We got off our shuttle and DH took DS to the car pretty fast. I had to keep stopping wth DD because I was so worn out. Some ladies kept stopping to watch me and did ask if I needed help. I kept politely declining and one got super snarky with me and told me they kept asking because clearly I "was out of total breath and struggling". Yeah. No sh** lady. I am well aware I'm out of breath. I really wanted to snap back and say "yeah, that's because I'm pregnant, what's your excuse?" But alas, I was nice and thanked them again before hurrying off to the car.
@sandbar517 I'm bringing this over here because it's definitely not about ultrasounds, but your use of Dylan O'Brien in the Ultrasound thread earns a thumbs up from me. He's my inappropriate teen crush right now.
Pssssh, actually I just checked. He's 26. That's totally kosher.

@artlea2013 FFFC-I don't know who he is. It was one of the only good "relaxing with arms behind head" gifs I could find LOL But that's totally how I felt about Zach Effron. Had a discussion about how weird it felt to be thinking how hot he is, then googled it and found out he's like 30!!!

@mileswithmyles They're both mostly polyester/acrylic, so they'll probably be about the same level of warmth. If one were wool or down, I'd say that would be warmest. I think either will work and just bring layers so you can wear more underneath if it's extra cold. So far this year the east coast has been really above average temperature wise, but I don't want to jinx it and say winter will be the same way!
@mileswithmyles I would vote the second jacket. I am from NY and I still get freezing cold when walking around in winter. I forget when you are going though? The first one should be okay for October/November or by March.
When I worked/lived in NYC and walked everywhere, I had a giant puffy jacket that went down below my knees for winter.
@mileswithmyles I'm with silverhope. Definitely the second one with the hood. While our winters have been warmer "than normal" they can still be pretty cold. Nothing like the midwest, of course, but still bad. I would get some good waterproof boots and a down/wool coat if you can. Or the second coat with layers. Maybe something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Orolay-Womens-Thickened-Jacket-Green/dp/B00HHOXREI/ref=sr_1_5_mc?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1508517554&sr=1-5&keywords=maternity+coat ETA That came up when I searched for maternity coat, but I can't find anywhere in the description that specifically says it's maternity. And the model definitely doesn't look pregnant.

@sandbar517 that one is nice. I’m trying not to spend a ton of money, mostly because I really only need it for that week, and with the sale ON is having, I can get it for $35.
If you are not used to winter, I would get something warmer than that.... just based on my SIL who grew up in South Carolina wearing like arctic looking full body parkas when she visits us. And that's when it's like 45 degrees, lol I don't think she would go outside when its actually cold. Though compared to MN I'm not sure NYC ever gets actually cold....
@bearwithme yeah I just threw it up. It didn't help with my first pregnancy either. But good news! At my appointment today my doctor faxed a letter saying it is a medical necessity for me to have zofran or I risk hospitalization. So I paid out of pocket for enough zofran for the weekend and will have a refill ready on Monday. Already feeling better with zofran after an hour! @mileswithmyles I vote second one. I'm not from New York but grew up in NW Indiana, the land of lake effect snow! @suchaglencoco sorry. Those situations suck!
Happy day! Bumgenius just revamped their newborn diapers and they're made out of organic cotton now ! They are one of my favorite cloth diaper brands, so I'm excited for this LO to be cloth from birth.
DH made dinner tonight and it's so good. After a crazy, travel filled work week, I'm going to sit on the couch, snuggle with LO and eat dinner. The only thing that would make this better is wine.
I had my OB appointment yesterday at 11+6. She didn't recommend a NT scan or a NIPT. I wonder if I should've pushed for the NT scan? Anyone else didn't do the first trimester scans?
My TTC journey:
Me and DH: 30-35 Unexplained infertility TTC #1 since 2015 11/2015 - BFP! 12/2015 - MC IVF #1 July 2017 freeze all (20 eggs, 15 mature, 10 fert, 6 blasts, 4 PGS normal) FET #1 TBD Surprise BFP 9/2017 while waiting for FET... hoping for the best!
ivyvines6 We are going to attempt cloth diapering too. I've been researching. Which style do you plan on using'? We were thinking about the shell with the inserts. I know nothing about cloth diapering. My mom did it with all 3 girls but she used all cloth and safety pins!
@justsuzie I CD my kids. I use a combination of pockets and flats with covers. My flats are just floursack towels from target or walmart, super cheap. When he was little I used snappis to hold them on, but now I can just fold them into a pad and pop them in the cover. Pockets are also easy and friendly for people who aren't sure about CDing but I hate stuffing them.
@tincupchalice I am getting a doula for birth and transitioning (as suggested by my therapist because she considers me a delicate flower). I am hoping the doula will have a lot of insight on CD.
@justsuzie we should make a dedicated thread for my favorite topic!
We use Flip covers and the organic cotton inserts, as well as Bumgenius Elementals (organic cotton all in ones) Smart Bottoms 3.1's (organic cotton all in ones) and we have one Thirsties all in one, which is also organic cotton, and one single Bambino Mio pocket, that's a hybrid type.
We found out pretty early in that J is one of the rare kids who's allergic to synthetic fibers. He's fine with clothes, but for the diaper area it gives him horrible rashes. When we started out we did Alva brand pocket diapers and the flip covers with microfiber inserts, and flour sack towels. The pockets were not a good fit for us. I hated all the stuffing and unstuffing... The flour sack towels worked great until he was about six months old and starting peeing through them. We doubled them up and that worked for a while, but we found the regular organic cotton inserts to work the best with him. I didn't mind the folding of the FST's and they washing SO SO SO SO easily, but they weren't absorbent enough with hi
The pros of the flip system (which some people absolutely hate) are that they're compact, and you don't have to change the cover with every diaper change. We've also bought the disposable inserts for traveling in the past, and while they aren't as absorbent, they still work well enough to not buy "sposies."
The pros of the all in ones are that they are one complete system. Once the diaper is sprayed out you toss the whole thing in the washer and you're set. They aren't as compact though, unfortunately. My mom (who hates cloth diapering) prefers these to the Flips. They're comparable to a sposie in that they're "put on and take off" just like them.
I am so proud of myself today. I was feeling inspired and for dinner I made a roast, whipped potatoes, gravy, and biscuits. I haven't cooked like that since even before my bfp and I think this is the most I've done in a long time. Also, I was actually able to eat everything.
Happy day! Bumgenius just revamped their newborn diapers and they're made out of organic cotton now ! They are one of my favorite cloth diaper brands, so I'm excited for this LO to be cloth from birth.
That’s awesome. I have a huge stash of BumGenius 4.0s from DD. Unfortunately I barely used them with her because she has extremely sensitive skin and had a reaction to the microfiber every time I used them! I’m looking forward to actually being able to use them!
edited @ivyvines6 I just read your other post and can’t believe your son had horrible rashes too! I was doing so much research because I really wanted to CD and couldn’t figure out what was wrong and finally has to settle on the allergy.
@justsuzy We used prefolds with a snappi with covers. I love them because they are super absorbant and you can reuse them as rags when your kid is older.
Oh my goodness, I would love a thread about cloth diapering! Im planning on doing it with this one. My husband thinks it's disgusting, but he's lame so whatever. Haha!
@beckles112 my SO thought they were gross too until we started using them. Now he only gets mad if I'm not diligent about removing the wet bags from the nursery or bathroom because they start to smell after a day or so. We wash ours twice a week, but it's recommended to wash them every two or three days. If I end up with two in cloth that will definitely be a possibility. Right now he doesn't go through enough diapers to justifying tying up the washing machine for so long.
So, I have been super productive today finally! Hoping I can keep this up because my house definitely needed some TLC. I felt like crap most of last week and did nothing. It looked like a tornado hit! I think I might even aim for some adult time this weekend. I'm sure DH won't object

Mine thought it was gross but then he did the math on the $$$.
@ivyvines6, @justsuzie, and anyone else who does cloth diapers, what is your reason for doing it? I get the reasoning that the plastic ones irritate the baby's skin but are there other reasons?
@Pearlvirus I don't think it's too early to start talking about college for these babies. Better to have a plan and start early. I opened a bank account for my son within 3 mo after birth.
@ivyvines6, @justsuzie, and anyone else who does cloth diapers, what is your reason for doing it? I get the reasoning that the plastic ones irritate the baby's skin but are there other reasons?
Well since you asked Let me put on my hippie tinfoil hat here:
I'd taken a public speaking course in college and one of the other students did an informative speech about cloth diapers. She planted the seeds of more breathability, less rashes, and less waste at that time. When I found out I was pregnant I did a lot of research and discovered that disposable hygiene products in the US are largely unregulated, and can house some problematic materials that's close to a tiny developing human's genitalia. (I also use cloth menstrual pads, in case you also made that connection) For us it's more peace of mind knowing exactly what's against his skin all day every day.
We do use sposies on occasion, and we usually buy honest company, or rarely seventh generation. He usually gets a rash in them if he wears them too long, they're an unbudgeted expense that's annoying, and I swear every time he wears a sposie and he poops, it leaks. I still buy cloth diapers here and there, as a print comes out that I like, so I can't say that we've necessarily saved money, but not having to budget diapers every couple weeks is really nice. If we start to run out of diapers, you don't have to run to the store. Besides, they're cute!
We took our youth group on a fall retreat to Branson and we're at Silver Dollar City today. I'm good and doped up on zofran and I'm eating everything since I can't do anything else.
I don't cloth diaper but I do use re-usable swim diapers and highly recommend. We swim 4-5 times a week in the summer and swim diapers are super expensive so when I found out about reusables (about $10 for 1) I was ecstatic.
Kids are refusing naps and I just went into check on them. Yup, DD was pulling out dresser drawers and climbing it. DH needs to get home with my Chinese so I can go into a food coma.
