When we had our son, we named him Emmett. Every nurse either asked us if it was after Emmitt Smith or if it was from Twighlight. Every nurse! It was not from either btw.
I love the name Emmett! It was in my top 5 boy names, but DS has a good friend with an Emmett :/
  • Loading the player...
  • Areontay. I think is how it was spelled, I work as a secretary for a school right now and when I saw the name I had no idea how to say it.
  • A parent board in Kansas City has a child named Kauffman. (Where the Royals play baseball.) Same family has a Maklin (Chiefs football player.) After we won the World Series in '15, I've seen so many babies with Royal for a middle name. Makes me cringe.
I don't get parents naming their kids after sports figures based on fandom of a team. If you like the player, like you're a huge Tom Brady fan so you name your son Brady but are not necessarily a Patriots fan, then ok. But Jeremy Maclin played for the Eagles before the Chiefs, and he may go somewhere else after his stint there, so it's fleeting. At least Royal is the name of the team so it's forever associated with it.
DH really wanted to name the baby Thomas or Brady. Not bad names on their own but the meaning for why he wanted it made me realize this kid was lucky to have me as his mom. I can only see the shenanigans DH is going to get into with these boys.

(H informed me Maclin is on the Ravens now so he’s not even a Chief anymore! This is why I quit fantasy, I can’t keep up anymore.)

  • A close friend and HUGE Braves fan named her son Maddux Aaron...
  • Last night I was looking at an attendance sheet and someone is named Royale.
  • @gymmonkey95 Royale makes me think of a cheeseburger! Now I want one!
  • @gymmonkey95 Royale just reminded me that I grew up with/went to school with a guy named Prince. Neither of these names would be my first choice for a child. Is Royale is a male or female student?
  • Is it bad that the first thing I think of when I hear the name Royale is a toilet paper brand?
  • @amb929 I'm not sure, I didn't get the chance to look at their drivers license to figure it out. It really funny, I went to school with a girl named princess and it definitely fit her!
@kbrinks2 haha I didn't know that it was a brand but that is just plain awesome!
  • Every time I read the title of this thread, the Sesame Street "letter of the day" song pops in my head....Every. Single. Time.

Also, this probably belongs in "Randoms".  Oh well.

Another mom in my OB office was trying to get her kid to behave yesterday and kept yelling his name: Cad (hoping its a nickname because it's not a good definition as a word.) She had a newborn, too, and his name was Legend.
  • There was an article in the paper the other day and this kids name was Kale.

There was a high schooler named Kale when I was in middle school and was sooooo attractive!! Before it was a health fad.

I saw a baby named Atlas today. Not sure if it is cute or side eye.
My friend has an Atlas! Their girl name was Jubilee though sooo
  • If my name was jubilee I would just have people call me Julie and pretend that didn’t exist.
  • If my name was jubilee I would just have people call me Julie and pretend that didn’t exist.
Wasn’t there a Duggar named Jubilee?

No. They had a joy-Ana. Poor thing. You know they wanted to call her Ana but needed a J in front and they already had a Jana
  • @SunflowerMama428 it was bothering me so I googled. Jubilee Shalom was their 20th child, stillborn in 2011.
  • @TattoosandLace oh that’s sad. Now I feel like an asshole.
  • @SarahFoley725 I knew a Jubilee growing up, I guess for me that registers the same as joy or grace. Maybe because I grew up with it.
  • @SarahFoley725 I actually like the name jubilee! But it’s my sister’s middle name so I never thought of it as weird haha

  • I know a Cale, but it’s spelled with a C, obviously. I guess it doesn’t seem that weird to me.

Speaking of Twilight, I know a baby named Renesmee.

Sweet little girl, but people in a fictional universe thought it was a bad name. Poor kid.

Music fans? John Cale is a founding member of Velvet Underground and J.J. Cale was a singer/song writer who wrote some of Clapton’s most famous songs.

I had no idea about the music connection but perhaps? This was someone my age so I didn't really know his parents. Just a coworker.

I work with a Royal. Decent fellow. He was recently promoted to head of program. Prior to him, i'd never heard it as a name.
  • So I don't know these kids first hand or even secondhand but my friend has a teacher friend. And the most interesting names were this pair of siblings. The names were pronounced lah-mon-joo-say and or-ran-joo-say spelled lemonjuice and orangejuice.

I have a friend who named their son Kellan after the actor who played Emmett on Twighlight.
  • Also we are naming our daughter
    Sutton Leigh
And yes, we are aware of the jokes ..
" suddenly" and no it's not intentional. And slutton....and that one depends on her.
  • I love the name Sutton. DH vetoed.
  • @SarahFoley725 I have new inspiration in the event that we have a third child and it's a girl. Totally naming her Pandorah.  :D

I win. Mom's name is Sunshine too.
I work in media so all I can think about is they named their child after a radio streaming service and they spelled it wrong.  It's Pandora!!
  • I’m a sonographer. The baby part of the ultrasound world is actually my least favorite, so asking patients their baby names is one of the few things I enjoy about it. I have to always be ready with my poker face if they tell me a truly awful name though  :D  One of my recent favorites was twin boys being named James and Semaj. Not the worst name til you realize it’s literally just James backwards  :D
  • @kristinl492 I don't even know how I would feel if I was named Semaj and my brother was James. I would probably resent my brother every single day.
